I walk in and was greeted kindly, I asked to get my suit fitted for my sisters wedding and he asks for me to change into it so he could get a better understanding of the work to be done. I arrived at 6:05 on a Wednesday. Came with not just one but 5 pair of pants in need of hemming and dry cleaned. Place is in busy street, parking is funky. I get close and it's locked with a cage and it says on the door close at 6:30 no sign of emergency leave or anything. Great reviews don't know from where?... new to the area so was chosen this for first try as a new future customer. I was very disappointed and bothered but your loss is someone's else shops gain. The first time I came here he did an ok job. Th second time one item was done and one item was hanging on the rack unmarked and forgotten. The third and last time I went he did a poor job on one side ten and lost the other. He said he'd look for it and call. Of course he never did. I won't be back. read more

I went here earlier in the fall for my bridesmaid dress, it was long and had a slit which the dress overlapped the hem was crooked, and unbelievably long in the front I was uncomfortable the entire night having to hold my dress and almost tripping anytime I put it down. Also ruined the belt that was shortened he put the buttons back on incorrectly so I had to remove the belt! Also he ruined the bust line, it was extremely tight which i had questioned (as I did go to fashion school) when he was making the lines to make it more tapered from the underarm area into the breast area as it was loose in the corner, I said the lines looked like it would be too small in the breast, he said it would be fine. It wasn't I basically bought a bigger dress to accommodate the size of my bust for it to be pointless, and one more thing to feel uncomfortable about. He tried to fix it and had it another week, by the time I had it I could not get it dry cleaned and it had a makeup stain on it as it was a floor model dress from the bridal store. It was unbelievable, they were honestly simple fixes, and ruined my dress. I threw it away after the wedding it was that bad. read more

He may not schmooze you like you're the next biggest act out of Hollywood or advise you about your love life the way a good bartender can but if you want to look the part, this guy will come through for you. He's been at this gig for quite some time and knows his stuff. I hear he can blindstitch with his hands tied behind his back. j/k I've had a lot of work done by him (at least 30 pieces) and I am always satisfied with his work. He's helped me with basic shortening dress shirt sleeves, hemming pants and taking in (or occassionally taking out) waists to working on fancy designed shirts that require recutting/resizing it for a better fit. John the tailor should change his marquee outside to "John the asshole". My fiancé and I went to him off of his stellar reviews here on Yelp! We went in to have one of her dresses taken in. He rudely snatched it from her and looked at it and said he couldn't give an estimate until he saw it on her in the dress. Understandable. She puts it on and he said the alteration would be $55. From the time we walked in to the time he gave us the estimate (5 minutes) he made us feel like we were a nuisance and were bothering him by inquiring about his services. Poor customer service isn't a smart thing to do in today's market place ESPECIALLY with review services like Yelp! I don't know if he raised prices and became a prick recently, but he was not affordable nor pleasant. Not a smart move John, we are local and would've gladly given you more business and recommend you to others. read more

Best place!!! I came in this morning wanting my dress tailored and finished in a couple of hours. The dress ended up being more complicated than I thought and he told me it's gonna be a bit pricey to fix it. We have gone to John the Tailor twice. The first time for my daughter's prom dress which had a very difficult hem that needed to be raised. John was so knowledgeable and told me and showed me before hand why he had to do the hem a certain way. I was so impressed with his knowledge and work. Recently, my daughter and I had to take our Friday party dresses to him for alteration and hemming. Again, John was so knowledgeable and explained everything to me beforehand. The dresses were complicated to alter. John did a fantastic job. He is a true artisan and will continue to take all of our tailoring needs to him. Amazing experience. Referred by a friend for a bridesmaid dress and he went above and beyond altering a dress that was multiple sizes too large for my pregnant wife and it came out looking amazing. I am utterly disgusted with the quality John does not provide. I brought myself and my family to John when we were departing on a cruise. There was a two week deadline. He promised we'd have our clothing in a week, he was a week late. We were leaving the next day and upon picking up our multiple garments, they were tailored in a horrible manner, they were crooked, the seat of the pants were baggy, etc, etc. I told him how displeased I was he said sorry can't help you. Please beware, he will promise you the world and deliver a rotten egg. We ended up having the garments properly tailored on the ship at a very steep price I might add. Even the ships tailors were laughing at his work and amazed how he calls himself a tailor. What a horrible experience from a scheister. Oh yes, if you do use him, enjoy picking up your garments on used old, bent wire hangers with no plastic protection, etc. read more

Came to this tailor on the advice of a close friend who lives by the shop. Just a little background of my sitch, I'm husky with a big ass. Buying your everyday pants at JCPenney will not always cut it. Constantly having my pants drag or look like bellbottoms. Started taking my pants to Jon and BAM! Problems solved. I take every pair of pants here to adjust to ME! Yay it might be $20 per pant, but well worth it. He even does shirts too... Arm lengths are never a problem any more. read more

This guy saved my life. I have become a sausage and had to squeeze myself into a bridesmaid's dress that would not close at all. I took it in 4 days before I needed it and was hoping for a miracle. He said he couldn't do anything with the dress because there just wasn't enough fabric to do so. It was true, he was grasping at filiments. But after saying that it didn't have to look perfect and it just needed to look decent he went ahead and did it. He made it perfect! He let it out and had to use some extra fabric that almost matched but it was hidden underneath so it was ok. It fits fantastic and you can't even tell that anything was done to the dress. I decided to visit this location based on the good reviews on yelp. I just wanted a sundress taken in. Firstly, he didn't even acknowledge me when I walked in the door. There was no one else in his shop. I went in to ask how much it would be, and before I could even turn the dress right side out he ripped the garment from my hands. Then very rudely handed the dress back to me and told me he could not give me a price without seeing it on me (understandable). I asked if I could use either dressing room and he rolled his eyes and motioned toward them. After seeing the dress on me and quoting an outrageous price, I left John the Tailor without my business. He is a very rude man with poor customer service skills. Rating one star because I can't give him none read more

Brought in a suit (pants and coat) and they were ready within 3 days. Quality has held up over multiple wears and washes. I have no qualms about the work done. It was top notch and done in a timely fashion. Suit fits much better now and if not for this work, it would literally be un-wearable for me. My only complaint was that the tailor pretty much chastised me like he was my dad or something for buying a suit that was too big for me. I, personally, can do without this type of side comments. It's really none of his business why or how I acquired this suit that needs to be tailored. If he thinks that it may look a certain way or if the product is beyond reproach, then tell me that in a business-like manner. I do not need to feel punished or criticized for my personal decisions, especially when those decisions are giving you business. By all means, this review is not meant to be a therapy session. But for anyone out there who values customer service, especially as a potential deal breaker when all other factors are pretty much equal, then I hope this information is valuable. read more

Took my dress for my bridal shower here a couple weeks ago. Picked it up the day before my shower and it was so jacked up I couldn't wear it. First of all they took it in too much and it was too tight. Could have been because when I brought it in, he didn't take measurements but just kinda eyed how much to take it in on the sides. When I got home I noticed that the waist was taken in but the lining underneath wasn't. The fabric of the lining was bunches up across my stomach under the shear outer fabric. Not sure how any tailor could look at that and think it's acceptable. On top of that I was charged $40 for a completely destroyed dress. Never going back. read more

What I especially like about him is that he patiently waits for me to change into each pair of pants, folds, and marks where he is going to cut and hem. This is what sets him apart from other tailors in the area, who usually ask you to mark your pants yourself, which sometimes causes the tailor to cut in the wrong area.
