Dr. Madej is the greatest doctor I've ever had. He's knowledgeable, tenacious, kind and caring. He'll get you to all the best specialists in the area, and they all seem to know him. He answers email at all hours of the day and night, and behind the scenes he's talking to the specialists he referred you to in order to get the best care for you. I signed up for his concierge service because I felt he was providing it in any case so he should be compensated for it. I've never seen another doctor so patient-oriented. It's such a relief to know I have such a great doctor available to help me. I worry about him though because he works so much! I wish there were more doctors like Dr. Madej. read more

Dr. Madej used to practice in Lake County, that is where I met him. He insisted on being on a first name basis. I still travel the 3 hours each way to see him. An exceptionally fine, brilliant doctor who is undaunted by "complicated" cases. He is a real life "Dr. House" except Dr. Madej has excellent bedside manners. His staff is very professional and efficient. Dr. Madej sets a superior standard for medicine that is a rarity. Folks... I believe I was one of Dr. Madej's first 10 patients after he moved his practice here from Lake County ~5 years ago. The man is exceptional! I couldn't endorse him more strongly. He has helped me with a number of things, but my favorite Doc M story has to do with the time my wife and I were traveling in Chile, in the remote Atacama desert, and I got deadly sick. A virus of some sort. I was hospitalized there. But going downhill fast. My wife panicked and called Doc M... who picked up his own phone on the second ring!!! He made my wife read him the details of the junk the local medics had me on and then gave clear instructions on what antibiotics he wanted me on. Whew! After I was able to fly back to SF, Doc M personally met me at the hospital and got me fully sorted. This man is exceptional. He'll be my Doctor for as long as he is able to lift a stethoscope! Dr. Madej is BY FAR the best internist MD I have ever encountered and is a very special human being. He is what doctors should be but seldom are; knowledgeable, caring, thorough, methodical and kind. I am 62 and the warranty has expired so I have the normal issues with people my age. Unlike the normal doctor visit experience where you get 12 min and 30 sec with the doc, he is relentless in chasing down problems and takes the time necessary to diagnose them definitively. He will go the "extra mile" for his patients. For example, I had an intestinal problem that visits to 3 different specialists couldn't properly diagnose. Doctor Madej is the most incredible doctor I have ever met. I had an unknown illness that caused me extreme pain, all over my body, 24/7. After seeing over two dozen doctors & specialists, everywhere from Stanford to Palo Alto Medical Foundation, I was told either that my condition is too complex to be diagnosed, that it was "all in my head", or given the "Sorry, I don't know, but let's send you to Doctor "XYZ". After months of being "ping ponged" around by the so-called "best doctors in the Bay Area", I was at my wit's end. Emotionally distraught and in physical agony. I have low fever for over 2 months and was desperate to find a doctor who can find my problem, after lots of searching and phone calls. I found Dr.Madej, the review was so good. I called the reception and explain to her everything later I know she is Mrs Madej, she is very nice and find a earlier spot for me. Dr.Madej checked me thoroughly. Dr is Madej is the best doctor out there. He has a very personnel feel to his practice. He takes his time and talks to you and answers all your questions openly and honestly. I feel like he is really on my side and really wants the best for my health. I have never had a doctor who showed so much compassion for their work. I am in the medical field as a paramedic and now starting PA school at Stanford and Dr Madej is someone I would want treating my family or me. I've had gout from a very young age and he is always making sure it is being dealt with. He considers how I feel about certain treatments or medications and works with me or suggests alternatives. He is very knowledgeable about internal medicine. For a while I did not have insurance and he was still very accepting and knowing cost would be more of an issue, he would consider that when he ordered tests or procedures. He doesn't have to take the extra time to see what it's like from the patient's side but he does, and it just shows that he is a caring doctor. We had the stupid luck of having Dr. Madej take over our rural physician's practice in Lakeport, Lake County (N. CA) when she left to be the med director for the local hospital. Once spoiled though we just weren't happy when, several years later, he left for the Silicon Valley for better educational opportunities for his kids. While our physician Dr. Madej literally went to great lengths to track us down at odd hours when he received strange test results, and his diagnostic skills are beyond uncanny. In spite of passing asthma tests with flying colors he kept insisting I had asthma, and of course he turned out right. When I had some off-the-chart blood test results come in and he couldn't find me, he actually spent the time to track down my husband at his workplace to get me in ASAP. When our first grandchild was born with a rare genetic disability, he was there with advice even though no longer our personal physician. After years without him we used other local physicians, but just recently we had several friends and neighbors, most our age, dying of conditions that should have been monitored instead of going undiagnosed until they died. That did it -- we asked Dr. Madej late last year if he could take us back as patients. We still live in that rural area 3.5 hours from him, but between our online med visits plus emails (and he doesn't charge us for half of his very valuable time!!!) and taking the trouble to visit his recommended specialists (he suspected some unknown med conditions which turned out to be correct) my husband and I now feel we are on top of our health and taking proactive measures as we approach a hopefully long and happy retirement. I LOVE Dr. Madej, and if you're in any position to use him as your personal physician I would VERY HIGHLY recommend you make that move. Tell him we sent you. read more

I moved to Portola Valley a year ago and was looking for a doctor. Because I didn't know anyone in the area to refer me to a good doctor, I did the, "open the page of available doctors in the area, close my eyes and pick one". And I went prepared with my list of questions to "interview" him with a good number of questions. After answering a number of my questions, a grin came over his face. I asked him what was up. He took some time to explain to me that being a doctor was his life. It's what he always wanted to do and he enjoys it. It's not only his work but it's his family's work/life as well. I have gone to see him numerous times for a number of issues. He IS available 24X7. When he's on vacation in Orlando, he answers his phone. When I'm in Mexico spear fishing and completely split my lip wide open, his first question is what time does your flight arrive, I want to see you in my office (on a Sunday night). When I walk in his office in serious condition, he gives me 2 options, he will call me an ambulance or he will take me to the hospital himself (which is what he ended up doing). In the cardiac section of the hospital, I had a lot of tests that he ordered. Everyone I spoke with knew him personally and everyone one of them had only great things to say about him. I not only consider him my doctor, I consider him a good friend. I'm 51 years old and I've never met or had a doctor that even comes close to him. read more
