I think you can only really judge a business when things don't go well. It lets you figure out what a company really stands for. So these guys stopped by my house in April 2015 as they were doing work in the neighborhood. We asked them for an estimate for the exterior, and they were priced lower than any other estimates we had gotten. The owner ( john) and his sons came by personally and walked us through the process. We agreed on a price, and a few days later, as promised, their team came and got started. The crew that did the painting was polite and worked really fast. Fast forward to a year later, and we notice a spot where the paint is peeling. I called the owner and left him a message telling them what was going on. I honestly didn't expect anything, but I figured it was worth a shot. He returned my call the next day. He told me that he would come look at it, and that he would make it right. The next day his son John Jr came. He saw the spot, told me that it looked like the primer hadn't dried enough before it was painted over, and apologized for it. I also told him about a spot that was missed, because a year ago there had been a shed which blocked access to an exterior wall. He said no problem he would fix the part that was peeling, AND on their own dime, would buy paint to do the part of the wall that was now exposed and unpainted. Within an hour it was all done. Recently we had the pleasure of hiring John Keith Painting to give our home a new look. From our first interaction with John we could see that we were in good hands. John obviously knows his craft and is able to convey what your options are without any sort of pressure or upselling. He came out, gave us a competitive bid and walked through the entire process. I can't give a review, because Mr Keith came to my house, a very polite and good manner, but he wants 10% of the estimate at the time we sign the contract. He wrote the contract on the spot, the estimate were reasonable and I signed, I pressed for a date to start a job, maybe about 10 days later, no confirmation of the date. When he left I notice that the contract doesn't a physical address, ask for a business card and no business card. I debated whether to write this review because it's not 5 stars, but was told that I should. The good: John and his brother Christian are pleasant to work with and came out the same day to provide me with a quote. I was a bit nervous at first because they requested more than half payment up front before any work had even begun. But John assured me that his license was too important to him to risk, so I paid it. Neither of them performed the painting, though. They have two workers for that - an older man and a younger one. The good: the house is painted. However, the painters decimated my garden during the power washing of the house and, despite removing my rain chain and placing it near the fence, away from the porch, they broke that, as well, so I had to throw it away. I later discovered that they also broke and threw away my string lights while moving my pergola (they were attached to the pergola and the house). The workers left a ton of debris and trash in the front and backyards. In the back I found barbecue sauce packets, fast food trash, paint supplies, and metal shavings in the front that I am glad I picked up before my dog discovered it. And because I instructed them not to paint my front covered porch, because it really didn't need it, NOW it does need painting because they got white paint all over it when they were painting the posts. The porch is slate blue. Oh, and when I initially signed the contract I was told that they would address the dry rot in one of the wooden posts supporting the roof/porch (this is why I went with them over others) and they did not fix the post as agreed upon. They just wrapped the bottoms of each post with a small piece of sheet metal and painted it white to match. There is still dry rot underneath, which could have been fixed with wood hardener if we weren't going to replace the post. I was told by Christian that they would replace the post. Then he told me that they would remove/scrape out all of the dry rotted wood and fill it in before painting it, and that didn't happen, either. So while I am glad that my house is painted and it looks nice (not stellar, I've since found dripping dried paint all around it. Also, my dryer vent was white out of the box. They painted it blue like the rest of the house. Then painted over THAT and painted it white again, which seemed ridiculous to me), I am not happy about my destroyed garden, my rain chain, the garbage left behind, and now having to paint my porch myself because they got paint all over it. I am giving 3 stars because at least the house is painted and looks better than before, when it had peeling paint. read more

If you are seeking quality workmanship, attention to detail, professionalism, and outstanding customer service, you may want to look elsewhere. I know this is a long post, but you may want to read on if your hard earned money matters to you. . . I did not have a good experience with this company. When they painted my home they were done within a couple days. I had to call them back to paint the areas that they missed. My concrete driveway was stained from the spilled paint that was never cleaned up. The cracks in the stucco that they repaired did not blend in at all. They used a rubbery caulk to repair larger pieces of broken stucco instead of a cement based stucco. There was masking tape residue left along the edges of my patio. I brought this up and they came back and did address those issues. About two months later the paint on my metal garage doors began to peel, bubble, and crack. I contacted two different Sherwin Williams paint retailers and was told that they used the wrong kind of paint for the garage doors. When I called John Keith Painting and explained what I found out, he referred me to his brother James. James told me that they could not strip off the paint that they already put on. He said that his workers would power wash any peeling paint from the surface of the doors and would repaint using the paint recommended by Sherwin Williams. I expressed my concern that the first layer of paint they applied would continue to peel if not completely stripped. James insisted that applying the new paint over the first layer would address this. Two of his workers came and power washed the doors and removed limited and random portions of the first layer of peeling paint. They then painted over both doors (and the first layer of paint) leaving behind unsightly craters from where the paint was randomly removed. By the very next day the edges of the first paint job were already continuing to peel and taking the second layer of paint with it. This has worsened over time. I peeled back some of the paint bubbles and took photos and sent them to James. I explained that the first layer of paint they failed to remove was continuing to peel again. Over the next several months I attempted to get James to strip the doors and do the job correctly. He has continually refused. He has done nothing other than come up with what I believe are unreasonable excuses why he can't fix it. He has even blamed me for the peeling paint. I come from a background in construction and recognized these excuses as being without merit. Examples of his text messages to me have been: "I have no way of stripping a metal garage door. That is impossible." "Is someone plucking at it (the paint)? Paint just does not fall off normally." "I can't come back and strip your door to bare metal." "I can't keep repainting a door that someone keeps peeling the paint off. Paint doesn't fall off garage doors." "There is touch up paint there to touch up the spot you peeled off." (in other words, fix it myself) "I have painted it twice, that's all I'm required to do and used the paint you wanted me to use in the color you wanted me to use. And I told you to use the body color that wouldn't attract the heat." (James attempted to blame my choice of a dark color as the cause of the peeling paint). Ultimately I told James that I would seek compensation through arbitration to have my doors fixed. James asked how much money I wanted to resolve this. I got an estimate from an experienced licensed contractor who had the opinion that the surface was never prepared properly, that the wrong kind of paint was used, and the only proper solution is to strip the doors in order to remove the first layer of paint that John Keith applied. This painter provided me an estimate of over $1,400 to strip, prime, and repaint the doors with the proper paint. I attempted to get other quotes, but most other painters did not want to fix someone else's work. I told James that I would accept $1,200 to resolve the issue. I figured I could perhaps find someone to do the job for a little bit less than $1,400. His reply was, "HaHa. A new garage door is $600. I'll give you $300 to do whatever you want . . . and $300 is my absolute maximum offer." Consequently, I have been forced to file a complaint with the Contractors State Licensing Board to seek a remedy. I would not recommend this company. I can accept the fact that contractors make mistakes and that sometimes a job does not have the intended results. What I cannot accept is their refusal to accept responsibility for the unsightly and substandard paint job that was done on the garage doors. I am a reasonable person and gave James every opportunity to make this right. It is with regret that I had to take the time to write this review for the benefit of those who are considering this company to paint their home. read more

I absolutely love these guys! I called them to come over for an estimate and we set up a time for us to meet. When they arrived they we walked around my home and I showed them what I wanted done. John gave me a price that seemed fair and I had them do the job. They started the job by pressure washing first, after that the prep!!! It looked like hard work. They sanded the wood down and got most of the old paint off, then they filled the cracks in my wood and primed and painted with 2 coats! With my stucco the cracks was terrible, using an actual stucco patch, they filled the cracks to where you can't notice scars. When they finished there was some touch ups , I showed them and they touched them up immediately. I am so satisfied, because I hadn't had much success with painters before.
