5-29-21 Yesterday on our Road Trip from San Francisco to SanDiego we made one pull in to this Rest Area. It was perfect for a pit stop to let the grandpup out to stretch her legs and for us to relieve ourselves. There were several stalls on the women's side. They accept credit cards and they work just fine. I was able to get a soda and my wife some snacks. The bathrooms are pretty primitive, but functional. Lots of pet exercise areas. We stopped on the northbound side. Immediately after opening our car door we smelled 'skunk'. The kids had the fun of deciding which was worse, holding it or running through the cloud. Over the past 10 years, I think Caltrans has renovated all the rest stops along the 5. If i remember correctly, this one was done a while back, and while they did a good job, it's amazing how quickly these things start to look their their old dingy selves. I guess high winds and dust storms and baking in 100-plus-degree heat will do that to a rest stop--er, "area." My most recent visit was this past spring, so all the plant life was green and lush and beautiful. I'm sure it's already brown again. The restrooms are clean, but they're not as clean as they can be. The tables are beneath wind and rain shelters, but they're situated in a strange way, and they're not terribly comfortable to sit at, especially if the wind is cool like it was that day. My eight-year-old niece was excited to spy a few wild creatures. I think we saw some rabbits and what looked like a prairie dog. read more

On our way to San Francisco from LA, this was a very convenient spot for my boyfriend and I. The restrooms are clean and have toilet paper unlike other rest areas that run out of toilet paper. There's vending machines with ice cream, chips, drinks, snacks in general, a bit pricey. There's some nice picnic areas and you get a pretty good view. There's a dog area and a good amount of parking for those needing to stop by. Desperate spots for trucks & autos, which makes it work out great. We slept here for the night and it was safe, the freeway wasn't noisy at all. Would definitely stop here again if we go on a road trip again. read more

It's does its job as a rest area admirably. It has plenty of parking for both cars and trucks where you can safely pull off and have a nice rest on a long drive. It has restrooms, clean ones, with plenty of toilet paper and soap. The sink was a wee bit confusing, as you needed to push a small button on the wall to get the water to start, but I figured it out on my own, so I gather you will, too. Come to think of it, there was the same kind of push button on the wall to get the toilets to flush, so if you managed to figure that out you'll be fine. If you didn't figure that out, go back and flush, you dirty bird! The toilet paper was very cheap and very thin, but I suppose you can't expect much at a rest stop - what with all the government cutbacks (wink). There are a number of picnic tables with shade structures where one can eat if one has a well apportioned cooler in the car, and public pay phones for the three people on the West Coast who still don't have cell phones. read more
