Clean bathrooms when I was here, 2 pet relief areas for walking your pups, please make sure to clean up after your pets they have bins near by for waste. They also offer several vending machines- soda, energy drinks, snacks, ice cream, coffee in case you need a pick me up on the road to your ventures. Happy traveling and be safe out on the road.

Nothing special, but had lots of vending machines that worked! We were a little confused since there was a sign that indicated no vending. But when we got there, there were lots of vending machines. They accept credit cards and they work just fine. I was able to get a soda and my wife some snacks. The bathrooms are pretty primitive, but functional. Lots of pet exercise areas. The trash seem to be emptied okay, since we did not see any overflowing trash cans. So, an okay rest stop. Nothing special but does the job.

We stopped on the northbound side. Immediately after opening our car door we smelled 'skunk'. The kids had the fun of deciding which was worse, holding it or running through the cloud. My son went with my husband while I waited with my daughter. Queue the circus music. Some creeper was wandering around taking pictures of people and license plates. With all of the great reviews. I hope this was just an off day/moment. If it isn't, now you know that it isn't just you.

Rest stop conveniently located off of hwy 5 . Some snacks available for purchase. Grassy area to walk your dog too. Stop and stretch your legs.

Don't park in THAT spot. ;)

Average Rest Stop As Far As Rest Stops Go SITREP Located on I-5, the best thing about this stop is that I know I'm that much closer to my eventual destination and so I can take a potty stop without feeling guilty about loosing close 5 minutes of time. [Except for the fact I know I will be battling wills with those two truckers again when I have to try to pass them again.] THE SETUP Good decent A-OK rest rooms, but a lot less frills in the vending areas. The think that I didn't like about this stop is that the hand dryers felt like they were going to melt your skin off. When the heat-regulator is on SuperNova degrees, you wish there were still paper towels to use. Well, that's why they made jeans, so you can wipe your hands on them. THE LOWDOWN An okay rest stop that needs a "mild"-(temperature) attitude adjustment.

Northbound on I-5 is this reststop - about 2 hrs to the Bay Area or further north to Stockton & Sacto. Good place to walk the dog, use the simple facilities - spartan, no frills - , vending machines including ice bars- good to have coins just in case. Picnic tables in shaded locations. No overnight stays. Good break from the monotony of white line fever before drinking into the congested metropolitan spillovers coming up. Review #200

    CLEAN restrooms!

Nice place to stop, pretty clean and good lighting. The vending machine kind ate some of the money. But everything else was great.

Over the past 10 years, I think Caltrans has renovated all the rest stops along the 5. If i remember correctly, this one was done a while back, and while they did a good job, it's amazing how quickly these things start to look their their old dingy selves. I guess high winds and dust storms and baking in 100-plus-degree heat will do that to a rest stop--er, "area." My most recent visit was this past spring, so all the plant life was green and lush and beautiful. I'm sure it's already brown again. The restrooms are clean, but they're not as clean as they can be. The tables are beneath wind and rain shelters, but they're situated in a strange way, and they're not terribly comfortable to sit at, especially if the wind is cool like it was that day. My eight-year-old niece was excited to spy a few wild creatures. I think we saw some rabbits and what looked like a prairie dog.

Whenever I'm making the trek north or south, the John Chuck Erreca Rest Area is a good place for a pitstop whether it's for a quick break to the bathroom or a short, three hour nap. Photo - http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/john-chuck-erreca-rest-area-no-title?select=yQKQ8Y151aNA4zcpnboerA#yzAonRRhND5gtVWAYcg7LA Why 5 Stars for a rest area?... 'Because our tax dollars pay for it AND it would be nuts to think of all the gas stations, restaurants, and grocery stores with the plethora of travelers stopping going in/out to use the restrooms or camping out to catch up on some rest. Value, priceless. My thoughts on this are as follows: 1. Places like this are a privilege, NOT a right. 2. The state/government doesn't have to provide a roadside rest area, public park, beach, or a "place with a great view." (i.e. - Vista point) 3. I'm thankful and appreciative for these amenities. Photo - http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/john-chuck-erreca-rest-area-no-title?select=yQKQ8Y151aNA4zcpnboerA#p_NYwikzCJv_l3LUhQotLA I've made this trip so many times that without rest areas, the drives would be much more grueling... 'And if you're traveling with your four-legged companion(s) like I do with HAPA Boy, my bully-pit, even more so. Photo - http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/john-chuck-erreca-rest-area-no-title?select=yQKQ8Y151aNA4zcpnboerA#8dbc8PmJKiuYCjaLla1DpA The John Chuck Erreca Rest Area is relatively clean, well maintained, with lots of ample parking. However, the vending machines/selections are a bit sparse... They offer cold water, soda, coffee, snacks and even ice cream. It's not the greatest selection BUT will do in a pinch. After all, who comes to a rest area for an egg salad sandwich or pastrami on rye? (This is real life, NOT "Futurama..." 'Unfortunately.) Photo - http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/john-chuck-erreca-rest-area-no-title?select=yQKQ8Y151aNA4zcpnboerA#HdkxM05Nhp7_i1CwE37eqA Also, the John Chuck Erreca Rest Area has public telephones. At first, I thought, "Why bother, just about everyone has a cell phone?... 'Even 10 year olds have 'em!" However, if your cellphone was out of juice w/no power source, lost or broken, a public payphone would come in very handy. It wouldn't be too fun to be stranded out here in the middle of the 5 FWY without any means to call someone. There are a few covered picnic tables which can be very helpful in the 100F, summer heat... 'And it does get HOT out here, very, very HOT. Photo - http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/john-chuck-erreca-rest-area-no-title?select=yQKQ8Y151aNA4zcpnboerA#ym0xr45yRuXlIYw1Ao3Isg 'And on that note, dog owners, be mindful of the blazing hot asphalt when you're out & about with your pets. (Dog pads can get third degree burns and in severe instances, even melt off.) One happy, "HAPA" - http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/john-chuck-erreca-rest-area-no-title?select=ZnOu7WWWV0dSaaW-Tprp9A#ZnOu7WWWV0dSaaW-Tprp9A I'm very thankful for the number of rest areas as well as the posted signs along the 5 FWY. (Rest Area 15 miles) Having rest areas available to everyone provides a safe, convenient place for weary travelers to take a break. Based on that factor alone, solid 5 Stars. Why did they put giant speed bumps on the truck side. We are in an 40 ft RV and this was not any fun. Ridiculous. Get rid of them.

Highly recommend visiting this Restaurant in the holiday season, you may enjoy the high quality meal and jollable holiday vibe. My friend order the 14 oz ribeye and I ordered 8oz filet mignon. It is a three course set. Soup(or Salad), bread and main course with two sides. The serve of the food matches the volume as it describe on the meau. It is quite a lot for girl. The chef or the culinary staff is expert on steak grilling. The crust of Filet mignon tastes caramel crunch. The inner of Filet mignon is perfectly soft tender. When you bite it, you still can feel the texture but not raw. It is warm and flavored tender. We enjoyed our dinner at regular restaurant. They also have the high end restaurant in the same building which combine with a classic drink bar.(adult only) if you would like to have a full experience of the premium steak paired with wine. Judging by the menu it was obvious that the menu has been revised to highlight their more expensive selections. For that matter, ALL of their selections, I believe, can be called expensive. Our meals were delicious. My wife selected the filet mignon with soup (clam chowder). I selected the rib eye steak with garden salad. All delicious. Steaks were tender, and although I could not identify mine as a rib eye, it was delicious nonetheless the less. The portions were generous- about half of each of our meals went home with us. The only negative on the meal was my coffee. I like strong black coffee. This coffee was so strong, and quite bitter also, that I asked for,and graciously received, a cup of hot water to dilute it. Even so. It still was barely drinkable and I didn't finish one cup. Not wanting to hurt the moment, I said no more about it. The service was good and sufficient. The ambiance makes one feel that they are in somewhere special. The return soon feeling was not there, but I'm sure we'll be back.
