The wall art on the outside of the bathrooms are really cool.

This is a really clean and modern rest area. It has new automatic toilets, sinks, and hand dryers. There is a little trail that shows some California facts. There is a nice picnic area and also a grassy area. The grassy area does not allow pets.

    Well lit and clean

My job took me out to Bakersfield, and the roundtrip from the SF Bay Area took me down I-5 and back. During the trip, I visited 3 reststops and by far the John Erreca Northbound Stop at Firebaugh was the best. I was there around 1030pm, and it had lots of visitors. The place was clean and well lit. The vending machines weren't caged up, and the restroom was clean. Also, I didn't see any homeless people hanging around, or strange people loitering about. Easy off and on ramps. Lots of parking for cars and light trucks. Huge area for big trucks and RVs.

The sign said No Vending, yet there it is.

We got on I5 north after taking Ave 7 and 12 from Fresno on our way to Monterey (To avoid the stops in Los Banos). As soon as we got on the freeway, there was this nice rest area. Lots of green grass. The restrooms were clean. There were covered picnic areas. Although an entrance sign indicated there was no vending, there was. The hubby noticed they even had an ice cream vending machine!

Finally a test area open , Great grass area for pets ,

Crazy busy, as I guess all the other travelers were thinking or needing the same thing. Easy in and out, even with so many people here. But unfortunately for me, the people who parked next to me were poor drivers... How hard is it to park in a parking space?!?! Well stocked with snacks and drinks. And they "get" you when you walk in, see my picture of the popcorn. I forced myself not to buy it, lol. Atmosphere - Decent size location. Again, easy in and out. Service - Good, mostly self service. Price - Expensive, but then that is the cost of convenience. Especially in the middle of nowhere. Owner Comment - Congrats on your success since 1906 as Standard Oil Company (CA). While I've passed this point several times, I didn't think this would be interesting, after stopping on the other side. There is much to see, as you can tell from the photos. The best photos, depending on your camera, might be taken on the driveway itself. They didn't exactly think to move it from the edge or the guard rail.

'Vista points like this one, the California Aqueduct, qualify as well. It's called Vista Point - California Aqueduct because it sits adjacent to the aqueduct. "You are here!" - http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/vista-point-california-aqueduct-newman?select=WhzgFy-UFMQjD3GQSa3-hw My thoughts on this are as follows: 1. Places like this are a privilege, NOT a right. 2. The state/government doesn't have to provide a roadside rest area, public park, beach, or a "place with a great view." (i.e. - Vista point) 3. I'm thankful and appreciative for these amenities. If you've ever played @ a city/state park, beach, used a public restroom, stopped @ a rest area to stretch your legs on a long @ss road trip, then you too have enjoyed the benefits of just what I'm talking about. The next time you come upon a vista point, you may want to take a moment and check it out... It'll only take a mere 15 - 30 minutes out of your very, long & exciting drive. Sometimes you just have to stop and enjoy the view... 'And if you time it just right, catch an awesome sunset. I've stopped at a few vista points on my many road trips to and from Southern California. I've been to this particular I-5 south, vista point three or four times. Think of a vista point as a barebones rest stop... 'With a view. There's no restrooms, no water, just a paved lot... 'And a view. The view - http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/vista-point-california-aqueduct-newman?select=QcqMRqbTfnjlh-HicROE0A Often, when I do drive by this location, I usually see a big rig sitting up here and on this particular day it was no different. There was a big rig, plus a small RV, and a couple who like me simply stopped to catch the sun as it set and disappeared into the horizon. For me, it wasn't just "another road trip sunset." Metaphorically, it was much more... The sun was setting on a yet another chapter of this adventure we call life. (Hey, I'm no Walt Whitman but I try.) Make it Great! Laugh well, laugh often... 'Even if it's @ someone else, pointing is optional. HAPA Boy & I catching the sunset - http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/vista-point-california-aqueduct-newman?select=H7OyMqrQIsfyjCVP9G3pwQ - Big Aloha! The shop is nicely stocked with snacks, cold drinks, hot popcorn, hot dogs rolling about on the heated trays, and a bunch more. There is an adjoining I HOP. Next to the IHOP is a Popeyes. There are some electric chargers near the Popeyes. Not sure which brand they were. The gas pricing has a ok. Comparable to the multitude of other stations along in that area. The women's restroom is not great though. Older worn toilets and fixtures. No toilet seat covers. The majority of the interior toilet bowl enamel was chipped and worn making it look unclean. I entered several stalls thinking the toilets weren't cleaned (remnants) until I realized the attendant just cleaned them. Besides a restroom refresh, the TA could stand to refresh the parking lot space paint lines in the front lot. The lines are worn out and many drivers are driving straight through all willy nilly while cars are trying to park in the spaces. A bit chaotic.
