While I've passed this point several times, I didn't think this would be interesting, after stopping on the other side. There is much to see, as you can tell from the photos. The best photos, depending on your camera, might be taken on the driveway itself. They didn't exactly think to move it from the edge or the guard rail.

'Vista points like this one, the California Aqueduct, qualify as well. It's called Vista Point - California Aqueduct because it sits adjacent to the aqueduct. "You are here!" - http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/vista-point-california-aqueduct-newman?select=WhzgFy-UFMQjD3GQSa3-hw My thoughts on this are as follows: 1. Places like this are a privilege, NOT a right. 2. The state/government doesn't have to provide a roadside rest area, public park, beach, or a "place with a great view." (i.e. - Vista point) 3. I'm thankful and appreciative for these amenities. If you've ever played @ a city/state park, beach, used a public restroom, stopped @ a rest area to stretch your legs on a long @ss road trip, then you too have enjoyed the benefits of just what I'm talking about. The next time you come upon a vista point, you may want to take a moment and check it out... It'll only take a mere 15 - 30 minutes out of your very, long & exciting drive. Sometimes you just have to stop and enjoy the view... 'And if you time it just right, catch an awesome sunset. I've stopped at a few vista points on my many road trips to and from Southern California. I've been to this particular I-5 south, vista point three or four times. Think of a vista point as a barebones rest stop... 'With a view. There's no restrooms, no water, just a paved lot... 'And a view. The view - http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/vista-point-california-aqueduct-newman?select=QcqMRqbTfnjlh-HicROE0A Often, when I do drive by this location, I usually see a big rig sitting up here and on this particular day it was no different. There was a big rig, plus a small RV, and a couple who like me simply stopped to catch the sun as it set and disappeared into the horizon. For me, it wasn't just "another road trip sunset." Metaphorically, it was much more... The sun was setting on a yet another chapter of this adventure we call life. (Hey, I'm no Walt Whitman but I try.) Make it Great! Laugh well, laugh often... 'Even if it's @ someone else, pointing is optional. HAPA Boy & I catching the sunset - http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/vista-point-california-aqueduct-newman?select=H7OyMqrQIsfyjCVP9G3pwQ - Big Aloha! Basically something off the freeway that's kind of in the middle of nowhere. We stopped by for the restroom which would be the first time here. Honestly, it wasn't much to it. It's like walking into a 7'11 or your local AM/PM. Your traditional gas station with your basic. Chips, candies, snack, convenience store. Loads of drinks, of course the hot station with hot dogs and nachos where you help yourself. And then there's the selections of random souvenir you would only see at gas stations. They did have a decent gas station as well as a little dog park that's right next door for the pets to release themselves and get some fresh air. That's a nice little thing added to it. I can say that everyone working there was very sweet and friendly. They greeted everyone that walked through the door which majority was for the restroom. And thanked everyone for stopping by. You don't get that often at places like this. Nothing major but was nice to actually go to one and see what it was all about.

Enoch Christoffersen Rest Stop: 2026 July (5 of 5)…read more Safety First! Traveling alone can be exciting but weary. I find that I need to make frequent stops to rest my eyes. Enoch Christoffersen Rest Area is one of the safest stops that offers amenities: restrooms, water fountain, and picnic tables. This stop is also dog friendly. The patch of grass is perfect for your four-legged family members to stretch their paws. There's a stand with doggy-poop bags that makes it easy to clean up after them. There are plenty of parking spots but bear in mind that this is not an overnight stop. Located about 2.3 miles South of Turlock, CA, Enoch Christoffersen Rest Area is accessible from California State Highway Route 99. It is a state-managed facility and is well maintained. During the summer months, you will witness beautiful coloured flowers that pop up here and there. Stop to use the facilities, stretch your legs, and enjoy the flowers planted at Enoch Christoffersen Rest Area.

Clean restrooms (a surprise), level parking and even a few spots with some shade. It is named for the former mayor of Turlock who served for 22 years and lobbied hard to ensure that Highway 99 was a help to the city. [Review 21021 overall - 537 in California - 2006 of 2023.]
