Great little hot spring in the middle of nowhere. Stayed nearby in a rural house and came to the hot spring for the day. It's $50 per person for a day use pass at holiday rates. They have a couple different areas with personal sized tubs that you can fill with hot spring water. The water comes out at just the right temperature for me. There is cleaning spray to spray the tubs down before and after use. There is a clothing optional area as well as a pool. Everything was decently maintained. It's not a luxury spa retreat, but a nice off the beaten path kind of place. There are also campsites, cabins, and rv sites available. There is hiking as well in the beautiful rolling foothills and desert landscape. read more

So disappointed in this place. Even the 13 miles into desolate California hills didn't deter me from looking forward to it. The woman at the front desk touted it as something so unique and rustic which is certainly is, but in a hasn't been renovated in years kind of way. There was moss growing in the pool edges, and the tubs, of which the upper ones are from 100 years ago, definitely show it. In general, many of the tubs had the enamel cracking, others with rust on them, like they haven't been redone, also in years! For $55 for day use I got access to soaking tubs that I filled myself and a heated pool all from their special water. That's it. No other amenities whatsoever except tea. You had to rent towels, there were no pool toys to borrow, & hard wooden chairs to sit/lay on. A coconut water was $5. And with day use you had to park your car out in the main parking lot with no shade. It seemed like the kind of place where they just want to make money off of people. Maybe it's worth it, according to some people, if you camp, or get a tiny, tiny cabin for $250 a night! Still the camp sites are quite isolated, it's only $75, and you can spend all the way till late in the tubs, so that's in their defense. Plus the water did help me feel better for a day. But it's definitely not at all worth going all that way with so few amenities, just for day use. I defintely will not be going back. I'd prefer to make the trip down to Glen Ivy or up to Harbin... My name is Matthew and I'm a devotional musician and yoga teacher. I've been to Mercey hot springs several times over the past 5 years, usually with my partner. Always had great experiences. BUT My last experience was literally one of the most disturbing of my life at any hotspring or campground. I arrived just after dark around 6:30pm from 3 straight days on the road, driving from the tip of Baja back to NorCal. I checked in to one of Mercey's camp sites for a much needed rest and soak. I was bummed to discover at check in that they had removed their beautiful sauna which was one big reason I wished to return. Oh well not a huge deal. So I soaked, and then decided to check a few emails before going to bed. It was now 7:30pm. I realized I did not know where I put the little paper with the wifi code so I went to the office to ask. As nobody was there (even though they say they are open until 8pm) I saw a fellow camper walking towards the office and asked her in a friendly way for the code, like any human who's friendly with the ability to speak might do.. she seemed cool enough and could not remember the password and so went back to her van to get the password which was at site #1 just 50 yards or so from the office. I thanked her and walked along the trail alongside the pools towards my camp. Which was a couple spaces beyond the woman and her husband's camp. I realized that the wifi signal dropped halfway to my camp and so I leaned up against the poolside fence on the campsite trail, and checked my email there for about 10mins where the signal was still present. The next thing I know there's a lazer pointed on my head and chest, and a man yelling "move on"! I was shocked and taken aback as I had no idea what was happening. The man started walking towards me aggressively with the lazer in my face saying "you better move on now"! Implying that behind the lazer is a gun pointing towards me. I exchanged some startled words with the man who would not speak to me humanly, but continued to aggressively and coercively point the lazer in my face, blinding me from seeing the man or knowing if he had a gun or not. I told him that "I'm simply a fellow camper checking my email where there's signal" in which he responded over and again "BS you're a trespasser" viciously. I told him how outrageous this is, now angry and fearful, and stormed towards the office wondering if I was going to be shot at any moment. I got to the office and used the intercom to share what happened. Two men arrived, one who turned out to be just an employee was very empathetic as I initially shared with him not knowing who was who. Then the other man (who I discovered later to be the manager) stepped in and Nastily said "just refund him so he can be on his way..he should not have been talking to anyone in the dark". I got zero empathy from him, nor did he listen to the whole side of my story before quickly judging. I was left speechless, when he snortingly said "do you want your refund to go or not?" I was absolutely appalled and told him yes I do. He made zero mention of talking to the aggressive camper who might have a gun, and provided absolutely ZERO empathy for the traumatizing/unjustified experience I just had. He then walked out of the office leaving me with the employee who surprisingly said "wow I did not think he would react like that". The employee gave me my my money, apologizing and I left the office. The manager was lingering outside and watched me leave staring at me coldly saying nothing. Definitely in my top 3 of extremely disappointing human experiences.. especially it being at hot spring/supposed place of peace and well being. read more

Booked the cabin for a buddy's bachelor party to kick back and get some R&R. We didnt really know what to expect other than the fact we wanted to kick back, hang out, and experience some hot springs. Upon driving up to the property - it felt like we were going the wrong way as its pretty deep in the "middle of nowhere". (Drive safely at night!) It was super easy to check in and the cabin was quite amazing and fit 5 people pretty easily. It was a nice calm way to spend some time together and enjoy the peace. We spent some time walking around the grounds and really enjoyed our time regardless of the heat. The hotsprings were more aligned to stone tubs with water from a hot spring. this didnt quite some of the images of hot springs that our group had, but was still quite an experience to relax in. After some time in the hotsprings, we migrated to the pool and finally the sauna. all of the facilities were great! Dont forget to bring enough food and supplies (specifically water) for your stay as there is a limited stock in the office. They noted this on their website and they mean it. The best part in my opinion is the clear skies at night. The darkness really allowed the stars to come out and they will really blow you away. The time we spent just hanging out with a clear view of the milky way was truly memorable. If you can I would stay away from taking the J1 (panoche rd) towards the 25 as the quality of the road is nowhere as nice as the I5 and i was dodging holes in the road the whole way back to the bay area. read more

First timer here. It's about 2.5 hours drive from San Francisco. Our group of 10 reserved 2 camping sites next to each other for 2 nights. They also have 2 large airstreams, RV parking and several cabins for rent. If you are not staying over night, they allow day use of their pool and tubs. Remember to bring your own towels! After registering you are given a colored wrist band. There's a different colored one for day use. Toilets and showers are close by and plentiful. This place isn't popular yet and we never felt crowded or had to wait our turn for use of their tubs. Noise level is to be kept at a minimum. Each camp site has a fire pit, some with a grill and some also with a water spigot. Keep in mind if you are camping in the summer they don't allow fire burning. There's also a short hike up to the peak near by with a bench, perfect for watching the sunrise or sunset. My friends discovered a labyrinth made out of bricks on one of their hikes. You may see some wild bunnies and you will hear owls hooting at night and birds chirping. Pool is open from 9am-9pm and soaking tubs are open from 8am-11pm. Try to come during a meteor shower, I'm sure it will be amazing to soak under the stars! The pool range from 3ft to 5ft to 8ft deep. There's no life guard. As this is hot spring water, it may take you some time to get use to the boiled eggs smell. Keep in mind, the nearest major grocery store is about 50 minutes away. They do have a mini store at registration for like ice, coffee, snacks, drinks and portable propane. There is a clothing optional area with 5 single tubs and 3 double tubs but no pool. For the clothing required area there's 5 single tubs and 2 double tubs with a pool. Both areas have patio umbrellas for each tub in case the sun is harsh. The clothing optional area is a bit more outdated. I'm unsure about weekdays, but on weekends they offer free yoga under their giant tent at 11am. Remember to bring your yoga mat or buy one at registration. Lastly they have 2 communal bbq grills, a gazebo, picnic tables and patio chairs. Check out is 11am but they allow day use up to 2pm. Registration staff lady is very friendly, and as long as you follow the rules you won't deal with the owners which unfortunately I have not heard nice things about. read more

One sleepless night in Airstream #1 cost $360. The bed was lumpy, the blanket thin and worn, and the bedsheets stiff. Beware of the resort's many rules. No talking in common spaces, but the staff constantly zip around in noisy golf carts. Much was not available during my stay. No private hot tubs. Too much artificial light for star gazing. Hot tubs and pool closed at 9 pm and reopened at 9 am. I thought the hot tub water, on hot undiluted, was too cool for a soak, but the swimming pool was nicely heated. We met both a friendly, younger relative of the owner and a grumpy older maintenance man. There are some nice crafty pieces of woodwork. This is not a place to go as a couple or with children. The impression I am left with is that the owners like the guests' money more than the actual guests. read more

Truly sad to write an update... I appreciate that new owners have tried to invest more in the property, but it is no longer reliably tranquil here, the staff friendliness and hospitality can really be lacking, and the prices have climbed dramatically despite the accommodations being pretty rustic (which I liked when they were under $100/night.) There is a very uncomfortable mix of rule enforcement and lack of rule enforcement that is a big turn off to me. To be honest, I preferred this place under prior ownership, and wouldn't recommend it so highly today. read more

A hidden gem and oasis of tranquility. 2 hours south of the Bay Area and just 15min off I5, this nice facility is built around natural hot springs. It's a quiet place, well maintained, the views are stunning. In 2021, cabins ran for 200-300, tent/RV camping for 70, and limited-time day use for 50. Campsites are nicely arranged around the pool/tubs. If staying there, the open time is 8am to 11pm. There is a pool naturally heated with spring water and hot tubs where you can soak to your hearts content. You have to follow the rules which keeps it quiet and safe for everyone. The reception area has a small store with frozen foods, snacks, water at reasonable prices. The Phoenix common area is building with nice seating and a wood stove for heating. The second set of hot tubs a little bit up are clothing-optional and quiet. The tubs are a bit older and smaller but it's worth it. The tubs by the pool are longer - better for taller people. At night, the stars are bright on a clear night - the view is amazing. Everything is in great condition. The tubs, landscaping, tiling, buildings. You can tell the orders spent a lot of time and money on this place. They have a filtered drinking water dispenser. The accommodation and usage fees are well worth it. While I have not stayed in a cabin yet, I found the camping area really nice with small pine trees separating the sites - better than at state parks. There are owls around - sweet to hear their calls at night. If you spend the night here don't leave without a morning soak in the tub's with a cup of coffee - pure bliss. The Hot Springs were known by the native Indians and the name comes from the name of the man who acquired the land. read more

would be interested but those solar panels polluting the view and rolling greenery are enough (sadness) that you can't get away from the techie bs, to keep me away from natural view . tacky. maybe put them on your building but not that gorgeous natural hillside. read more

Didn't like the fact that we couldn't relax and listen to some music without the manager coming out and harassing us over us playing music.. wasn't loud we where having conversations not yelling at each other and there was only 3 out of 10 campsites being used.. Crazy.. and I paid a thousand dollars to park my rv here for 6 days.. Crazy expensive and they don't offer any food.. Not to happy with this place.. read more

Super tranquil and relaxing. Would recommend for sure. It's nicer than the website makes it look. Having said that it is not a luxury resort - so if that's what you are looking for, look again. It's rustic in a good way. Clean and well taken care of but simple. We stayed in a campsite and enjoyed it. Campsite E-5 is definitely the best of you can get it. Campsites are all close together, but people seemed really respectful and noise wasn't a problem. The walk-in campsites looked more secluded, but you do have to walk to them and they are very small. There is a little noise from the highway, but it's not bad. The staff was very kind and welcoming. Pool is awesome for kids. I think they said it was 88 degrees and is filled with mineral water too. I booked a massage with them too which was a great compliment to the hot tubs and sauna. I think my only complaint is that there are not very many bathrooms. Oh, and I suppose it wouLd be nice to be able to make fires year round, but I get it, California is prone to burn. read more

Such a hidden gem! My friend and I wanted to explore Pinnacles and stumbled upon this resort while searching for AirBnB's online. We're glad we took a chance on it because it was a highlight of our trip! We stayed in on of the Airstreams and it was more luxurious than my regular life. There was a comfy queen bed, shower, toilet, and fully stocked kitchen on board as well as a fire pit with firewood and a grill outside. Everything was so well maintained, it seemed brand new. The hot spring bath was absolutely perfect, especially at night when you can sit back and see the stars. The location is also idyllic with tons of birds, rabbits, and cows nearby. A great retreat. This was our second visit to Mercey Hot Springs and it's going to become a regular stop when we need a break. It's easier to access from the I-5 side (from the East), but we always come in from the Hollister-Tres Pinos-Paicines side because the drive is beautiful. It's out in the middle of cow country and the only nearby place to go is the Panoche Inn. Los Banos - the nearest shopping - is about 40 minutes away. The site is totally solar powered (though they do have a backup generator when needed and it is baffled). We stay in on the RV spots that has electrical, water and septic hookups. There is solid WiFi. It is really like an oasis. We lost track of the number of birds - including three different breeds of owls. Cottontail and jackrabbits are all over the place and plenty of squirrels hang out in the campgrounds. The hot springs tubs are great. They have side-by-side tubs for couples. They close at 9 p.m. but we may have stayed a little longer for star gazing. And they have a hot-spring-heated pool, which was also great for lounging around. The staff was very friendly and helpful (thank you Rick for all your help) and we actually decide to extend our trip two days just because it was so relaxing (and I could work remotely). They do have a few food items for sale - cold drinks, water, stuff for s'mores, microwaveable meals - but if you're looking for any more than that, you need to bring it. We actually made a run to Los Banos and asked our neighbors whether they needed anything. We definitely recommend MHS and will be back. read more

History

Established in 1890.

Originally settled by John Nicolas Merci for raising sheep and cattle, Merci changed the spelling of his name to Mercy to be more "Americanized". Mercey sold the property to Frederick Bourn, a real estate developer out of San Francisco in the 1890's which is when many of the existing buildings were constructed and the resort was established. The new resort did well but, as with most hot spring resorts, hard times went hand-in-hand with the economy and it eventually fell into disrepair and ownership passed to several people along the way. The current owners have done a lot to bring the resort back to life and have refurbished many of the buildings which include six cabins (now overnight rentals) that were originally employee quarters. Recent upgrades include sixteen outdoor tubs, a swimming pool, sauna, and three indoor tubs as well as a hybrid Renewable Energy system that provides power 24-hours per day. Current projects include a body treatment center soon to be open.

Meet the Business Owner: Larry R.

Larry has 23 years of experience working in the computer field for companies such as Wangtek, Archive and Western Digital, the latter of which is a multi-billion dollar disk drive manufacturing company. At Western Digital, he spent 5 1/2 years managing three departments (Document Control, Engineering Services and Information Services), comprising 12 direct-report employees. Larry is responsible for designing, implementing and maintaining the renewable energy systems, pumps, computer hardware, software and internet systems, all of which are vital to the operations of the resort. He is also project manager for most of the renovation projects, and he maintains the company's books.

I believe it was the residents building that was next door. I was able to zone the howling out, but just an fyi if you don't and you're trying to find some peace and quiet.

Judging by the menu it was obvious that the menu has been revised to highlight their more expensive selections. For that matter, ALL of their selections, I believe, can be called expensive. Our meals were delicious. My wife selected the filet mignon with soup (clam chowder). I selected the rib eye steak with garden salad. All delicious. Steaks were tender, and although I could not identify mine as a rib eye, it was delicious nonetheless the less. The portions were generous- about half of each of our meals went home with us. The only negative on the meal was my coffee. I like strong black coffee. This coffee was so strong, and quite bitter also, that I asked for,and graciously received, a cup of hot water to dilute it. Even so. It still was barely drinkable and I didn't finish one cup. Not wanting to hurt the moment, I said no more about it. The service was good and sufficient. The ambiance makes one feel that they are in somewhere special. The return soon feeling was not there, but I'm sure we'll be back.

Clean and let me say that the shower was fantastic. There is a heater/fan in the bathroom that made getting out of the shower, pleasantly warm. Toiletries are of nice quality. Our dog, Sian found the stick library very useful and she had a blast going after it on the beach and in the ocean. She even brought it back to the library the morning we left, for others to use during their stay. The pet welcome is a nice touch. This site is very pet friendly. Not so much for the timeshares that are on the same property. And that's fine. Parking is not allowed at the units. You are driven to your unit by one of the great golf cart drivers. Zach was our driver. Loaded all our luggage on to the the cart. As we journeyed to our cottage, Zach pointed out sites as well as amenities. Unloaded our luggage as wll as went and got us ice as we settled in. If you need help getting to your car, onsite restaurant or the lobby, just call the lobby about 10 minutes before you want to go and someone will be there. The restaurant is great. We ate there twice and had breakfast delivered to our unit twice. The bread platter... OMG... the bread platter. We loved it so much that we went to Otto's bakery in Salinas on our way out of town to bring it home with us. The restaurant is not open for breakfast but, at check in, you will get a room service menu that that's how you can have breakfast onsite. More on the restaurant in that review... Can't wait to go back. Have to say that overall, this is probably in our top 3 of vacation spots. Including Hawaii. It's just great.

We paid around $1,000 for one night, so I arrived excited and expecting something special. Unfortunately, our experience was the opposite. Many of the pet-friendly touches that influenced me to book were missing at check-in. There was no personalized dog welcome setup, no dog package, and my dog's name was not on the welcome sign until I called later. I had also requested a simple welcome card for my mother-in-law's first trip to California, and although staff said they would gladly do it, it was never done. We also had multiple room issues throughout the stay. The TV was not working, the phone buttons to reach the front desk did not work, there was no extra pillow for the fold-out bed, and there was even a leftover dog chew from a previous guest found in the bed. To be fair, the maintenance employee was kind and helpful, and the complimentary bottle of wine was appreciated. However, for this price point, the lack of attention to detail and overall service was really disappointing. What upset me most was checkout. I politely explained that I was disappointed and thought at minimum the pet fee might be removed, but there was no effort to make things right beyond emailing the receipt. Beautiful location, but the experience did not match the cost or reputation. I truly wanted to love this stay and left sad and let down instead.

Security along with heavy Police presence makes me feel at ease when gambling. Plenty of table games but No electronic craps or black jack. They have a separate section for those who desire to smoke and play. The rooms are nice. I attached a photo from my bed as I forgot to take a picture before laying down. Yesterday, I discovered a really cool greenhouse and a charming wine museum I had never seen before. There's no charge to enter the wine room, but you need a key card from the lobby to access it. Additionally, there's a cute, small pet park for furry friends. The hotel also features a pond filled with colorful koi fish and another pond with waterfalls. We spotted an adorable turtle just hanging out with some fake ducks. There are a couple of areas with fire pits, and there's even a rose garden. I found a spot where you can play bocce and horseshoes. The courtyard is definitely fun to explore, and the restaurant's view is fantastic. I also learned about a bar called The Lounge. I tried the food at the Kitchen for breakfast and lunch yesterday. The service was slow on both occasions. We had to wait for ten minutes because the staff member at the desk said the server would return by then. I asked if they could seat us while we waited for her break to finish, but we decided to stay anyway. Regardless, the food was excellent both times, so the restaurant kicks ass even though the service doesn't. There are many places to visit outside the hotel. The Korean Memorial is nearby, but we skipped it yesterday. Instead, we discovered a few parks with trails that offer beautiful views of the hills and the San Luis Reservoir. We also visited the Romero Overlook Visitors Center, where you can learn about the water system and the area's history. I'm sure there are more things to do in the area, but that was all we had time for during our adventure yesterday.
