This was a much nicer and cleaner choice of hotel to stay in merced that was nearby families. We were confused to where the front was at but eventually found it after we self parked behind the hotel at the hotel garage. Garage parking was limited. The hotel was modern and had nice chic decorations. There was restaurant inside the hotel but were close when we got there. The hotel room was clean and comfortable with all the bathroom essentials. The only con was that there's no closet. However it was a quick 1 night stay.

Outside is cute, Parking is behind the building.

We've been looking for a mid-state place to stay on our trips up north and approached this with high hopes. It's cute and you can see, from the decor, that they were really trying to have a fun, upscale experience. Overall service was fine, parking was nearby and easy to use. However, there are several areas that really just don't work and why we won't be coming back. The biggest issue is the noise in the room - the walls are paper-thin, we could hear the folks in the next room talking in normal level voices (thank god they went to sleep early!). Streetside rooms are loud - we were on the alley, which would have been fine except for the early morning trash trucks. The housekeeping needed work. The services are a bit odd...a behind-the-main-desk snack offerings would make tons of money, but they've got nothing and the neighborhood isn't the best for finding a late night snack. We weren't impressed by the restaurants - I'd recommend going outside for that. Actually, the best breakfast is just down the street at Marie's Mexican Kitchen...breakfast enchiladas!

Wow! This place is stunning! The decor is amazing! The facility is impeccably clean! I wanted to stay an extra day just to enjoy the beauty of the hotel! I couldn't believe that it was in such a small town! I'm trying to find a reason to return. For those who complained about noise, I heard one train in a distance (and I do live around trains, so I know how annoying they can be), it was not annoying at all! I enjoyed knowing that I had several choices for restaurants. Two of them are accessible in the hotel itself, and one associated with the hotel is less than a block down the street, which was the one I went to since my event ended later in the evening and it was open. The food was delicious. As for my room, I had all the amenities I needed, and the bed was comfortable! Although I didn't use it much, I enjoyed the choices of the TV and being able to hook my iPhone up to it and enjoy the apps I like to watch. In the morning, I was able to make a cup of tea in my room, and I went down and looked at the breakfast choices, which most would be marveled at. If I didn't have to rush to go to my next destination, I would have enjoyed a restaurant breakfast. The only part of the experience I would change is to have the offsite parking more accessible.

A record player inside the rooms.

Wonderful in style Hotel, staff is very informative, with a very nice vintage format in the room. Lots of areas to rest.

This is hands down my favorite hotel to stay at while in Merced or the surrounding area. This used to be a Hilton hotel but they went private like 6 months ago. Anyway, regardless of ownership this is probably one of the prettiest hotels in town. I would highly recommend it to anyone. It's centrally located in beautiful downtown Merced and close to a variety of restaurants and bars. The only downside is that the hotel is tucked between two railroad tracks which doesn't bother me. I love Merced and their friendly people and the beautiful neighborhood!! Merced is worth a visit and so is El Capitan!! El Capitan Hotel in Merced is a historic and elegant hotel that offers a variety of amenities and experiences. According to my web search, El Capitan Hotel was originally built in 1916 to serve train passengers and guests traveling to Yosemite National Park which explains why it is tucked between two railroad tracks. Don't worry they offer free earplugs on their nightstands should it be too loud for you. It was recently renovated and reopened in April 2021, after being a Hilton hotel for some time. It now features 114 guest rooms, a fitness center, a sun terrace, and four distinct dining options, including a restored historic theater.

A nice hotel. Very helpful staff. Great gym. Cool retro decor. Thoughtful amenities including free ear plugs. I wish there was more parking in the parking garage. I ended up on the street because I wouldn't valet my car. Other than that, it was a nice stay.

I think this might be the best hotel in Merced. If not, one of the top three for sure. We stayed 3 days here and 1 day at different hotel. The staff was knowledge of the area and things to do around town (there's not much to do in the area, we were there for an ongoing sporting event). I enjoyed my stay, breakfast, lunch, dinner and the bar without having to leave the hotel. We tried a few other restaurants while in town but they weren't that good to be honest. Hotel Decor 10/10 *El Capitan has a nice eccentric/upscale feel. Room Decor 10/10 *rooms had everything we needed: beverage station, comfy bed, refrigerator, table and lounge chair. Native Son Cafe cocktails 7/10 *suggest getting cocktails from the Rainbird restaurants. The bartenders were able to make a variety of different cocktails Rainbird Resturant 10/10 *suggest making a reservation, they were pretty booked/busy every evening of our stay. Valet Parking 10/10 They also have a parking garage next door, which also doubles as valley and was filled in the evening with city vehicles (good luck finding open parking in garage).

When I arrived, Evelyn was so welcoming and took care of my check-in. She also gave me a rundown of all the hotel's features. My room was spotless and tidy, and there were extra towels, just like I asked for in the app--thank you, Luz! The gym is great and open 24/7, so I could get my workouts in during the mornings. The breakfast was also delicious. Thank you, Kit. The area was well-kept, and she even helped me with the waffle maker. As someone who doesn't eat pork, I was hoping for a turkey or beef option for the sausage. That's my only gripe. One evening, I went to the lobby to grab some snacks and met Stephanie, I think that was her name was. We chatted for a bit, and she even suggested an ice cream cup snack, which was fantastic! Our conversation went so well. She was such a lovely person to talk with. The postcard with the QR code to tip the staff is a nice touch, and I made sure to tip everyone I met. I didn't see Stephanie on the list, though. Thanks to everyone for making my stay so enjoyable. Keep being such wonderful people!

The front desk was extremely short staffed with one person trying to check-in four parties, and the check in process took a long time, mainly spent waiting in line. Our room was not cleaned yet, so we went to an early dinner. When we came back after a leisurely meal, the room was ready but lacked a refrigerator, requiring us to move to a new room next door. My sister pulled the bedspread back, sat down, and immediately started itching. There were short black hairs all over the bottom sheet; my sister has long, blonde hair. We notified the front office, and they immediately sent housekeeping out to change the sheets. It took several hours for the room to cool down, even with the air conditioner cranked up as high as possible. The barn bathroom door did not close all the way, which was unfortunate as we had three people sharing the room. (We're sisters, but come on... some things are private.) Additionally this second room had no towels, and the bathtub was absolutely filthy with black marks all over the bottom sheet. There was no fire alarm in the room. I requested a call from the hotel manager as he/she was not available when we checked out. A woman called me later, saying she was a manager. She told me that our $120 stay would be refunded; (Unfortunately, I did not write down her name.) I also received an email from Kay Dhaliwal (Manager) which did not mention any refund but acknowledged my concerns and thanked me for my feedback. Days Inn did indeed refund me $120, but then charged me $120 TWICE on my card. Since I have nothing in writing documenting the promised refund from the property, I have no further recourse other than to leave reviews. I sent an email back to Ms. Dhaliwal requesting a follow up on the promised refund, but have not received any response. DO NOT RECOMMEND! DIRTY! Poor management and housekeeping!

We were towing a trailer and given permission to park along several spaces since they had many rooms empty for the night. Our room was quite clean. Nothing to report out of line. The worst of it was the air filter for the air conditioner smelled of cigarette smoke. Thankfully, we had a can of air freshener and just hosed it. Overall, the place wasn't bad. The people in the neighboring room left me wondering if they were trying to sell drugs out of the parking lot. Every time we stepped out, there was anywhere from one to three people at the back of their vehicle. Traffic noise wasn't bad. Actually, there was little to no freeway noise and it was far enough from the city Street that you didn't really hear much go by. Would I stay here again? Probably.

Apparently this company is like so many other American companies these days: they love to take your money, but their overarching goal is to give the customer as little as possible in exchange, including little (if any) pride in workmanship or service. The one positive thing I *can* say about this place is that the entire front desk staff, with the exception of one young man who referred to me as "boss," was very nice; however, if you need to reach the front desk from your room, good luck getting them to pick up. (Note to all young men: as I have no employees, nor any DNA test telling me otherwise, I am neither your "boss" nor your "bro". Therefore, please do not refer to me as such, because it's *very* unprofessional and disrespectful.) As for the facility: there was a burned hole in my sheet (the maids can't see a hole 8" from the upper left corner of a fitted sheet when they make a bed? really??), forcing me to sleep on a washcloth because the edges of the burned area were hard and crusty and were scratching against my back. The left end of the towel rack in bathroom was very visibly lower than the right side (are towel racks really so tricky nowadays that they can make their installer look like he's working under the influence?). Paint on bathroom wall & ceiling was peeling--A LOT. No stopper in sink. The breakfast bar was understocked a full half hour before it was supposed to close. And when I came back to my room at 2:30pm, the maid was still cleaning the room 3 doors down from mine (she never even bothered to knock to *see* if I wanted my room serviced--that means no clean towels, no *nothing*; and no, I did *not* have the "Do Not Disturb" sign hanging outside). Now, I realize no one from corporate, nor the franchisee of this property, gives a damn about what I've said here because all this could have easily been prevented or corrected before I was assigned my room... IF they took any pride in their product (which is why I didn't bother reporting it to management--if *anyone* knows about the lousy shape this building's in, they do; obviously, no one cares ). So I kinda think of this review as my equivalent of the free night's stay (I only stayed 2 nights) I deserved but would never have gotten had I complained to management (because I've dealt with these kinds of people before---I'm on vacation, and I'm simply not going to waste my time getting upset with people who care less about their product than I do). I believe this is the first time I've ever stayed at a Quality Inn; and I'm not anxious to repeat the experience. "Quality" comes in levels, and this "quality" was right down there with Motel 6. They should really change their name to "Good Luck Inn," because the "quality" you're going to get is a complete crapshoot (unless, of course, this is typical of *all* their properties, in which case they should just change their name to Motel 6 and be done with it). Makes me glad I can't afford to go on vacation more than I do.
