I stayed here on the 4th of July. The room was very large, very clean, and overall quiet. It was very comfortable. Ample parking. The water pressure in the shower was great! The price, I thought, was great! The pool was closed - that was the only negative. The free breakfast in the morning has a lot of options. I just had coffee though and it was tasty. So I'll give this spot a solid 3. Let's start with the good. Everything you'd expect from a best western is here. Comfortable beds AC Roomy suite Mini fridge Microwave Soaps Decent shower Free Breakfast Staff was on point. Friendly and welcoming, they're working with what they got. We stayed in the Accessibility room (131) which is good, because I have a broken hand, a bad knee. My son was travelling with me, so him having his own bed was required. It was rainy and the walkways were very slippery. My son slipped twice. The accessibility shower worked out great. I will say though that they should consider installing a $30 bidet from Amazon and just make wand style showerheads standard in all rooms. (I need a bidet due to medical reasons) The shower was 120 degrees or so. I get that this saves money, and makes the shower safer, but I like my shower on the warmer side. Please consider raising the thermostat to 130. There was one major issue though... While I'm sure the shower drain U pipe gets water regularly, the one in the middle of the bathroom (nearest the toilet) does not. This resulted in a sewer smell coming back into the bathroom which was not pleasant. I took a cup of water, poured it down, and opened the bathroom window for it to air out. Additionally there was some caulk between the bathroom and the main room which looks like it could use some renewal. As a few other reviews have pointed out there is noise, but it's not horribly bad for us in this room. We could hear the rumble of the nearby freeway. We were next to the ice/soda machine and didn't hear another guest even once. Once we were in "Go to bed" mode we had no issues with getting a solid nights sleep. The breakfast was less than I expected however. I've stayed at another BW (Corte Madera) and there was meat with that breakfast. (Sausage and Bacon) There was no meat here. There was "Sausage Burrito" fixing, but the tortilla's were cold, and so small the best you could make was a soft taco. There was scrambled eggs, they were OK. Cereal and milk. Still a bit better than you'd get at other hotels, but I was just expecting at least a little more proteins than just egg. There is no hot tub with the pool. The pool is not heated either so we didn't bother to use it. The exercise room has a bike, a treadmill, and some weights, but the bike is broken (it says press the enter button to start, but the button doesn't work) Overall: I try to be as fair as possible and only ding for things in control of the hotel owners, using other Best Westerns as a baseline. While the room was clean, the bathroom had issues (Drain U pipe, caulking). While there are exercise amenities, they're out of order or short (Non heated pool, no hot tub, broken exercise equipment) While there's a breakfast, it's missing meat. Noise of the freeway isn't something they can control. The walkways were slippery when wet. For the price, it's fair, and it's cozy. Likely my son and I will stay here again next year, for next years Snelling Bike race, which gives them a year to try and address some of these things I've pointed out. read more

The staff was friendly, courteous and helpful. The heater worked well, the room was clean, the bed (king) was huge, everything (mostly) worked. There were two USB ports for charging phones, iPads & laptops. Looked like it was recently renovated. Ours was the best room in the facility, on the far right behind rooms that shielded it from much of the noise from the (very) nearby 99 Freeway and railroad tracks. On the negative side, there were four trains maybe 100 yards away at night and the freeway 50 yards away! The little things seemed to have been reduced to the absolute minimum. Thin blankets. Tiny "closet" - really just a narrow space with a shelf and hanger bar. Water pressure and temperature in shower and sink barely adequate. Typical breakfast offerings. But no orange juice, one morning no bacon. I could have used a bigger bowl for cereal, but at least the selections weren't all high-sugar. No donuts. We didn't try the coffee. read more

This place was a god send for me. I'm here on business with my company I had reserved another motel let's just say it was one of the dirtiest places I have ever seen I literally feared for my safety. I called up this place they got me a room the room is so beautiful a sight for sore eyes. The hotel front desk and I'm assuming manager where so understanding and caring I literally can't thank them enough for getting me a room so fast. They even let me have my baby pug dog and a parking space for my commercial truck. As a female traveling alone I couldn't ask for a safer environment they have cameras and it's well lit. Was not what I expected but it did fine. I guess I should not be surprised at how the place looked like since it was located in a shady city in the first place. This Best Western was more on the low end side of what you expect a best western would be from others. First of all, the lady at the front desk was nice and friendly. The place was really busy and crowded. The parking area is small and I prefer to not even park in their parking lot. I asked the lady if they have parking for semis. She said they do on the side street. They really do not having parking on the side street. If you do park on the side street it makes the road more tight and if a car isn't paying attention they can easily hit you. Luckily enough the bar that's next to the hotel is permeant shutdown so we were able to park the semi in that parking lot. The room was pretty decent though I feel like I paid more for what its worth. The room was clean. Bed was nice with extra pillows and comfy enough to sleep one night. Tv worked. Room was spacious. They did not have enough towels but they had cute little face, body bar soap and even shampoo and conditioner. They are also pet friendly but charge $22 plus tax for the pet. They also give you a doggie treat bag filled with some treats and doggie pick up bags. I thought that was a nice gesture. I was surprised at the selection of breakfast they got being in the pandemic and all. They sure went out their way to try and make their customers get best breakfast they can get. Most hotels just have a few packaged donut, water bottle and send you on your way. But this place has waffles, cereal, yogurt, orange juice, of course everything is individual wrap. Can't say if it was good, I just grab a few thing and left because I was in a hurry. The only real negative thing I have to say about this place was the noise. If you are a light sleeper, you will be awake all night. The place is located right next to the freeway which was fine for me. I can handle freeway noise. It was all the other noises that you can hear that bothered me. You basically can hear everything that is outside the door. You can tell when anyone walk passed the door. Great customer service. The rooms are remodeled and very clean. Modern decor with wood floors. The beds were very comfortable. I appreciate the shutters rather than curtains for the window. We had no issue with train or nearby room noise. It wasn't as busy though. They have covid prepared continental breakfast. Everything was clean and wrapped up. They have cable for the tv. I called this hotel when we arrived in Merced, and asked if they had availability. They said they did, and quoted me a price. I drove over there and paid for the room. When I went to look at the room I was assigned, I found it completely unacceptable. It smelled of mold and sewage, was dirty, old, dark, and not particularly clean. I spent less than one minute in that room before immediately returning to the front desk and advising the clerk that I would not be staying in that hotel, and that I wanted my money back. She refused to do so. She went into a back room where she told me she was going to speak to a manager. She came out and said the manager was on the phone, but would call me later. Meanwhile, according to her, company policy stated they could not refund me, even though I never stayed in that room. The manager never called me back. As it so happened, we found a room at the Courtyard by Marriott next-door, which was several orders of magnitude better than the old, funky, Best Western Inn.p. The worst thing was they charged me $60 as a dog fee, which raised my total rate to over $200, whereas at Courtyard by Marriott I paid $159 with no extra fees. I feel the Best Western took advantage of my situation . I have stayed in numerous Best Westerns across the country for many years, and I have never encountered such a poor facility or such uncooperative management. I have filed a complaint with Best Western and we'll see what happens. DO NOT STAY HERE. read more

This is a roadside hotel so don't expect anything amazing, but for what it is, it's 5 stars all the way. One piece of advice: bring earplugs if you're a light sleeper. We arrived at the Best Western in Merced close to 1 am, exhausted from several hours' of travel and excited for a welcoming room with clean bedding. However, our hopes were quickly overturned. As we entered the room the overpowering scent of what smelled like last year's urine assaulted our noses. Exhausted and with nowhere else to go, we decided that our fate to sleep in a place reminiscent of a stairwell had been decided. This was just the beginning of our misadventure at the Best Western. The flimsy door was stubborn and wanted to stay open. So with great effort, we managed to close the flimsy door that would lock us into our motel room. Despite online advertising that this is a dog-friendly motel, the lady at the front desk told us that there was no dog area for our dog to do his business (This might explain the smell of urine in our room). We were not about to let our dog use the motel floor as a bathroom, so we found a small patch of grass outside for our dog to do his business. The scent of urine was so strong that it had permeated into the soap and hand towel. Clearly the soap and hand towel had been fearing for their lives so they emitted a noxious odor reminiscent of a cornered skunk that had just rolled in dog poop. My hands smelled badly after using the soap and towel. We climbed into bed and noticed that the sheets had brown stains (theories included feces or blood from bed bugs). However, we were too exhausted to care. There were no blackout blinds, so it was too bright in our room. Right as we were about to drop off to sleep, a train horn blared. We finally did get to sleep, but I had nightmares about bugs crawling all over me. Upon waking the next morning, I was first made aware of the smell of urine that my nose had not accustomed to overnight. I felt dirty from the bed sheets and the permeating old urine smell. However, remembering the soap, I dared not chance the shower for concern that I would feel dirtier leaving the shower than when I had entered. My mom went to get the free breakfast, but the sour cream was curdled and the milk was spoiled. Apparently diarrhea has been a problem at the Best Western Motel because a sign outside the pool had written that people with active diarrhea or diarrhea within the last 14 days may not be permitted to enter the pool. It seems that anyone staying here is at risk of leaving with free diarrhea in addition to the free breakfast. When the lady asked my mom how our stay was, my mom politely mentioned the urine smell, thinking that she might like to clean the room for future customers. However, the lady at the front desk responded, "Oh did you choose the handicapped room?" Two problems with this response. (1) The lady placed the blame on my mom for choosing that room (my mom wasn't told it was a handicapped room). And (2) The lady is making an incorrect assumption that all people with handicaps have incontinence issues. Although our experience at the Best Western in Merced was subpar, we now have a new experience to look back on, to share with people, and to maybe get a few laughs from. read more

Beware of highway noise, bar music from next door, and sounds from hotel neighbors. The tv and air conditioning couldn't tune out the combination of those 3. (I'm also a heavy sleeper) Apparently you can request for ear plugs but who sleeps with those if you have solid doors, windows and walls? Like a previous reviewer said, it was like if there were no walls present. Breakfast unfortunately didn't impress either even with the various selections. (Packaged bagels/muffins, eggs, pancakes/waffles, yogurt/cereal, some fruit, coffee/juice) Overall for the high price, can't say we were satisfied with our stay. The amazing staff and hotel experience. I was greeted with a great smile by friendly clerk and made us feel like home. We went there due that we had family funeral, the front desk male and lady was very compassionate towards needs, tell us how to get around town. The room was clean, beds where very comfortable, love the room due that had coffee marker, mini refrigerator, microwave, hairdryer, working tv. Restroom had soap, conditioner, enough towels. Outside beautiful pool , parking area was cleaned. They offer breakfast for guests, food was delicious and warm. Hotel offers ear plugs, due that there train tracks, make noise. Noise from the 99 all night long. The beds and pillows were hard and uncomfortable. So I wouldn't stay here again. But it gets 2 stars because the room was relatively clean and looked like it had been recently renovated. And I was able to book a pet-friendly room with 2 queen (albeit uncomfortable) beds for a decent rate. read more

TERRIBLE!!!! $84 for one night and you can hear the traffic from room.. sound like you're sitting on side of freeway. Have stayed in motel 6's before and didn't have this issue. Terrible location and insulation. Talked with owner on phone he said Tiffany "customer service manager" more like wanna win a debat would handle it on Monday. We checked in on Saturday at 8:00pm but didn't settle bc we unloaded our truck with valuable and prepared our kids for bed. By 10:00 when getting bed we realized there's no way we could sleep. Reached out to clerk he offered earbuds and to speak to manager. 20 min later haven't heard from him. Owner offered another room bc it has been remodeled was just as loud in there at 11:30pm Called Tiffany "the manager" and she said you checked in at 8:00 pm and checked out at midnight... explained to her it's due to unloading f150 or belongings and loading back up. And we didn't try to go to sleep until after our kids were settled in bed around 9:30-10:00pm She didn't apologize or try to problem solve.. all she said "I'm not going to refund you" Terrible customer service.. reached out to owner by calling his cell he ignored call. Best Western has been our hotel of choice. We booked online using Booking. Apparently it was a pet friendly room, I didn't notice. After being there for a couple hours, I noticed our feet were black. After cleaning my kids feet twice I went to the office. Showed them pictures. I was informed at this time that it was a pet friendly room. The front desk clerk told me that if I were to move rooms, I would lose my rate if I moved rooms. I chose not to because I didn't want to pay more. She did swiffer the room and it seemed ok. Everything else seemed clean. Later the GM came to the room and brought us water and 2 snack bite size chips. She did not once offer to move us rooms. I told her everything else seemed fine but the floor. She said they mopped and was sorry. We told her there was no way this room was cleaned properly with how black my kids feet were. The next morning, my kids socks were still very dirty. I then went to the office at check out and said more needed to be done.i was told that they would do nothing because I should have told the GM to move us. I was not willing to be pay more as I was told and she never offered. I was never looking for a free night, possibly a small discount. read more

Most accommodating hotel stay in a long time! Came for a month on business. They were so accommodating to my dog and I. I have a puppy and they were very understanding. They strategically placed me above the housekeeping quarters which i appreciated so I didn't disturb other guests. The room was very clean, organized, and functional. They have hard surface flooring so there is no odors at all left behind by guests. Their housekeeping is the best I've dealt with in awhile. I was able to pre schedule my service and communicated with them via notes. They were so awesome providing me extra linen since i am a travel nurse and work so many hours i am unable to get my room serviced as often as I would like and they understood that and left me extra supplies to get through. I am actively trying to get more contracts here because they are so pleasant that i really want to continue doing breed with them. The breakfast is actually really nice as well light healthy options available. This is a very pleasant best western and I would definitely stay here again. The room itself was OK. It was clean, the refrigerator & microwave looked new, and the linens/towels were of good quality. The sink/vanity was nice. Now for the problems- the tub/shower didn't drain properly so that meant standing in dirty water during a shower. The wall A/C unit was very loud even on its lowest setting. There was no climate control, just a unit with low/high settings. That's problematic considering it's hot during the day and cold at night. On the bright side, the noisy A/C helped drown out the sound of the freeway and whatever sketchy activities are occurring in the surrounding neighborhood. This is a VERY bad neighborhood. My wife and I did not feel safe. I'd recommend checking out crimemapping.com to see the sort of crimes that frequently occur around this motel. Actually we ended up not staying here, as our travel plans changed. Because a 3rd party had booked it, I called to ascertain whether we were in fact expected the next night & was told we had no reservation. Whew! But to be sure, I called again the next morning, and was told (by another receptionist) that yes, we were booked. I explained that yesterday we had called, they found a notation of same, and then said that almost certainly Hotels.com would charge us for the cancellation. Lo and behold, I received a text later that day from the receptionist (TJ?) who had said we had no reservation. He and Danielle, the receptionist who located it, contacted Hotels.com and immediately we received a confirmation from Hotels, indicating we would be repaid in full. Great that Hotels.com came through, but Super Thanks to T.J. and Danielle, who went waaaaay beyond the expected. We would choose to stay any time where they are employed ! read more

Bed Bugs! Major Infestation!!! Stay away from this place! Disgusting! We drove up from our home to visit UC Merced and we booked a room at the Best Western on 1033 Motel Drive in Merced. We booked two rooms, one for our three kids and one for my wife and I. This was the first night of our college tour for our son, who is a senior. The room wasn't fancy, but it was fine. The problem began when we woke up. My wife, who is allergic to bed bugs, woke up with bites on her arm and on her neck (see pictures attached). Now remember, this was the first night for us in a hotel after traveling up from our home - no bites before we checked in, and the morning after our first night, my wife and I feel like we've been attacked by bugs. We complain as we are checking out, and the person at the counter says that she will refer this to the manager who wasn't there at that moment. We went on our tour of Merced and then drove up to San Francisco to look at more colleges and to stay at an Airbnb. We never get a call back from a manager, but we do call again to complain. The manager isn't there and we don't get a call back until a few days later. The manager says that they inspected the room and found no bed bugs. So, end of story, I guess. I'm in the hotel business - my family actually owns a hotel. I know from experience that if you have a bed bug problem, a quick inspection will do nothing. You have to take the mattress out for full inspection and discard it if you see any trace of bed bugs or their residue. Best Western didn't make amends for a pretty horrible stay for us, and basically said there was no problem, so I think it's our responsibility to let everyone know that this place has a major bed bug infestation and the management doesn't seem to care about it. Maybe this is a smart way for them to do business, but sooner or later, things will catch up with them. read more

I'm stuck between 3 and 4 stars... This hotel is better than average however a few things made me score it lower. This hotel is clean. You walk in to check in, the front office is clean and professional looking. They have almost what appears to be a lounge area. Although small, it was nice. Check in was fast although if you're looking for discounts, ask: AAA and Military. Limited parking. The handicap parking is limited and very tight. It'll take multiple turns to be able to squeeze out of your stall. The room was a typical sized room. Very clean smelling as you walk in. It has a mini fridge, microwave and 2 cup coffee maker, blow dryer and ironing board. Shower was clean. Bathroom has a window you can't open. The toilet isn't your typical industrial oval size toilet. It was pretty small. Not to get graphic but it was like sitting on a coffee cup while doing your business. Two queen beds nicly prepared. Appears very clean. 5 pillows per bed with a weenie pillow too. Wow! The draw back is that the pillows are rock hard and solid. They're enough to cramp and kink your neck. Better to bring your own pillow from home. The room gets nice and dark for sleepy time. For my stay, people were loud, someone setting off fire crackers and fire works at the location. It was clearly an unwanted distraction. When i brought it up to the front office, they appeared surprised and even asked if they were gun shots....she said it as though it would be a normal thing which was a little disconcerning... but never apologized for the disturbance. At check out, it was quick and swift. I was very impressed with their breakfast items. From cold cereal, hot cereal, fruits, danish, drinks... even a waffle maker with fresh batter. The lobby is small and was full, very crowded. If you want a good selection, its best you wake early for breakfast. We stayed here last Weekend for 2 nights, Property is Well maintain and clean, the 2 days I was there I saw a lady cleaning the outside property, Room was Clean, There was a microwave, coffee maker and a fridge. One complain is that the Window inside the Bathroom could be a bit more secure. Breakfast is very standard, fruits, Cereal, Milk, Coffee, Yogurt, Microwave breakfast burritos and some pastries. You can definitively hear the Cars in the Freeway and the Train at night so if you're very sensitive about noise I don't recommend you stay here. Overall is an average Hotel, We return to Merced every year for the Kiki Raina Tahiti Fete Competition so I would stay here again. read more

I stayed at this hotel once before and when I booked it again I was notified when I went to pick up my room key that they had put me on a DO NOT rent to list ‍ no one could tell me the reason why. It was only me in the room the whole 3 nights I was there I don't smoke I didn't have ANY company I wasn't in and out all hours. Come to find out that I got put on the list for the individual(s) that rented the room right next to mine I DO NOT RECOMMEND STAYING AT THIS MOTEL if they can't figure out what room had the traffic or accuse another hotel guest for other people's traffic what else would they either accuse others of doing or try to charge other guest for rooms they don't have no connection to or with for damages NOT VERY PLEASED WITH THE MANGER THAT RUNS THIS MOTEL.... I do not know why there are so many negative reviews. This is a small hotel. We got exactly what we expected and honestly I was even a little more surprised by the room. The room was a nice size and clean. The complementary soaps were bath and body works products! The continental breakfast was decent sized and had a good amount of products to choose from. If I had one comment I would have liked a better quality of coffee. The coffee they have is pretty watered down and does not taste good. This hotel is next to the freeway but I already knew than and it didn't bother me anyways. I think some of the reviews on here are just picky. Overall great visit! read more

Where is the plus + ? It was advertised as a Best Western Plus on a 3rd party site and it seemed like lesser quality than a regular BW hotel. The only saving grace was the 2 young girls I interacted with at the front desk was nice and friendly. First, the rooms are outdoor facing and next to the highway. It's not a good sign when they have free earplugs right at the front desk. The room was very noisy from the fan too. Once I came in, I started to get very itchy, there were obvious signs the room wasn't very clean. There was 2 flies in the room and I found a strand of hair in the menu book. When I went to take a shower in the am, I stepped in and I can noticeably see my dark footprints from the floors. I was wearing shoes all day so it couldn't come from me. I won't be coming back. Solid roadside hotel. Good value, very nice staff, and the breakfast is serviceable, although I wouldn't exit the 99 just for a Best Western waffle. Mattresses could use replacement as they have a bit of a "taco" feel, but for one night in the Central Valley, you could do worse (because I have). read more

Not family friendly, feels very unsafe, terrible representation of Best Western. My family checked in on a Sunday evening after a long day of driving. We were planning to stay here in order to go to Yosemite the next day. As soon as we pulled in the parking lot, we knew it was far from decent. We decided to give it a chance and checked in - very nice woman working the front desk. The hotel parking lot was full of several young men going back and forth from their rooms to their cars. They seemed to be up to NO good. The only sign in the front office said "Stop Human Trafficking"- this was very alarming. The poor young woman working the front desk had to give the man checking in before us a security deposit in case of damage, stealing, or smoking in the rooms - she did not give us this charge when we checked in (?) - this indicated obvious bad previous experiences with this guest. As soon as we stepped foot in our room, we knew we had to leave. It reeked of cigarette smoke, we could not get the mini fridge to open, I could feel the mattress springs with my hand when I gently pressed on the bed. The windows from our room faced the sketchy parking lot. There was no way we were going to be able to sleep that night in this hotel. We told the young lady at the front desk that we could not stay there and went down the street to the Marriott. She remained professional the entire time. Best Western Management: PLEASE give this hotel in YOUR chain some ATTENTION for the REPUTATION OF BEST WESTERN. It needs upgrades throughout the hotel and way more safety measures. Please, for the safety of your employees who work there and your guests, this place NEEDS your attention. This has significantly dampened Best Western's reputation in our eyes. I advise all families to STAY AWAY until this hotel gets some help. read more
