The sun is almost always shining out in the middle of nowhere at Mercy hot springs. They have some construction projects going on as they make improvements to the lodging and pools. The owner told us that they were making the improvements slowly. They have some power issues. Off the grid is a good thing but it also leaves you at the mercy of the problems associated with having your own power source. When the power goes out the pumps that bring the hot water to the tubs stops pumping. The main problem is out of the owner's control, it has to do with the crowd. Accommodations At Mercy Hot Springs you can camp, you can stay in a rustic lodge or you can stay in a new Airstream. The camping looked to be crowded and not so hot. It's a dry and dusty environment and really there is nothing you can do about that. The rustic lodging has a shared bathroom and I believe one has a small kitchen. Not all that bad but if you like nice accommodation this place will fall far short of expectations. The trailers are the top end and also the new addition to the lodging. I hope they get more in the future. Each one has its fire pit as well as a deck with a grill outside. It is a trailer and the bathroom/shower is super tiny. The Hot Springs. There are tubs here that you fill up when you want to use them. They have 2 areas that are separated by the main buildings on the property. The lower area has a cold pool and a nice area to lounge as well as a shower and sauna. The upper area is clothing optional and is enclosed by fence on a wooden deck. The tubs in both areas are the same size, the lower tubs are in better condition. The water is great for soaking, when I was there it was pretty hot. I know in some of the reviews I read before going that people had encountered cool water. Very relaxing. Other People I think the biggest problem here is that people have no idea how to act. The hot pools are a quite are, while I was relaxing a group came and and started talking. This is not alright. A whisper is fine. Less like a bar, more like a library. Not sure why people don't understand the whole idea. It is posted, it should be respected. Don't get lost I also saw that some people had some issues getting to the place. I could see how it might be confusing as there is an exit on the freeway when coming from the north that would seem like the exit you want, Mercy Springs Road, it is not. You have to keep going until you hit the exit for Little Panoche Rd. From there is a relatively short drive out to the springs. Some Other Notes. Bring some water. You will find that there is basically no communication out here. It's a long way out to town so bring everything you need. read more

Twenty Minutes past, Split Pea Anderson's - headed south down the 5. (nice location) for a break depending on if you're headed to San Diego or LA. We have been to most of the hot springs in N. California and we have to say this place is hangs with our favorites. Jersey, at the front desk is helpful with whatever history you need of the Hotspring or what's been happening since our last visit in 2015. They have added a few new one bedroom accommodations since our last visit, and there close to finishing up a cozy place to grab a bite to eat for guest. Anyways, the pool is at 90 degrees in the winter and the tubs are divine and hot. We happened to catch a massive shooting star while in the tubs, kinda made my whole week.. The weather was lovely, rainy & cold which made for a beautiful green and snow capped mountain range in the morning. Over All - Best place to crash for a night or two.. off the 5 freeway from SF to SD.. Bring a book as your phones & laptops are off the grid, as much as you are.. read more

I first went to Mercey Hot Springs in 2004 - they had a big, deep hot tub in the middle of the deck where all the clawfoot tubs are organized in a circle. Sadly, a few years later when I returned - that was closed off due to fire department requirements for safety (apparently - a child could drown there - as if they couldn't in the bigger pool? ban children and keep my deep hot tub). That hot tub was really amazing and so enjoyable! The little tubs don't get or stay quite as hot as the big deep one - but it's nice in warmer weather. The little cottages are quite cute and some have kitchenettes. You can camp or cabin there - folks who run the place are nice. One time I went in a rented car - a convertible - and it was a full moon and all the stars were out - we cut the headlights and slowly creeped down the road, enjoying the silence and the ambient light (keeping alert for headlights or taillights around us - but of course there were none!). Nice spot - very special and relaxing. Not as much privacy for walking around naked as at other hot spring resorts, so bring a sarong or a robe! read more

I cannot say enough great things about this hidden gem. I was driving south from Redding to LA and needed a midpoint to spend the night. It's challenging to find a place off the I-5 and Mercey Hot Springs was worth the 12 mile ride off the highway. Amazing customer service, I called and Rick was extremely helpful and very friendly. The whole experience was amazing, I visited in late June and the climate was perfect. You can always adjust your bath tubs to your desire temperature. The facility felt like a private retreat/oases. Lots of unique birds, jackrabbits and owls. I can't wait to go back and stay a bit longer. Happy Travels! read more

I took my wife here for a day trip a while ago and forgot to review so I wanted to make sure I left a nice review for this place as they deserve it. We just came up for a day trip, it was originally going to be an overnight but I discovered I needed shoulder surgery a few weeks before the trip so I cancelled and we went later on after my surgery. The staff at check in was friendly and went over all the rules and guidelines with us and got us all set. We hit the clothing required tubs because we were feeling a bit modest and it was very nice. After soaking for a bit we came to the realization that one faucet is probably cold water so you can blend the water to your temperature liking but we weren't really sure, I wish someone had explained that to us at check-in but it was still nice either way. The pool wasn't overly crowded and we swam for a little bit and enjoyed that before walking the trail and looking around the area for a bit. It was quiet during the day while we were there and I enjoyed the peacefulness. We had a little bit of confusion at the front desk because I thought you had the option of half day or full day but the woman at the counter told us they were only doing half day, it worked out I don't think we would have stayed much longer than we did anyway. Overall the facilities are nice and the staff was pretty friendly I was just a little confused about the half day/full day thing and I wish the tubs had been explained to us a little better. I agree with all the reviews from those who have visited the springs for many years. It is true, it is no longer tranquil here and the price has become unreasonably high for the quality of the services and amenities provided. For this gem in the middle of nowhere, the new young owner could've come up with some special plan , and not just raise prices and put up a new gate with strict rules! He lost all the clients who loved this place, and I very much doubt that he will attract many new . For such prices we have Napa and Calistoga with excellent service and amazing restaurants. Sad as it is, but this place will have to say goodbye. I will never come back again. read more

This place is amazing. Just rustic enough that it doesn't feel like a bougie resort, but nice enough that it feels like a treat to yourself. My Wife and I have been coming here consistently for a few years and all the amenities have only been improving. It's marketed as a tranquil and relaxing experience and you can tell the staff works quite hard to maintain that vibe. The only time I've ever seen staff have to engage with guest is when people get inconsiderably loud(keep in mind, quiet, tranquil experience is the goal), or when people unfortunately bring children here and fail to realize no matter how much quiet "shhhhshing" you do, children are still children and will be loud. With that being said, if you're looking for a beautiful destination where you can rest in some relaxing natural hot springs, see some very cute wildlife, explore an awesome property, and do some amazing stargazing, then I highly recommend this place... just do all the other guests a favor. leave the kids and the guitar at home. read more

Wonderful place for birders - camped here Apr 13-15 and saw Great Horned Owls, Bullock's Orioles, owlets, doves, sparrows, finches, blackbirds, and more. You hear birds all day long (and the hooting of the owls at night). This is NOT a fantastic place to bring your kids 5-18, this is NOT a place to party late, with music and alcohol - the quiet hours are strictly enforced. There's no cell service (at least if you are on AT&T), minimal WiFi, no restaurants. You have to bring your own food and your own drinkable water (there is food and water available at the MHS reception desk should you need any.) But it is an incredible place to retreat from the chaos of the Bay Area, the incessant pings of Slack and email and text from people who want something from you, the gridlock, the traffic, the noise. Mercey Hot Springs is an oasis in the middle of badlands rolling hills, a retreat filled with green, birdsong, and soaking tubs that are perfect for a long quiet read as the stress melts away. The sauna, the warm pool, the tub, light walks in the surrounding hills, camping in the trees surrounded by such a diversity of birdsong - it couldn't have been a better retreat. Bring food, water, a swimsuit and towel, and a big stack of books, you know, the kind on paper. You don't want the Kindle (or any other device) falling into the tub. Bonus #1 : Kenda (sp?) at the desk is awesome - she pointed out the owlets and their parents and we talked a lot about the birds. Very nice. Bonus #2 : Everything was very clean and very well maintained. Bonus #3 : People were nice and it was not a pickup scene (unlike some other hot springs...) Bonus #4 : There are swimsuit-required and swimsuit-optional areas, well separated, so you can be comfortable. Mercey hot spring was a real treat. The water is warm, and the weather is perfect right now on Easter weekend. The water has a slight sulfur smell. The facilities are clean and close by. There are 4 standard outlets in the small cabin; I believe are 10 x 10 feet or so. It only fits one queen bed and has two night stands, and two lamps with a petite bench next to the door. I was surprised there was enough room for heavy packers. There are 3 twin hooks on the back of the door added more storage. We brought a cooler and stored it on the porch. Our 20 lb ice stayed cool and the ice did not melt too much for an entire day and one night stay. The bathrooms are close by; with two full baths in a separate cabin in the middle of several cabins. The additional full baths are in the pool area. In retrospect, should have brought our own electric kettle for tea and coffee; because although the registration office has tea and coffee; you are only allowed once (they supply you with a ticket), and they aren't open until 9:30 am and close at 8 pm. If you want a hot drink outside those hours...you'll have to wait. We brought a small table and an induction electric plate to cook hot pot. I should've prepared everything and ready to cook prior to the trip...as the only sink is in the shared full bathroom. There is wifi available, which is very nice. There is an easy trail, very nice walk to a bench on top of the hill; can listen to the wind and birds. Very peaceful. The other way is to a labyrinth, which is also very nice and playful. People build things with bricks lying around; it's very cute. The registration office has a few travel amenities, instant foods, chips, drinks, ice cream, ice and their Mercey hot spring mug for purchase. There are RVs for rent too, and picnic areas with bbq pits in the pine groves close to the parking at the entrance. The tubs by the pool are nice, but they fill slow; swimsuit mandatory. The hot tubs fill a lot quicker, but that area is clothing optional. You can see the stars on a clear night. 45 minute limit per soak. But all well worth it. I had a lovely time. I've been going to Mercy for years. I felt the price was reasonable for what you get - until now. We showed up late afternoon on Veteran's Day (Monday) with a couple hours of daylight left and were told we would be charged the weekend price because it was a holiday- $55 each ($45 each on a weekday). We were just passing through in our camper van and really only wanted a place to sleep but we had to pay a price that included the use of the pool and hot tubs. The price had gone up substantially from when we had visited last year. I suspect they jacked up their rates because of the nearby solar project- workers stay at Mercy and corporate pays the tab? The price, combined with an unfriendly host, made us keep moving down the road. If allWe'll buy a new pair of shoes with the money we saved :) Update: be sure and check their cancellation policy. You probably won't be able to understand most of it, but I did understand the "NO refunds if canceled 3 weeks prior...". Are you kidding me? "CANCELLATION POLICY: 100% of the deposit amount less $100 or 10% of the entire reservation (which ever is more) if the reservation is canceled 6-weeks prior to the 1st day of the reservation. 50% of the deposit amount less $50 or 5% of the entire reservation (which ever is more) if the reservation is canceled 3-weeks prior to the 1st day of the reservation. I feel like this is the perfect place to visit and enjoy nature. It's only 2 1/2 from the Bay Area and it offers a really nice rustic atmosphere. You can pay $50 for the day or $40 for 4 hours and enjoy all the amenities. There is also a bath house for $20 but that in doors. My friend and I were driving from berkely here and we thought the stuff was nice and helpful. Also the personal runs are great. It's clean which I really appreciated. Give it a try. After an intense LA weekend: mad shopping, IPL photofacial and Galaxy laser, family dinner that turned into an all-nighter, best friend's 30th at the new Le Prive, we were feeling WRECKED. Driving up the 5 north, we saw a sign for hot springs and without more than an "agreed" nod to each other we headed west for 13 miles. Fast forward past payment ($20 for 4 hours), undress ($2 towel rental), hot-shock (108deg/F water), and we found ourselves sitting in adjacent tubs staring at the desert sky while it turned blue to purple to pink to darkness. It was quiet and we took deep breaths, shedding all the stress of too many people and too much alcohol. read more

OMG loved loved loved this Place. I can not stress enough. In the middle of nowhere, off the grid and only 2 1/2 hrs from home through the backroads of Hollister(Panache rd/ Hwy 25). No cell coverage, no internet either unless you get a code from the office. You do not need it. We came up for the day, but I wish we stayed the night. We will next time as its only $10 more per person to tent camp. Loved the peacefulness and the grounds. The tubs are great and deep. We came by on Saturday,March 14, and it was at least 80 degrees! Awesome weather. Desert/farm land setting. The owner, Larry, I believe,that was his name, was very friendly, we chatted with him for awhile about the area. He has been doing alot of work to the place over the years, and it shows. He has cabins and a new home to rent now too. Plus spaces for rvs/trailers too. They will be working on the old White house for a restaurant in the near future, which would be a great addition to the place. We used the pool, tubs and sauna. and the showers- the only draw back with the showers, is all the spring mineral water going through so you don't get all the minerals off of you. Its not reg water. Im not sure how the cabins are or the bathhouse but the pool shower was like that. That was about it.I noticed they have wheelchair accessablity as well to the tubs and pool area. They offer massage and yoga classes too. I felt great after here. We so will be back again!!!! Make sure you are gased up and bring drinking water. My five star rating is based on value compared to other hot springs we have experienced AND THE FACT THAT THIS IS A UNIQUE OFF-GRID EXPERIENCE! Larry took us on a tour of his solar system which is quite impressive, to us, as we have lived off-grid on the BAJA for 23 years and also off grid in the mountains for 15 years. The facility is very old and a wonderful work in progress. It is an old hot springs resort, but while it is old, it is also very obvious that everything is being upgraded as time progresses. We enjoyed the clothing optional tubs near the only cabin with a kitchen (which we loved!). The real marvel is that Larry has harnessed the power of the SUN to provide power at a COMMERCIAL RESORT! We GET IT...but most people have no idea what a uniquely difficult thing this is to accomplish! I hope future visitors will ask more questions and try to learn how wonderful it is to receive power from the SUN! I wish Larry would have some signs posted to explain how the system works and provide a walking map to point to all that is required so people could more fully understand what a unique experience they are having in addition to enjoying the hot springs relaxation. IF PEOPLE UNDERSTOOD MORE ABOUT SOLAR POWER THEY MIGHT APPRECIATE THE NECESSARY REQUESTS TO CONSERVE ENERGY! We are so impressed! We used to love this place. I have spent several birthdays etc. both in the cabins & tent camping here. It was a peaceful retreat, closer to us than Orr Hot Springs or Sierra, & less fancy than Wilbur. We used to enjoy MHS very much. We still could if the Management made some changes regarding kids' unruly & disruptive behavior. Unfortunately, they advertise "Experience Tranquility" & because the staff are either unwilling or unable to enforce the quiet rules around the general tubs & outdoor pool, when kids are there it's not at all peaceful. The last time we were there was Thanksgiving (not our first one there), & it was ridiculous. Kids were noisy, breaking every guideline the management advertises on their website--running around the spa area, riding bikes through other people's campsites, jumping, shouting & cannon-balling in the pool. And parents ignoring their kids! That behavior would not be tolerated at Orr, Wilbur Hot Springs or Sierra Hot Springs. This experience was more like the pool at Circus Circus in Reno than a nature retreat. To management's credit, they gave us a refund, & told us that they were going to revise their policies. I think short of banning kids, they could have restricted pool hours which would help, a special kids' area for them to play & actual enforcement when people break the rules. As of February 2018, no changes have been made, & the manager emailed me recently to say that actually no changes were going to be made after all. Their website still depicts a place with adults relaxing in tubs, massage, people doing yoga (no yoga or massage actually is available there.) There are no photos of kids at all. This to me is false advertising--very misleading. It is a beautiful place & it used to be my favorite. I am sure will return, but never on a holiday weekend. My advice is if you do want to "Experience Tranquility" avoid weekends & peak seasons, & go during the weekdays, because the "Guidelines" as advertised on their website are meaningless. read more

The perfect destination for an overnighter bicycle ride out of Hollister. We rode our tandem in about 4 hours, long but mellow climb through I N C R E D I B L E countryside (Springtime). We stayed in one of the cabins and really enjoyed what they've done so far to restore and IMPROVE. But BRING YOUR OWN WATER TO DRINK!!! We had a great time and the new tubs were to die for (deep, long, easy to change from hot to cool). The tile work in the old bath house was amazing. The new owners are creating a special place that is so quiet and remote feeling that we instantly slowed down our minds and just melted into the bed at the end of the evening. If you like hot mineral soaks and peaceful surroundings, this is the place for you!. They are taking all types of precautions due to COVID 19. In two different areas there are tubs you can fill with hot and cold mineral water for a wonderful, relaxing soak at your personally perfect temperature. The stars at night are awesome; very little ground-light. Bring drinking water and any food you might want while there. A flashlight is handy too. Oh, and there is wi-fi, but we had no cell service (Verizon on iphones). I don't know if that is true for all carriers. This year we rented the cabin with a kitchen since we were there for 2 nights. It was very clean and peaceful. Owner/staff (sorry I didn't ask!) was SO VERY HELPFUL. Can't say enough nice things! When we got in the car to leave, it wouldn't start. It's a hybrid so not as easy to troubleshoot as a regular car. Tried everything in the owner's manual to no avail. Ended up calling AAA for a tow, but that was going to take an hour or so for tow truck to get there. The gentleman from the office came up to the cabin to see if we had any luck getting the beast started. He had looked up some information on the internet, we tried it (because what did we have to lose, it already wasn't working) and viola` the car started right up. I can't tell you how happy we were to be able to motor out under our own power and not have to get the car towed. Thank you again! You guys were wonderful! read more

This was a surprise trip planned by my husband and I loved it! I needed a getaway and this was the reclusive little resort we were craving...no phone service, no internet, no tv! The drive from the Bay Area this time of year was beautiful and pulling into the little oasis promised an adventure. Jersey greeted us and checked us in inside the oldest building on the property - the little mission style church reception house. It lived up to its "rustic" description but the little houses on the property are cozy and super clean! After unpacking and hiking up the hill to take in the view of the hills and little white cottontail bunnies running around, we headed for a soak in the 80 degree pool and side-by-side soaking tubs. My husband settled into one of the tubs and would not get out until his fingers were beyond prunes. The sulphur smells were minimal and I'm sure we were cured of all kinds of disease and illness :) Even so, it just felt fantastically relaxing soaking and watching the group of owls flying around the trees overhead. When you visit, make sure you pack your own food and water (we stopped at The Grove in Hollister and picked up a wood-fired pizza, salads, and dessert) as they do not have a restaurant at the resort just yet. Spend some time in the cozy Phoenix community room with a book next to the potbellied stove (notice the fine workmanship of the local rock collection backing and the reclaimed redwood mantel, built by Larry from Alaska, behind the stove) and just plain relax, walk, hike, take pictures, soak, swim, and enjoy the slower pace. Great place! Has campsites and cabins. The cabins range from a small one room, to having a kitchenette and A/C. Bathrooms/showers are common. No cell reception, but there is WiFi. Has a common use BBQ and rec room, chairs throughout, and a general sense of quiet. Even in the middle of the day, it felt calm and relaxing. A bit of a drive from the bay area, but not too much. Close enough for a weekend, far enough to get away. The office has water, ice, snacks and soft drinks. So, even if you forget something, you'll survive! A great place to gather yourself, relax, and recharge. read more

I was half-tempted to not leave a review, because I do not want to take the chance that I'll ever see a crowd at this place. It's too quiet, and too special, and it would be devastating to see it get overrun with the noisy, the inconsiderate, the people taking their party with them, playing music out of their cars or their little sound systems when you just want to be in nature - I notice that's assumed to be okay more and more in our wilder areas. I recently experienced this on Leigh Lake in the Tetons, FCOL. Not everyone on the lake wants to listen to your crap new country at 80 dB, have some awareness of other people, you nitwits! But I digress... We got out of the car and noticed right away that something was missing: the constant, low drone of human activity, which is of course inescapable in the Bay Area, and even off the beaten track, any more. Even in excellent parks and campsites in the redwoods you can hear a distant roar of highway traffic. Come here to experience real quiet. This place is sunk into a valley with fuzzy rolling hills surrounding it, and after that, a whole lot of nothing -- well-insulated. The stillness so prevalent that it made us talk in whispers. Enchanting. At check in, we were instructed to leave the car in a lot by the entrance, but they will let you drive up to the cabin and unload first. Fine with me - driving a car through the grounds seemed like a little bit of an intrusion on the quiet. We made the short walk back to the car when we loaded out the next day instead of pulling up. This place is not for everyone. There are rules. No music or alcohol by the pool. The pool itself closes at 8p, but the dozen or so tubs by the pool and the other cluster of tubs in back of the cabins (clothing optional) are open all night. You're there to meditate, talk low with your partner, reflect. Sunbathe. Read books in the tub :) The pool was a pleasantly warm temperature in the chilly night. Salt is a prevalent mineral, but not intense enough to prevent you from opening your eyes underwater. It's a soothing mineral bath, not sulfur. The tubs are as hot as you want them to be. Cabins are basic and cozy. BYO food and water (go with the Burning Man standard of 2 gallons per person per day, as soaking makes you sweat). There are some recent animal arrivals: Great Horned Owls! They were talking to each other throughout the night. It's an oasis for birds. Jackrabbits darting in and out of scrub all over the hillsides. There are about a million stars. However, I also want to give credit where due and let small places like this know that they are amazing (and also hopefully fuel a revenue fire to keep them open forever). The place is rustic. If you are afraid of bugs, or would dare leave a less than 5 star review just because you ran across some bugs... don't come here. You are in the middle of relatively nowhere, expect some wildlife. Not everything gets fumigated just for your very special little self...there is a fragile ecosystem at work here, and I appreciate this place doing what it can to keep that intact. The people are so nice, the rules are reasonable and well thought out--quiet time in nature is so valuable, enjoy it. The stars are like you will never see in the city, any city. The owls are very present and also entertaining. The pool is warm and clean, the sauna is hot and wonderful, the tubs are old (but that is a good thing). This is a gem in the middle of nowhere, off the highway that everyone tries to just get through (the 5). I have no complaints. I will be back. There are a few bathrooms where bathers can change and shower. $40 will buy you 4 hours, with full access to the clothing required tubs, clothing optional tubs, and heated pool. $20 will buy you 1 full hour in a tub in a private room. The water is very warm when it comes out the hot faucet and takes about 10 minutes to fill, which by that time has cooled down a degree, and just not hot enough to soothe a person's aching muscles. From my experiences I'd say the maximum temperature was 102. I have arthritis. My experience at Mercey Hot Springs was therefore more of a novelty and not worth returning to at any price, as long as I have to constantly fill and refill the tub. The swimming pool might be nice as long as you're spending the night. Who wants to drive 13 miles off I-5 just to go swimming in a luke warm pool or busy themselves with a WARM tub and be on a time-clock? read more

We are over the moon about discovering Mercey. First off, it's stunning. We camped in our tent and the site was lush, comfortable, and right beside the pool. There was wildlife everywhere!! So many breeds of birds, dragonflies, cotton tails, jack rabbits... It's definitely an oasis. The staff was welcoming, personable, and friendly. Also, I brought my toddler with me. I'd been looking forward to trying these natural hot springs for years. I knew that Mercey Hot Springs had been mounting a renovation over the last few years and I guess, is still undergoing some renovations. I was so pleased to see that the place looked like it probably did 100 years ago with the addition of new, green, solar panel powered buildings. I was also suprised how few the facilities were -- imagining that the RV & camping spaces must fill up in good weather as well as the multiple cabin rentals, that the 2 bathroom facilitites seemed limited to me. But hey, I don't know, it was fine for the amount of people that were there on a very cool and windy day in February. The water was just tremendous and great. The private, original construction and updated tubs were awesome. We met some really nice locals and some people new to the place such as ourselves. The pool was big, and except for the fact that some really randy bees were too attracted to the water and one stung me, very clean. The facilities are very clean and newish. We didn't stay over, so cannot comment on the cabins. There were snacks and drinks for sale even though I was told that none were to be had. There is no real "food" available yet for sale, altho future renovations indicate that there were be some. INFO for SPA Purists: pets/kids/noise allowed. What a wonderful hidden gem. We stayed one night in cabin #10 and it was perfect. Nice private deck and close to the bathrooms and shower. Everything about this place was great. Even the husband and wife that manage the place were super friendly and very helpful. We will be back for sure. We loved all the tubs but I will have to say my favorite was the clothing optional. This place was highly recommended by a friend. I made my reservation about 3 Months ago for mid May. I had plans to be go by myself and it was my first time. I read the place was remote, no cell phones and I still felt brave to drive alone. As the weather changed to rain and thunderstorms 3 days before my trip, I contacted the resort to see if I could change the date as I did not feel safe going alone. They told me NO, I even offered to pay for a fee to change the date in addition to the $250.00 I had already paid for one night. I am very aware of the cancellation policies, however, situations change as I would have never imagined the weather would be so bad during May/June in California and I did not feel safe going alone as if something would have happened on the trip, I would be stranded. I'm disappointed. Be aware this place is all about the money. I do not usually write reviews, however I thought hard about this and decided to share my experience as I felt strong about this one. We finally took the chance to venture away from Highway 5 for more than a driving break. What a wonderful rewarding, surprise. Rolling hills, historic farms, the sound of birds--including owls. Then a quiet soak in individual tubs with your own set of hot and cold controls. By the time we got back to the highway after a nights rest and soak, we were completely refreshed. Poorly maintained, poorly planned out and overpriced. Sauna didn't work, hot tubs were not hot, showers were cold, 3 out of the 3 staff we met were rude and controlling and had a strange sense of entitlement as if it were a privilege for me to pay $220 for a 24 hr parking spot. As soon as we arrived to check in, the staff had complaints. I certainly was not treated like a guest. Owners: People don't come to a hot springs to spend the day studying a list of rules and guidelines, they come to relax and be free. If they are paying, they expect the basics to work; hot water, doors and locks and showers and plumbing. Don't shine a lite in my face while I'm relaxing in a tub to tell me my tub is overflowing onto the deck. The drain system is the problem, not the paying customer. Controlling a customers behavior is a fool's battle and will leave everyone frustrated. Adapting your business and facilities to accommodate your customers inexperience, would leave both you and your guest happier. read more

Does anyone know what these cockroach/ beetle looking insects are? Whatever they were, they were fucking everywhere. One fell from the fan when we were checking into our campsite, setting up our tent we were bombarded by the sudden swarm that comes at dusk, they were swimming in the pool with us, around the pool area every step was a crunch because they were literately, fucking everywhere. We thought the morning light would wipe out these pests, but as we lifted up our tent we found out we slept on 500 + of these bugs. There was a nice cat there, and the maintenance guy had a little scruffy dog. The tubs were very refreshing in the morning and the pool was amazingly warm. It's a nice place, if it wasn't for the bugs. I would say not to go during the rainy season, and to please not go to the pool at night. read more

The aggressive bragging about plumbing upgrades were strange to endure after finding that several taps would produce no water after being turned on. The fact that, although the water was run for over thirty minutes, it would not exceed body temperature was even more unpleasant. Mercey Hot Springs aka the Bunny Ranch (not like the one in Vegas) is a fabulous and interesting little oasis... my gentleman friend and I took the day off to acknowledge our birthdays, I'd say celebrate but we didn't, we just relaxed at Mercey. It was quite lovely and quite quiet on the grounds especially since it was a Tuesday. We thought we were the only people here until we saw a young couple who had camped the night before and then a van full of older folk with a Ukranian accent... I doubt it was Russian since they spoke with a less harsh accent. What an interesting group. I caught some rays, I read up on Bon Apetite and a few other magazines food related of course (I don't have time for hollywood bs) while my gentleman friend sat in the shade swatting flies with his shirt and reading "Fire Monks" the story about the monks at Tassajara who stayed to fight off the big fire a few years back. We dived in the pool head first when it got too hot... it wasn't that bad perhaps mid 80's... Not your average hot spring or so I thought, with individual tubs that you have to fill up on your own which was kind neat. Then another section up by the cute cabins which had a similar scene "fill your own tub" but this time clothing optional. Very nice. Next time we plan to bring friends and prep to stay the night in one of the 5 camping spots. They are RV friendly and there are picnic tables scattered around the grounds so bring a lunch or some snacks. You can purchase cold drinks, ice cream bars and a few Costco (Kirkland Signature) snack in the little "chapel" where you register when you arrive but other than that there is nothing in a 20+ mile radius (or so it felt). The only qualms that we had is that we wished the water could get hotter and we also hoped for a place to go for a cold plunge. We look forward to visiting again soon. Very cool vintage looking place to chillax. Saying that there are definitely some new developments going on and the pool area looks really new. I guess they will be opening a little market and or cafe in the near future which would be really sweet. Can't wait to check it out when it is all done! Why Bunny Ranch? Because if you walk toward the "nude optional" baths you will see several little bunnies hopping around nearly everywhere! read more
