Our family (siblings, cousins, grandparents, kids, grandkids) took over the Grogan House, Grogan Mini Suites, Terrace Bedrooms and the Guest Cottage for an amazing Thanksgiving at Paicines Ranch. All the lodging was wonderful - lots of options for each group. The Grogan House provided our general gathering area with lots of room to hang out, with the front porch being a favorite spot. The kitchen and butler pantry made all the cooking and prepping easy. The kitchen is well stocked with pots, pans, bowls, plates, glasses, silverware, etc. The dining room held all 37 of us comfortably. Turkeys were smoked on an outdoor side deck where we enjoyed appetizers and wine tasting. We had beautiful weather so lots of walks around the property. Kids loved seeing the sheep. Beautiful ranch and responsibly raised animals for meat. Love ordering meats from here knowing it's not a factory farm. If you're looking for ethically raised meats, get it from here. It's worth the drive. My cousin got married here so of course I had to order some lamb and beef. The venue is gorgeous and perfect for overnights. Family rented the cabins and detached 4 bedroom house. The bride and groom + their parents rented the historic home which was only a few footsteps from the ceremony and receipt on area. read more

The vibe is best place to stay in Paicines! Mary is sooo fab! Super helpful! Super accommodating! We stayed at the Pinnacles House. It is my dream home away from home! I love the peace & quiet out here! Check in is so simple. Check out a breeze! And they have meats that are available for purchase! The Pinnacles House is immaculate. The kitchen is fully equiped. We were there to see the Milky Way with the naked eye before we died so here we were. Haha! The Pinnacles National Park is just a short drive away and this was the best place to be Under The Milky Way. (Cue in the haunting song by The Church) Sometimes when this place gets kinda empty The sound of their breath fades with the light I think about the loveless fascination Under the Milky Way tonight The kitchen is just superb! And the home cooked dinner by the funny, titillating, kind but arrogant narcissist was fab! Ahem. He does know how to cook a few things. And the best part was everyone pitched in. The perfect pancake breakfast was prepared by one of the most accomplished women I know. And yes, it was splendiferous! Every bit was delish! And these wonderful meals were made possible because of the great kitchen at the Pinnacles House! The bedrooms were fantastic! Everyone slept well, just like cute little kittens. The bathrooms were super fab and clean! (But remember to press that tiny red button to adjust the temp in the shower of the master bath.) Haha! My gosh, if it wasn't such a long drive to work, I'd try to buy this place! The greatest memories over home cooked meals with deep conversations while telling stories as well as time under the dark midnight sky lit with countless beautiful daymakers was just splendiferous. What a lovely Ranch. Came here to get some farm fresh meat and got so much more. The girl who works in the office was caring for new baby lambs and we got to hold them. They were adorable. Also, they will be the farm pets btw :) We got a sampler pack of the ground meat for a reasonable price. You order online and pick it up because they don't have a store front but it was fast and easy. We learned a little about the Ranch and it was a fun little pit stop. read more

I typically don't leave reviews but I had a horrible experience with the host/organizer. A day that was supposed to be memorable for me, as it was my surprise engagement turned into chaos. The host was rude to everyone, she spilled our food. Placed her hands inside our food and was yelling at everyone. We had no choice but to pack our stuff and leave. I have never experienced anything like it. I left sad and disappointed because a memorable day for me got ruined because of the actions of this person. read more

I hope this review does not get buried with the rest of the reviews and is actually considered by management. What was supposed to be a special day for my sister-in-law turned into a nightmare for my family. The host (will not be named), was very welcoming and attentive at first. I even exchanged my number in hopes of having my wedding at this location due to its natural beauty. As time went on and more guests began to arrive, I noticed the host become a little agitated. We were in the kitchen getting hot chocolate when I noticed the host murmuring under her breath and angrily washing something on the stove. She began making rude comments and started to make us feel uncomfortable. After some rude comments and a few bad words here and there, she kicked us out of the kitchen and said we had "too much food." I went outside and heard more commotion coming from the kitchen. I went inside to make sure my family was okay because at this point, her behavior was unpredictable and safety was our number 1 priority. That is when I saw her yell at one of the other guests and told her to speak "English." She then began throwing the food, even grabbing it with her hands. At this point we knew it was time to leave. We packed everything and left. She apologized but did not sound sincere. I even told her that it was a shame because this natural beauty was ruined by a nasty attitude. Management, please take this seriously and do not sweep it under the rug. Take action and do something about this worker. Something tells us that this is not her first rodeo and this is not the first time she behaves this way. This needs to be taken seriously for the safety of future guests. Her behavior was erratic and at times we did not feel safe. It is unfortunate because we see so many great reviews for this place and it was ruined by one person. It takes one bad apple to ruin the garden, thank you for your time. read more

We just attended a weekend wedding here. Definitely thought the incredible views of the hills would be the best attraction until we ate the food. Five star restaurant quality, chef Carlos accommodated both vegans and meat eaters. Three items stand out in memory: the most delectable leg of lamb I've ever eaten ( dinner), oatmeal raisin cookies from heaven (pastry chef onsite) and carrot chorizo tacos (lunch). Everything was delightful, wait staff, barn decorated with crystal chandeliers and white furniture, lambs in the distance. If you're looking for a country destination wedding with rooms for 80, this is it. read more

We are here for a family wedding and would give the cottages on site only a two star rating. Rustic is fine, but no AC, soiled spotted carpets, cobwebs and bathroom cabinets that are filthy make it hard to feel comfy cozy. Bedslinens and towels are ok, but the furniture and sparce art is mismatched garage sale quality (see photos). Grounds are very ranch-rustic....not many flowers and lots of rust and rotting wood, Rotted fences and gates...not much care taken to keep it up, the only animal we have seen here is a small dog and a few shorn sheep out by the highway which may or may not belong here?? All windows must be opened at night to cool down with fans (which thankfully are supplied). Our cottage has a screen door with no handle on inside so unless you kick it closed from outside and crawl back in through a window it's of no use. Both rooms in the Rose cottage have no closets!! The over the door hooks don't go far...how about rows of peg hooks and some hangers....maybe even a large armoire "closet"? Just a thought. The barn where weddings take place is also very rustic and basic, raw plywood walls, (why not a little shiplap or bar wood), dirty concrete floors and oh....watch out for the bats! Outside where the ceremony takes place is on a very uneven hillside with NO shade! It also faces into the late afternoon sun instead of the stunning oaks studded hills in the distance. Nice venue that could be SO much nicer with a good maintenance crew and decorator!!!!! read more

I really wanted to like this beef, but it was HORRIBLE. I ordered about a quarter from them and had it delivered and absolutely not one single piece was good. Incredibly tough and unbelievably flavorless. Worst meat I have ever eaten in my whole life. It's not rotten or anything, just really bad texture and really bad flavor. Or rather, lack of flavor. I've been working my way through the quarter over the past year and a half because I can't stand to throw it away, but my family always complains when I serve it. Usually we end up giving it to the dog. You know it's bad when you serve a Petite Tender *stewed* to try to soften it up and it's still inedible. Today I am cleaning out the freezer and I'm down to 3-4 Flatiron Steaks and a few Petite Tenders and I just can't face it. I'm giving them away on Craigslist. It has nothing to do with being grass-fed, I have bought large quantities of grass-fed beef from other ranches and been really pleased with the quality. I tried Paicines Ranch because they are really close to me and I figured they would be good. What a mistake. What an expensive mistake! read more

Several years ago, after reading about factory farmed food and watching the movie Food Inc, I decided to switch to organic fruits & vegetables & grass fed beef. I get my hamburger (and occasionally steaks) from Paicines Ranch in Hollister. I've become a protein junkie and love grass-fed beef. My favorites from Paicines Ranch are ground beef; chipotle-cheddar sausage; and the filet migons. Unfortunately, it is a small operation and cuts do get sold out - Flea Street Cafe in Menlo Park recently bought all of their short ribs and filets so I was out of luck! Grass-fed beef is leaner and cooks more quickly than other beef, so you do have to be careful. I always put just a touch of olive oil on my steaks before I cook them. read more

I order beef regularly from Paicines Ranch through a food co-op (Eating With the Seasons http://www.eatwiththeseasons.com). The beef is great, healthy, and tasty. Sometimes, the steaks can be tough, but I've learned to just pound them first, use some olive oil, and no problems. The sausages are perfect, and the ground beef makes the best meatloaf.
