John has done a ton of work on my house over the last year and a half. He will do a complete job or part of it depending on what you want without pressuring you into stuff you don't need. For example, my hubby tried to install a ceiling fan (which he has done multiple times previously), but the way our attic was designed made it difficult to get to the room where we wanted the ceiling fan. My hubs ended up putting his steel-toed boot through the ceiling. John came out, did the electrical and other set-up in the ceiling and turned the hole into the ceiling into a better attic access than what the house originally had (at my request). My hubs then attached the ceiling fan in the room and finished the electrical himself. John has also helped us with running electrical for installation of new recessed lighting, surround sound, and tv (with cables in the wall). He also helped my husband with retexturing our living room ceiling and it looks wonderful! He also came out with his brother to install new baseboards on a time crunch! He also built a wall and installed a door when the master bath didn't have one at all. All of the work is professional and looks awesome! He matched the wall to the texture on the surrounding walls perfectly! He even helped install a new bathtub upstairs for us! He is also very reasonably priced and will tell you if it is more worth your time and money to try a different route. He is a drywall and texture expert so if you need any of that kind of work done, don't look anywhere else! First had John out to replace drywall from a busted water heater. He was prompt and did a great job. Removed and reinstalled a toilet and the drywall texture was perfect. Very fair pricing. Wished we had called him from the start. Called him back for several other projects both large and small. Had to workout timing because he sometimes has multiple jobs going and does his best to accommodate. Could've communicated better but does good work. It can be difficult to find reliable contractors who are willing to do the smaller jobs but John is always willing, if he has time, and honest. There is not enough space to talk about how completely amazing john is... He started out as a subcontractor we hired to rebuild a fireplace in our home and has become part of the family! We met John in about 2006 when he installed our fireplace. Over the next few years we stayed in contact and he completed some odds n end jobs at the house. In 2008, I came home from the hospital from having a baby and we had a leak from the upstairs bath to the down stairs that caused part of the ceiling to collapse. We called John who came right away and made everything perfect!!!! A few months later we decided that we would need a space for our brand new baby to play as he grew... so John was back out and built us a beautiful courtyard! It turned out amazing!!! Again, over the course of the next few years more additional small projects to complete... Changing out kitchen faucets, electoral work, you know how it goes when you purchase an older home..... Then, in 2012, a fire at the house. Not knowing how any of this works when you are dealing with insurance companies our house sat for 4 1/2 months while the contractor that was sent out by the insurance company started and completed less than sub-par work, and in addition, this company had all of the contents to our home ( everything we owned). After 4 1/2 months they failed their first city inspection and the poor workmanship was visible!!! After calling my insurance company in tears they said to me, "you know in California we cannot mandate who you hire to fix your home". So I immediately fired their contractor and called John! John was there for us again, got us back home in 6 1/2 weeks, passed his city inspections with flying colors, and our home turned out beautiful!!!!!!! We chose to hire John because he is local, is both a certified plumber and electrician, and did most of the work himself which kept his labor costs reasonable and within budget. His payment terms were more than fair. Once the job started, he came on-time, every day, until the job was finished. John completely transformed our bathroom from an ugly, sagging, outdated 1980s builder's grade bathroom to a clean, new, modern, drop-dead beautiful space. He gutted the bathroom and pulled up the subfloor, discovered why the bathroom floor was sagging, then fixed it. He also discovered a water leak under the floor around the toilet and fixed that so it would never happen again. He removed a fiberglass prefab tub/shower and replaced it with a real tub and shower. He hired a professional tile subcontractor who tiled the shower, floor, and a customized wall niche. John managed the subcontractor well, making sure he came back to fix a tiling problem that was discovered after the subcontractor was finished and gone. He turned a useless corner of a bedroom closet into a usable storage space in the bathroom. He moved the sink plumbing so it would hide behind a modern floating vanity, and moved the lighting from over the vanity mirror to accommodate sconces on either side. He installed a customized wall niche into an area where an old medicine cabinet used to be. He not only painted and hung a new bathroom door, he also changed two bedroom doors so they would all match. He also replaced all the molding and baseboards and did all the painting. He was open to changes and did his best to fulfill them. He also made design suggestions that we hadn't originally considered. All in all, the job went smoothly and within the estimated timeframe and budget. We can't wait to hire him again for another project. read more

I hired a handyman and the day before he was to start he was injured and unable to do the work for an indefinite period of time. I was desperate so I searched Yelp and found John Belanger Construction. Based on all his great reviews, I contacted him. I cannot say enough nice things about John! He came out, gave us very fair and reasonable estimates (we had a list) and completed all of the jobs quickly. During these jobs several other unrelated issues came up (old 1927 house!) and John fixed those too! We kept saying "Thank goodness for John!" When he installed a wall dog door in a carpeted room, he used a cardboard to catch the debris and then used his own vacuum to finish cleaning up - I was very impressed.
