You would think a record store in such a prime location would have such high overhead that they would need to keep the prices really high, but there are some good deals to be had here. Good selection of modern rock, punk, alt, and 60's rock. GREAT selection of audiophile pressings. Some wild Japanese vinyl from The Who that I'M DYING to own. They know what they have, and it's priced accordingly, but stuff that doesn't move seems to get discounted (despite what Discogs says it's worth) Clean, organized, friendly staff, no pressure. Nice shop. Decent sized with lots of inventory. Well organized and had several records that I don't see to often in the wild which was great for my collection. Just not my wallet. That's probably the only negative was (imho) the prices are high. It may be the neighborhood. Not high enough to keep me from buying the ones I didn't have but high enough to keep me from buying upgrades to my collection. Lots of related merchandise as well which I bought a couple of items. Owner was real friendly and not pushy which is always a plus. I will be back on my next trip to the area. read more

I found myself in Worcester recently for an event my daughter was attending. I had time to kill so found myself at Joe's Albums. This store is immaculate and very well organized. It is a mix of used stuff and Record Store Day reissues. I hit the quite large dollar section and made a couple of decent finds. The man working there was AWESOME. My partner got me a turntable for Christmas and we came here looking for affordable speakers. The man there showed us what he had and gave us some really easy-to-understand advice about cords we would need and how to set it all up. I purchased a vinyl there for a great price, and even saw a Stranger Things set in the back. He said he had sold put but would order more so I could get one. Very nice of him! I still need to go back and get one. Overall, I loved how friendly and non-judgemental he was for someone like me, who is new to all of this stuff. This store is a must visit. If you collect records, you need to come here. We stopped by the other day and it is somewhere we will be frequenting often. It's set in a cozy little space of storefronts on Main St. It is extremely neat and organized, which is a super plus if you're pressed for time and are looking for a specific band. I find this store to be quality over quantity, which is a great positive. It is also open everyday. The guy behind the counter was friendly and willing to help find whatever we needed. Besides records, they also carry some players and some clothing items. Like I said, we will be visiting here again. read more

Good selection of new and used records, very well organized, I'm a bit spoiled by the record shops in Rhode Island though as the used vinyl was on the high-moderate price side to what I am use to. A lot of Radio Show vinyl (King Biscuit Flour Hour etc) in the bins which you do not see everywhere was a nice surprise. The best of Worcester from my short tour of stores. read more

Got lost walking in downtown Worcester ... passed a record store. Nuts, I know, but food and beer was more important at that moment. Several minutes later and still lost I realized the need to turn around and couldn't resist stopping into Joe's this time. The attendant was helping someone so I start looking around 10,000 albums give or take. The only other visitor was now checking out with a turntable in hand (how that warms my heart). Joe doesn't seem to sell crap equipment either. I saw a selection of Music Hall turntables and basic to high end record cleaners too. Now free the guy behind the counter (Joe?) patiently ran with my musical tastes and in the end helped me find a few $7 platters of grooved vinyl. The albums are washed and,listening while I write this, they sound terrific! Vintage Bob Seger, early Carlos Santana, and solo Roger Daltrey. Before leaving I got free expert dinner advice too and was soon enjoying an IPA and a delicious plate of poutine at Armsby Abby. Thanks Worcester. You're kind of special after all! Steve F. I visited 14 record stores during my recent visit to Boston. Joe's Albums is the best! New arrivals, dollar sections, and tons of great albums. Both new and used. Albums are bagged and good quality, yet his prices are still fair. Next time you're in Worcester, it's a must-see for all vinyl collectors. read more

Joe's is really a great spot for the vinyl collector. The other reviewer notes that the store is only open Saturday and Sunday, but they have since added Friday afternoon/early evening, which is advantageous if you work in Worcester and want to stop in after work on a Friday night. The individually and clearly labeled records (album/artist/price) is a great touch. The used vinyl is always in good shape and looks like it gets cleaned before going out on the shelves (lots of used classic rock in the $4-$12 an album range). Quality is higher and prices lower on used vinyl than you'll find at That's Entertainment. Only reason I can't give 5 stars is the selection of current new releases tends to be pretty lacking (esp. indie rock). Joe has been willing to order anything I've asked about, and price-wise been able to stay pretty close to what you'd pay if you ordered online at Insound or Amazon, but it would be nice to have a bigger selection in store to browse. read more

Super cool spot to get lost for a while as you look for new records to add to the collection. There's a good mix of new and used LPs and 45s, and there's tons of dirt cheap records on the bottom shelves if you've got time to dig. Everybody that works there is real friendly and helpful, and there's even a store club to save some money after you spend x amount. read more

A fine record shop, loads of vinyl to flip through, no CDs. Some new sealed product, but most of it is used. Everything is clean and in very good condition. The genre is mostly Rock/Pop with a smaller section of Jazz. Joe is very friendly and keeps things well organized. read more

I travel a fair amount and have been to record stores all over the world. Joe's is special. It's the store every music nerd dreams of opening. Joe's is only open on Saturday and Sunday because Joe, who was manning the shop when I arrived on a Saturday morning, has a regular 9-5. He started selling records online out of his garage; as his business grew, he opened a brick and mortar. First impressions were great. The shop is not huge, but there are a solid number of racks. He also sells a good selection of music literature. As I dug into the racks, I was really impressed. Here's why: 1. Every record is labeled with a clear-as-day white label in the top right corner stating Artist, Album, and Price. This makes flipping through Joe's racks 100x easier than most. I was worried these labels would be hard to get off and would leave a sticky residue. I was shocked how easily they pealed off, with 0 residue left behind. The records are organized alphabetically. There is no "S" section with 250 random bands thrown together. They are meticulously organized, and it makes the entire experience of looking through Joe's racks awesome. 2. The selection is excellent. I saw used copies of records I NEVER see, including stuff from the 80s and 90s that's harder to find. New Order's Power, Corruption, and Lies...Harry Nilsson's "Nilsson Sings Newman"....The Velvet Underground's "White Light/White Heat"....I could go on. Most of his collection falls under the "rock" umbrella, with a smattering of R&B, folk, and country in the mix. You're not going to find a ton of great jazz or world music here, but if your mission is to pick up some good used 60s/70s records, you'll find something good. I checked the condition of about a dozen albums and was really impressed with how good they looked. Joe told me he has Beatles's albums in his dollar bins, because if they're not in good condition, he doesn't want them in his racks. Fantastic. The new records are handpicked by Joe, offer a diverse selection, and show he's thoughtful about what he puts in his racks. 3. The prices are very reasonable. I live in Chicago, and most of these records would run you about twice the price of Joe's. 4. Joe talked to me nearly the entire time I was in there--about an hour--and just came off as a great dude. Totally unpretentious, excited to be doing what he was doing, happy to have a customer who appreciated his store. Overall, I really can't say enough about this place. I left Joe's with a handful of beautiful used vinyl that is currently blasting out of my stereo and sounding fantastic. If you're in the area, go. read more

I'm usually very skeptical of brick and mortar record stores, but the prices are more than fair. The majority of the store is filled with classic rock staples but I have found several hardcore/punk albums both new and used. Staff is very friendly and the store is well maintained. Stopped by this little gem on Christmas Eve to pick up a new turntable and some records. Great inventory of used albums in all genres and tons of new release LPs as well, all reasonably priced. Small shop but packed with gems and everything is clean, in sleeves, and well organized. Owner/Joe was very helpful as well. It will be a stop on my weekly record shop tour for sure.
