Luckily, my wife came up with CBug's Records in East Windsor. Our transaction went as smooth as glass. First, I sent an e-mail to see if CBug's was interested, and soon Chris mailed back, saying he was. We arranged a date and a time, and since his store is on the second floor of The Vintage Shops collective, I called him from the parking lot and he walked down to check out the goods in the trunk of our car, packed into three boxes. While he was doing that, I took the opportunity to check out his store, and I gotta tell ya, it's a music junkie's paradise. Everywhere you look are LP albums, 45 singles, cassettes, eight tracks, and a ton more of very cool music memorabilia. I had a brief discussion on price with Chris, and he made me a very fair offer that I was thrilled with. My experience at CBug's could not have been any better, and I gotta give a shout out to Chris for his courtesy, professionalism, timeliness, and fairness.

One is in a house and the other, Heritage Books, resides in a former turn of the century brick library. As many times as I've driven by Heritage on Rt 10 just a few miles south of bohemian Northampton, it never seemed to be open. This past Sunday it was and I stopped in for my first look-see. Nice. Lots of interesting volumes on just about everything are neatly stacked and fairly priced. They have a strong fiction and history section and I couldn't help myself and bought a book about exploring Alaska written about twenty years ago after the first couple of paragraphs grabbed my attention. This is one of those uniquely New England used bookstores - always good for a surprising find at a reasonable price. And if you don't like the price, you can always bargain. Will I be back to Heritage? Absolutely!

Downstairs you'll find the vintage paperbacks at $3 each and upstairs the vintage pulp novels are individually wrapped and priced. They also have vintage posters, issues of Harper's from the 1800s, and a good number of vintage sci-fi books. The mass market paperbacks were cheap ($1) but in poor condition. I'd rather pay a few dollars more and get ones in fair to good condition. If you don't mine driving north to Hadley, you'll find the best bookstore in the area. But as loaded as it was, it was very well organized and very neat, so shopping and browsing was a real pleasure. They consign an extensive range of Junior & Women's clothing, household Items, home décor, artwork, fine and costume jewelry, silver & gold handbags, shoes, scarves & accessories, small wood furniture, books, CD's, DVD's, gifts, and collectibles. They recently introduced men's clothing to their selection, though currently, their men's inventory is limited to around a dozen outerwear coats and a few colorful bicycle racing jerseys. I also saw a nice selection of soaps, cosmetics, personal care and pet care items. One cool thing I spotted among their collection of sealed party games, was one titled "Fact or Crap." Here's the thing, though: museums like to place very-well-known cultural artifacts wide out in the open and secured, so anybody knows it's worth it. But that won't happen to you in a cultural goldmine in Game Depot, and that's because you have to know who wants what, and that means knowing the local community. While I was there, the proprietor, Chris, spoke to all sorts of locals about games they might be interested in, other games soon to come in or that just left, and other materials like a Spongebob CRT TV. (That's how you know I'm not making this up. *lol* ) You're likely here to sell or buy, not to know what makes this place tick. There's a lot of dense shelves of media that cover all sorts of video game consoles and video media players. From what I know, Christopher offers a professional standard rate on cash purchases: Half the rate he can sell it at. I think I understand, because where he's at must have plenty of people stopping by for media in the local industry.
