Ordered the bacon wrapped water chestnuts for an appetizer and they were delicious. We ordered the special, Cajun perch with potato pancakes and broccoli. First time here…read more Food: It was a Friday evening, around 8:00, and we decided to try some of the fish specials. I ordered the Pan-Seared Walleye, and she chose the Lake Perch Fry. Since our entrées included access to the salad bar, we started there. The appearance of the salad bar was disappointing. I realize it was later in the evening, but there were literally salad bar fixings all over the place. Some items were mixed together, some had spilled onto the enclosure, and there was food on the floor as well. Much of what was offered looked like it had come straight out of a can. The walleye wasn't bad. However, the mixed vegetables were a pile of mush, and although I had requested the potato pancake be extra crispy, it was still undercooked in the middle. The perch fry was okay, but nothing special. For dessert, she ordered the Brandy Alexander, and I had the LemonBerry Cake. The Brandy Alexander was very good, while the LemonBerry Cake was mediocre. Service: Our server did a nice job getting us settled in. Water and drinks arrived promptly, and they were friendly and pleasant throughout the evening. However, they became involved in a lengthy conversation at another table, so getting our check took quite a while. Atmosphere: To be honest, the place looks a bit run-down and could probably benefit from some TLC. Since it was later in the evening, there weren't many other diners, and the restaurant was relatively quiet. The view of the lake through the windows is spectacular and makes it a great place to watch the sunset. I wish the food had been better. Unfortunately, this isn't a place we are likely to return to.

Service was great…read more Food was okay. Steak was overcooked but they were slammed so I didn't send it back. I even ordered it a level lower than normal so I could send it back if it was underdone. Fries were good but very salty. Salad was good but they give a very very scant amount of dressing and I don't use much. Place is NOISY. Very loud. Every sound echoes and bounces off the walls and floor and is deafening. Overall we will try it again.

We started with the Smoked Peaches and Brie appetizer. We had it last time, and it was just as good this time. They could improve it by increasing the number of crostini from six to eight. There's plenty of peaches and Brie, but not quite enough crostini to go with them. I tell people that I absolutely love the brisket, so that's what I got again. The Brisket Sandwich is consistently good. The others ordered the Salmon Bowl, Pulled Pork Sandwich, and Baby Back Ribs. Everyone loved what they got, with the exception of the ribs. They were so tough that you could barely cut them. The person who ordered them didn't want to make a fuss but was clearly frustrated. It wasn't until the end of the meal that we mentioned the problem to our server. Next time, an item like that needs to be sent back. That would make for happier customers and a better-informed kitchen staff. I'll keep coming back for the brisket. :)

They have always been done to perfection and tasty. I would rather see them just cut the prices instead of the BOGO. That seems like just a way for customers to pay their wait staff more since it's expected to tip on the full cost. Personally tipping should just be done away with. For people complaining about wanting linen table cloths, what a waste of water cleaning that many every day. It's a rustic restaurant and I enjoy it remaining rustic.

Second time here in the last couple of months…read more Food: As much as I love the history of this place, the beautiful woods surrounding it, and the charm of the building, I have been very disappointed by the quality of the food. Unfortunately, this second dinner was even worse than the first. The rice was undercooked, the short ribs were dry, and the scallops were gritty. I realize that, for some people, the Buy One, Get One promotion is a big draw. However, I suspect that the menu prices are inflated to offset the BOGO savings, so it doesn't end up being much of an actual benefit. My wish is that they would focus on improving the quality and consistency of the food and charge prices that appropriately cover their costs while still allowing them to make a profit. I don't think we'll be coming back anytime soon, which is sad because there is so much to like about the location and atmosphere.

Came here with my brother for breakfast. Food: I'm not very traditional when it comes to breakfast, so I like a menu that has a few interesting items. I found several great choices on this menu and decided on the Avocado Morning Benedict. I find that hollandaise sauce can sometimes be a bit overwhelming, so I asked for it on the side. It didn't take long for the food to arrive. Everything was hot, the portions were generous, and the food was nicely seasoned. The eggs were cooked over easy, with the yolks still runny. The avocado and spinach were fresh and served on a toasted English muffin that was nicely buttered. It was an excellent choice. The accompanying American fries got an upgrade with cheese and fried onions. Absolutely delicious! This will probably be my go-to breakfast when I return. Service: We got there right when they opened at 7 a.m. There were already a few other tables seated when we arrived. The service was super friendly and efficient. We quickly got our water, coffee and tea, along with the menus. We needed some time with the menu, along with some necessary small talk, and our server checked back a couple of times without ever making us feel rushed. It was a very relaxed meal. Atmosphere: With the log exterior and large front porch, my first thought was Cracker Barrel. The inside, however, feels a bit more upscale than CB. The interior is nicely furnished, with plenty of booths and tables. There are also tables outside on the porch if you'd rather sit outdoors. The overall design has a country feel and makes for a comfortable, relaxed atmosphere. Definitely a place I'd return to.

Stopped in for another meal…read more Food: The food was excellent. They have eleven different sliders, so we ordered four different ones, along with a side of the haystack onion rings. Service: There was an issue with our order. Apparently, it did not "print" back in the kitchen. We ended up waiting an additional 20 minutes before someone figured out what had happened. They acknowledged the mistake, apologized, and comped our drinks. Atmosphere: They now have outdoor entertainment every evening, and there is plenty of seating to choose from. The traffic around the roundabout intersection can get noisy, but I think they simply turn up the volume to compensate. A good spot for smoked meats and other sandwiches.
