I spent nearly $11,000 with Advanced Functional Medicine seeking treatment for mold-related illness…read moreand left feeling completely misled. I was not there for treatment of my autoimmune condition--I already had a neurologist managing that. I came specifically for help with mold illness, yet nearly every symptom I reported was attributed to my autoimmune disease while my mold concerns were never addressed. At the time, I was incredibly sick and so desperate to feel better, so I was willing to try almost anything that gave me hope. Because of that, it didn't take much for me to agree to finance treatment. I deeply regret that decision. My initial consultation was with Dr. Willis, but after that I never saw him again. Every subsequent appointment I had was with other staff members, such as a nutritionist. I later learned that Dr Willis was a chiropractor rather than a functional medicine physician, and there was no physician involved in my care who could prescribe medications. Most appointments were phone calls that consisted of me crying and being told to give the 'treatment' more time while my health continued to decline significantly. I also experienced repeated problems with my 'medical records' and the administrative side of my care, including errors in medical documentation and billing. In my experience, the entire process was disorganized and added to an already overwhelming situation. After months of treatment, I had accumulated a large loan while my condition continued to worsen. Ironically, I am now doing significantly better under the care of a physician who actually specializes in mold-related illness and toxicity. This experience left me feeling devastated and taken advantage of. This is my personal experience, and I hope others carefully research who will be treating them, understand their credentials and scope of practice, and think carefully before making a significant financial commitment before signing anything.

I thought I was eating well, she showed me the proper way to eat. Like everything else, if you follow directions and do the work, you will see results and I have. I have learned so much about my own particular health, Dr. Martinez concentrates on the individual rather than the "average," greatly appreciated. The office is well run and organized, I have phone appointments rather than driving, saves us all much time. She is the best.

At my first visit Dr. Martinez talked through all my crazy symptoms for 2 hours! I was a mess. But after changing my diet dramatically, discovering some major vitamin deficiencies and hormone imbalances, adding supplements and having someone care about my wellness instead of just fixing symptoms, I am slowly getting better. I sleep soundly most nights, my appetite has retuned, I can make it through the day with energy, and my mood is lifting. I actually WANT to do things again. It has not been an easy road. Detoxing was awful. And Dr. Martinez and the the staff at Nourish, Mimi, Faith, Dr. Gelman, and Murray the office dog all helped me through. Even just giving me a hug when I didn't think I'd ever get better. I can't say enough for Dr. Martinez and everyone at Nourish! You not only helped me get my life and vitality and joy back, but I'm learning to live a much healthier life to stay that way!! I can never thank you enough.

Late last year and also early this year I needed some help and so I made an appointment with one of the newer doctor. Doctor was nice and all but when bill came in it was not what I was expecting. It was charged for a long visit which it was not. Dr. was new and so he had lots of questions etc. but that it not my fault. I complained, went back and forth but ended up paying. This is NOT the first time I see this practice from UCSD. My son at different location had same exact situation and for normal consultation with GI dr. it is costing us $438 (yes, for 15 mins or so visit). I read another review from January with similar overcharge comment. From my experience and from another comment I see a pattern here and it seems they are trying to milk every dime they can from insurance, from patients, from whoever they can.

I'm writing this review because what happened to me should never happen to any patient…read more I came to this clinic in a vulnerable and time-sensitive situation, and instead of being treated with professionalism, care and compassion, I was met with dismissiveness and a complete lack of understanding from office management. It was clear that certain staff members in critical positions are not trained -- or not willing -- to de-escalate, listen, or handle difficult situations with basic empathy. What I experienced felt more like ego and defensiveness than patient care. My provider has been supportive, but the front-end leadership turned an already stressful medical situation into something unnecessarily painful. No patient who is already struggling should walk out feeling worse because of the staff's attitude. UCSD is a respected institution -- but this experience shows that some individuals do not uphold the standard the institution's name carries. I hope leadership genuinely reflects on this, because the way certain staff behaved is not just disappointing -- it is unacceptable for a healthcare environment.

I have been going to see Dr Shikhman for a year now and these ladies have wonderful customer service. Griselda is a gem! Dr Shikhman was thorough with my exam, ordered testing and gave me a DIAGNOSIS and a treatment plan that is helping me. It is not an overnight fix for me. Yes, you will be charged for a no-show visit. He is a busy man who books months out. Someone else would have gladly taken your spot! I am so thankful I have found him and his caring staff to help me through this.
