Mixed bag. Hire at your own risk.
So the good: You can get them on the same day you book if you beg like I did (no pride, I needed help since I've been nonstop traveling for work (cleaning got away from me), have cats who don't clean up for themselves, I had a houseguest coming and my cleaner bailed as the last minute due to health problems ).
The bad: JoDec's price may change significantly from what you are quoted. Make sure you understand the number of people coming in and the hours they will be there and that you understand the scope of the work. And check their work afterward to make sure you are happy. Hint: I am not happy.
My story:
I hired Jodec for same-day service through Angie's List after another cleaner bailed on me an hour before she was scheduled to come. I was upfront and honest about the condition of the condo--it was dirty and needed to be cleaned desperately but because of my work travel, I've been unable to do anything substantial, and cleaning got away from me). I am not proud of the fact my condo is really messy and dirty but it is what it is. I was quoted a price ($150+$20 if I want them to clean the refrig) I asked several times for clarification on the price then agreed when I was satisfied and told them to come. I should have known it wouldn't be straightforward.
When they came 10 minutes after the designated time, one of my cats ran through and they said, oh you have pets? Yes, I said. They asked how many and I told them.
Within ten minutes, I get a call from Jodec saying because I have cats and my place is significantly more dirty than they thought when they gave me the original quote, they are charging me $100 more to clean ($250 for two hours of work which is $125 an hour for one worker PLUS TIP). I pushed back against JoDec's owner and got nowhere, except for a $10 price break bringing the total to $240. She told me the cleaners told her the place was way more filthy than they were told and that's why they had to raise the price $100.
I felt blindsided because on my Angie List request and in conversations with them I felt I was brutally honest about the condition of the place and I was being treated like I lied about the place being more clean than it was. I am sure people say all of the time their places are a mess but mine really was a mess, and I said so, so where did I lie? And why was I treated like I lied? Check what I wrote on the original Angie's List request if you don't believe me, JoDec. I was honest about the condition of the place. Now, I am sure they are going to come back and say the $150 was just an estimate until they saw my place and could give me a more accurate quote. BUT at no time during the original call did they say that. And if the question is on a miscommunication on the number of hours needed, that is a different discussion, but that was never discussed either (my bad). And, if they needed to add an extra $$ for same day work, that would have been reasonable.
So how did they do?
Well, the cleaner ended up staying for a little over 2 hours. The bedroom for my house guest looks nice and they did switch out the sheets as requested. I have no idea why they partially tucked the skirt up. But the made bed looks awesome.
The hallway to the bedroom was vacuumed as requested, although it looks like they missed a few spots but I can see they did vacuum. The baseboard (no pix) clearly needed wiped which they did not do as part of the deep clean.
The toilet they could not get clean as you see in the pix and they left mildew on the bathtub. I am sure they did the best they could for the time the cleaner was allotted to clean. But I will tell you I've had other cleaners come in who have been able to clean more but they were at my place for longer than two hours and had more than one person for a lot less than I paid JoDec today. They have since picked up full time jobs elsewhere and have given up cleaning. And I will tell you that I was able to easily and completely clean the semi clean toilet jodec left for me by using a magic eraser. Same for the mildew spot on the tub.
Kitchen. This was an afterthought. Sink looks sparkly clean. Counters not so much. There were marks on the counter that I cleaned off after the cleaner left with a magic eraser. Things were not picked up and moved to wipe the counter down either. Then there is the floor for both the kitchen and bathroom. Neither was not wiped down. Picture shown is a spot on the kitchen floor after the cleaner left. Again, it would have been easy to spray and wipe and I wouldn't have looked elsewhere on the floor to see that it wasn't clean.
I am so disappointed I hired JoDec and am tempted to give them 1 star. But I am giving them (and me the benefit of the doubt that there was a huge miscommunication on both sides about expectations so take my experience with a grain of salt. I won't be hiring them again based on both my experience with the owner and the actual cleaning. read more
