Social Distancing at Joann Fabrics
Dee R.

We wanted to pitch in and make masks for health care workers and Joann Fabrics is supposed to be supplying kits for people to make them, per why they are allowed to be open. We waited in line for an hour while people were let in a few at a time for social distancing. The line went all the way back to the Publix. The highlight of our long wait was a very happy woman with a shopping cart full of goodies loudly letting all of us know the liquor store next door did not have a line. Smiles and laughter ensued. Well, when we got in they were out of the wicking and the elastic to make masks and had "None" in the store. Hmm, okay. (I don't think they had any kits) I wanted the family to make our own masks to be safe while grocery shopping and when I have to go into the office anyway, so we made a plan. Dense fabric sections , no flannel, from the sale area, ribbon (with some flex) woven cord and cotton batting. (you need a barrier and cloth only is not good protection for you) We found every thing we needed and made our way to check out. I had a 20% off coupon and the cashier was very friendly My disappointment about the health care workers mask kits, we did not get to make and donate, is why my review isn't 5 stars. If your going to announce a charitable project have the supplies.

If I could give them zero stars I would. 36 people in line and two working the registers. This is exactly why I typically purchase online.

You have to stand in a long line to check out. There is no help available. You mostly have to know exactly what you want.

Worlds worst customer service. 830 in Friday night and 12 people in line with ONE cashier.

This is such a cool little quilt shop! I'm not really a quilter but I wanted to pop in after an…read moreappointment nearby and see what this store was all about. There were a few ladies working who were all super friendly. The only fabrics (barring I think two bolts of solid cotton knit and some utility type fabrics) are quilting cottons. There are many options, and a great assortment of indie patterns, quilting focused notions, interfacings, thread (mettler, the best brand imo), and an assortment of machines. I asked about service costs for my serger that hasn't been serviced since it was purchased nearly 25 years ago. I was quoted $165 which I think is pretty reasonable. I loved all the little finished projects (especially the cute flamingo bags!) and the nice workspace in the back. The store is super clean and feels new.

I made a major purchase of a Pfaff sewing machine and the staff helped me every step of the way and…read moreassisted with the questions and concerns i had. I do continue to shop and purchase my supplies and fabric from S&S!! I love the variety of fabrics available and of course the friendly staff. I feel like I have stepped into my family home with everyone saying hello and asking about my current life events...it's welcoming like I am visiting all my Aunties and Home. As a Native American, family means everything and I always feel welcomed at Scrap & Sew as soon as I walk in the store. I'll continue to shop and visit the store and I hope you will too.

Probably the last of its kind in the area. It looks smaller than it is…read more I came looking for materials for table place mats. They have a huge selection of all materials for sewing projects. Staff is very friendly, polite and helpful. A special thank you to Ms. Karen. She took me exactly to the area I needed to look in. She saved me time wondering around. They had plenty of the material I was looking for. Unfortunately I didn't find the right color. I noticed they offered different price ranges on all materials. They also offer sewing machines, machine repair, and project classes. Staff is available and ready to help. They are well staffed.

With the recent closing of Joann's fabrics, many home sewers are struggling to source fabrics…read more While online shopping is an option, it's difficult to determine colors and how well the fabric will work with a specific project. Thus, I was willing to hunt down the Sewing Studio while in Orlando for a conference. I was looking for fabric to make an Elsa costume for my granddaughter. I wanted the perfect sparkly fabric for my little "Elsa". The Sewing Studio Fabric Superstore has a large room of speciality fabrics. They had an entire hanging wall display filled with special brocades, another hanging wall display showcased wedding fabrics, while another hangin wall display had dance fabrics. I was impressed with the large wall of bolt bins of miscellaneous fancy fabrics. I took in a sample of the velvet fabric I already had for the dress and the associate patiently helped me find the perfect brocade to make a corset over the dress. She knowledgeable discussed with me the best way to wash and sew the brocade. She helped me find matching thread and made sure I had everything I needed to make the perfect dress. If you're looking for speciality fabrics, this is the place to go. If you're looking for quilting cottons, they have a large selection at good prices. This is a full service fabric store that is worth the drive.
