I didn't care much for the chicken burrito as they use shredded chicken which I dread . Other than the chicken , the beans and flavors were on point. The burrito is on the smaller side so be aware . I'd return for the birria tacos . The meat was tender and plentiful and a lot more filling and satisfying . read more

Extremely yummy! I got 2 orders (each order is 2 tacos); one shrimp, the other chorizo. The texture on the tortilla is perfect, the shrimp was succulent, with a tad of aioli; the chorizo was a tad salty, but otherwise deeply flavorful and actually quite spicy (in a way that was nice and worked out). The pico de gallo was fresh and provided great counterbalance to the proteins. read more

Hands down the best quesadilla I've had maybe ever!!! The ladies were smiley, so warm, and fast. I was nervous there were no seats here but I snapped a pic for future patrons awareness - there are 3 tables and a mini bar for 3. The birria taco with consume dip was really good. Back to the quesadillas though lol she served it with spicy green sauce. I asked did she have regular salsa instead. Her answer was no but she said they have chipotle mayo. Listeeenn the quesadillas are flavorful & juicy you don't need sauce but the chipotle mayo every for every two bites was niiiice. If I'm in the area again I'd absolutely come here!!! Extremely small taco shop in the heart of the East Village. Seating for about 10. We enjoyed dining in as the food was extremely fresh. The two member restaurant team was welcoming and efficient. Geez, we've been sleeping on this place. I had no idea that Jo's was so close to my apartment. It's a tiny space, but the food is bomb! Their birria tacos definitely rank in my top three around the city. Sadly, our fave, Kuxé, closed awhile back. As a close runner-up, Jo's satisfies, plus it's a lot closer to home. I'm not sure I'll ever understand the whole selling-the-consommé-as-a-separate-item thing, mostly because I feel like birria tacos are just a delivery device for the broth, but... I don't run the business. I just think it's a crime to order the tacos sans concomitant elixir. And the chicken quesadilla was easily one of the most jam-packed, delightful renditions of this dish I can recall having in the past year. It was bursting at the seams with fillings, and made for a great backup birria consommé sponge after we'd finished the tacos. First off, immediately when walking in, you feel surrounded; but in a familiar way. Not suffocating and stressful, but like walking into your favorite childhood Mexican food spot. Service was quick, efficient, and straight to the point. However I saw a care in this employee's eyes that I never quite got from Tacobell or hell even Chick Fil-A. I see passion. A real Mexican food spot with real people. I ordered a carne asade burrito and my friend ordered Birria tacos. I have nothing but good things to say about Jo's. It's a cute, very small restaurant near Union Square. It seats about 5 people total at a time but the food is impeccable. Some of the best Mexican food I've had in a while. The quesadilla and tacos were so flavorful and authentic. The staff were incredibly friendly and answered a lot of questions that we had. The Barria tacos were delicious but they give you a little small size of the consome broth. So if you order the special of 2 tacos for $11 you don't have enough consome broth and that is what makes Barria tacos. They want you to buy a cup of the consome broth for $3.50. When other places give you a big cup of it when you order tacos. This is how they get you to spend more money. I felt cheated because Barria tacos are meant to have the consome broth. Good spot for tacos but make sure to expect a little small consome with your tacos! read more

Stopped in a moment ago to check out the menu when I saw they offer shrimp tacos. I ordered two, they came out in 3-4 minutes, and were absolutely delicious. We've been to Jo's Taco twice now and it is definitely a hidden gem. Best birria tacos in the city, and quite possibly the best quesadilla. We tried both the chicken and chorizo quesadillas; they're both fantastic but chorizo might have the edge. The chef, who I assume is Jo, is always friendly and greets you with a big smile. The place is tiny, with just a few two-tops, but they serve the food on real plates with a cute consommé bowl for the birria tacos. Definitely add this spot to your list, even if just for take-out. I helped take some videos of Jo's and their products. Afterwards, we ended up ordering food from them and, I can say with total honesty, it was incredible. The chef is such a perfectionist that he works to make sure everything not just tastes good, but also LOOKS good. When she finally came to the front she did not greet us and bluntly asked for our order via Grubhub. She then pleasantly greeted the gentleman behind us and another customer behind him. Yes yes yes!!! Jo's Taco is soooooo good!! We tried multiple things (vegan and non-vegan) and everything was so fresh, tasty, and perfectly cooked. Plus everyone working there is incredibly nice and sweet. I recommend this place 100%. We had reservations and there was a party ahead of us at the entrance. No greeting or acknowledgment from the hostess upon entrance (red flag). She seated the other party and very lackadaisically returned to her booth to finally acknowledge our presence. She seated us with menus but no brunch menu even though it was still brunch time. I had to ask the waiter for it. Took a while to get order in. We ordered two apps and one entree to share. Took even longer for our food to arrive. We ordered: Nachos - they were ok Fried calamari - overly salty, slightly fishy, and COLD Chile relleno - underwhelming, lukewarm Hibiscus pomegranate iced tea - tasted like grenadine water. Zero pomegranate or hibiscus flavor. Also, different prices between brunch and regular menu. We were charged regular menu price. Overall, super underwhelming and not worth your time or money. Chipotle would've been better than this.

If you are someone who is looking at an aesthetic place, this is a top contender. Unfortunately, I would say this place is better looking than the food is good. The food was fine, appetizers were all fresh but lacked any real depth in flavor. I wasn't too thrilled with the bone marrow I had either (but the tortillas come in the cutest basket). Personally, if it wasn't for the drinks and the space, I cant say this place is worth it - you're not coming here for the food. Another little complaint I have is the women's restroom on the second floor - right by the door is a floor to ceiling mirror which I understand was included to make the space seem bigger, but my friends and I agreed that it is a little misleading - I kept wanting to walk into it thinking there was more space there and not wall. I would recommend maybe putting a decal on it to clearly show its mirror.
