I called one company I knew and I had to keep calling and calling back to get an estimate. After two weeks of waiting, I decided to call someone else and stumbled upon Johnston Roofing. Charlie came over and wrote me up an estimate on the spot on a pre-printed multi part yellow form -- warranty included (did I mention old school?), I just went with them without waiting for the other estimate because he said he could do the job the next day, max two days. Well, that solves my problem right away so I go for it without even getting the other estimate. His guys come, the job is neat and clean--no more leaks and done in one day. I have a nice new white colored roof which is greener too. Five days later, I get the estimate from the other guys and it was way more complicated and expensive. Guess I'm lucky the other guys took so long.

The next day I inspected the attic thinking that maybe the solar panels installed two years ago may be the cause. To my surprise and relief the cause was a missing plastic cover that was on the roofs powered exhaust vent. It had blown off during Fridays storm. Luckily my tenant had stored the cover but did know what it was. The vent with the cover on looks like a mushroom. On Sunday, I used Angie 's list to located a Staten Island roofer since my Brooklyn guy had not yet called back and I didn't want to risk another rain storm. The first contractor that called was already talking about replacing the exhaust vent at about $1600 for the job I cut him short since I only wanted a cover replaced. I said this is not looking good . Good bye. About 5 minutes later Marke calls me I got lucky, real lucky in finding a guy that did not try to cheat me. I told him all that was needed was to replace the cover. I texted him the photos of the cover. He stated that he could possibly fix the cover once he takes a look at it. It may be hard to find a replacement. At 10am he arrived at the house with his father. (Once he said that was his father, I knew I had the right guy) He inspected the roof and confirmed he could do a decent repair. He showed me pics of the roof vent. No need to change it. He used metal strips and screws to attach the cover. Then he placed ice/water shield and adhered it to the cover. He took pics again after the repair. The price was very reasonable The honesty was superb The time arrangement could not have been better. I paid cash and he later emailed me an invoice as I had requested. He is a good man who works with his father and since he did not steer me wrong, I decided to give him an excellent review!! I hope you call him if you ever do need a reliable and honest roofer. They were not our cheapest bid but not the most expensive either. We chose TPO. Our contract specified the work as welded TPO. They started work, tore off the old roof. I called to warn them that the weather report was for heavy showers. They told me they were prepared. But they were not. It was a huge downpour right into our home. In comes the flood squad, insurance adjusters and everything else. After a six figure claim, Quality finished the roof and helped with all the drywall and damage work. A few months after they leave, the rain comes and so do the leaks. Small at first and then some larger ones. We thought Quality had gone out of business, so we contacted another roofer. They pointed out the seams were not welded. They were taped over with adhesive. And the roof would continue to leak no matter what we did. The work was not up to GAF standards. Since then we have been patching and running for buckets. We have resigned ourselves to the fact that this brand new TPO will need to be ripped off and replaced. Even the work they did to put another layer of bitumen on the upper roof leaks. Every roofer who has seen the work is astonished by how bad it is. I don't know who is writing the positive reviews here and in Google. I suggest you dig a bit deeper. There are also a lot of 1 star reviews that match our experience. So. Beware.

As a first-time homebuyer experiencing an ongoing leak, I weighed my options for a roof repair with several roofing contractors. What stood out about Jon and his team was their positive reviews and responsiveness. An estimator came to my home in less than 12 hours for a free quote and more importantly, provided insight to where the water was coming from and options to remedy the problem. Based on my conversations I decided to go with a small, repair job. When the roofers began their work, the situation evolved into something more serious. Inside I feared this all along: that a repair would only delay the water from eventually coming back into the house. And that's when I talked it over in person with Jon. He sparked my inner financier and advised that a complete roof replacement would be a long-term investment for the home and the work would be covered for 50 years under the GAF warranty. I agreed. Eden Goldenberg never showed. I was awarded the total amount by the judge (4K+ court costs). Last year they had me pay an additional $1800.00 stating if I do this additional work , for sure the landing will no longer leak. Well they bamboozled me twice alone just on the landing because it still leaks Since February the roof is leaking to the degree the ceiling gave way. Without coming to evaluate they stated its the drain not the roof. They kept making excuse, finally after threats, they came and tar around the drain and fixed the landing. Well they both still continue to leak. I had a plumber/ drain man evaluate and he stated the drain is fine the roof leaked around the drain pipe , he stated one of the pipe was not sealed. The leak had destroyed the plywood around the drain & the apartment is taken in water. I three way the plumber with Alex Stewart and he informed of above. Alex told me he would reach out to his father and get back to me with a plan. I never heard back from him and now it's May. He has not answered calls, text, or emails. So much for the Five year warentee. I have had two other professional roofing company up to evaluate and they have confirmed above. In addition they commented on how they did the entire roof wrong & insist I am going to have more problems. I have reported them to the BBB & soon the NYC licensing and plan to take all kinds of legal action. I have a big headache, complaints from my tenants, leaks and property damage! ! Don't use them!
