When he climbed the ladder he said my gutter was bad and that is bent... and then i told him that it was straight until he banged his ladder into it and he replied that there was no other way to get his ladder up without doing that. At the moment I didn't think much of it and so today i had another person give me a second opinion and told me that the other person should not have bent my gutter with his ladder like that. That was very unprofessional of him to make my gutter worse and then blame me for it. For that, fuck him.

Charlie came over and wrote me up an estimate on the spot on a pre-printed multi part yellow form -- warranty included (did I mention old school?), I just went with them without waiting for the other estimate because he said he could do the job the next day, max two days. Well, that solves my problem right away so I go for it without even getting the other estimate. His guys come, the job is neat and clean--no more leaks and done in one day. I have a nice new white colored roof which is greener too. Five days later, I get the estimate from the other guys and it was way more complicated and expensive. Guess I'm lucky the other guys took so long.

I tried to talk through various options with him, but as soon as it became clear I likely wasn't going to spend $6,500 on the spot to replace the entire roof, he became disinterested and eventually hung up on me. I get Charles not wanting to waste time, but the numbers he was throwing at me seemed very large, especially for the situation. He wasn't wiling to talk through things at all unless I was going to commit to thousands of dollars on the spot. Also, after some less rushed research, $6,500 is a very high price for a 250 square foot flat roof. Charles seemed like a nice enough fellow - but I can't help feeling that I narrowly escaped being taken for a very expensive ride because i needed work done quickly - as anyone with a leaking roof likely can relate to!

Eden Goldenberg never showed. I was awarded the total amount by the judge (4K+ court costs). He exclaimed a minimum of 2 men are required and it will take all day! REALLY? His estimate to CLEAN the debris from the roof gutters (3 sides) came to $750! REALLY? Honest business here? I then asked him what it would cost to clean my next door neighbor's roof gutters so that I can capitalize of some economies of scale here. The estimator then lowered his price to $450/house. REALLY? To make a long story short, I went with a STATEN ISLAND guy that gave me quote over the phone after sending in my house pic and he quoted me $175/house!!!! Why are manual laborers like this so dishonest? Whatever happened to honest day's work? Whatever happened to one's honesty? So much for religion, diversity, equity and inclusion?!?!?!? An estimator came to my home in less than 12 hours for a free quote and more importantly, provided insight to where the water was coming from and options to remedy the problem. My roof was in very bad shape and I had many roofers tell me or give me a choice of just putting on a new layer. John was the only one that said NO and told me that all the old stuff must be removed. I am glad that I listened to John. This house was built in the 1930s and the old roofing material was about 6-8 inches thick and so dried out that it was hard as rock. It must have weighed several tons, if not more. My roof is now over 4 years old and it still looks like the day it was put on. The material selection and workmanship is excellent after more than 4 years.
