As good as it gets for breakfast ... anywhere. Period.
South Jersey is truly lucky to be the home of one of the best hidden gems in all of the tri-state area, if not the country.
On a recent trip to Atlantic City, my wife and I decided to have breakfast here on a Sunday morning. It was only a 10 minute drive from the heart of Atlantic City. After reading the rave reviews and that it was named People Magazine's New Jersey pick for "Your Favorite Breakfast...In Every State" and was on Yelp's Top 100 Places to Eat in the U.S. 2019 our expectations were sky high ... and it not only met those expectations, but exceeded them with ease!
We swung by at 11:30am and the diner was at capacity, but lucky for us seats were constantly turning over, so we didn't have to wait a minute. We ended up at the counter, which was exactly where we wanted to be. Having already looked at numerous photos of the amazingly awesome-looking food, we were ready to order from the moment we stepped in. I ordered the famous Chicken & Waffle and my better half ordered the Steak & Eggs.
All I need is 2 words to describe both breakfast dishes - Freaking Amazeballs. The Chicken & Waffle was their most popular breakfast dish and the pictures of it look great online, but to actually eat it was an out of body experience. Without a doubt, it was the best variation of chicken and waffles I had ever tried anywhere.
The chicken was a piece of country fried boneless chicken breast and it sat on a single waffle that was able to withstand the weight of the delectable goodness above it. It was actually the 1st time I had ever seen a boneless chicken breast used for a chicken and waffles dish and it was the perfect choice. The chicken was fried to perfection, crispy, juicy and would have been awesome dish just by itself. The crunchiness of the chicken was really ridiculous, but what put it over the top was the delicious maple gravy. Another first in our books as we had never seen gravy used on top of a chicken and waffles dish, but it was absolute genius. Each and every bite was so savory and I honestly did not want the experience of enjoying the dish to end.
The Steak & Eggs were also excellent too. Not as instagram-worthy as the Chicken and Waffle and the eggs and home fries were average, but the sirloin steak was cooked exactly as we had asked for, medium. The steak was surprisingly tender, juicy and very flavorful for a diner steak. It had a nice thickness to it too.
The food couldn't have gotten any better. As for the service, it had a little room for improvement. The waitresses were friendly, but our order took a bit more time to come out than we would have liked. Also, it took a good 10 minutes before our food order was taken after our seating. I understand it was busy and waitresses were flying all over the place, so I will cut them some slack. Just a minor gripe and it in no way ruined our experience here. The bottom line is that the Chicken & Waffle dish lived up to every bit of hype that I had read online and tasted even better than it looked. It'll be really hard to top this one anywhere. read more
