Don't take your rc cars/trucks here for service! Took my rigs here for some work and when I picked up a week later parts were stolen off one of my trucks. I called them to notify my truck was missing a set of custom wheel nuts and they questioned me, if I even brought the truck with these parts on it. The owner never reached out to resolve the issue. Very disappointing I've also heard other people have had parts stolen from this place as well. Beware!! read more

If I could give Jason 6 stars, I would. This guy not only knows his stuff, but genuinely cares. Walked in and it was somewhat busy already, yet Jason made sure we were greeted and felt welcome right away in what's already an amazing shop with all his models on display (a ton of them). He treated every customer with the same enthusiasm, whether they were looking into entry-level ready-to-run for kids or the ones running at a few thousands. He bounced between several customers without rushing anyone or upselling any of the cars. He was super patient with the kids and let them test out a few of the cars, even took the time to explain the controls to them and helped them figure out how to navigate the awesome terrain he had set up in the middle of the store. This store is like an RC car Disneyland. We walked out with two RC cars and having spent a lot more than we had planned but (1) items were fairly priced for the quality and selection, (2) the service was unheard of, and (3) we were happy to support a small business that so earned it. read more

I visited this place back in Nov, to find the first RC car for my son. Sean was super kind to answer all my questions and he recommended a Losi Mini for my son, who absolutely fell in love with it. We messed up by draining the battery out too far. I called up and they offered to try and jump start it. I went back to the shop in December. They did not have the right charger for jump starting this battery. So they actually went ahead and made one just for this. When the battery did not work, they gave me a replacement battery for FREE! This place is small compare to other southbay hobby store. However they have Arrma parts for me. It looks like sometime they pull them from their own cars because the parts aren't in packages. I don't mind as long as they work. The price is lowest online. Marvin, I think, is a cool dude. Helped this rookie diagnosed a few problems. Their regulars are friendly and helpful too. Sebastian, a customer, was polishing his steel car body. Looks way cool. He helped my kids understand crawling. Much appreciated dude. Met a guy that was new to it just like me... he mentioned that he just bought a car from Jason and that he gave him a pretty sweet deal. I called Jason and he told me to come by. I needed another ESC for my Traxxas Maxx as the OEM got the red lights of death. I called Traxxas, and they offered to replace it free of charge (under warranty). I sent the OEM ESC to Traxxas and began my research to see if this was a common occurrance, and I learned two things: It does happen on occasion, and that Hobbywing, Castle and Reed make great drop-in replacements. I liked the idea of unleashing the true power of the OEM motor with continued reliability from the above mfr's, but I couldn't decide which was best for my driving style and budget. Disclosure, I'm not a racer, and I'm just getting back into the hobby after leaving my adolescent yrs a couple decades ago. I just like to bash around and have a good time outdoors. Anyway, back to this review.. I looked up LHS's nearby and, although there were a couple near my community, I decided to trip over to JJ's... and I couldn't be happier that I did. I explained my ESC situation and driving style, and they recommended a few. I really liked the Hobbywing reviews, and both RJ & JJ explained the pros & cons of the various ESC's - in detail and with extreme patience. They don't upsell here, and it was at this time I learned two more things: These guys know their stuff, and they want their patrons to leave with a smile of confidence! I purchased a Hobbywing ESC, and ultimately paid to have it installed (my soldering skills are to be desired for now). The install fee was reasonable and the turnaround time was quick - a couple days, but they DID advise me it could take up to 10 days since they were a bit busy. Fast fwd a couple days and I couldn't be more impressed with the tin work and install. Sean was money, too. I've now been to JJ's 3x, and I can say they're professional, competent and humble.
