I really like the atmosphere in here. It is a nice spot to sit and get some work done, lovely and bright and a balance between lively and calm. The outdoor seating area is temporarily closed at the moment, which is a shame because it's the perfect spot to sit down with a warm drink! Nice neighbourhood coffee shop with plenty of clearly labeled vegan options nowadays, with 4-5 vegan muffins, 2 vegan wraps (including a vegan burrito and an umami mushroom breakfast wrap), a vegan cookie, and banana bread. I went for the breakfast wrap ($11.50 plus tax), which they offer to warm up for you and serve with either hot sauce or hot salsa. The wrap was ready in ~5 minutes. It was designed very well, with a harmonious filling of potatoes, JUST Egg, red pepper hash, red onion, and nicely marinated and roasted mushrooms -- goes great with the hot salsa. Very tasty, filling and good value. I'd recommend it. On the whole, very happy this place is in my new neighbourhood. read more

Great place that opens early and has yummy pastries. I tried the cheddar chive scone as well as the cheddar and jalapeno muffin. Both were amazing. The scone was so rich and the chive was subtle but enough. The cheddar and jalapeno was a bit more familiar and had a stronger kick than I had imagined. Still, all very pleasant to jumpstart the day. I can't say anything about the coffee but this place is definitely for noncoffee drinkers too! read more

I'm going to give a five star because I wish this chain was in San Diego and I was a visiting tourist who absolutely enjoyed their vision/take on coffee! The concept here is different than that of other coffee shops. They roast the best beans and switch it up on a monthly -quarterly? basis. I forget what my tour guide specified for the timeframe. The reason behind that is they want the best beans for what's around that season, so they source the best ones for that time/weather/moment. Pretty cool! And that's what makes every coffee cup so special. I absolutely loved both beverages that I tried here: 1. Fresca Medici - While this one is under their "Blended" section, it is not a frappucino (excuse the starbucks lingo) styled ice blended beverage. They simply shake up the espresso milk honey and cocoa up slightly with a couple ice cubes. This gives way to a foamy texture like what you think of as an iced cappuccino but they leave out the ice. 2. Vanilla Latte - half the syrup with a dash of honey. This was so yummy and my boyfriend said it was his favorite drink of all the coffee places we tried that weekend in Vancouver. read more

Note: This review is based on only one menu item. I quite like the setting, especially the seats outside along 18th Ave. Staff is fine and prices are fair. My only disappointment was the cinnamon roll. Maybe I'm too used to the soft and gooey type. I found this one at JJ quite dry and after three bites, I stop eating, even with a coffee to wash it down. Other than that, the coffee was fine. Clean and well kept. read more

Excellent iced mocha, perfect amount of chocolate where I can taste it without being overly sweet to not taste the espresso. The cashier & barista was very friendly. It does get crowded, but that's a good sign that they are good to have a lot of business. My friend told me their cookie was the best thing they've ate all day, and we ate a lot of good things that day. Hahaha. One of those hip, trendy coffee shop with gender neutral bathroom. I visited the Cambie location Saturday morning and ordered a muffin. I noticed there were flies inside the pastry case. I notified the 2 staff behind the register and they didn't do anything with an attitude that they didn't care about food safety, hygiene or food handling. Perhaps someone from HO or the store manager should look into this immediately. read more

Grabbed a snack and a chai latte here in the morning. I liked their chai latte - it was sweet and yummy. Their salted caramel cookie was ok haha definitely not my favourite though. I also had the southwest chicken wrap for lunch which had beans, chicken and brown rice all wrapped with a spinach tortilla wrap. It had good flavour and it was served with salsa and hot sauce as well which was a good combination as well. You can add a salad to any of the wraps for a dollar more as well. Many people here were here to get some work done and I would say that it's a great place for that for sure with a giant table out front with plenty of electrical outlets for using your laptop. There's also spots outside on the patio which is a great option when the weather is nice. I liked the vibe of the place, the food is good and it's a great time place to get stuff done so I would recommend it for sure. read more

Ok I've been here numerous times now. It is a good place to meet with a friend or to do some work. It does get really busy here so sometimes there isn't any room. The coffee here is really good. I like it better than Starbucks, which is a block away. The selection of food is decent. The sandwiches and muffins are good. They will bring the food to you if you're staying in to eat. The staff are friendly and service is great. The area is open and there is a lot of light that comes in since the patio is facing south. One thing to keep in mind if you plan to do some work, make sure your laptop is fully charged as the only outlets is at the long high table, which accommodates 10 people so there's 10 single plugs. The rest of the place, there are no outlets, not even along the wall or bench seating. You'd think there would be an outlet by the wall but there ain't any. read more

I've been a big fan of this location in particular ever since it opened. I love the architecture which, if a bit impractical, allows some light indoors during the long rainy months. The impracticality lies in the windows that face the sunset - during the summer months it can get very warm indoors, though if you don't mind bright sun in your eyes you can sit on the nifty angular outdoor seating areas. The coffee is occasionally perfect, but consistently good or great. They have soy and almond milk. I really enjoy their almond croissant and their custard pull-apart (be ready with napkins!). They have a few nice sandwiches too. The staff are excellent - very friendly, not pretentious, and they are quite efficient even during a rush. I've found them quite willing to assist those needing help. The interior is almost always really busy - it can be hard to get a seat between 10 and 1pm on a weekend. There's a long raised desk that's great for study groups and has outlets on either side. Most of the seating is single tables for two, though there are several against a banquette in the corner that could be pushed together for 4 or 6 people, as well as a grouping around a coffee table near the front. Exterior patio seating is nice but there's no shade from the sun and no place to tie your dog up in the shade. Also - the patios have a 6" step to negotiate and so aren't convenient for wheelchair users. read more

Well, what a delight to savour early morning coffee in JJ's Cambie Street location. All the south side windows were open to the cool morning air, the line up was short, the coffee hot and fresh! Breakfast was the fruit and nut pull-apart which was the texture of lovingly prepared dough - reminiscent of when I ate at a nunnery and the breads were stunning, with the explanation that they were made with love. So breakfast was heavenly! And this location is just lovely. Spacious. Big floor to ceiling windows, lots of light and facing the side street. A hit for me, and obviously for the folks in the neighbourhood as the place was rockin' in the early morn. Yum! read more

This coffee is rich and full-bodied and just the best. They have my favorite Americano. They even offer a deal when you refill a gift card and when you buy a pound of coffee. Great staff also. Very likeable joint. I haven't been to many JJ Beans but I really like the look and feel of this one, it's got a nice patio area, doors slide to the side for the summer and the occasional wind breezes right through. The place is definitely noisy and busy as it is on a busy street and everything is open to the outside world but it's got a solid architectural vibe. I ordered a cold coffee and stuck around for a while. They gave me a cup with coffee and some ice cubes in it, told me to grab some milk/cream/soy on the side and add the sugar. Fair enough, service was good, asked me how it was going. No complaints, I got a medium ice coffee for $3. It's probably really nice on a 15-20 degree day but it was 30 degrees the day I visited so the relative lack of wind and heat didn't quite make the cut for me on this day. 4 stars for having multiple vegan options! I was super confused about where your list of drinks was. The wall behind the til is completely empty. The menu is on a little board right up at the till, so it's really confusing if someone is at the til already- looks like there's no menu! I also wish there had been an offer to warm up our breakfast choices. I admittedly could have asked but I get nervous about asking too much, so ate my muffin cold. Ive always loved JJ Bean Coffee and when I finally moved near one, my days were complete. I go in and never care whether it's busy or not because they get us through so quickly. The staff treats me like a friend and even if the customer in front treats the staff poorly, not one of the baristas in this store took it out on the next customer on several occasions. I order my one pound bags and they're always super helpful with my products. I get the perfect brew at home every time (when I don't ave cruelly make it to the shop). Beans are consistent and you always get that extra zip in your step whether you brew your own at home or get a delicious mocha from the neighborhood store. Also, their iced almond milk mocha is the drink to get in the summer and winter. With their smooth chocolate and good quality almond milk, the drink is so comforting when you need a sweet treat. Don't know why cold is best but it is! Warm is good too (of course!) read more

Worst cafe for seating is the Cambie cafe. I'm a regular patron of JJ BEAN (5 years at the main st. store and now 3 years alternating between their Powell and Dunsmiur stores). JJ espresso beans r what I prefer to use in my own machine at home. I've been to every JJ store in Vancouver at some point but after the last 2 weekday afternoons this winter 2017-2018, Cambie is the last cafe I will go to. A sea of singletons on their laptops (and their empty coffee cups!), these customers occupy most of the seats and make no attempt to move if they r taking up 2 seater tables. I even went back twice the same afternoon to try and get a seat to only find the same people still sitting there!! Multiple people come in, walk around, and hover as they waited for a seat to open up. I highly suggest going to an alternative coffee shop if you are wanting to sit and enjoy a beverage and have conversation. Maybe they need signs or something to remind customers that the cafe is not a library?! The clientele, limited seating and high traffic make this cafe so very not enjoyable. I still love JJ but not this one! read more

Likes: Interestingly pleasant wooden decor, lots of natural light, fast and friendly counter service, consistently clean and tidy seating area and bathrooms, efficient placement of cream and sugar stations, good muffins and breakfast wraps. Good for grab-and-go. Dislikes: Despite a good grab-and-go experience it sucks to hang out there. Popular among yuppies and college kids, it feels very "trendy" for no apparent reason, like I'm in a gap ad. Extremely overrated and over crowded. I'm super glad this coffee shop opened up. It is absolutely gorgeous, especially with all the warm weather we've been having. I love sitting in here people watching out of the open windows as I sip my coconut water... Or masala chai tea.... This location is HUGE. There is no personality in the decor and the drink selection is standard just like all the other locations, however, they make up with the size of the coffee shop which makes it awesome for working on large projects. Because it is on the corner of Cambie/18th there is a large window that lets the sunshine in. I came here to get some tea and work on my art project. Barista was kinda nice but it wouldn't hurt if she actually smiled. They are free. Not much in terms of snack selections. read more

It does get extremely bright in here which may be a plus or a negative depending on whether or not you value avoiding depression over being able to read your laptop screen, which by the way will work only as long as your battery contains charge (there are only outlets on the tall table, sit anywhere else and you will have to return home to do any additional work). I'm not sure whether they couldn't afford to install more than 0 outlets anywhere along the walls in the entire cafe space or it was an artistic or business choice to flush old customers out after a few hours. I love JJBean but unfortunately they're still figuring things out at this location. I've been there 5 times and they have forgotten my order at least twice. They don't seem to handle busy periods too well. Coffee and muffins are great as usual. I will most likely go back due to proximity but do prefer other locations better. read more
