    A beautiful mural tribute

I really don't know how to say how overjoyed we are to see this place reopen. If you knew Jim... you knew he had a heart for people and especially his community. Not only that, he has always had the best pizza around that people drive from everywhere to have. So when you combine great pizza and a longtime resident/owner that never forgot your patronage, you have one of the best staple places in north Texas. So... what about now? Jim passed... soooo how's the food? ON point! Same as it was - but even better at the new location! More room, same great hospitality. Best buffet around! As as true to Jim's love for our military, there is a military discount. Show them some love! Enjoy the pictures... their pizza has been perfected since 1969.

    Sausage pizza and lasagne....

We decided to try Jim's after hearing raves from a number of McKinney natives. We arrived right at 5:25 (actually a couple minutes before start time for the buffet), and most of the pizza offerings on the buffet were already gone. The buffet offers salad, spaghetti with meat sauce, toast (possibly garlic), lasagne (I believe that's only on Fridays and Saturdays) and about 4-5 choices of pizza. They had pepperoni, cheese, sausage, and a "deluxe" version that had pepperoni, sausage, peppers, olives and onions, and a "dessert pizza". To their credit, they did restock pizza on the buffet fairly regularly, so we were able to sample each. There was only one server on duty, so I ended up just getting my drink refills myself. As for the food: - The pizza wasn't too bad, but to be honest I've had better. Being an extremely thin (like cracker-thin) crust, I think it's easy to overcook, and sitting on the buffet dries it out even more. Maybe extra thin crust just isn't my thing. - The spaghetti was also kinda dry, sitting in a pan. They might want to consider leaving it in water, or at least sprinkling a little water on it from time to time. The marinara meat sauce was actually pretty good, but the dry spaghetti diminished the taste. - I thought the lasagna was actually better than what I've had at places like Olive Garden. It had a real homemade taste to it, and endures well sitting in a pan on the buffet. - My wife tried the dessert pizza and was a little disappointed. It's basically crust with butter and sugar. Some cinnamon would've helped the taste. Summary: we enjoyed the fact that it was a buffet, and got to enjoy several varieties of pizza and pasta in one sitting. Not the greatest as some people have commented, but not terrible. Definitely try the lasagna! We'll probably be back when we get a hankerin' for a variety of pizzas.

My wife and I came here for a quick dinner. The pizza we order was fair and the lady server was nice. The person who took our order was good. We did like the one and only TV as it did not cause a distraction while talking. My wife did see a coach roach near the fountain machine which kinda grossed her out. Overall it was an okay experience.

I was excited to try this place! Where do I start. My pizza was cool. The crust was hard and gummy. I had a spinach, chicken, mushroom and onion pizza and it tasted SALTY! I am disappointed and I feel cheated. Definitely will not patron here again.

The food tastes fresh, and it's a step above the typical Asian buffets you find around the U.S. They have a wider selection of sushi, and it's actually quite good. The beef also stood out--juicy, savory, and flavorful. The interior of the restaurant is clean and elegantly decorated. One thing I didn't love was the smoky scent from the incense. I usually associate that with temples, so I didn't expect it in a dining setting, and it took away slightly from the experience for me. That said, this is still one of the few Asian buffet restaurants I genuinely like. I'd come back for the sushi, beef, and flan!

With that in mind, as far as buffets go, this place has everything you could want... And if you can't find something you want, well, you're just not looking hard enough. The Mongolian grill is the best I have seen in a Chinese buffet. The sushi selection is top notch. Everything is fresh...maybe with the exception of the crab on Christmas Day. Also, the dumpling options are plentiful and delicious. There is so much to choose from, you could come here every week for a year and have a different (really good and satisfying) meal each time. We've made two visits in a week. That says a lot to me.

Almost no more tables were available by six/seven pm. The booths and tables are very close in proximity so be prepared to be squeezing in and out of your seat when you return to the buffet for more. The buffet area is not very clean and the staff do not come often to sanitize from what I see. Plates are stacked high for the volume of guests they have and food is constantly replaced though! They have a few rows of cold food items including salads, slaws, and chilled seafood including squid and shrimp. Hot food items include anything from chicken wings, sesame balls, eggrolls, cream cheese rangoons, to soups, stir fried veggies, noodles, fried rice, beef and broccoli, sweet and sour chicken, kung pao chicken, and much more...you get the idea. However, a notable mention is their dim sum area. They have several types of buns, chicken feet, pork shumai, beef tripe, beef offal, beancurd rolls, and more. The quality of said items are very mid and cannot compare to an actual dim sum restaurant though I do appreciate the variety. The sushi bar has fried maki rolls, regular sushi rolls, as well as sashimi and sushi besides the seaweed salad, picked ginger, served with wasabi and soy sauce. These items are also plentiful but not exactly fresh and tasty if you know what I'm saying! Desserts include stale cakes, jello, pudding, watery soft serve ice cream from their machine, and chocolate fondue with fruit/marshmallow skewers. The price of the buffet varies like all other typical Chinese buffets, depending if its a weekday, weekend, lunch or dinner time, and whether or not its a holiday. They offer kids prices and senior discounts as well. The restroom was also ick. Overall, nothing really stood out to me at this buffet and I wouldn't come back again because there are so many better buffets at a similar price point. Unfortunately this has been one of the most disappointing Chinese buffets I've been to though both the variety and the service deserves a star...I wish I like it more.

One touch, and they gave in completely. No resistance. Just tender, juicy surrender. I leaned in, and suddenly it was just me and those ribs, no distractions, no dignity left. The kind of experience where you stop caring who's watching. Then the mac and cheese. Soft. Creamy. Rich in a way that feels almost too indulgent. It coats everything slowly, deliberately... like it knows exactly how to linger. Each bite deeper than the last. I didn't rush it. You don't rush something like that. The green beans surprised me. They had bite. Confidence. A little snap that kept things interesting--like a playful contrast to everything else melting around me. Not innocent. Not at all. And then... the tangy pork sauce. Sweet, smoky, just enough sharpness to make you react. I dipped once. Then again. Then I stopped pretending I had any self-control. It clung to everything in the best way--bold, unapologetic, unforgettable. By the time I thought I was completely undone... they handed me free banana pudding. Cool. Smooth. Soft in all the right ways. A gentle finish after everything that came before. I slowed down. Let it linger. Didn't want it to end. I left full... flushed... slightly overwhelmed. Hutchins isn't just BBQ. It's an experience you feel in your whole body.

No hot food was being restocked, and teppanyaki and hot pot were no longer options. The sushi selection was mostly empty too. For clarification, they don't close until 9:00. The food we did get tasted okay, but nothing stood out or made me want to rush back. On the bright side, the restaurant and restrooms were clean, so at least that part was solid. Overall, it felt less like an all you can eat experience and more like "a you should have gotten there an hour earlier experience." Perhaps my least favorite part of the evening was the relentless ringing of bellhop bells behind both the hot food and sushi counters. They clanged nonstop to summon servers, turning the entire dining experience into an 80s montage where the "Better Off Dead" paperboy keeps circling your table on his bike, dead-eyed, ringing his bell, demanding his two dollars. This is a very generous three stars, given with kindness and lowered expectations.
