I visited this Jimbo's on Sunday. It's nice store with lots of options. But talk about expensive! $4.99 a lb for a nectarine?! That's nuts! I got a couple of their gluten free pumpkin zucchini muffins. The flavor was good but it was extremely dry to the extent that it turned into sawdust in my mouth. They are trash bound at $2.50 a piece. I also got some of their mac n cheese. The Mac itself was really bland and the bread crumbs on top look nice but add no flavor to the mix. In fact I scraped them off. This honestly tasted like creamy noodles. No cheese flavor at all. Unfortunately, this is my first and last visit. I'm sorry I cheated on you Frazier Farms! Lol read more

Jimbos is pretty top notch if you ask me. IMHO, they have the best organic produce department in the business and it comes with a fairly reasonable price tag. They have an awesome selection of Juice and other great organic items. But what really sets this place aside from most other supermarkets is their hot food selection. This is pretty much the quintessential place to grab a quick meal that is home cooked and very well prepared. I like making a stop here once in a while for some of the goodies you just don't find at the regular grocery store. Came here on lunch to grab a sandwich/wrap from the counter. This was during a normal lunch hour- there were multiple people behind the counter but only one making sandwiches. I placed my order, the woman *did* warn me there were 4 orders in front of me. 15 minutes later she's still on other orders. I know this stuff takes time and patience is hard this time of year but I'd recommend on the lunch hour having more than one person making sandwiches. I walked out without lunch because the wait was painful and there seemed to be no regard to get the customers taken care of with any sense of haste. Another woman waited at least 5 minutes and didn't once get acknowledged by an employee to tAke her order. What is good about this location of Jimbo's is that one can pick up lingerie at Victoria's Secret and a nice dress from Anthropologie in one swoop. The juice bar is the reason why I go to Jimbo's. I have lived in Encinitas for over 20 years and have shopped all of the healthy grocery stores in the area and they all have their strengths but I feel like Jimbo's gets it the most right. The produce and the organic bulk foods selection is excellent. The meat and cheese departments have a great selection and the bakery and deli always have something tasty to offer whether you are Vegan or not. It is great that there are so many organic options. I personally love the soup selections. Above all I have always appreciated the staff in all of these departments and at the register that seek to help in a truly positive and upbeat way. I was looking for Feta cheese the other day and the staff that noticed that I was looking took me across the store to show me where there were more selections and then recommended one that he liked. As you can see, I've been a loyal customer of Jimbo's for YEARS! At this location, since they opened. So, this review pains me to write but it's completely necessary. In the past year, we've noticed their customer service has been severely lacking. Mostly, with the cashiers as there's been a lot of turn-over. I still tend to get great service from the butchers. We have done all of our grocery shopping here for years and spend anywhere from $200-300/week. During the Easter, Thanksgiving or Christmas holidays when I buy my turkey and prime rib, and any other protein we decided to serve--you can easily add $500 to my monthly bills for our family gatherings. They get really good business from us. Or at least, they used to. We went in twice in the last week. I went in to get some fresh fish and misc. items...cashier was fine. The same cashier the few weeks prior was absolutely rude and didn't say a word to me during the entire transaction. This time, she was friendly. I was pleased and hopeful. My hubby went in the other day to buy coffee beans and came home and told me...search for this brand of coffee online. If this is the only thing we're going to Jimbo's for, I'd rather buy it elsewhere. I'm done with them! Admittedly, I tend to get annoyed rather easily with poor customer service. However, it takes A LOT for him to get fired up and fed up. With the new Sprouts in Bressi Ranch, I've been doing ALL of my shopping there and only coming to Jimbo's when was absolutely necessary. If you saw my reviews of the Sprouts in San Marcos and Carlsbad (La Costa), it's obvious I preferred Jimbo's. This shift is HUGE for me and took a lot for me to make the leap. Despite my attempts to alert management of the poor experiences we've received here, it seems it's systemic. Some (not all) of their employees just aren't from the old Jimbo's culture that we've loved all these years. I still go to the Del Mar location if we're in that area and continue to get great service there. For some reason, this one in Carlsbad...is terrible and it's truly unfortunate because they are better than this. They really are. Everyone knows about the ridiculous prices, $1-2 more per item than Sprouts. I gave them an extra star because their selection isn't bad. The worse thing about this place is the food. Bought chicken, mashed potatoes, and corn. The chicken was bathed in paprika, the corn didn't have any taste and the mashed potatoes were inedible. How do you screw up mashed potatoes? They didn't taste like potatoes which makes me believe they used powdered. Overpriced and disgusting. Management should be ashamed of themselves Unfortunately we also got turkey meatloaf for dinner. Jimbos is like the little health food super that COULD! Flap, flap, those crazy ears! Fly little elephant, fly! Oh wait no, that's Dumbo. OK, where was I? Oh yes, Jimbos. Really great health food supermarket located in the Calle Barcelona shopping complex. Like another Yelper said, it's like a mini Whole Foods with similar lay-out and sometimes higher prices. The produce people here are AWESOME! They maintain a truly brilliant selection of the finest organic fruits and vegetables. There're so fresh and crisp that you feel like imitating that original Iron Chef host who takes a bite out of a bell pepper and smiles! The rest of the store has a WAY decent selection of just about everything, from vitamins to my favorite sprouted wheat breads. I really DIG their grab-n-go deli section! It's terrific to be able to pick up healthy salads, lunch and dinner plates, meza platters, and vegetarian items such as their yummy sesame tofu drops and rice pudding. What's also COOL is their juice and smoothie counter. What's NOT COOL are the people who park their cars in the "Handicapped" parking spaces in front to run in and do some quick shopping. Having spent the better part of last year in a wheelchair and crutches after having my leg reconstructed, it sucked having to hobble from the far end of the lot just because some idiot did not want their Brabus dinged. Prices are a bit high, but I enjoy shopping local and the most of the fruit and veggies are from right here in San Diego. Tasty meat and bakery items, large store, clean and well stocked with a great selection of products you can't find at chain stores. I used to go to the one in Escondido years ago and always loved this place, especially for the produce! Now, I come to this location because it's by my work. After work, I pick up a few things from this place and head home to start my creation. The prices are great (better than Whole Foods), lots of organic options (I try to cook organic as much as I can), AND the best part is there's some ready-made dishes for you to grab and go to take home and enjoy, no fuss! You'll find fresh fruits and vegetables piled high in neat (somewhat glorious) displays. Need lunch? Swing to the left of the store and check out the deli. So many choices! Gluten free, vegan and vegetarian options that are all clearly labeled - and they taste amazing. One of my recent favorites was a combination of cajun tempe, steamed veggies and sauteed portabella mushrooms. Jimbos is amazing. It is probably my favorite grocery store ever. The entire store is almost all local and organic and non gmo which is amazing! The produce is so fresh and always in season. They have the best natural, local , organic selection of items out of all of the grocery stores in San Diego. The prices are reasonable being that the items are local and organic. I usually cook gluten/dairy free/vegan at home and they have so many great options here. They also get new items in all of the time which I love! I always find what I'm looking for. They also have a great prepared food section and make fresh juices as well. The store is always very clean and the associates are super friendly and very helpful. Being born and raised in San Diego I guess you could say I'm a local through and through and being so I try and support my people. We have everything you need right here, near perfect micro climate, rich soil, farm land to the east and an oceans bounty at our fingertips. What makes Jimbo's special is their local, just like me. Not some healthfood superstore giant like Wholefoods charging arms and legs for organic produce. It's not just the pricing they definitely emphasis the organic over local and there is a time and place for that, but feeding a healthy consumer at the price of the planet and others is no victory at all. Supporting your fellow man and minimizing the effect on the planet sounds a lot cleaner doesn't it. Produce is fresh, local and priced well for the area. Health, packaged items are in the middle, but what I really like are the local companies who've made it on the shelves. Meat department could be bigger and their seafood department is tiny. They have a good kitchen heavy more on sides than bakeries like most stores. Parking is generally ok, but the connection to the Forum which draws people also congests people trying to just shop for their groceries. Though no juice bar they carry Suja and Blueprint Juices, both extremely high quality, cold pressed, organic, mosty unfiltered and unpasteurized. It's not as large in appearance, but the only place it's crowded is the registers and the bulk items. I wish the prices were more along the lines of Frazier Farms or Sprouts than Whole Foods, but the concept makes more sense and is kind of the Encinitas equivalent to Frazier. read more

I'd give Jimbo's 20 stars for its presentation and how great their produce selection is, along w the abundance of excellent brands to choose from. However, my reason for 3 stars is bc they use sunflower oil in most all of their pre-made deli items, like their vegan coleslaw I love. I'm not quite sure why they cut corners and don't use avocado or olive oil for these items? Sure, the oils I mentioned are a bit pricier, but so are their prices! I don't like cheaply used oils in my food and won't be back until they change it up to be as healthy as they claim. I've written corporate for our Encinitas store (twice) and not one reply. Super disappointed and needed to post in order for them to understand it's not ok to cut corners and use products that affect someone's health bc they don't want to spend the money on making a truly healthy product. read more

Great service every time! We come here weekly (if not twice a week). The produce is always super fresh and the staff goes out of their way to offer help. The deli sandwiches are always very fresh and flavorful. Compared to somewhere like Whole Foods, you get better quality and much better prices. The only complaint is that there is no where to put your cart out in the parking lot. read more

kudos to Jimbo's for providing organic food and healthy products! I moved to north San Diego County 3+ years ago, leaving my beloved food co-op. Finding Jimbo's has been a life saver because I don't eat food laden with pesticides or GMO's and I prefer to support local, organic farmers whenever I can. Jimbo's gets that and their customer service has been great. When something is wrong, they make an effort to make it right - the way a business that cares about customers should do. Last visited Sat 3/28/20. DISCLAIMER: Following is related to current conditions re COVID19 and about fellow shoppers, the latter of which is not a reflection on Jimbos. Dear Jimbos: You are trying but need to up your game during this COVID19 crises. It's really great that you are limiting number of customers at a time and have someone at the door keeping count. But why did you close off the other exit point and have o ly 1 open for both entrance and exit? I get it--to keep count. But now we're all potentially getting too close to one another since the movement of customers entrring/exiting is not being controlled. I would recommend considering one door for entrance only and one for exit. Also the tape on the floor to somehow manage queueing up at the check out is not clear at all. AND why in the world do you have open adjacent check stands that make it impossible for customers to keep their distance from one another--not even 3 ft let alone 6 ft. Open every other one!! Numbers 1, 3, 5. Not 1,3,4,5. And to all customers: yes, we all want to hurry to limit our time of potential exposure but you're hurrying past others way too close, you're moving in too close so you can grab what you need and hurry outta there. Be patient. KEEP YOUR DISTANCE. And I loved when I exited the store how another customer closed in on me from behind to share what he thought was a clever remark about being out shopping...dude, stay away!! read more

Wish this store was closer to me. I drive an hour to shop here! Other health food grocery stores and even regular grocery stores could learn quite a bit from Jimbos. Firstly, they are up to date on the buzz in the organic world so to speak. From Bone broth to juices to new dishes they have it all. The staff is very nice here and very patient and helpful which is lacking in so many businesses today. Their prepared foods in the deli are top notch, fresh, organic and delicious. They have different dishes instead of the same old run of the mill items the other stores have. Produce is top notch, the store is clean, well stocked and just a great place to shop. I was literally chastised by an employee at the checkout for not answering him loudly enough when he asked me if I wanted a bag. After saying "oh, I'm sorry, yes please" he proceeded to mimic me by mumbling rude nonsense at me... I'm not kidding. He actually attempted to "shame me" by sinking to the level of a toddler. I don't know, buddy. Maybe it was because I had just gotten off of a seriously long flight and was tired. Maybe it was because I was carrying a baby and I didn't want to yell in her ear. Maybe it was just a simple auditory level miscommunication- they happen all the time between regular people and are usually handled with a little more civility. One can only wonder why you'd choose this supermarket over the cheaper, friendlier and superiorly stocked Sprouts that is not far down the road. What Jimbo's doesn't get is premium prices should get you premium service. But they are no better than your average grocery store and in a lot of ways have worse service. Don't even bother trying to order anything from behind the counter. You will be ignored until you end up walking away. Pretty good stuff! Always looking for a place to get healthy, quick food. Too often it's very difficult. This place has a great selection of healthy, tasty, good quality foods that are hot or cold. Plenty of sandwich options, entree options, soups, salads, and a lot of nice side dishes (quinoa, tofu, veggies, etc). Service is also on point. I had like 9 people ask if I've been helped. This is the BEST supermarket for organic produce and healthy options. If you are someone that wants quality and natural ingredients/food go to this store. They also have an awesome juice bar that I buy juice from every week. If you are looking for something for lunch they also have a great lunch selection. They sell Raw dairy if you're into that kinda thing. They sell Pragers which is the best locally sourced bread (made in Carlsbad) - I seriously cant leave the store without ripping off a hunk of my baguette that's waiting in the cart. Also try the El Napalito salsa and hot carrots (located near the juice bar) its the best salsa that Encinitas has to offer. We ordered our Thanksgiving turkey from Jimbo's this year. The main attraction--precooked organic Diestel turkey. I've always thought turkey was pretty blah, meat tastes okay, but pretty much whatever. But this turkey changed everything. The meat itself tastes amazing, like nothing I've ever had. Perfect texture and moisture, easy to heat up, no guesswork. Meal sides were meh, so next year it'll just be the turkey. Diestel is a small family farm here in CA and they are certainly doing something right (maybe everything)! Otherwise, this Jimbo's has a fab supplement section, the all organic produce is the best-tasting, and the employees are helpful and friendly. read more

Jimbos has maybe gone down hill a bit . I always was excited to go to jimbos when I visit "home". First, I was surprised I could only find frozen gluten free bread, no big deal though. The vegan chocolate chip cookies which were bakery made and packaged for almost $8 a box looked so good. Sadly they were so dry and crumbly almost inedible. They should have been tossed . The deli section was sad maybe because of covid ? and last this is not new but the bathrooms are worse than a gas station. This is supposed to be upscale Grocer and the bathroom is DISGUSTING.
