Receipt for what they say they did in 5 minutes

I went for the first time this morning for a basic oil change. I took a picture ofvmy dashboard and pulled my car around and was taken to lobby. Three minutes later Serh calls me to the counter with my filters out. Trying to uosell services and the replacement of filters for $50. I told him I just want the oil change. I go sit where I can see my car. One guy did a really quick vacuum and I see 3 different guys at the car but and on computers. Less than 5 minutes later, my car is pulled out. Seth tells me it's $51.55 and I signed the receipt. I stans at the desk looking over the receipt marveling at all they claim to have done in 5 minutes. I got in my car and instantly there's a warning signal and another light I've never seen before. I pull back around, Seth comes over, i show him the picture of my dash right before they touched it and the dash now. He says well your light must have blown but thats not on us. I question, while videoing, how can my dash go from nothing lit up to 5 minutes later, 2 signals, he says nothing on our oil change did that, but we can change your bulb for $30. I told him im not about to pay for something that wasn't there before i came to you. And i do not believe you changed my oil or did anything else you claimed in 5 minutes. He said we are trained to work fast! I left after taking a detailed video of our conversation, his hands shaking the entire time with my warning signals. I pulled over 10 minutes later and checked the dipstick, the oil is exactly where it was when i checked 2 days earlier. Then I'm ,driving about 15 minutes later and theres a wierd fan sound that is new. It sounds like im using my hair dryer when i step on the gas. I will never solicit this place ir recommend. I AM FILING A LAWSUIT AGAINST JIFFY LUBE!!!!

Good place for a reliable and relatively inexpensive oil change. Employees are friendly and helpful. Pretty efficient as well.

Ben took my call and kept me calm and focused while we tried to figure out what exactly was going on with my suv. After a few minutes on the phone we thought it was best to have it towed to the nearest shop a few miles away (by the way, this was an evening/after hours call). Ben helped get me a tow and offered to send me a car to be driven home. I opted to walk down the street to a local restaurant to take advantage of my stranded situation (that's an entirely different story). Back to my review. The next morning the Nielsen team helped me understand what was going on with my suv, the options available to me, and provided a detailed break down of the costs associated with the five years of neglect and work needed to be sone to my suv. The number was a big number but there is a cost associated with having skilled technicians on staff to do the work and do it right. I was ok with this and they were kind enough to work with me on the price. Through the entire process, Ben and his team kept me in the loop at all stages of the service, until my car suv was ready for pick up. I recommend anyone looking for a hard-working, honest team to service your car or SUV to look no further than Ben Nielsen at any of his locations. My wife and I often use one of their locations in Alexandria on Colvin street because it's closer to home, but when my Audi broke down, skyline became the best option. There's no financial incentive for me to give this review only the gratitude, gratefulness, and my overall desire to thank the team for what they did. Thank you Ben and the Skyline team!

Sometimes the work is fine and sometimes its not. Too often I drive out with a new problem that I did not have before. A year ago this happened with the Steering Gear Box, which started making a grinding noise as soon as I left the lot. I had to bring it back and pay for a new one. Today, I brought it in for a few minor issues and an inspection and oil change. I also asked them to look at the rear end because I was sometimes experiencing a light "clunk" when I would drive over bumps. They told me the rear differential was making that noise. It seemed odd to me that the rear differential would be the cause. So I told them it was not a big enough issue at the moment to justify $3,000 for a new rear differential. I drove it home and - voila - the rear differential is now making a grinding noise (it was not before). The clunk is still there, but that is not on them. I am not going back because I never know if I am going to drive out with more problems than I came in with.

He came out right away to take and look and told me my options. My car was back on the road in less than 45 mins with no appt. The car was taken into the garage within 10 minutes of the appointment time which I was pleased. The job took a little longer than the provided time estimate. Which happens at most shops. My issues began at checkout when I was provided the invoice and noticed a $350 tire plan. I asked the customer service person if he was going to let me know that he added the protection plan. The response, "Oh I thought I mentioned it". Typical used car sales man tactic. Then suddenly the car needed an alignment. The rep threw down on the counter and alleged document which showed the tires out of alignment; however, he didn't even try and explain what the form said just began to tell me I needed it. I was still aggravated about the protection plan, so I told them to give me the keys and I drove away. The car drove perfect and didn't need an immediate alignment like he tried to upsell me. I don't mind the upsell if it is done in a professional manner. This felt shady and I wasn't sure I believed him. The new tires are great and I am happy with the installation. If you decide to go here pay close attention to the final invoice.

One of their mechanics was kind enough to just take a listen and see what he could make of it, free-of-charge. When I brought it back for a more thorough diagnosis, they identified the problem (timing belt rubbing slightly on something due to tolerances that are too tight; addressed in a manufacturer's technical service bulletin from 15 years ago). It would have been a big job and a bundle of money to fully resolve the issue. Ultimately they (Brent) advised me to just let it go and keep an eye on it because it's not a "catastrophic" issue. Honest and much appreciated advice. That said, I also had another less satisfactory experience before this. Had a slow leak in a tire, so brought it in for inspection. They had a young (teen-aged) and probably less experienced mechanic patch the tire for me. He kept looking to the older mechanics for guidance, which didn't instill a lot of confidence. Sure enough, the patch ended up failing while I was on the highway. In the end, I had to replace the tire. Upon inspecting the old tire, the folks at the tire shop told me that the puncture wasn't close enough to the middle of the contact patch, but rather on the outer part of the tread, too close to the sidewall to be safe, which meant that it should've been immediately replaced, rather than patched. So, just make sure that Brent and/or one of their more senior, certified mechanics is taking care of things and you should be good!

But they could have explained that to me rather than just show me and leave me to guess whether it was necessary or they were trying to upsell me. Still, the staff were nice enough and got me in and out of there quickly. They weren't super attentive but who cares, they got the job done and that's what matters. They'll do the oil change quickly as well as other needed services like replacing a broken light. They'll often encourage you to get extra services like replacing wiper brushes or engine air filter but not unless you need them. And they're quick and not super expensive. Plus you get to stay in your car rather than wait in a crowded waiting room during COVID. Would highly recommend.

They left a light bulb on the floor from their prior vehicle which I drove over when I was guided into the bay by their worker, smashing it under my left front tire. After he scolded the worker for leaving it on the floor, I questioned the safety of my tire. I was told it the bulb was plastic and for me not to worry about it. Then the high pressure salesman came at me to add the suggested transmission fluid change for $200+ (down to $180'ish with his discount code). I told him no, the dealer cost for the Honda 25k service was $225 and included the oil change, transmission fluid change and tire rotation. He told me multiple times that I was wrong, telling me I must have misunderstood the dealer. I found that to be VERY disrespectful to me as a woman. I was at the Honda dealer and received a written quote. I know it was right bc I had the convo with them personally. I have used Valvoline for years on multiple vehicles in two states. I'm new to Alexandria however after this treatment l, I will NOT be returning to Duke street or maybe even to Valvoline for that matter. Very poor customer shaming, hard sell techniques and safety compliance. Get your oil changed somewhere else.
