Oil spilled all over the exhaust manifold
Chris C.

Went in today at 6:30 pm (roughly). They got me in and out fast. On the way home I notice a bad burning smell and as I get closer to home it got worst and smoke started coming out from under the hood. I pulled over and shut the car down. Popped the hood and found oil all over the top, front, and passenger side of the engine. It's was coating even the fan casing and some on the radiator, what I think is the alternator and most of the exhaust manifold. Honestly I was really worried it was going to catch on fire. The scary part and worst part was it filled my interior with burning oil smoke and fumes. I had planned on going to an event at 7pm but it took me until almost 9pm to get to some place I could successfully clean up the mess they made. I live in an apartment and have zero access to anything I need to deal with the type of mess that they made. I know accidents happen, but come on. These guys obviously knew what they did (their oily hand prints are literally on the top of my engine ). Why not take the time to clean it up. This was not a small accidentally over flow of a "splash" of oil. It was a lot of oil and could have caused a fire given how much was on all of the components and exhaust manifold. Very disappointed. Use at your own risk.

Typical scam shop, where they try to oversell stuff. Fluids were not even checked, even though they said they were.

I knew it was the kind of establishment that took the job seriously and who maintained clear communication with their customers, listening to them, understanding their needs, even if it's something small, or on a larger scale. At one point, I took in a new headlight control, one that would allow me to have auto off and on for my headlights, which my current vehicle did not have. I had pre-purchased this, because it was a custom control. I brought in my purchase, and asked if it was OK to request just the shop hours entailed in installing it. They said yes, with the caveat that they were not the ones who researched it or purchased it so if it turns out that it didn't fit, or it didn't work, then they would let me know, and we'd move on from there. (For what it's worth, it installed perfectly, and works perfectly. Just what I asked for.) That's just one example of the consideration extended to their clients. Which also extends to offering loaner vehicles when and if needed. I have been to many auto shops in the past. And I have had interactions with many shop owners, and maintenance crew. And for every time I did that I came in with a bit of hyper awareness, because I am a woman, and I know how we can be treated and how some shops like to add on, mentioning scary things that could happen to the vehicle and that "we need to take care of right away." I have never felt that during any of our interactions. They have always shown me the entire worksheet, along with estimated costs for each line item. And if any questions, always took the time to answer them. In some cases, I said, if I could only do two things right now, what are the two primary things that should be covered, and they had no problems in explaining these are the two most important for now, to keep your vehicle in good standing. But be aware and be thinking about taking care of these other things. And that's it. No pressure, just pure explanation and experienced recommendations. I cannot recommend the experience, customer service levels, and the quality of work offered by Westside Automotive highly enough.

I've trusted this auto repair shop for years with all of our family's cars, but this last visit was…read morethe worst experience we've ever had. My mom brought her car in because it was hesitating to accelerate past 50 mph. After paying $189 for a diagnostic service, the mechanic first said the engine had failed and even gave her a quote for a full engine replacement. Later, the story changed -- first to a catalytic converter issue and then again to something else. When she picked up the car, it was in worse condition than before. It wouldn't go over 10 mph, and they admitted they already knew it was running that way but still let her drive it into traffic without warning her. The only reason they looked at the car again was because it came back in such bad shape. They were combative when we asked questions, and the engine cover wasn't even secured afterward. This used to be a shop we trusted, but the lack of accountability, inconsistent diagnostics, and disregard for safety were unacceptable. If you're looking for honest mechanics and reliable diagnostics, I would strongly suggest taking your vehicle elsewhere.

I have a Ram TRX and had purchased a pair of Flowmaster Outlaw mufflers myself on Amazon. I found some that were returns/like-new for a great price, so I brought them in and had Affordable Muffler remove the factory mufflers, fit the Flowmasters into the existing exhaust, and weld everything back together. They did a great job. The welds look clean, everything was installed nicely, and I'm extremely happy with how the TRX sounds. I was happy enough with their work that some friends with TRXs ended up going there and having the same thing done. My one warning is to be VERY clear about the price before they start. I talked to the guy three different times and somehow got three different prices. Ultimately, I paid the price we had agreed on, so there wasn't a problem. I don't think he was trying to be sketchy--it felt more like a small-business owner negotiating and trying to make a deal--but I'd definitely recommend confirming the final price before they start working. It's a small operation, basically a guy and his helper in an area with several automotive repair businesses. Don't expect a fancy performance shop, but that's also not what I needed. For a straightforward job like mine--cutting out the existing mufflers and welding in replacements--I would absolutely go back. If I were doing a complete custom exhaust system, I'd personally go to a dedicated performance shop that specializes in designing and building full exhaust systems. For what I asked Affordable Muffler to do, though, they did it very well. Good-looking welds, good installation, and my TRX sounds fantastic with the Flowmaster Outlaws. Just make sure everyone is on the same page about the price before the work starts.
