I can't say enough about Ritchie and the crew at Kicking Horse I originally called to find out the…read morecost on an engine rebuild. on my 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4.7 and they recommended a remanufactured engine which would eliminate the knowing weak points of the 4.7 from the start I got nothing but fair pricing and straight answers so when I was comfortable, I added more work like engine mounts, torque converter, fuel pump new radiator and list goes on but when all the work was finished, they had completely saved my beloved jeep and its up and driving again I can't thank them enough. if you're looking for a shop that can deliver a turnkey project with honesty look no further because they took very good care of my jeep and its back on the road and I will be a returning customer without a doubt.

As there are normally hidden charges and unexpected charges on near everything these days,...I make…read morea specific point of asking the total cost prior to getting any work done. When they tell me the cost I ask again,...."are there are any other hidden costs of charges and every time they say "no", that is the price. I get the work done. And exactly on cue the bill comes in with 2 other additional charges before taxes. I asked for "TOTAL COST". And the total cost is not what they say it is. Then use taxes as an excuse for not telling u the real price. Yes we have to pay taxes and extortion fees but why do they not tell u about extra cost for oil when they know exactly what the car takes,...and why do they not tell u of the environ fee,...and why do they not tell u the total cost which should include the taxes?? When u ask for the TOTAL charge I very much resent this and especially as when I inquired about this was met with kinda snarky/fed up look with a bold reply to crush my asking. His face completely changed. This was from the native guy who I believe overlooks the operation or perhaps a supervisor. and bowled over reply. Guy who did the actual oil change was great but I will not return. So typical to conveniently leave out these extra charges to get u to get the work done with them,...then there is no turning back. They depend on this. Booooooooooo

Booked winter tire change appt on Sep 23 for service on Oct 1 at Kal Tire Duncan. Sep 30 received…read morea call from Kal Tire saying that the wheels I had in storage had not been transported from the Nanaimo shop where storages are apparently kept. This being the case I was rescheduled to Oct 3. On October 5 - a day after the wheels had finally arrived in Duncan, I waited 2 hours for my car to be ready despite the knowledge that I had already been inconvenienced. When the service technician brought the car back 5o me the first time, he noticed that the front office had not indicated that there were locking bolts sitting on the front seat that needed to be used. The service technician then took the car back on the hoist to put the correct bolts on. This took another 30 min - the technician blamed front office staff for not writing on the work order that the bolts were sitting there on the passenger seat. Now I understand that sometimes staff doesn't show up and that can cause delays but shouldn't the customer be called to advise there may be an extreme wait? I am not impressed.

I originally went to this shop mainly for tires, as their pricing on all-weather tires was very…read moregood. I was also dealing with a front driver-side noise at the time. I was told the CV axle just needed to be reseated and that it was fine, which saved me money. However, after the tires were installed, a different noise started right away. I brought it back twice. On the first visit, I mentioned the dust shield and was told it was adjusted, but the noise was still there. On the second visit, I was told the issue was caused by the CV axle coming out and damaging the front wheel bearing, and that the bearing needed to be replaced. Based on the inspection report showing no wheel bearing play and the way the noise behaved, this didn't fully line up. I was able to reduce the noise significantly myself by adjusting the dust shield, and now it is almost completely gone and quiet at highway speeds. For peace of mind, I had it checked by another shop, and they confirmed that the front wheel bearing is not damaged and does not need replacement. I also requested a follow-up call to discuss things further but did not receive one. Overall, the tire pricing and some of the maintenance work were good, but I would have liked a more accurate diagnosis and better follow-up communication. Because of this experience, I won't be a returning customer.

They do not stand behind their work, once they've taken your money you're on your own. I had full brakes, rotors and calipers replaced in July 2025 at a cost of nearly $3000. By May 2026 everything felt just like it did prior to having it all replaced. They tried to sell me on a brake servicing to resolve the issue at a cost of $300 only 10 months after. After weeks of trying to contact the manager then the owner then corporate nothing was resolved. It has now been 14 months since they were replaced and the car is squealing, shimmying and sounds so bad it's embarrassing. Save yourself the stress, money and potential danger to your family in your vehicle by NOT going here.
