Had oil change, tire change and AC check booked for 3 pm today several days ago. Showed up told that they were busy ok no problem will not be done until the closing at 5:30. Spent 1.5 hours out at restaurant. Phoned at at 4:30 as was told they would call if AC issues told vehicle not on the line yet. Will be end of day. They called at around 5:00 pm to ask if I could leave the vehicle overnight as too busy. I told them no. I arrived back at Midas and told them how they had very poor customer service and could have told me earlier. The gentleman told me the appointment time is just a drop off time and does not mean will be worked on at that time. I was expecting my vehicle would be finished by closing. I told them it was very poor customer service and a waste of my day for nothing. I will never go back to Midas again after being a customer for years. read more

I'm reading some of these reviews and laughing... especially the most recent ones. (John, I was there when you went off on Jaz and stormed out.) My van got towed to Midas on May 1st after throwing a transmission code. I was supposed to have an extended warranty, so I wasn't too worried. Jasmine was AMAZING going back and forth with the (useless) warranty company... (ps, AvantaGuard SUCKS) and took it to the management level to try and get them to cover the repair. Sadly, they clung to their loophole, and I was facing a very large bill while completely broke. Jasmine didn't give up. She met with the owner and together they went over every detail of my file including past services. thats when they discovered that on my routine transmission service back in October I purchased a Valvoline service kit which included a transmission warranty!!! Again, through persistence and tenacity, Jasmine advocated for me and was finally able to call me with good news! the warranty was covered. I know have a kick as remand transmission with a 3 year manufacture warranty, and another Valvoline warranty. This was a LONG process only because she was trying so hard to get answers... which meant she had to wait on others to call her back. I also made it clear that I would rather it take time and see if it could be covered as I was broke and needed some extra time to come up with the cash if it wasn't. I'm sorry that others have had bad experiences. But I've been with Midas for over 3 years now first with my truck and now with my van. I've seen 3 different office managers and 2 service managers and have never experienced anything other than the best service with the right amount of "spice". The only bad thing about the van being done is I don't have a viable excuse to drop in every other day! It was still an expensive repair, but I did phone around for quotes just to see and at the end of the day, it was comparable to all other reputable transmission places. read more

PSA - MIDAS MECHANICS & MANAGEMENT ARE SCAMMERS I'll start by saying, Midas franchise (Duncan, Nanaimo, Colwood & Courtenay), Operations Manager paid the $2324.85 Ford bill to fix the car after the mechanic's in Duncan (Steve?), completely botched a repair then tried to hide it with silicone....and the incompetent store manager (Jasmine Sanchez) who backed him. Daughter took her car into Midas may9th to have a water leak investigated. $1100 later she had a new water pump...and a new check engine light. She had to take it back the next day to get the code and was told she needed a camshaft sensor (they would warranty the replacement). Part was ordered and booked in for may 20th for a 'couple hour' replacement. 6 hrs later husband went to check out what was taking so long and was told they now needed the proper 'tool' to set the timing and it would take a day or so to get it. May 23 I went into the Midas office to inquire...it had been 4 days and no update. I was told they'd broken the oil pick-up tube. A whole drama ensued with ms. Sanchez over getting a rental, which we did get after I repeatedly requested her bosses name (never got it) Daughter went in may 27 to check status and the mechanic'Steve' corners her on her way out and tells her they knew the oil tube was cracked when they did the pump and that they were fixing it when they didn't have to', in an attempt to intimidate her, knowing full well they'd messed up and couldn't fix there mistakes. May 30 got the car back with Ms Sanchez advising us 'car perfect, run's fabulous, my mechanics the best' we just can't clear the check engine light' and that we could take the car and get out. More drama ensues because Ms. Sanchez is a piece of garage and I've never had such a horrific experience EVER, in commerce. Car barely started and it was all we could do to limp it to Island Ford. They booked it in but couldn't look at it until June 11, when they notified us the sabotage the Midas mechanic did (broke & stripped the timing plug and then covered it in silicone) and tried to hide. Midas franchise head office (colwood) was sent the report from Ford that they couldn't deny and paid the bill. Zero apologies for 5 weeks of car drama and loss of use. HUGE shout out to Island Ford, and Natasha Grey, service advisor. They went above and beyond and kept us informed the whole time. But, I will never ever forget what utter pieces of shit the staff are at Midas and I'll never not back my kids when they're being scammed. On May 26, around 8:30 AM, I met and spoke with the manager of Duncan Midas. I reported that the motor was rocking on start-up. I was assured that they would help. I asked to speak with the shop's mechanic to watch the motor as I started it. He saw it rocking. The car was driven into the shop, where the mechanic asked his co-worker to start it while we watched it again. I was told that a motor mount needed replacing to which I agreed. I took a cab home. I sent an email to the manager at 12 noon to hold off on the repair, and went and asked to speak with the mechanic again. Other than putting the car up on the hoist no work had been done. He pointed to something which I thought might be the mount. I was told it was cracked and should be replaced. Island Ford staff reported the mount can't be seen from below. It sits up top and the battery must be removed to examine it. I then spoke with the Midas manager again and asked what the response would be if the problem persisted after the new mount was installed. I was told that they would remove it, replace it with the existing mount which they would save, and refund my money. I instructed the manager to install a Ford OEM part, and said I would send a link explaining the reason I didn't want an after-market mount installed. I went home and sent the link. I have the email saved. An after-market mount was installed. You might wonder why I didn't ask for the commitment in writing but, if you'd read the first two messages I received, both brimming with sincerity and empathy: "Good Morning John. My apologies, I am just having an opportunity to catch up on these now. This is truly puzzling and of course I am empathetic to your situation. We will honour what we said we would, and I would like to make that happen for you as soon as possible. " you might ask how I could NOT trust this woman, who was even more sincere in person. I was asked twice to write a review and was sent the same link each time. I've saved the messages and links: After reading the reviews below it becomes clear why she was anxious to receive a positive one. It's also clear why her attitude shifted so dramatically when she didn't get one. Imagine my surprise when I heard the commitment would not be "honoured", despite her assurance. I went back after the repair had been done, paid $504.51, drove home and parked the car. The next day I started it up and it was obvious the problem had not been fixed. I sent an email to the manager commenting that the vibrations (which were a secondary issue in talks with them) seemed improved but the motor was still jumping, especially during a hot start. I went back to the shop and asked to see the removed mount, and brought it home. I've examined it closely numerous times, with a magnifying glass and without, and couldn't find the reported crack or cracks. I showed it to two people in the business who couldn't see any cracks. I stood and listened to the manager read the mechanic's report which said the motor mount was cracked. That report should still be on the shop's hard-drive, unless they have a proven record of deleting such files, or the HD is accidentally destroyed. That was the first of two conversations in which she refused to hear the facts. I left to avoid an argument. I finally went back to the shop and reported that I didn't want the old mount re-installed, and made an offer. I suggested that I would buy a new mount, which they could install and then refund my money. The manager insisted that the old mount must be reinstalled, again in a raised voice, and would not commit to the refund. I left again. I had thought the insistence on reinstalling a 'cracked' mount was curious, and it occurred to me later in the day that, if the mount was reinstalled, it would be impossible to prove it wasn't cracked. I sent an email to the manager and said so, with a series of close-up photos of the mount attached. That was yesterday; 04/06/2025. Last night I was sent a rambling message from the manager in which she denied receiving the photos. They are attached to the sent copy in the file. CAROLINE W. Some folks entered at the end of our conversation in which she refused to honour her commitment. If you were with them, you heard the last 30 seconds of our 'discussion' before I "STORMED OUT". You'd have been angry too if you'd just learned that you'd been cheated out of $500. If you'd come in 60 seconds earlier, you'd have heard her "going off" on me about her highly-skilled mechanic. You know. The one described below by Sherri R.? The same one who replaced a perfectly good motor mount and charged me $500 for the privilege? Yeah. That one. With this page of 7 reviews, and another of 12, 53% are negative (not looking good for Midas), with yours being one of two with five stars. The second one is 4 years old. Anyone else have amazing service from Duncan Midas this is what they did to my rims and tires and they will not warranty their work because it was before their lifetime warranty policy on the tires. These tires have less than 5000 km on them. They've also hit my rims with the bead break. I have contacted Midas corporate and because they're a franchise the owners can do what they want. Here's some photos for if you're thinking about getting work done I would think twice I only purchased my tires through there as a friend of mine worked there at the time and they had nothing going through the shop that day if you see my big tan tan jku bombing around with a full window deckle on used 33s that says I got screwed by Duncan Midas. brought my recently bought suv in for an inspection. got my spark plugs, breaks, rotors and callipers replaced April 2024. A month later I noticed grinding and scraping sounds that were rotational so I brought it back in to get it checked out. They said its the front right bearing they quoted me $700 so I went into a local michanic that quoted me $500 to have it replaced and they said your bearing is completely fine so I did not have it replaced. went back to Midas to have it looked over and they said they recommend replacing both CV axels which was $1300 so I went ahead because the sound coming from my front and was making me nervous. I drove away with the sounds still occurring. i went to BCAA and they diagnosed the problem to having dirty breaks and rotors and they cleaned it up for $75. i havnt heard the sound since. this is my second vehicle I have brought to them the first one I spend $4-5000 on so I thought I could trust their honesty. read more

I'm told to bring my car in at 10 am July 15/22, they looked at it 90 minutes later while I sat and waited. I was told, " we can fix the muffler this afternoon" so I left with the car still there. Waited all afternoon, till a phone call at 3:30 PM Friday afternoon "Can't fix your car today the welder broke". ( seems like BS to me). So I asked for a quote for a new exhaust system, since it seemed he did not want to do custom work. She never got back to me. Called on the Monday, she said "I'll get back to you, not today since I am very busy with quotes". ( no problem). 3 days later called again. No one knew anything! This time it was a guy he said he was all over it. ( sounds good). Two and a half weeks later, I'm still waiting. NEVER AGAIN will I go there. Good quick professional service. These people really know what they're doing. All trained mechanics. And compared to going to a dealership really reasonable prices. I went there because I was having a muffler problem and they remedied that quickly and then found out I had a problem with my tailpipe which they fixed for free.
