I took my 1951 truck into H and M to see if they could make it run better when I got it back it didn't run any better, charged me $300 and when I got it home I noticed that both mufflers had been crushed. I went back to H and M and they told me that they didn't do it. I told them that they must have done it because I had never run over anything and no one else had ever driven it since I had the new mufflers installed. They still denied doing it and when I said that I would show them how they did it on their middle ramp they asked me to leave and offered to give me the $300 back that I had already paid them. I took the money. When I got home again I found 2 broken engine mounts and 2 dented chrome valve covers. I went back with the motor mounts and they physically threw me out of the shop. They must have run it at speed up onto their center ramp and because it is low they hooked the mufflers on the ramp pulled the engine back far enough to break both engine mounts and dent both valve covers on the firewall. Went to H & M to have my battery quickly tested and they charged me $40 dollars for that. On top of that they wanted to charge me an additional $300 for the new battery and installation. Instead I went to All Battery where they wouldn't have charged me anything to test the battery. All Battery also only charged me a total of 180 for the new battery and installation which only cost $15. The battery also had a 6 year warranty on it. H&M were amazing when my car overheated in Duncan in July, 2014. They thoroughly inspected the vehicle and tried to order the missing Jetta-specific part. Since we were heading up island on vacation we didn't have any time to loose and he wasn't able to get the part for the following day so he called up to Nanimo to Harbour View, spoke with the parts dealers and had them purchase the part and scheduled us an appointment for the following morning. I am positive without meeting this mechanic I would have had to have my car towed at a great expense. He gave us water to put in our water recovery tank and advised us how to get to Harbour View for our morning appointment. We didn't spend a dime at this autoshop but we still got amazing service and I am so grateful for their assistance. I definitely recommend H & M Brake. They know their stuff :) read more

Make sure that you get an upfront quote for inspection work. I took my car to H&M due to a front brake noise and was provided with a quote to replace the front brakes for a total cost of $740. That cost was more than what I have been charged at other garages to opted out of the work. When I went back to pick up my car I was charged $55 for the inspection. I ended up taking my car to another location who charged $402 in total to replace the front brakes and rotated the tires for free. If you are considering work at this garage make sure that you obtain an upfront quote for having the inspection done or take your vehicle to another business who does not charge for that service. read more
