this jiffy lube location is located at 420 s.r. 434 north, altamonte springs, florida 32714 on 1/23/23 i drove my excellent running car to jiffy lube for an oil change. took the employees recommendation on the oil and he showed me a so called dirty air filter and i allowed him to sell me another one. about 15 minutes later the manager calls me to his window and tells me i need a new valve cover gasket and with labor it will only cost me $471.78. please note, my car was thoroughly worked on a short time before and was in excellent running condition, which i can have verified. now through incompetence or scam, the techs fouled up the engine and the car would start, then started but kept stalling, engine light is on and, almost no acceleration, the car was basically and is undriveable! they used a computer to diagnose the problem and said it was the sensors and they would replace them. after being ignored for almost 2 hours, i ask one one of the techs when it would be finished and was told those parts are no longer available, but he would talk to the main office and it will be taken care of. almost 2 hours later the manager presented me with a bogus explanation including a diagram as to why the car won't run. he presents me with a bill of $3,240 to fix it. he said the whole engine needed to be taken apart or totally replaced, which he could do. in disgust, i asked him if there was any chance i could make it home with the car as
i'm just several miles away. he says may be if you keep your foot on the accelerator. with much stalling, chugging, smoking and my emergency lights on, i got it home an hour and one half later. the next day i had a mobile mechanic look at the problem and using his computer, he said: no problem, it's just the solenoid. he got the part installed it and the car runs like before. total cost with labor, part and getting it: $315.00. i was being scammed by jiffy lube. i'm 78 years old and although my car was not brand new, they figured i'd fall for their reprehensible scam. there are laws against defrauding a senior citizen with very serious consequences i will report this scam to the appropriate state agencies, also to aarp that jiffylube be black listed. this practice of theirs can't continue.
our governor in florida takes special interest in reports of elderly abuse and outright consumer fraud and governor desantis will be notified! i have complete documentation and corroboration and what had ensued.
