I hired Sean Douglas (aka Michael) of Corleone Concrete and Masonry for a new foundation, footings,…read morewaterproofing, and a concrete staircase (quoted at $55k; $18k deposit). He convinced me the work would be by code and that all permits would be pulled by him, including structural, plumbing, and demolition permits. In reality, no permits were obtained by Sean. He started demolition without a permit. Work was minimal and inconsistent, with questionable structural adds. The crew was unreliable--late, few on site, and sometimes unproductive. Sean doesn't own the equipment expected for this job. You would think someone who specializes in concrete would have the tools to break up concrete but not Sean. Site safety was a concern (no portable toilet; a worker was observed smoking marijuana on site on 12/13/25; odd behavior from Sean). I paid $18k by check, which was cashed at a pawn/check-cashing location, not deposited to a business account. After termination, there were safety and security issues (a break-in to remove tools on 12/14/25 at 10pm; debris and a trailer abandoned on my property; unauthorized access through a window on 12/19/25). Police were notified. Sean has blocked me and offered various unfulfilled excuses about refunds via his colleague which is a lawyer. I was fooled because of this connection but dont fall for his lies. He has failed to provide an invoice, failed to provide any refund, and disappeared after being fired. Bottom line: significant deposit lost ($18k), no permits, poor workmanship, safety concerns, and poor communication. He shared a photo of my check image with a stranger, which is highly inappropriate and raises additional security concerns. DO NOT HIRE. Please question the credibility of these other positive reviews, as a business with decades in operation as he will tell you typically has a longer history of feedback. I have since learned he has several small claims filed against him. Douglas Concrete on BBB is also him. I have no doubt this current company will not be his last. He has a clothing line bostonhard where he states to "represent the 1% that follow no rules that society inflicts on us." He certainly believes this. I write this review in the hopes that others do not get taken advantage of as I have. I have proof for all these statements.

Working with Masonworks has been a roller coaster. They are very, very good at the masonry aspect,…read morebut we had a negative experience with everything outside of the excellent stone walls and patio they built for us. They have built beautiful flat stone walls for us in our front and back yards. We were very impressed with them after the first job they did for us in our front yard a few years ago, so we did not even look at other companies when we wanted to spruce up our backyard this year. The garden walls they built in the backyard were once again beautiful. However, as a gardener, I was disappointed and frustrated by the following things: - Our contract included 50/50 loam compost for the new garden beds. During the job, we caught them filling the beds with the grass they had pulled up from our old lawn and asked them to stop doing that. - When I went to start planting, I found that the garden beds had only a layer of new soil but that my shovel quickly hit a lot of big rocks and uncovered old soil, debris, and trash. - They completely trampled and destroyed my established perennial garden, which was located in a garden bed above where the new beds were built. They also broke several pavers in a little garden path I had and removed them without replacing them. - They recommended microclover for my lawn and seeded it for us as part of the contract, but it grew in quite spotty despite us maintaining it properly with daily waterings. I contacted them about the first issue and their initial response was to tell me that the stones I was finding were part of the wall construction - this was not the case. They had someone come out to take a look and concluded that the soil did need to be replaced, which they finally did. It is much better now, though I still have found some large stones in it. However, in the process of solving that issue, they caused the second one - many of the perennials that my mother and I had worked to plant over the past four years were totally destroyed. They offered me a credit to compensate for the loss, or the option to have them reinstall new flowers, but by that point I just didn't want them near my garden anymore so accepted the credit. I didn't bother contacting them about the spotty lawn - I threw down some grass seeds yesterday to try and fill in the gaps. While I appreciated that they did eventually take steps to resolve the issues, I found it quite frustrating to have to keep reaching out just to get them to do what they really should have done in the first place. They never did a final walkthrough as I've seen other contractors do. No apology for destroying my garden. They have a Benjamin Franklin quote, "The bitterness of poor quality remains long after the sweetness of low price is forgotten" - I definitely felt some of that bitterness throughout this process. My conclusion is that they are really excellent masons but do not understand or respect gardens. If you hire them, be prepared to have to deal with that.

We are thrilled to have had Wilfredo and Caesar with us for fall 2023. We waited on the review…read moreuntil the grass, shrubs, and trees came in Spring 2024. We hired the team to begin work 'terraforming' our hillside property after a number of bids finding AA&B to provide the most comprehensive estimate and their willingness to work with us on such a large project. The only flat space on the property was very close to the street. The property dropped one full story from front to back of the house and then again another story about 8 feet away from the back of the house to the back lower property boundary. We are at the top hill on our street so the property also fell away towards our neighbors down the street. We discussed options to install retaining walls to transform the hillside to flat yard with retaining walls as two tiers on the South side with our neighbors, west side along ~80 feet of the back of property, and a bit on the north side to enclose the lower 'basement' level backyard. We had two gates installed either side of the house with a wide stairway down to the lower level on the south side. We had our gutters in the back and off the mudroom buried. To complete the project we had six foot stockade or semi-private fencing installed to ring the side and back yards. Work began in October and was finished in two months time on this massive project. We appreciate Wilfredo for his thoughtful comments and suggestions (excavation is discovery and you never know what lurks under the surface) and Caesar, 'the strongest man in the world'. We are so thankful to have discussed the project years ago with Wilfredo and very much appreciate all that they did for us. The photos do not show just how changed the property is. We have planted numerous fruit and shade trees, raised beds, to make it our private space. Many thanks guys!
