A breakfast burrito that rides the rails straight into legend. Some meals feed you. Others announce themselves--plant a flag in your memory and refuse to leave. Jesse James Foods, a train-car restaurant tucked into Batesville, Arkansas, does the latter with the confidence of a place that knows exactly who it is and what it's doing. I arrived from Austin with the quiet skepticism of someone who's eaten well and often. I left recalibrated. The stage is already set the moment you step inside: a railcar theme reborn as a diner, humming with the kind of honest energy that only comes from food made by people who care. And at the center of it all is Jesse himself--part conductor, part craftsman, wholly in command of his kitchen. I ordered two takeout breakfast burritos (mom in hospital) that could not have been more different in temperament yet equally accomplished in execution: the Ghost Aioli Ham Breakfast Burrito and the Sausage Breakfast Burrito. Let's talk about the ghost pepper first--because Jesse did. Knowing my Texas background and my respect (and caution) for ghost pepper heat, he paused. He explained. He offered a taste, not as a dare, but as an assurance. That confidence was earned. The ghost aioli, when paired with the ham, is a masterclass in restraint. The heat is real--but it's civilized. The richness of the ham tempers the ghost pepper's fire into something warm, aromatic, and deeply satisfying rather than aggressive. It doesn't shout; it hums. Of the two burritos, it was the clear favorite--layered, bold, and balanced in a way that tells you this wasn't an accident. This was thought through. The sausage burrito, meanwhile, is comfort done right. Savory, grounded, and generous without being heavy. It's the kind of breakfast that steadies you for the day ahead. And then there's the detail that separates good from great: a proper crispy hash brown aside the burrito. Not limp. Not steamed into submission. Crispy. Structural. Intentional. It adds texture, contrast, and proof that Jesse understands breakfast at a fundamental level. Service matters, and here it shines. Jesse and his staff are warm, attentive, and genuinely proud of what they're serving--because they should be. There's no pretense here, just hospitality backed by skill. Jesse James Foods isn't just a stop. It's a destination. If you're anywhere near Batesville, you owe it to yourself to climb aboard. This is a must-try--and a reminder that some of the best food in America isn't found in big cities, but in railcars run by people who care enough to get every detail right. - M. Brown read more

Great place! Smokehouse burger was great. Great flavor and the bread didn't get in the way. The boudin burger was good but I'm from Louisiana and like spicier boudin. The hot chicken sandwich had good kick. On another note, this is a Christian business that is not ashamed. I loved it. Keep up the good work! read more

Amazingly delicious food! I have had their crispy chicken sandwich twice and both times it was equally mouth watering. The huge portions cost no more than fast food. It's a diner. Cleanliness could improve some so minus one star for that. The employees here are hard-working! read more

The smokehouse burger was delicious! My daughter had the honey chicken and is wonderful as well. Great Service and staff! read more

I had the breakfast plate and everything was exceptionally good. The sausage was the best I've had in a restaurant ever. Friendly, helpful staff. And at top it off, you get to eat in a rail car. They are DoorDashable. read more

Really enjoyed this place! The location has been several things and most of them were pretty good. This newest tenants, however, are dang good! We ordered up the PB&J burger and it was great! The jalapeño jelly and the melty peanut butter compliment the thick patty & bacon soooo well. We also ordered the BBQ Cheddar chicken sandwich. Thick and perfectly cooked chicken w/a very crispy crust that was very impressive! It is so difficult to find a batter that is crispy all the way around even w/sauces and other toppings there to try to make it soggy, but it was perfectly crispy! I wasn't a huge fan of the flavor of the batter though. It had a few to much and to many seasonings in it it seemed. It wasn't a terrible flavor, just not my favorite. None the less it was still an outstanding sandwich. Don't sleep on the cheese fries though! The fries themselves are outstanding, but when they top them w/their cheese it just takes it to another level. Very well done! The service was perfect! Such a sweet waitress that had no help while we were there, but she stayed on top of everything really well. She never let our drinks go empty and kept a smile and a great personality throughout the evening. Def 5 star service from her. They have one of the most unique settings in all of the food industry by being in an old train car. It's pretty tight in there when it gets packed w/customers, but its very unique vibe and pretty neat. Def don't find a train car restaurant in very many places. We will def be back! Easily one of the top 10 burgers we've had in Arkansas, and the chef is in the kitchen just cooking his butt off doing every order up fresh as the tickets hit his board. Very impressive place and one that Batesville should be very proud of for sure. read more

This is a new place to added to our list in an area where selection is limited. I was skeptical of the train car setting at first, but there is ample room and it gives a cool vibe with the bar in the middle near the cooking station. The boudin burger has been my favorite so far. We have also tried the wings and found them to be be very tasty. The Jesse James sauce has some kick and a great finishing taste. The young lady that served us was very sweet and attentive. We will make it a regular stop when in Batesville, AR read more

Gambled on the good reviews. Our loss. Fries were soggy with grease. Not salted. Just gross. Wings were tasteless although we ordered hot honey. They were tough, with a rubbery skin & tbh, after taking the one bite of that funky drumette, I lost my appetite. However, I did manage to eat half of my Ghost burger. I had been given the impression the burger would have a bite from pepper but I misinterpreted the meaning because the most flavorful part of the entire meal was the slice of pepper jack cheese on the burger. As I write this review, my poor partner is having GI issues from the Nashville (chicken sandwich.) He only ate half of his and the stench in here is almost unbearable. Beware. read more

Reading the reviews I thought was going to be a great place. However that was far from my experience. We were the only ones in the restaurant. We ordered chicken sandwiches, burgers, and chicken wings that were the special of the day. It took over 20 minutes to get our food. Our chicken wings had no color, seasoning, or taste. They were supposed to be sauced. But cud not see any on them or taste any. The skin was rubbery. Took one bite and left the rest. We got our sandwiches and fries. The fries were limp and soaked in oil. It's as if they didn't have the fryers turned on to a high enough temp to cook anything properly. The burgers and chicken sandwiches were not worth eating either. No taste or seasoning on any of the food. Half of one sandwich was the most eaten. Decided to cut our losses and just pay and leave. At 15-18 for a sandwich you can do so much better somewhere else. The staff spent more time sitting at the counter talking to each other than paying any attention to us. read more

The burgers big and tasty! We ordered a regular burger and the Jesse James burger, both are excellent! We had straight fries and were not disappointed. The train car dining and the music playing made the experience wonderful. The service what good. We will definitely be back for burgers or try the breakfast. read more

The food was horrible and the owner was rude! We had raw food, he wouldn't even switch it out! He said McDonald's would not.

Sorry but this didn't do it for me. Ordered chicken and waffles and everything was pretty plain but not terrible. Except the waffle that was still runny in the middle. I'm not the type to complain and send food back but it was extremely undercooked, batter was wet and running out. I notified the waitress and she took it back and when she returned the same waffle was returned but now it was rubbery like it was microwaved. The restaurant was also pretty warm and stuffy and could have had some AC or fans going. read more

I wanna like this place I really do! Staff is amazing but food lacked flavor and seasons. Big time. No flavor. Sadly. Maybe next time.

Horrible!!! Friend/worker and the owner was there and made fun of my accent when I asked for syrup and made me feel an inch tall and then the owner smirked with him! The owner made me feel horrible with dirty looks as soon as I walked through the door. He seemed very racist just treating me different than everyone else in the restaurant even sitting me at a dirty table and giving everyone else there food while mine sat in the window cold! STAY AWAY!!!!!!!!!! Racist!!! read more
