You could easily walk right past this place as it is situated in the basement of a building just off Oxford Street. Don't miss out though it is a great pub and really good food. They offer a two for one lunch here where you can get two dinners for a tenner - this is a really great deal. The music can be loud, but not too loud to hear each other talk. I ordered the burger which is a bargain at just under 10.00. My girlfriend ordered a starter (grilled goats cheese) and she said it was delicious. I had to admire the persons food on the next table which apparently was the salmon fillet with mashed potatoes and sauteed spinach, which looked really delicious. The staff here are very attentive, but not intrusive. Jerusalem gets very busy on a Friday and Saturday night. It is a really good place to go out with a larger group because they have these long tables and bench's which give the place a real party group atmosphere. read more

Dark, down and dirty place on most Thurs and especially Friday nights opening till the witching hour jam packed full of creative and media types. Often for hooking up (guilty!) or getting wasted. I have also been in early evening for an evening and was amazed what it looked like under lights. It was actually a beautiful inside bar. Something I had never seen. Plus points for that. Jerusalem is a hidden gem in Soho that is often packed. You walk downstairs to this restaurant/pub with a back garden, Jerusalem is pretty great because the service in here is really attentive. They do a great veggie burger, really well made and chips to die for. Jerusalem made me a mixed berry shake, customised to my liking. The tables here are candle-lit and away from the bar, so you feel as though you are in and intimate setting much further away from the din. read more

Disappointing in both quality and quantity. Just come back from a night out at Jerusalem - it was a Christmas dinner with a set menu. I feel like we've been taken for a ride, frankly. The soup was extremely salty, with a few cursory non-croutons thrown in, which got too soggy too quickly. The main course was the best part of the meal - spinach and ricotta wrapped in grilled courgettes, but again with a tomato sauce which was heavy on the salt. The dessert took the biscuit though. Ironically - because there weren't enough biscuits. 3, to be precise, with each cheeseboard. 3 large lumps of cheese and 3 biscuits. Pathetic. It totally felt like there had been some management decision along the lines of - 'we can make a decent profit from the mugs who come here for Christmas dinner, as long as we limit the cheeseboard to 3 crackers per punter and no-one has the gall to pipe up, we'll be laughing all the way to the bank.' Well, one punter isn't having it. I think the meal cost £25 per person, which is laughable. They also had the temerity to have a £10 minimum card charge at the bar. Considering we bought a lot of alcohol, as well as a large group for the meal in the first place, this felt gratuitous. I left Jerusalem not feeling very festive at all. read more

A work mate had come here many times for drinks and dancing and loved it so she suggested this place for our work lunch. This place is a bit hidden as it's in the basement, if you walk a bit too fast, you're going to miss it. When we arrived for our reservation for 12:30pm, there were barely anyone there. It wasn't until an hour later another group showed up. The server had a great attitude, but service was just ok. They have a soup of the week or fish of the week menu, but there was no fish of the week when we were there, another work mate was quite disappointed by this information. I ordered their fish cakes starter, steak and chips and onion rings. Fish cakes looked quite burnt, steak was tasteless, but moist and it was cooked to my liking, portions were decent for the price. Upon finishing our main course, we asked for desserts, which is when we were told they had no dessert at all. This was very disappointing news to the group, and I think a total fail on the part of Jerusalem. We had this reservation made about a week before the day, for lunch time on a work day. They really should have had desserts. They get a borderline 3 star, based mostly on food and the service only and because my work mate really likes this place and told me not to give them 2. read more

This easy to miss basement bar serves drinks by the pitcher. I'd describe Jerusalem Bar as a cross between an abbey and a tiki hut with a dash of disco. It could really use a rethink. The second floor patio is a nice retreat from the scratchy sound system downstairs but becomes off limit at 11 prompt. So, my only experience of Jerusalem has been week day drinking - always fun. Anyhoo. I find Jerusalem dark and crampt. It also has possibly one of the worst table layouts ever. But, don't let that put you off. For the smokers out there, walk through the bar, up the stairs and you'll find a pretty large 'secret garden', imaginatively titled, but however you dress it up, it's still a central london back area. Prices aren't stupid, and I had a house cocktail which was fruity and reasonable at £6. Great for groups as they take reservations which means you can walk in on busy evenings to a guaranteed table. A group of six of us came here on a Friday night and whilst I wouldn't say it's a must-go-to bar/club, it's a good enough choice to continue a fun night out if you're in the area. It's a cosy size in there, (but not so small you're moonwalking onto people's toes!) and the DJ played something for everyone, plus it was quite nice to see a mixture of young and old(er) people letting loose on the dancefloor. I've been here a few times, for lunch and for after-work drinks. The first time I went I was expecting it to be dark and dingy (you have to go downstairs to get to it, and I'm not usually a massive fan of basement bars), but was pleasantly suprised. It is actually a really great atmosphere, and if you go there early evening there are some great drinks offers. The food is very good - standard pub fare, but at the upper end of pub grub. Very good value (not expensive) at lunch, though can't comment on dinner as I've only eaten here at lunchtime. read more

Great place with a great atmosphere. Being downstairs you really could be anywhere. The clientele provide proof that you are in Soho though as the place is packed with media types. There are long benches and tables to sit but to be honest it gets so packed your better off standing. As the place is downstairs and so busy it can also get very noisy too - not somewhere to go for a quiet chat. read more

STAY AWAY from this place if you value both your mental and physical well-being. I just returned from my standard Friday lunch with work mates... INITIAL IMPRESSION We were greeted with very slow and unresponsive service- it too them two tries to get our drinks order! WAITING TIME One would expect at least a decent waiting period to get your meal from a place such as this... you would be surprised, it took us three rounds of drinks to get finally get our food. With absolutely no explanation or apology from the staff for taking ages with a couple of burgers with chips. FOOD Absolutely horrific, clearly reheated burgers that leave a foul taste of ash and some unknown substance in your mouth. Stomach trouble is a given after lunch at Jerusalem Bar and Kitchen. SERVICE Waiting over 10 minutes to get your bill and over 20 minutes to pay for it, after prompting the staff is unacceptable, borderline incompetent. Also after complaining about the food/service all we got was a "Ok, thank you" response from the staff, absolutely ridiculous behaviour from a Central London based establishment. Good place to go with a bigger group of people, because you can actually understand each other while talking. They have long tables and the bar is pretty big. I liked the interior decoration, even though I couldn't figure out what style they want to go for. It's called Jerusalem, the bar looks like a Tiki bar and huge deer antlers are hanging up the walls. I had a lamb burger with tzatziki, while J had a cheeseburger, and they were only 5.50 each, including chips. I liked my burger - the meat was well seasoned and the lettuce and tomato were fresh. The lightly toasted bun was pretty soaked through by the end, so perhaps it could be a little more robust. Chips were a strange mixture of soggy and crisp, so I would advise just sticking to the crunchy ones and leaving the rest. read more

We'd just watched WICKED at victoria and were still on a musical high. We didn't want to call it a night, so we hailed a cab and ended up at Jerusalem. it was my first time and i had a BALL!! Jerusalem has really great food and I am a fan of the 2 for 1 lunch offer. It has a few long tables which are perfect for booking large groups on the weekends. I have eaten here a few times, and have never been disappointed in my selection. I love the setup. The tables are all candle lit and not too close to the bar. Such a nice atmosphere. Really lovely place to sit and have a drink, but the food when we went was awful, not even cooked properly! Seared tuna tasted acrid, chips were dark and soggy and the guacamole tasted of fish. Could be because it's the start of the year and the chef's taking a break... They gave us the meal for half-price but when it's this bad it should be free! read more

Holy Grail? Jerusalem has been around for quite a while and following in the footsteps of Sugar Reef and Denim, it too has had its day. But it is still a good spot for some after work drinks. It's dark and cosy and the tables are big, so why not grab some friends and head down there. It's not trying to be anything that it no longer is. read more

The Jerusalem occupies a basement location just north of Oxford Street, which can get very busy most evenings. We visited this bar because of a friends birthday party we attended. It was very hard to find the bar as the sign outside was very small and we didn't know the area that well. Going down the steps into the bar I was worried at what I might find at the bottom, but I was generally surprised by how nice it was. The big screen was down covering part of the bar and was showing the rugby and then when that was finished it was put away and the music started. The bar was decorated with plenty of dark red paint, lots of lighted candles to give some extra light to the place which was definitely needed, and gold picture frames all over the walls. Because of this it gave the place a dungeon and basement style to it. There was a decent sized bar and plenty of big wooden tables and chairs which made it all a bit more comfortable as the bar was packed with noisy people who, all things being considered, appeared to be having rather a good time. The staff were exellent and helped me deciding which shot to have and there was not long to wait for a drink either. It hasn't got a lot to offer when compared with some bars in this busy area but for a good party atmosphere, I would definitely recommend it. read more

I love this bar, although it's best in quite a large group of people so you can take full advantage of the long tables, otherwise you can find yourself feeling a bit lost amongst large groups of work colleagues who have gone out for post-work drinks. As another reviewer said, you really need to know where you're going as it's not clearly signed. read more
