Moved to the area and found a donut shop that feels almost too perfect to be real. It's the kind of little spot that feels straight out of a movie. The donuts are phenomenal -- fresh as hell and easily up there with some of the best I've had, and I've had plenty living in LA and Dallas. The woman working there was also one of the nicest people you'll meet, which somehow makes the donuts taste even better. They were so nice to us and when I needed to grab donuts on the way in to work I was really appreciative of their help in scrapping together 2 dozen donuts on the fly from their stock. Also, the donuts themselves were delicious, I liked that I could taste the vanilla in the glaze and all of my employees in the class I was training loved it! I'm a bit torn on this review. On one hand, these very well could be the best donuts I have ever had. But on the other hand, that just means my future donut experiences are going to be compromised by what I know in my heart, and my stomach. Coworkers bring in donuts one morning that are not Jerry's? Forget about it. The guys at the barber shop have donuts that did not come from Jerry's sitting out early one Saturday morning for customers? Pass them by. And this is especially more troubling when you stop and consider I'm willing to drive the 30 minutes it would take me to get here, no questions asked. Jerry's entered my life because of my friend. He had told me that some Saturday morning we need to get up early and head out here for donuts and kolaches. I assumed "early" was by 9:00 a.m. but how foolish I was: we had to be here by 7:30 a.m., and even then that was pushing it. I thought this was exaggeration. But when 6:15 a.m. came around on my alarm clock this previous Saturday, I stumbled out of bed and drove down to meet up with him for what would end up being a whirlwind morning of stops that peaked with Jerry's. As a lot of reviewers have pointed out, Jerry's sits in a strip mall that has seen better days. The parking lot is a bit torn up and the storefronts, while occupied, could double as backdrops for anyone filming an after-school-special in the 80s. The rising sun cast some long shadows across the sidewalk, looking like something out of a film noir flick that had the unfortunate geography to be filmed in Dallas. And at the end of the walk were the warm lights coming from Jerry's, a hole-in-the-wall all but indistinguishable from the street (though you can see the sign above their door). This was 7:15 a.m., and you could already tell some of the goods were sampled behind their display cases. Upon walking in, the place smells good enough to eat. I'm not advocating taking a bite out of the wall, or anything, but that aroma was beyond satisfying. A woman with one of the warmest smile I have ever seen was working the counter, and my friend placed the order: a bag of donut holes, a glazed donut, a cinnamon cake donut and two kolaches. All for $4.75. Wait, what-? All of that for under $5? The bag of donut holes was $1 by itself, which means something in this order was under a buck. There are good deals, and there are great deals. And then there are deals like this that you share on Yelp because some secrets are too rich (and delicious) to keep to yourself. We gave our thanks, she wished us well and I noticed they have audio book rentals kind of casually set up in the corner for customers. That's cool, and a system like that would not exist if people did not use it. While walking back to the corner where we sat and ate, we passed another guy walking in to place an order. No joke, and no exaggeration: in the 20 minutes we sat outside eating, I counted 12 customers going into and out of Jerry's. And they did not leave empty-handed. If we left the parking lot at 7:40 a.m., and I counted 12 transactions besides our own, then you absolutely need to get here by 7:30 a.m. before things get crazy. The donut holes come in pre-packaged bags on hooks, and when we got ours, there were gaps where bags had already been taken off the hooks and bought. And one donut hole is enough to see why: they are beyond light, impossibly airy but filling. Ditto the glazed donut. The cinnamon cake donut was solid without being crunchy (kind of hard to explain but you know what I'm talking about if you're a cinnamon cake donut connoisseur) and those kolaches... My friend savored his with mustard. I had mine gone in four bites, or 17 seconds. I seriously thought about going back in and ordering five more, just for me, but logic (and being able to fit in my pants) won the battle as we pulled away. Jerry's deserves every bit of praise to be paid to it and if you are looking for a local donut shop to redefine your appreciation for all things donut-related, this should be your top destination. Just get up extra early because going after 7:30 a.m. is a foolhardy mission. read more

I'm guessing I came here too late (10:30 am) because the selection was very slim. They had glazed donuts, cinnamon roll donuts, and, strawberry iced donuts left. I was hoping to try the red velvet one someone posted a picture of, but I was SOL. I got a glazed and a strawberry iced. About $2. The glazed was standard, but thick. The strawberry iced was way like the total opposite of fresh, but it photographed quite nicely. I've had a chance to sample most of what Jerry's Donuts has to offer, and am just going to break it down by donut type: 1. Glazed: Some of the best that I've had, but not as good as Round Rock or Krispy Kreme. 2. Chocolate Frosted: Not glazed. Why any donut maker wouldn't also glaze their chocolate frosted is beyond me. Put to shame by Krispy Kreme and, especially, Round Rock donuts. 3. Cinnamon Sugar Cake: Typically, I prefer yeast to glazed donuts, but I've not had anything quite like these. Excellent! 4. Banana Cake: With glaze. Also Excellent! (They only have them on Fridays) 5. Filled Donuts: Quite a few varieties (chocolate cream, cherry, apple, coconut cream,) all yummy. They are glazed. The glazed varieties capture that wonderful sugary-fried taste that is hard to describe. When eaten hot and fresh, they have that wonderful not-quite-solid/ not-quite-liquid/this-is-a-new-state-of-matter consistency. Overall, these are 5-star donuts, but to put things into perspective, they are still beaten by Krispy Kreme (glazed and chocolate iced glazed,) and Round Rock Donuts (pretty much all varieties except the cake donuts, which are phenomenal at Jerry's.) read more

I just moved to the neighborhood and was hoping this would be my new go-to spot for donuts and Kolaches. Boy was I wrong. I asked for two dozen Kolaches and the girl at the counter says "I'm sorry ma'am I can't do that". I smile thinking she's pulling my leg and she just continues to stand there motionless looking at me; prompting me to realize that she was serious. I asked why and she said "we can't sell that many to one person, we won't have enough then". So, bottom line, they have the Kolaches, just don't want to sell them all to one person. K! Guess I will continue my search for a new donut shop. Even if a shop does have a ridiculous policy like this, at least train your people to communicate that in a more professional way. I grew up in Farmers Branch and Jerry's became a Saturday morning ritual in our home. Moved back to FB in 2010 and have resumed the ritual with my kids. Not only is the trip to Jerry's personally nostalgic, I am amazed that they still hold up as the BEST donuts...period, no, exclamation point! Glazed donuts are my preference and there are none better than Jerry's. Also go for the Apple Fritter and/or Cinnamon Roll, but you will have to get there early because they sell as fast as they can make them. read more

I make it a point to stop here for donuts every time I am in the area. They have no such thing as a bad donut. The blueberry cake donut is to die for. The cinnamon rolls are delicious. I even somehow tried a carrot cake donut seasonal special. One day it will be a Tuesday to try the special red velvet cake donut. One day! This place just sucks. It's like the owners are trying to run the business into the ground, that or they just have no interest in making and selling good donuts. First off the selection is a joke. I walk in at 9am on a Saturday and they have maybe 3 dozen donuts left. No variety and nothing even exciting jus plain glazed and chocolate iced and maybe one or two others. Where are the cake donuts? No donut holes? Not even a single sprinkle to be found. This is the most boring and bland food related business I have ever stepped into. These are the best effing donuts in the Dallas area. It's stupefying that anyone would say otherwise. The highlight here are the jelly donuts. Instead of being filled, they're topped with fruit and resemble a kolache or danish. I've taken these donuts to work on several occasions and people lose their effing minds over them. And I'm in a fairly health conscious, workout crazy office environment. Two people I work with have actually asked for the address and ended up driving from their homes in Tarrant County all the way to freaking Farmer's Branch to get these jelly donuts for the office or visiting family. The best donuts hands down. It's as if they melt in your mouth. The chocolate sprinkled donuts are delicious. They use actual sprinkles that aren't the hard ones most donut shops use. Also, they don't glaze the chocolate donuts as the original dough used has enough flavor that compliments the chocolate etc in the best way possible. My review mirrors all the others mentioning that Jerry's has new owners. I stopped in and purchased several dozen glazed donuts for myself and co-workers each week. I got to know the people running Jerry's ( Jerry himself has been out of the business for many years) and they were a wonderful group of people. The glazed donuts were unbeatable. No competitor ever came close to the glazed donuts from Jerry's. New ownership took over, promising they would not change a thing which gave me hope. The old bakers themselves stayed on board for several weeks to ensure their recipe was followed. Within a month, changes were made and the once phenomenal glazed donuts at Jerry's had become at best, a poor rendition of the original. Why would new owners feel the need to change a recipe that had proven to be immensely successful over the years? Cheaper raw materials, less time spent in production? Who knows what their moronic rationale could be! Sad to say, I tried Jerry's on two more occasions hoping to be wrong. Very unfortunately, I was NOT!!!!!! Will never purchase a baked good from this establishment ever again. Wonder if the new ownership reads these reviews? I'm not from the Dallas area, I'm from Seattle, so I had to rely on Yelp to prove to me this place was worth going to. This was last November. Hands down, the best donuts in Dallas. I live in the Irving area and there are little smatterings of donut shoppes around the area, and I have tried a few out of convenience/location alone. Most of them are boring and taste stale or have barely any taste at all. I'm all about the dough in a donut, even more so than the frosting. Then, thanks to Yelpers, I found Jerry's. Sure, it's a little more of a drive, and I have to make sure I'm up a little earlier on a Saturday morning as they close at 11, but this is all worth it. The dough is great and dense and tastes fresh, and the frosting is just perfect. I recommend the chocolate frosted. The staff is very friendly as well. Drive the extra miles to get to Jerry's, you won't regret it! Update: I hate to post anything negative about this place, but as it has happened multiple times I felt an update was necessary. I took one star away because the last 4 out of 5 times I have gone to Jerry's, I have walked away empty handed. Twice I have arrived around 9am and they are completely out of most donuts, with no fresh ones coming up soon. This seems like poor planning or forecasting, as a business owner should be able to anticipate the demand and fulfill the supply, especially when they are not close to closing time. The other two times, I have pulled up only to find they have completely closed the shop for a few days for unknown reasons. I drive a little farther to buy these great donuts so it makes it a little more frustrating to make the drive only to find they are closed or sold out. This small business should definitely be supported based on quality, however a few small tweaks are in order to make it a five star shop. 5 stars for a donut shop is a little unusual for me, but this little shop has got it going on. Open for 40 years! they make the donuts you crave and they do it really well. That's 40 - not a typo. My favorite are the jalapeño kolaches, banana bread cake donuts, unglazed blueberry cake donuts, and the best apple fritters. My coworkers love the sour cream, plain glazed and cinnamon rolls. When I show up around 6am they usually still have everything I and my coworkers want. Usually there are only 2 people working, so if they have to glaze or fill more donuts you might have to wait just a min. The service was friendly, but brisk. I don't need to be gushed over during a 2 minute transaction, so this was good for me. The other customers waiting for donuts are usually so happy, smiling and offering to get the door.
