I needed something for dessert and this place popped up before my eyes! VERY easy to find with lots of parking! Shipley Do-Nuts have always been a favorite as they sell heavy donuts. The perfect weight to know you had one. This location had all kinds of displayed options which keeps the ambiance on selling donuts. I usually know what I want, but the options did slow me down before I ordered all in the store instead of what I need. Shipley Do-Nuts are usually hit or Miss for me. Sometimes they are decent, sometimes they are just ok, and sometimes just ok is a stretch. When I walked in I noticed this is a Shipley's that is a bit older than other locations I have visited. It was typical donut shop ambiance with glass cases, signed on the windows, etc. I ordered a Glazed Donut and a Bavarian Cream filled Donut. Both were just ok to me. I've been to this location twice and the sausage and cheese kolache is always so hot, fresh and cheesy. The donut holes are perfectly soft. Though it's usually pretty crowded in there, service is quick. All Shipleys are not created equally, so I'm glad to have found a good one! read more

I order via Uber eats so didn't get the in-store experience; but I've grown up in TX, loving Shipley's; however, this location (Preston) simply can not execute a basic sausage and cheese kolache (or much else I've tried)... Their version of cheese is so very little that you can only see a bit of yellow when the roll is cut open (see pic) but you cannot taste or smell it. I've asked for extra cheese, to which I received a snarky note that 'extra cheese' costs extra and they 'wouldn't be able to accommodate in the future', and on that occasion the Preston location included a kolache SO overloaded with cheese it was nauseating and inedible... This has never been an issue at other stores, from Katy to Magnolia to other Dallas locations. I took a pic that PERFECTLY illustrates this issue - I only wish I had taken a pic of that snarky note and gross kolache. I've given thesePreston location +5 tries to no avail. I'd bet the official Shipley folks wouldn't be happy to hear how THIS franchise is run. I get Shipley's maybe once a year - all I wanted was my darned annual kolache... FAIL - DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY AT THE PRESTON ROAD SHIPLEY DONUTS. Disappointed I often visit this donut shop over the years. My purchase this morning tastes different as if the recipe has changed. This was our first time at Shipleys, and we think it is a pretty solid place. Firstly- half a dozen donuts is only $5. That's great compared to other chains. I had gotten Lee donut here once before and remember being very disappointed. I was really desperate and needed to grab something quick so I stopped here for a kolache and a glazed donut. A glazed donut tasted like something from a 7-Eleven at 10 p.m. I had to wait 7 minutes for the kolache and cheese, and when they gave it to me I thought it was a frozen dinner roll that they had warmed up. I validated that it was a kolache a guy said yes when I bit into it it literally tasted like a warmed-up dinner roll with a very thin boiled hot dog on the inside. The best part was the melted cheese which tasted like a bland cheese whiz Sorry Shipley, I've given you two tries. Next time I'll bypass and go to Racetrac or QT. My husband and I stopped by here yesterday 10/21/22, to get kolaches a cinnamon bun and a CHOCOLATE crème filled donut, $15 that was thrown in the garbage. This was absolutely inedible. The "chocolate " filled donut was filled with a white butter crème frosting the kolaches were undercooked, the cinnamon roll must have been decent because that was the only thing my husband ate and he LOVED this place. Unfortunately, I have to pass Shipley's stores on my route to work. It's often easy to pass by the first one, but I cave by the time the second one comes near. Sometimes I can't stop the craving even if I'm running late! Granted, the kolaches aren't your typical Texas style but they are some of the best in my opinion. In a nut shell : donut shops are dime-a-dozen so you better be good. This is my first experience here. It's sib oar to your average donut shop. It's got an okay selection, it's a little pricey and customer service is lacking. The biggest factor that stands out the most to me, that gives it a poor grade, is that the donuts taste like they were cooked in old oil. Nothing's worse than having a donut cooked in Old oil. I think I'm going to skip this place in the future I've found so many other places that are really good. It's kind of a bummer since it's really close to my house. Finally, managed to stop on an early Friday morning. Walking up you can see all the glorious sugary donuts through the window. It made me excited to see the large selection at 6 am. I only eat glazed and they are so good here. Especially when warming it in their microwave and buying a bottle of milk they offer. Perfect combo. It's usually packed when I go but they work really fast some I'm out quick. It's a little difficult getting out the parking lot if heading towards the tollway so fyi. I will say this Shipley's is nothing like the locations in Houston. I was excited to try this location because I moved here from Houston and Krispy Kreme just hasn't won me over yet. But this location is an embarrassment to Shipley's. First, when I walked in the customer service is not the best. I ordered a dozen of glazed donuts (At 8:00 am mat I add) which were given to me COLD. Now, around this time of the morning who wouldnt be making and serving fresh donuts. In Houston, 8:00am is the main time we go to shipleys and I have NEVER been served a cold donut. Maybe around lunch time but certainly not at 8 in the morning. The donuts also had a weird taste to them. Tasted like they were made in old oil or something. I also ordered a sausage and cheese kolache. Kolache was all bread. Very dissapointed in Shipleys. Went here after a co-worker brought some Shipley Do-Nuts into work. This definitely has a hole in the wall feeling to the place. I went there after lunch so I wasn't expecting the best selection of do-nuts, but they still had a decent amount. The filled do-nuts and cake do-nuts were very good. The filling seemed more jam like the dunkin donuts. I'm not sure if they are made with less preservatives or I just got some older do-nuts, but they don't seem to last longer then overnight so keep that in mind. read more

COCKROACHES! Went in at noon today to get my toddler son an afternoon treat. He wanted a "red donut with cream and sprinkles". I walk in and see donuts with cherry icing, but no cream and no sprinkles at all. I ask if they have whipped cream and / or sprinkles that they can add and I'll pay extra for them. The guy mutters no and gives me a look like he's been waiting impatiently for me to place my order. There's no one else in the place and I've been in less than 30 seconds. It's noon, so me asking for fresh anything would be one thing, but they carry sprinkle donuts (the empty tray was there)and I assume they stock sprinkles. Would it have taken that much effort for him to throw some on top of the cold donut? Fine. I'm not one to make a scene. My fault for coming in mid-day I guess. My kid will still enjoy a red iced donut. I order the iced donut, a bottle of milk and a kolache for myself. After eating my kolache, I realize that my son's milk has a tiny crack in the bottom and is dripping. I get in line behind the one other person in the shop and wait to let them know. The same employee is giving the new customer the same impatient treatment while she tries to decide what she wants. She yelps "Is that a roach?!" and points to a (1.5 cm long) roach crawling from his side of the counter to ours. The guy doesn't even flinch although we're both making comments about how disgusting it is. I had already eaten my kolache and my son was finishing the last bit of his. So gross. On top of the crappy service and the fact that there are roaches, these aren't even standard Shipley Donuts. They look and taste exactly like all of the other (Korean style?) donuts that seem to be popular around Dallas. I don't make donuts, so I can't speak to difference in how they're made, but they're more dense and have a different flavor. There's another Shipley's that's consistently good in flavor and service on Hebron Parkway. I just happened to be close to this one today and thought I'd give them a shot. There's a great selection of donuts. The custard filled are delicious, as well as, the blueberry. They have an interesting huge pastry called a butterfly, which is thin layers with cinnamon and sugar. The young staff may want to realize not everyone is there to purchase 1 or 2 donuts. I stopped my selection and purchase today after getting told for the 4th time, that counts as a double donut. Donuts taste really good, but the staff needs some mentoring. read more
