Not as rich as we thought and the filling was like fried milk donuts, so had a very contrasting but pleasant texture. Last but not least. The escalivada con garbanzos with anchovies, roasted garlic, peppers and onions. Got to get something healthy right? This was such a comfort dish, remind us of summer get-togethers with relatives. Sweet garlic and gently soft peppers and onions, savoury umami from anchovies (not pungent at all) really went well to elevate the chickpeas. The nutty sweetness from the liberal use of olive oil tied everything together. Anyways I asked the organic produce farmer if he would recommend a place to get healthy food because I didn't want to start my morning with something sweet. He pointed at this lady who owns San Juan and said we all go to her because she serves the most delicious food in the market and super wholesome. I was excited to learn that and walked towards her food truck and even happier to learn that she uses organic meat which I wasn't too surprised given that she also was buying organic produce earlier. If you didn't know, they provide 3 sizes for their biryani and appetizers - normal size, family size, and party tray. The party tray can easily feed 12-15 people while the family tray can fit 7-8 people. Here is what I ordered - :: Crispy corn family tray - this was a big fit! You didn't even need to warm it up, it tasted good as it was :: chicken majestic family tray - such unique flavours and the chicken was cooked to perfection :: vijaywada chicken biryani party tray - our all time favourite :: paneer 65 biryani party tray - another favourite :: double ka meetha - first time trying it and definitely won't be last. It was a bread budding with alot of ghee and tasted delicious!! They provided a lot of raita and salan with the biryani. All of this was just enough for 30 people! However, every time they were supposed to be at Joyce Station (the only location I can easily get to), they would cancel, to my disappointment (they were good at updating their website, though). I had pretty much given up hope of ever trying Rice+Soup, but nearly two weeks ago, on Thursday May 6, I once again spotted them by Joyce Station after work, so I immediately called my husband and told him I was picking up dinner. For the both of us, I ordered two Nom Banchok Nam Ya (lemongrass chicken soup) and one Lemongrass Chicken Num Pang (sandwich) to share. The food was FANTASTIC -- the soup was flavourful, and the sandwich bread was delicious and crisped to perfection. I knew I would like the soup, but I wasn't expecting to like the sandwich so much! In addition to being DELICIOUS, the portions were huge! My husband and I are piggies, but even we couldn't finish the soup -- they were HUGE! At $13 per soup and $8 for the sandwich, I have no idea how they can make a profit with such generous portions -- the food is not only tasty, but excellent value. I highly recommend Rice+Soup and hope to visit soon; however, the owner (who is super friendly) indicated that they likely won't be returning to Joyce Station and will primarily be in the River District and Mount Pleasant.

I wondered if the food would be similar to what I had when in Siem Reap. It was a slow afternoon as the lunch rush was over, and I was given two broths to try. The seafood soup (tasted so much like fish amok) and beef soup. Both were rich and flavorful. After a few visits, I have tried the seafood noodle soup (limited quantity), beef noodle soup and chicken noodle soup. All were so good. The owner was so passionate about his food and personable. We chatted about Cambodia and his take on his food -- a bit of fusion Cambodian. So do not come here expecting the exact same things as in Cambodia. Eventually I will want to try the rice and sandwiches. For now the seafood noodle soup really called to me as I missed fish amok.
