Jericho Cafe and Tavern was one of the best dinner experiences I've had in quite some time. The view from the porch is amazing and the location of this restaurant in Vermont is just perfect and is a very nice drive from Burlington. The wings were SO GOOD, and that's saying something since I personally love a good buffalo wing and have been to wing fest up in Buffalo, NY multiple times. The service was exceptional and seeing the sunset as we ate dinner was a lovely experience. 10/10 read more

JCAT's rustic exterior belies how sophisticated are its menu offerings, served by a friendly and efficient staff so industrious one individual was washing the glass in one of the doors around 9pm. I could not recommend this place more enthusiastically because the food was creative, impeccably prepared and the atmosphere--this night including music more atmospheric than one usually hears in comparable venues--was perfectly warm and subdued (even with the Sox game on two big TV's at a bar perfectly placed AWAY from the main dining area). And you can buy WHOLE homemade pies like I could not resist doing!?! If this place was in Burlington proper or closer than a half-hour away, it would definitely be one of the most popular sites of its kind in the city: that said, it's worth the travel (and probably on any given winter's night as well as a balmy one right near the summer solstice!!!) read more

Well the place is getting better. I had reviewed and last eaten at this restaurant over a year ago with horrible service or lack of. The service was fantastic and the presentation was equally desirable. This time the food was more of the disappointment. Oddly we used to be fairly regular patrons, but after my young daughter and I repeatedly had slow and poor service I decided to call it quits. I'm glad I retried it, but I still can't recommend it unless you have to eat in this specific area. Thank you to the staff and my hope is that the chef was just having an off day. My family took me to JCAT for my birthday, and were caught outside under the tent in a sudden torrential thunderstorm. The staff effortlessly guided everybody inside, and we were all quickly situated with our meals in front of us as though nothing had ever happened. I described our server Kaley as "grace under fire." The way the entire staff handled a surprise storm was absolutely graceful. We'll be back for many reasons, but this will be a big one. My birthday was extra exciting because of the storm, but definitely not ruined, thanks to the JCAT team, a well-oiled machine for sure. The appetizers, entrees, and desserts were off the charts, too! We had a delicious meal for 8 on their lovely deck. The martinis were excellent. Soup du jour was tomato with very fresh vegetables, minestrone but better. Wings were devoured, warm soft pretzels disappeared. Beef on wick was an au jus that was amazing. Fish & chips were yummy, kale with beets and goat cheese was delish and service was delightful. Living literally less than a mile from this restaurant for the last 10 years, it was heartbreaking for us to have to avoid it for such a long time while they struggled to find an identity and with figuring out how to serve good food at reasonable prices and to do so with good service. I'm happy to report that the JC&T has finally figured it all out, and with spectacular results! It's a wonderful thing to be able to bring family and friends to this local eatery again with the confidence that we're going to be treated to great food and even better service! In fact I'm about to take my wife and three kids for dinner there tonight, and everyone is very excited. Please don't waste your time! Went there for Sunday breakfast. They were mildly busy with several open tables. We ordered and several customers came in well after we ordered our breakfast. We watched several of those customers get their food, and the waitress informed us several times that our food was ready or close to ready. Needless to say, after 45 min of waiting, no food arrived and she then informed us she "could see our ticket was next". We obviously left. On our way out the door the hostess stated that they were very busy and that is what held up our order...but it obviously did not hold up the customers who arrived after we did. I live in the area, and always want to help support local business...but don't waste your time unless you have a hour to kill before the Tavern even thinks about cooking your meal. Do yourself a favor and take that time and travel to a neighboring city and eat there. Hopefully these owners will fade off and new owners can step in and get their act together. read more

Breakfast was great. Really enjoyed the omelet with caramelized mushrooms and maple bacon! Nice big and soft English muffins are a better choice than the regular bread. The hash skillet was very greasy which is the only thing preventing a five star rating. Our server, Ruby, was outstanding. She was the right amount of attentive. read more

Wonderful service, amazing food and beautiful location. We were driving along Route 15 and stumbled across this place, and we are so happy we did! My boyfriend and I split two appetizers: fondue and soft pretzels and maple chicken. Both were out of this world! I got a maple latte to go which was amazing as well. Weird breakfast. The sausage seemed like it was deep fried, my breakfast sandwich had a weird tube of egg, and the homefries were burnt to oblivion; and I like overcooked fries but this was gross. Our waitress practically ignored us (we went on a slow Monday morning). It took 20 minutes to order and probably another 20 to get the check. And she never checked on us in between (a food runner brought our meal). I am super disappointed because I had heard such good things about JCaT but was beyond unimpressed. read more

We were told we could not sit in the dining room, but were seated at a small table in the middle of the dining room, my least favorite. I was not expecting to sit in a bar, so I was very disappointed. It was very loud and there was no view, it was too hot to sit on the patio, but it just overlooks the parking lot, so no great loss. The food good but nothing more than I would expect from any where else, not outstanding. The service was very slow and we waited and waited for our check, we had places to go, but waited as servers stood behind the counter chatting, so that was very frustrating! Fabulous food and service with a relaxed atmosphere. We had to wait 15 min fir a table outside, but it was a beautiful day and worth the wait. Once we were seated the service was prompt and our wonderful meals came out in a reasonable amount of time. Also when we finished we weren't rushed to vacate. This is my third time visiting this gem of a restaurant and I've been pleased each and every time. I've had the burger, an oooey gooey grilled cheese, and today a Cesar salad, cup o' chowdah, and the muscle appetizer. The ambiance is seriously second to none. I had the pleasure of dining on the patio last July in the perfect setting with a calm meadow filling my eyes and soul with warmth. I came in November and dined indoors next to the window, where they have a bird feeder and today I enjoyed "Groundhog TV" where the resident groundhog "Doug", was having his lunch. I was surprised to see another groundhog pop out and I told the nice co-owner Chris, "you have a Daisy, too". The wait staff and owner/manager are very attentive and make you feel at home. The food is made to order and I had my interesting request of extra anchovies, which they brought out plated beautifully (for anchovies). My lunch mate had the carrot cake for dessert and I had a chocolate mousse cup with a delightfully edible chocolate cup mold. You can't leave without eating dessert! It would be morally wrong. If you haven't visited Jericho Cafe', you are missing a perfect eating experience! read more

Surprised to see so many great reviews. My wife and I gave it a try today and were disappointed with our meal. The decor, etc. is great but the chef needs some cooking lessons. My wife ordered chicken wings and got something that seemed to have been pre-cooked and warmed up in a microwave. Despite ordering them "crisp" they were soggy, cold inside and definitely not freshly cooked. She asked for extra sauce because they were so dry and got a small cup of cold Baby Ray's sauce. The french fries were cooked in what appeared to be oil that was old and should have been changed. Limp celery and carrot sticks (that most good restaurants would toss in the trash) instead of fresh, crisp veggies. Although the desserts in the display "looked" good, we were so disappointed by our main courses that we didn't dare order. Too bad. Such a nice atmosphere but the food was a total disappointment. Went for breakfast this morning and had a great meal of bacon crisp. eggs sunny side up, rye toast and home fries. Each and every item was prepared to perfection. The proportions were much to my liking. The price of my meal was in keeping with my expectations $8-10.00 range. The coffee was hot and full bodied and plentiful. My sever was attentive and professional, even though I was wearing Buffalo Bills Fan apparel. As a matter of fact many of my fellow patrons, though Patriot fans, offered their sincere condolences given the Bills recent performances. Great crowd, friendly staff, great food. It's a toss up for what was worse, the service or the food. Our friends were so excited for us to try the Poutine fries, but they were a soggy and greasy mess. My highly recommended kale skillet was nasty, but the salmon on top was decent. The turkey dinner was hardly edible. A glass of wine never came. I just had a fantastic meal at Jericho Tavern. First and foremost, my server, Jordan, was truly tremendous. She was swamped, but she was attentive, courteous, and incredibly friendly. I started with the buffalo wings which were really impressive with a dry rub and interesting spicing schedule. Followed up with schnitzel; easily the best I've had east of Partenkirchen! So sad about our experience tonight. We have stood by through many change of ownership/names. Last winter we had a couple great experiences, but something has changed recently. We went tonight and our dinner salads took over an hour. It seemed the waitress or chef forgot our order since three tables came and went in the time it took us to get our salads. Regardless who dropped the ball the waitress clearly did not care as she avoided eye contact. When (entree) salads arrived we had to ask for them to go. Only to find (when we finally got to eat them) they were at least 1/3 of the size they had been over the winter. Another mistake perhaps or maybe the portions are going down, with the service. Bummer, but we will not be back. read more

So gross! The food is disgusting! I had a veggie burger and it was made with oat meal. Tasted and had the texture of play dough. Received our bill and they were charging me for it! One bite and sent it back... No way am I paying for that. Went to the waitress and asked to have it removed.. Her response... I will have to ask the owner. If it has not been touched and you discuss with the waitress how displeased you are.. You do not get charged. Just awful food. Dressing on my salad tasted like a big ole onion. We will not be back. The food and the service are just not very good. their hamburgers are frozen and gross. I ordered a rare burger came out well done so when the next one came out at the correct temperature I kind of expected it to be juicy not rubbery and dry but looking raw in the middle. the wait staff was friendly but not very knowledgeable. when reading The Specials off of a list our waitress did not even pronounce steak tartare correctly. The desserts are good and the atmosphere is nice. also half off wings on Monday a decent enough. just don't go here for a real dinner. read more

We came in for brunch nearly a year ago and it was fine, but the new ownership seems to be serving this spot well. We stopped in for dinner toward closing time on a Sunday. There was a bit of an obnoxious bar crowd, but our servers, dinner, and dessert were all delightful. We shared a cup of clam chowder and the complimentary basket of bread brought to the table shortly after ordering. The chowder was very rich and creamy and wasn't oversalted, as clam chowder often is. The bacon Mac and cheese arrived bubbling in a small skillet and the melty, creamy cheese combined with the crunchy panko was super satisfying. My partner's meatloaf came on top of mashed potatoes and with steamed green beans on top. He thoroughly enjoyed it. It would be a mistake to skip their dessert case. We grabbed a slice of peanut butter pie to take home - it was awesome. The crust was peanut butter cookie and it was filled with a light, creamy filling that wasn't over the top-sweet. The first time we tried this place it was mobbed. The waitstaff had no clue what beers were even on tap and couldn't tell us much about them. Most of what they had on tap was IPA and other over hopped ales and the only beers that they had on the board which weren't over hopped had kicked but the bar staff hadn't bothered to remove them from the list. Unlike other places which offer a range of beers they didn't even have a fall back like Sam Adams in bottles which to beer geeks like me is the one flavorful craft beer I can always drink. So after 20 minutes of just trying to order a beer brought to us at our table we gave up and walked out. To their credit the hostess ran after us out to the parking lot to ask us why we left and presented us with a $25 gift card and asked us to give them another try. When we returned a few weeks later it was less crowded. They still had like 10 over hopped beers on tap but at least the 2 lager type beers they had were on tap. The service was much better when we returned and the food was reasonably good. I think that for the type of food they serve here the prices are a bit high but judging by how popular the place is I'd assume I'm in the minority on that opinion. This certainly is about the best restaurant in its area since there isn't much else anywhere nearby. You have to go to Essex Jct to the west or Cambridge/Jeffersonville to the east for anything of comparable quality. This probably accounts for at least some of JCAT's popularity. I personally wouldn't go out of my way to go here again but if you're in the area and looking for better quality food than a burger stand this is the place to go. The ambiance is nice enough though if you want to save a little money then order sandwiches for take out instead of going sit down. Also if you're here do make sure to check out the dessert case. The desserts aren't cheap but they are very tasty so splurge a little and treat yourself to one. read more
