I have been in the office 3x- 2 check ups and 1 filling. 1st time, a sub Dr was there. 2nd two appointments for check up and filling, Dr. Chong was there. I think these are best dentist visits in a decade. I went to some chain offices while my dental insurance was just awful through my job. Finally got decent insurance and it led me to Dr. Chong Reception is warm, friendly, does a great job at reviewing insurance for costs and billing. Hygienists have been easy going, knowledgeable, friendly, fast, and painless. Dr Chong is soft-spoken and clear! She was very instructive as she did my filling, which was helpful as I'm so nervous from years of bad service. She worked fast and delicately and told me what she was doing along the way. I've been a patient there for several years and have always liked the work that Dr. Chong did. However, the last year or so my appointments ended up being with other dentists and not Dr. Chong. I had some work done recently where the color matching on a visible tooth when I smile is completely wrong. I also had a recent visit where I was in the chair getting a tooth drilled and realized that the person doing the work didn't know what they were doing. It's pretty unsettling to have that realization while the person has a drill in your mouth. My tooth ended up hurting for over a month after that visit, and that was for a simple filling. I went to get a check up here a while back. I didn't have insurance at the time and I hadn't had a cleaning or x rays done in a while. They told me I would need a ton of dental work done. I wasn't willing or able to throw that kind of money down so I waited and went to a different dentist for my next check up and they told me I just needed a couple fillings. So I was eating Honey Bunches of Oats and although not quite Grapenuts, the granola from HBoO is fairly hard when it's clumped together like a giant oatball, hard enough to chip my molar. I guess I should start drinking more milk or just process everything in that Ninja Ultima food processor they sell at Costco you have to put a down payment on. I called in on Monday and got an appointment by Wednesday. Let me tell you, eating on one side of your mouth for 2 days sucks. I would recommend drinking your pizza. i got there and was seen right at my appointment time. There was some pain as the nerves were exposed but then in walked Dr. Chong, the tooth whisperer. She spoke to Chippy and it had a calming effect on him. He wasn't bucking around trying to my gums off. After a few words, Chippy relented and sat still while Dr. Chong worked her magic. I was basically in and out within a couple of hours. Although a side of my face was numb, I managed a slight smile to the usual friendly staff. I was even eating pho by lunch time. Yeah, it's not the hardest substance around but sometimes the basil can double over and then watch out! It's been a day later, and I literally feel like there was nothing wrong with my tooth. Does anyone enjoy going to the dentist? It's like having to get a physical exam, but worse...it's twice a year. Well call me square because I actually enjoy my dental checkups with the dentist Jenny Chong. She's very nice, knowledgeable, and she shows she cares about you in every detail of the checkup. I get along with others who aren't too extroverted or loud. That's how I felt comfortable asking a question about whether I should get a wisdom tooth removed due to an imbalance in my teeth. Rather than tell me what I should do, she helped me decide whether I needed it by letting me know what the medical literature was on it as well as answered my other series of questions related to it. And once the dentist starts working on your teeth, that's when you zone out, right? Yeah that's what I did too but I also noticed how she would reapply vaseline on my lips or would use the water suction. read more

I was sad that when I got a new job, I got new dental insurance. I'm not a big fan of the dentist, and my last dentist finally had me comfortable going. Picking a new dentist was not something I was thrilled to do. I found Dr. Chong on my dental plan website. I yelped her, and saw that she had great reviews, so I booked an appointment. They were able to squeeze me in first thing the next day. At first, I thought I made a mistake when I got there. I had a 9am appointment, and ended up sitting in the waiting room for like 10 minutes. I thought great.. I am going to be super late with my day now because they are pushing my appointment back. They sat me in the chair, and wasted no time. The hygienist and Dr Chong were really friendly, and really efficient. They did a thorough examination, and then got to cleaning. I was out of there before 10. Awesome! read more

Let's start this review by relating that I'm a horrible dental patient. I hate everything about the dentist, and previously had to seek out places that offered some form of anesthesia. I experienced dental trauma once as a child when a dentist removed a tooth that wasn't ready to come out, and didn't bother with any anesthesia or comforting words. That pretty much poisoned the dentist until I found one who could put me under. Unfortunately, my previous dentist did not accept my new dental insurance, so it was off to find a new dentist. I waited about 2 years or so because that's a hard decision. Based on Yelp reviews, I decided to give Dr. Jenny Chong a try. She is probably the best dentist on earth. I related to her how skittish I am about dental procedures. Instead of giving me the routine, "everyone is, don't worry about it" line, she explained every procedure in detail, allaying my fears. I've always been subconsciously worried about it damaging my teeth. She related that tooth enamel is harder than metal, and that she couldn't damage the teeth with her scraper. That helped a lot. I was able to undergo cavity repair with only some headphones and music in. Dr. Chong checked on me frequently. I had no problem with these procedures, which is saying a lot! I trust her with my dental care, and I will continue coming to her. She's quite literally the best dentist I've ever had! read more

It can be so hard to find a great dentist! When in LA it took me years to find one and then we move to the east bay. This time lightning struck! Dr Chong and Dr De Los Reyes are fantastic! So are Rose and all the staff I've interfaced with. My coworker recommended Dr. Chong when I just moved to the area, and she had been my and my daughter's dentist in the last 4 years. Dr. Chong and her staff are courteous, nice, and warm. Everything is great, we enjoyed the service. I noticed that the cleaning could be better (compared to my previous dentist). We stopped coming after "an incident" last summer. My daughter had her regular cleaning and X-Ray, and Dr. Chong said everything was ok. A month later my daughter got a toothache. To my surprise, she got 3 cavities (one big approx 50% and two small). When I asked Dr. Chong, she said that the big cavity must have happened in the course of 4 months or so. When I asked whether an X-Ray could detect early cavities, she said yes, it's the purpose of an X-Ray. She said that an X-Ray would have detected such big cavity. Then I asked why it wasn't detected a month ago by the X-Ray, she checked her record (forgot that my daughter had an X-Ray a month ago), and changed her answer. She claimed that such a cavity (50%) could happen in the course of a month. I am speechless. read more

We've been going to a dentist who was my wife's friend. One tooth was beginning to bother her so she tried to make an appointment. The dentist kept promising to work her in but we never heard back from her office. Enter Dr. Chong. My wife could not wait any longer so she started looking around in our area. Her search came up with Dr. Chong with great reviews here in Yelp and testimonials on her web page. Rose, her staff, was very sympathetic when my wife called and they worked her in for a special appointment. Rose even got me in for a checkup and cleaning. Boy! Are we glad we found Dr. Chong! She and Rose were very pleasant and understanding. Dr. Chong is very thorough and has very "light" hands. We hardly felt any discomfort. She and Rose always checked if we were ok throughout our procedures. She took time to explain her findings and gave us options for our next treatment steps - she considered both what makes sense and how we could minimize our out-of-pocket cost with our insurance. Rose is a great assistant and is very knowledgeable with insurance coverage. We've found our new dentist! We won't be going back to our usual dentist. Parking is very easy. I started hating going to the dentist. After my last super brutal dental cleaning and inability to get anyone to answer the phone or return my messages to make an appointment (Pleasant Hill Smiles Dentistry), I decided to find a new dentist. I received a referral from a friend of mine who loves Dr. Chong. She came highly recommended as a very gentle dentist. Fingers crossed, I made the appointment very easily. Front desk staff were very friendly and answered the phones and made my appointment without issue. 6 month later it's appointment time: front desk staff very friendly and organized with my paperwork. I met Dr. Chong who was unbelievably gentle. SHE did my teeth cleaning !! In all my years on this earth, that is the FIRST time a dentist has performed the cleaning (it's always dental hygienists and you see the dentist for 5-7 minutes). She was SO gentle and yet she was able to remove the plaque without jabbing, stabbing, poking or prodding me in the process. As she was running the instruments over my teeth, I could feel it was smooth and not catching on any plaque deposits, which leads me to the question...Why is everyone else so rough? It clearly doesn't have to be brutal to be effective!! Super LUX: in the winter I often have dry chapped lips and Dr. Chong already had Vaseline ready to go on the tray and reapplied it THREE times throughout the cleaning. How do you like that for thoughtfulness? It speaks to the mentality and care she has for her patients. I can't count how many times I've been to the dentist with dry winter lips only to come out with them cracked and bleeding. wow, Dr. Chong and staff was fabulous taking care of my dental needs. I had 6 (six) crowns done on Tuesday and when it comes to needles I freak out, heart rate pumps hard and hand starts to sweat. After a visit yesterday to get 4 fillings and a cleaning I highly recommend Dr. Chong's dental services. Dr. Jenny Chong and her staff were welcoming, warm and kind in a completely sincere way. Genuine friendliness is so much more valuable than insincerity that comes from staff I've interacted with occasionally in other medical offices. "Oh my god! Hi! You're here! Welcome, welcome, welcome, we are so excited to have you! We love you!" Seriously, this was near the level of embarrassing and insincere enthusiasm I received upon entering a competing dentist office earlier in the day. Hours before my eventual visit with Dr. Chong, I had made my way to another dentist's office for the dental work I needed, which I had made an appointment for over a week prior, making sure my insurance would be accepted at the time. Without going into a long story, I will just share that I was made to wait a ridiculous length of time even though I had arrived on time, and then I was told that the office had "forgotten" to get my x-rays from my previous dentist and since that dentist was not open this morning they didn't think they could do the work they had scheduled but they would "see what they could do." Then another 30 minutes later they came back and told me "we actually can't use your insurance and the 4 fillings and cleaning are going to cost you $1200." Obviously, dropping the ball was this staff's MO. I got the heck out of the place and immediately did some more yelping to find someone competent who would also take my insurance. Dr. Jenny Chong was in my PPO network and had good reviews on yelp, so I called up and was lucky enough to find that someone had just made a cancellation and I could take their afternoon spot the same day. The entire experience with Dr. Chong was pleasant. She and her assistant Rose were competent and knowledgeable and made me feel safe. The procedure went very well. I'm not kidding when I say I kind of had fun hanging out with Dr. Chong and Rose getting my fillings. On top of that, even if I hadn't had insurance she charged less than half for the exact same procedure than the other dentist I had been to that day, and since my insurance covered most of it I left paying a small amount for the excellent work done. read more

Today my hisband went to Dr. Chong to have two fillings placed. He was really happy with the whole experience despite his general fear of going to the dentist. As soon as he got to the office for his appointment, he was greeted and admitted to tje exam room right away, and only had to wait a few moments to consult with Dr. Chong, and she began the procedure soon after. My husband said that he couldnt even feel the two shots to numb his mouth. Dr. Chong took extra effort to make him comfortable, even shaking his cheeks so he was less likely to feel the shot. I've been going to Dr. Chong last couple years. I've either recently developed a higher pain threshold or my previous two dentists have been mechanics. Dr. Chong and her assistants are extremely conscientious about providing a comfortable experience. I think i even dozed off while getting my new bridge done. (Could also be the elevator music selection they loaded into their provided iPods - I recommend folks bring their own music.) Also i've been to the office several times now and noticed i've never walked into a crowded waiting room with patients that look like they've been waiting an hour. I don't think i've ever waited more than a couple minutes so from what i can tell things are running really smooth in that office. It's kind of a drive for me but excellent care, no waiting, and easy parking make it all worthwhile. read more

Came here because I purchased a Living Social voucher. Of course, I didn't know what to expect. I was happy to see that it was a nice, bright, clean office. Most importantly I was welcomed right off the bat and don't believe I was treated any differently just because I was using a voucher. I received great friendly service from both the dental assistant and dentist throughout my whole appointment. I felt comfortable and at ease here. I especially liked how Dr. Chong took her time with my exam and explained the things she was finding to me and gave me tips on how I can improve my teeth and gums by simply changing some of the things I have been doing wrong. I appreciated that. I've been to many different dentists before and they don't all do that. I really liked it here. Dr. Chong is the BEST dentist out there. I truly hate going to the dentist no matter what it's for, but have the misfortune of having bad teeth (thanks Mom and Dad) while also avoiding the dentist during high school and college. I now have a mouth full of crowns. I have been a patient of Dr. Chong for many years now, ever since she bought the practice in Concord from my previous dentist. She has never caused me any undue pain, and my comfort is her top priority. She doesn't rush through any of her treatments and also takes the time to get to know you on a more personal level She personally does all of the cleanings and because I have sensitive teeth, will take the time to do it by hand (versus the high pressure water pik thingie). I moved to AZ for a couple years and after a bad experience with a dentist there I traveled back to CA twice a year to see Dr. Chong! Now I am in the South Bay but still travel up 680 to see her. THAT'S how good she is. My wife and I are retired. We decided to join a dental plan, Safeguard. We had no illusions that you can get cheaper dental care if you have dental insurance not paid for or subsidized by an employer. But we thought that Safeguard would have some control over pricing and fair practices. Well, that sure didn't work with Dr. Chong's office. Safeguard has a booklet that describes most all dental procedures along with the prices that their dentists are "allowed" to charge. The fees seem fair and reasonable but there are always ways to get aroung the "system" and Dr. Chong's front office seems adept at doubling the price of dental service just by adding on unnecessary procedures. For a crown, my wife wanted a simple crown without any gold or other precious metal - the plan price was $245, plus building up tooth ($70) - Dr. Chong's office staff added several items NOT in the plan booklet i.e. gold $300 and Porcelain Tooth $200. When we said that we wanted NO gold (and what was the Povcelain Tooth for), they just said, very defensively, "that is the way we do it. The price is the same, gold or no gold." The Insurance company said that Chong office was out of line and suggested we go to another dentist. Dr. Chong also recommended that my wife get a teeth cleaning for an estimated price of $637. Wow. Now, with my crowns (not sure I even need them) and my wifes crown and cleaning the estimate was $3987. I expect dental care to be a bit expensive but this dental office is way over the top. read more

Dr. Jenny Chong is the best dentist! Hands down the most thorough professional! After her dental care, I don't want to see any other dentist. Dr. Chong has the most gentle touch and she tries really hard to know her patients. The first time I sat in the chair she knew how nervous ( and scared) I was even though I didn't say anything. I needed a lot of work done and from the X-rays my teeth needed special care - my teeth didn't come out straight but we're angled and poor enamel! Just looking at my mouth, you wouldn't know it- never needed braces...but, no wonder I got so many cavities! She was the 1st dentist to inform me of my situation!!! Since my first time in her office to today, her wonderful staff and Dr. Chong have diligently worked on scheduling me in to take care of all my dental needs even finding a weekend appointment, flexibility in scheduling multiple treatments, and late time slots due to my work schedule so that I can come in.
