This review is about 6 months late. Dr. Choi fixed issues I had with a root canal. My previous dentist blew through all my Delta Dental HMO $ leaving me with $0 and I had issues with the root canal (which by the way took 4 hours to perform) and I was stuck with tooth pain for approx. 1 year before the next calendar year had $$$ for dental work. Dr. Choi was recommended to me from Dr. Dale (Horizons Dental which I just rated as a 5 as well) and he performed another root canal (which was done during my lunch HOUR, i.e. 1 hour) and fixed all my problems. This office was highly recommended by my dentist and unfortunately the rude encounter with Kelly( I believe that her name) the manager (so she said) was unbelievable and awful. She was very short with me and rude. I didn't understand why certain services were posted online but not services Dr Choi performed. The procedure was not explained. I felt like i was bothering her with my questions. This was very unfortunate as Dr Choi i'm sure is great. I wanted to thank you for helping me with my root canal and I would also like to let you know that the receptionist has to be the rudest person I have ever encountered. She told me before I was coming in I needed to have a referral and I has one. I called the day before and said I have a referral, she said ok. When I arrived for my first appointment I gave her my referral and she said it was wrong and told me to call my own Dentist and get a new one. I thought wow, what great customer service. I thought she would make the call and she was extremely rude. She then told me how much it was and I said I want you to write down everything that Dr. Choi will be doing for me. She stated she had nothing to write it down on. She finally did so for me. If I had known she would be so rude to me I NEVER would have come to your office. I was referred to Choice for a root canal procedure. I've never had a good dentist experience, EVER! When I left this office today I was literally smiling. From beginning to end this experience was beyond 5 star. Front desk was a darling, Dr.Choi's dental assistant had to have felt my anxiety & she was so calming & asked me questions about my life that really took the edge off my fear. Dr.Choi was extremely considerate-after numbing my gums he decided not to numb my pallet because of my reaction to the gum numbing. He instead took time & was extra careful with all the hardware. I didn't feel a thing-when I say this was my best medical experience in all my 42 yrs I MEAN IT! This is a review for my poor old mom who was referred to Dr Choi for a root canal by her dentist recently, and usually I accompany her to her doctors appointments to make sure she is comfortable, but having to work that day, I couldn't go. She came back and called me after the procedure to tell me how it went, and said that while Dr Choi was extremely professional and competent, their receptionist was the opposite. My mother has a fear of elevators ever since she was trapped in one as a young woman, and when she got to the lobby and saw that she had to go up the elevator to his office, she panicked and asked a random woman who came in with her (at the time she didn't know that was the receptionist) where the stairs were, as she was scared of elevators. This woman turned with a roll of her eyes and a bad attitude, just pointed to the stairs without a word, then proceeded to use her keys to open the mailbox. My mom was feeling pretty bad at this point, with a toothache and anxious, and just needed some basic human kindness. Needless to say, she was more than disappointed when she opened the door to Dr Choi's office to see this woman was the receptionist. Mom did say that the receptionist's attitude was marginally better, after she recovered from the shock and embarrassment of seeing that she was that woman whom she as so rude to in the lobby, coming in as their patient. It's been 7 days since her root canal, and her tooth is still hurting her. She's going to have to return for a recheck. I'd like to meet this receptionist who works in an environment where fear and anxiety abounds, but yet has no compassion, much less common courtesy and customer service skills, for people who are coming in to get a scary procedure done. Even if she didn't know that she was encountering a patient, her attitude shouldn't be so unkind. It just makes me sad that there's so little kindness for a scared old woman who asked for help. read more

Although less than thrilled being referred from my regular dentist to a Endodontic (root canal specialist) and then what I thought was "only" going to be one root canal that turned out to be two infected teeth, I was pleasantly surprised with the dental work they performed and the professionalism everyone from Kelely at the front desk, Cathy the dental asst and, of course, Dr. Daniel Choi. I was in a lot of pain and eating had been next to impossible for many days, as of course, this started Friday evening. I don't know how he did it, but immediately after my first appt the excruciating pain was gone and I could eat again without fear of inadvertently hitting the sore teeth. The equipment is first rate, the dental workmanship performed was superb, and I was very pleasantly surprised after having two root canals performed that I only needed a couple of the prescription pain meds that were prescribed and then a couple of days of Advil and I was fine. The staff has been great following-up with me (the doctor even called me to ask how I was doing). The staff has been in contact with my regular dentist keeping them up-to-date with my progress. I had a great experience. You should definitely go here. Dr. Choi was great and the dental assistant (also super nice) told me they basically only do root canals. Sounds boring but great for me, I'd obviously rather have a procedure that sometimes fails performed by someone who ultra-specializes in it. Response to other ratings: Kind of shocked at the other star ratings. The complaints seem pretty mild, taking stars off this obviously-5-star place because someone didn't say goodbye to me isn't my style. Anyway, if you need a receptionist to fawn over you, go elsewhere. I liked the receptionist. I called before scheduling an appointment and she was very informative, answering my questions quickly about how to coordinate it with my other dentist. Made what could have been a difficult experience very easy. Also, notice: 0 complaints on here about her doing her job incorrectly. I was in pain for few days and after starting antibiotics and pain pills my toothache wasn't going away and this morning I was in pain so much I couldn't take it anymore made a call to Dr. Choi office and was sitting in his chair an hour later . I'm so lucky my insurance is taken here because after reading all the great reviews I was set on coming here. I fainted at my last root canal (not in town) and never had it finished. I have anxiety going to any doctor. Dr choi was great. I got some sedation medication prior to the appointment and that really helped. Barely felt anything when the shot was administered. (Which that's where I had fainted before.) the whole procedure was great. I'm glad I had a great experience considering it's not fun to get done! read more

This is a 3-part review. On Dr. Daniel Choi: Dr. Choi was very professional and knowledgeable to my procedure. I was referred here from Fruitvale Dental in Oakland for a root canal. He explained everything with patience and even answered numerous questions I had. Two things stand out that I like the most from this experience: 1) He showed me and explained all my x-rays clearly; 2) During my root canal he was attentive to my needs, and kept asking me if i was in any discomfort, pain or if I could feel anything (he asked at least 4 times, which i thought was great). The procedure lasted about 45 minutes, so it was a great experience as far as root canals go. On the assistants: The assistants were also very professional and knowledgeable and even answered some of my questions (those they couldn't answer didn't seem like it was because they didn't know, but because it's a question best suited for the dentist to answer; I thought that very smart of the assistants to do). The assistance were nice, very careful when inserting films into mouth for the x-rays, and very patient with me. The only recommendation would be to improve on the hello's/greetings/farewells. The Dr. bid me good luck and all, but as I left the office non of the assistants or secretary did. On the Secretary (Mature Woman): When I first visited this office, my first impression was solely based on this secretary's demeanor: cold, not inviting, and straight to the point $$$. I don't want to say she was unprofessional, but she lacks customer service and politeness. She was rude without directly being rude (If that makes any sense). As I was leaving, after my root canal, I received no farewells from her or any instructions that if I should have any complications to call or go to ER. It made me feel a bit neglected and as if I was on my own there on (maybe It's just me, but I believe its good business practice to walk your patient out with the last farewells or at least say good by from the counter). I want to be clear, the doctor gave his farewells and instructions on post recover and complications. I just believe the secretary should re-enforce the care in her farewells to the patient, but like I said not even a good buy, good luck, or call if any complications.... This was a bit disappointing, which made me come straight home to write this review. It's been 2-1/2 hours since my root canal, btw, so far everything as the doctor mentioned: a little bit of swelling, numbness going down, try not to talk to avoid biting cheek. Over all I'm happy with Dr. Choi's work and the work from the assistance. Finally, a description that you can only reach doctors office by taking elevators to 2nd floor would be helpful, and even a picture of the front door would be nice. I had a two appointment root canal procedure which was finished just 2 days ago. Dr. Choi and his assistant made sure the process was comfortable for me. They would always make sure I was okay. The procedure was completely painless as well. As for the receptionist, she was very unprofessional. When I first called to make an appointment, she cut straight to the chase asking me about what insurance I was under. She never asked about how painful my tooth was feeling or even acknowledged anything of that sort. When I went it, she was at the front desk and she didn't seem very welcoming. Before I was able to go in to see Dr. Choi, she wanted all my insurance information which was understandable. She looked up the information on the computer and said I had to pay up-front. Without my parents being there, I asked if I could get the bill mailed to my house. She never said a word but looked at me and just shook her head. She even said that the best way to pay up-front is to call my mother and get all her credit card information. With the pain of my tooth being unbearable, she said I can get an X-ray. I went in to see Dr. Choi and he said he would "check" with the receptionist if I would be able to pay the co-pay my 2nd appointment which she finally "approved." My experience with Dr. Choi and the assistants were fantastic and I would recommend him to those who need root canals. Although, the receptionist to me was quite rude and unapproachable. This time I was very impressed how Dr Choi completed the procedure in less than 30 minutes (for each of two visits), and I had no pain afterwards. Dr Choi saved me! I had started my root canal with a Endodontist that i was referred too by my general DDS. Long story short my root canal treatment had dragged on for about 3 weeks I was looking for answers, I set up a consult with Dr Choi (another dentist said he sends his own family to him) i left confident that he would be able to complete my root canal and manage my pain efficiently. I made the right decision to switch Endodontist because Dr Choi finished the root canal without any problems or delay. After being left in excruciating pain for 10 days, paying hundreds of extra dollars to see multiple specialists (infection was very bad) and being out of work for two weeks, I will never trust my care to any other Endodontist. Dr Choi knows what hes doing and does not do a rush job. I will recommend him to my family and friends. read more

Pity the endodontists..... they provide a service no one wants!... not conducive to a good review. No, I didn't WANT to see Dr. Choi, but I NEEDED to see Dr. Choi for a root canal. I have TMJ and issues with breathing due to respiratory issues. I had never had a root canal, and wasn't looking forward to it. I am very pleasantly surprised. Although I had some unpleasantness with the frequent x-rays during the procedure, I felt no pain (regardless of his need to "dig around in there"). Occasionally I would open my eyes to see some scary-looking apparatus going into my mouth. And they take x-rays with needle-like instruments protruding from the now dead roots of your tooth..... yuk! After the first half of the procedure, I recovered very well with minimum pain during the next 24 hours. Nothing at all like I anticipated. AND, Dr. Choi personally called to see how I was doing the next day. The final - part 2 - took place today. Although I was uncomfortable and anxious during the procedure (my issues), I was done in less than an hour. Although there has been some swelling and mild discomfort, I'm pleasantly surprised. The discomfort from this very unpleasant procedure is less than I've experienced following more frequent and common dental procedures, so that makes me a fan! The first reviewer was surprised about the pricing procedures. I, too, was given the price before seeing the dentist. However, my primary dentist had made the referral and, perhaps, had provided information which would allow the office staff to know the price. I LIKED the fact that they told me up front what it would cost. And now, knowing that I had a "difficult" root canal, I'm glad that I was given a flat price which did not depend on unanticipated circumstances that the dentist encountered once he had started the procedure. I was sent to Dr Choi for a very difficult root canal , another dentist had done it a couple years prior , it became infected , spread to my jaw and sinus , Dr Choi was careful and gentle , the 2 procedure's were basically painless , both procedure's took about an hour each and I was seen in between for an injection to reduce the swelling , he found the problem was the original dentist had left 1 root alive and full intact and also left part of another another root he could no longer access because he broke a file off in the tooth and left it then just filled over it , so my issues were complex , scheduling was easy , staff were kind and professional , I am extremely happy I was sent to Dr Choi , if I ever need another root canal I will not hesitate to see Choice Endo read more

Dr. Choi and his staff we nice, gentle and professional. Upon check-in I was greeted with a smile by a nice young lady. I was brought in the back promptly by another nice smiling young lady. I had a Root canal procedure and was somewhat nervous. One of young ladies asked me what kind of music I liked, and she put on a station that played calming and relaxing music. After getting the anesthesia it helped calm me and numbed me well. During the procedure I was comfortable and felt no pain. It took close to an hour. Afterwards, Dr. Choi gave me a pain prescription and brief instructions and I was on my way. In previous posts I read, there were complaints about a rude receptionist. Well she's no longer there! I felt extremely rushed. The woman at the front desk is so rude and incredibly disrespectful. I was lied to my first appt and when I told her she lied she said "ANYWAYS" what a joke. First of all if someone comes in terrified how about the doctor take an extra two minutes and tell me how the procedure is going to go instead of rushing and being rude. This company seems extremely money hungry & I would not suggest going here at all. I have had all my dental work done and am so happy. I called and said it was an emergency and she said the doctor was going out of town and since my appt takes to long because I'm so damn scared she will call me later and she never did now I call for a refund and she tells me I'm getting half of it back and she will send it to me. Root canal? Makes you just want to run away and hide in a corner doesn't it...lol Being my first root canal, I did not know what to expect but was not looking forward to it. As any normal person seeing someone for their teeth, it can bring up some anxieties for most. Rest assured, he took care of any anxieties I may have had. The procedure was PAINLESS and have had no issues post op and my the side of my mouth where the root canal was done was fine after the next day or two. I've now had 2 root canals with Dr. Choi and his staff in the last 6 months. Due to my relative dread of dental visits, I put off regular exams for a few years and, lo and behold, this resulted in some severe cavities. I was referred to Dr. Choi and was apprehensive of a root canal to say the least. Do not fret. The horror stories of root canals of the past are a distant memory. The procedure didn't hurt at all and took very little time. A couple of key observations. 1) Dr. Choi is incredibly skilled with novacain shots leading to very little discomfort! 2) The office is clean and easy to get to 3) Dr. Choi is very professional and was willing to explain all that they were doing 4) Very little pain after the procedure. A huge relief following the sore tooth I've had I realize that we're not all the same and some people may experience some pain following their own procedures but I feel that, in general, my results are in line with what current root canals should be. Honestly, who wants to get a root canal or other dental procedure done? It costs money and it's not fun. That said, I wouldn't hesitate to refer anyone to Dr. Choi. read more

My first root canal was extremely easy and painless! 1. It was easy to coordinate an appointment for my root canal. The location was easily accessible. Remember to use the elevator to get to the second floor. 2. The staff was awesome. The front desk lady (Kelly?) was very helpful and very sweet to chat with before my procedure. She actually made me less nervous. They dental assistance was fast and knowledgeable. 3. Dr Choi was absolutely friendly and very informative about what I needed to keep a healthy tooth. He answered all my questions prior to the procedure. I appreciated his confidence. 4. The procedure was painless and lasted about an hour. They gave me ibuprofen before I left (afternoon time). I took a second dose of ibuprofen before bed -- I was not in pain but worried I would wake up in pain. Was referred to Dr. Choi by my dentist when a new crown (3 months old) gave me constant pain. It had become infected and was loose. Dr. Choi did a partial root canal. I returned two weeks later after being on antibiotics and he finished the root canal and saved my tooth. Doctor Choi and his staff were all very friendly and professional. I was referred to Dr. Benjamin Choi yesterday 9/28/16 last minute to have a root canal done on my #29 molar . I called his offices in Pleasant Hill and spoke with Kelley (who is FRIGGIN AMAZING by the way!). I was scared to death to have it done but knew I had to. The office staff was incredibly kind and supportive. Dr Choi has the best bed-side-manner ever, he was fast with the procedure and super gentle. I'm posting this because I read the crappy post by another patient that was complaining re a staff member who was apparently rude during his payment and check out (he felt "neglected"...) This was farthest from the truth. My experience going in AND leaving were flawlessly professional with full aftercare instructions both written and verbal from more than one staff member AND the doctor. Bottom line, payment is due at the end of services as its posted when you walk in like any other doctors office and common sense is after hours if any problems go to the ER. My tooth feels great, I feel great, no swelling no pain, and I will and would totally recommend Dr. Choi AND all of his staff to friends, family & acquaintances!
