Dr Galvan is very gentle, makes certain you are comfortable & not experiencing any pain (which always used to terrify me at other dentists). so far today was my 3rd appt & it was great- not to mention the crowns he put on my lower front teeth look so great! also, his staff & his front desk (miz Kathy & Crystahl) are really funny & friendly. his dental assistants are pleasant & also very friendly. his office in concord will continue to be my go-to dental practice. Terrible experience with Galvan Dental. The customer service is unprofessional and shows no consideration for patients' time. I was only 15 minutes late because I had to drop off my wife and got stuck in traffic due to roadwork, but the owner told me they "usually give 10 minutes" then refused to see me and tried to reschedule me again, saying I'd have to wait another 6 months just to get a cleaning. After already waiting months for this appointment, that's completely unacceptable. It's clear they really don't care about your dental health, only about their schedule. No wonder they only have 3.5 stars on Yelp. I wish I had checked before wasting my time. They have other branches too, so I'd strongly warn other customers not to go to any of them. Their care quality and office experience are both the worst and no one of. Before I went to their clinic for first time on 12/14, I called multiple times to make sure they are a legit provider in my dental ins.. I then went in and handed them my ins. card which has details of my ins. number and contact info of my insurer. However, after the dentist told me the treatments I need, their officer came to tell me how much I need to pay out of my pocket, and she told me she hadn't been able to contact my insurer but she will keep trying to get correct details of my coverage. At the end, she didn't do that, and she even chose to tell me she simply decided not to after being redirected multiple times on the call. I went home and waited more than 2 weeks and asked my insurer to call the dentist office to ask for the progress of the claim filing, the dentist office never picked up the calls. I continued to wait for a month. I called my insurer again and they still haven't received the claim from the dentist office which supposedly had been mailed out from CA to WA. I called back to their office and asked to talk to their owner or manager, the another officer, Cathy, recognized who I am and refused to redirect me. I asked them to resubmit the claim and Cathy refused to do that. I didn't expect this kind of attitude so I mentioned I will seek legal advice if they don't let me address concerns to their manager. Cathy immediately hang me up. Not to mention my past dentists in SF always gave me detailed information about my coverage even multiple times during treatments. If you care about your money, believe the dental office should offer better experience especially about the payments and with good communications with the insurer, don't want to be denied for additional claims and reporting concerns, and believe we all deserve basic respect, simply don't go to Steve Galvan DDS in Concord and Fairfield. Another absurd thing from them is during my 2nd appointment which was before Cathy and I had the call, I told the dentist their officer didn't even reach out to my insurer to find about the coverage, not to mention helped me find out details for next treatment he suggested. After that, they sent me a mail telling me Dr. Steve Galvan decide to stop being my dentist, and I shall call my insurance company to find another dentist. read more

I had a broken tooth and Dr. Galvan was listed as one of the accepted dentist under my insurance plan. I called and made an appointment with Crystel and she was very helpful and friendly. When I arrived at my appointment the receptionist was in the back and it was right after lunch, but Dr. Galvan came out and greeted me and told me someone would be right with me. The check in process was easy as they have the forms online for patients to print out and complete before hand. I was brought back and had xrays and history taken by the RDA Marvin, I think that was his name. Dr. Galvan came in and was very professional and went over the xrays with me. (Side note: they have a cool tool where they take actual pictures of your tooth so you can see exactly what the doctor is looking at). I was very impressed with Dr. Galvan and his staff with how friendly, professional and welcoming they were. I followed up with Dr. Galvan to get my broken tooth, which happened to be my wisdom tooth removed, and they were once again very helpful and friendly. No one likes going to the dentist, and I have gone to a lot of dentists office that are very bland and he staff isn't friendly and the doctor just comes in and leaves very quickly and doesn't explain the treatment plan very well. Dr. Galvan and his team are not like other offices. Like I said, I felt comfortable and at ease both times I have been in his office and his staff is always friendly. read more

I feel scammed as well. Went to a five star dentist previously when I was working for a hospital and the dentist didn't ever report any cavities. Then has to switch to covered ca due to job change and this was the few clinics open during the pandemic but all of a sudden I had five cavities after not seeing a dentist for only six months ? And then now I switched insurance again to another more reputable dentist who said I didnt have any cavities despite not having a check up in over a year and have zero cavities with no symptoms? Steven Galvan filled all of my "cavities". I worked for an anesthesiologist who was like this too and I can sense that he was looking for things to bill the dental insurance to make money. It sucks to be exploited bc now that he has drilled into my teeth that I didn't feel like was medically necessary to fill , the filling will just keep having to be replaced regularly as opposed to my previously likely intact tooth :( I am deeply saddened by this whole experience to be truthful. I wish I never stepped foot into this clinic. Please go elsewhere guys, don't be taken advantage of like me. read more

I should have checked Yelp but only checked Google for reviews. My husband had not been to the dentist in 10+ years. I called to schedule his appointment and explained that he was nervous but saw their great reviews and trusted they would take care of him. We have MetLife and they confirmed they were in network. At the appointment, my husband let me know that he had to wait 15 minutes before being taken back. From there, they took x-rays and he had to wait again for the doctor to come in.. The appointment was 1.5 hours and they didn't even do a regular cleaning. He was recommended to get a deep cleaning, crown, etc. What bothered me the most (as a previous office manager for a dental office) is their shady fees. My husband has dual insurance which means that his primary insurance picks up a portion and mine picks up the rest. Dr. Galvan is trying to cheat the system and added an additional "upcharge" for a zirconia crown in the amount of $375. This created an out of pocket charge that we shouldn't have. He recommended other treatment that was ridiculous as well. Afterwards I called a few other offices in the area and was able to schedule a follow-up appointment with a regular cleaning and no upcharge for crowns. This office is horrible and shady and wanted to charge us many "fees", totalling $700 about our 2 insurance plans. I will also be calling MetLife to let them know that you are charging additional fees outside of your agreed upon contract. read more

I had no choice to attend this office because of Covered CA, this provider was given to me. - Staff, was ok, the front desk is almost out the front door and waiting room is crammed. Strip mall parking is terrible. - X-rays, which I am not a fan of, were a nightmare of a process. The technician had-to-have-been 'brand-new' and she had to re-adjust the mouth piece SEVERAL times because the were not accurate enough. It took too long and painful to sit through. - The cleaning was done by the dentist. I had never had sonic cleaning before, and this was painful as well. I let him know I was not comfortable with the sensation because my teeth are sensitive and he assured me it was almost done... several times... he was nowhere near done. Poor communication and lack of concern for patient. - Thankfully, I am able to return to my old dentist because I don't have to deal with Covered CA anymore, and I was told I needed to go in and sign the waiver for the release at Galvan office. I filled out the paper-work and was told the x-rays would be emailed. A few hours later, I get a call back saying there is a $50 charge to release the x-rays. They tried to get payment over the phone, and I said I would come in to pay. I then called my current dentist back and asked if they have heard of a payment to get my own x-rays that my insurance already paid for, and they said they rarely hear about this and that typically offices 'might-charge' a minimal fee of $5-15... NOT $50! Rip-off!!! Please read through the other 1-star reviews (there are several), they are not family or Steven G himself, giving himself 5-stars. I will also report this to Covered CA, as I feel I have already paid for the x-rays through my insurance but they are getting additional fees because patients are leaving their office for viable reasons, so why not spite them on the way out. read more

Agree with some of the other low ratings here, this place is not interested in your well being and is only trying to get into your pockets!!! I visited Steve Galvans office after chipping a tooth.. They did a great job of scaring me into believing my tooth were ruined beyond any reasonable repairs, and that I would need to shave down 5 other teeth to tiny nubs in order to get crowns put on... They also said to match the color, I would need to shave down the 11 other front teeth and get crowns on these as well. For this, they quoted me $9000 and sent me on my way with very unclear instructions on what was to happen next... When I talked to the insurance billing lady at the office, she replied that I should NOT contact my insurance company before them, and that I should only seek insurance approval for 2 out of 5 of the damaged teeth, because "it would look fishy, and the insurance company will not approve." Lying to my insurance company about a legitimate injury to my mouth was a HUGE red flag, and makes all the more sense now... Truth is, I didn't need ANY crowns, and this is why they were not willing to submit all 5 damaged teeth for approval - all while making me believe that 16 of my natural teeth would need to be shaved down, and that I would pay 9k for full mouth reconstruction,....this was not the case however... After getting a second opinion from several dental school friends, and researching local dentists - I found Dr. Todd Loftin a mile away, who did his undergrad at Berkeley and dental school at UCSF (one of americas top 5 dental schools).. All of my dental school friends, and Dr. Loftin said the treatment plan from Steve Galvan was absolutely ridiculous...... STEVE GALVAN WAS GOING TO SHAVE ALL OF MY TEETH TO ROB ME OF 9 GRAND, FOR NO NECESSARY REASON! I got this repaired by Todd Loftin, who took a week to see because understandably, the good dentists are all booked.. He fixed my chipped tooth perfectly for my $50 insurance deductible, explained to me that my teeth would not crumble in 2 months if I did this (which is what Dr. Galvan said would happen), and I even got my teeth whitened with him in the process.. All is as good as new.. my smile looks better than ever.. and I am so relieved that I did not let Steve Galvan rob me. read more

They get 2 stars because the staff was very nice. This place is a scam. I recently moved and wanted to find a dental office close to home. I went in and was informed I have needed 10 filling and a crown because I had a filling that needed to be replaced but it was so big my tooth would crumble and would need a crown. What?? Then I get my treatment plan that was incredibly high. This is a dentist on my insurance network, why is it so high? Well they only do white fillings and my insurance doesn't cover white fillings. Anyway. I got my xrays emailed to my old dentist (who I loved but didn't want to travel to) and after being reexamined found I have 2 very small fillings and 1 to watch and absolutely no need for a crown. Obviously a dentist would not turn away thousands of dollars worth of work. I am reporting this place to the BBB. This is a chop shop for dental work! Patients beware. read more

This guy is a joke and scam artist. Please do not come to this hole in the wall. They overcharge you and double charge you. I made the mistake of not listening to the bad reviews. I needed a crown for my root canal and this guy came up as covered thru my insurance. Biggest most expensive mistake. They took unnecessary x rays to milk more money out of me, then told me I needed another root canal! After that, I knew I had to switch. I went to a reputable dentist down the road and I should've went to her in the first place. This office is has old equipment and the appointments are very long. They keep you waiting and they don't pay attention to you. The staff talks amongst themselves and barely check to see if you're ok. Please do yourself a favor and save yourself money by avoiding this scam of a "dentist". My new dentist has treated me with respect and care. Their equipment and staff are overwhelmingly nice. My experience with Galvan dental was quite the contrary. If you ignore this review, you will feel the greed seeping from every person in this office. I have been going to Galvan Dental for a little over 2 years now. I love Dr. Steve Galvan because he truly educates his patients about what he's doing to their teeth and the reasons he recommends them. They always call me whenever I have an appointment coming up or send me post cards instead. About 2 months ago, I decided to finally get invisalign as my teeth badly needed them. I love that I can take my aligners whenever I eat and floss normally. Plus, a lot of people can't even tell that I have them on. I highly recommend Dr. Galvan and his friendly staff. read more

I had to, unfortunately, switch insurance and found Dr. Galvan after seeing such good reviews. First of all, getting an appointment was terrible, I had to wait for 3 months to be seen. contacting the office is not easy either since they split the doctor and staff between 2 locations, the other being in Fairfield I believe. On the day of my appointment, I waited at least 20 minutes to be seen. I was taken back, given very uncomfortable xrays with a huge bulky machine in my mouth. The nice lady giving me the xrays was a temp and it was her first day there. I waited for an hour in the chair with assurances, from the lady who took 20 minutes to take xrays, that the doctor would be with me shortly. I waited for an hour and had to leave with no cleaning! Apparently, the doctor didn't know that I was his patient! It's a very small office, I'm not sure how this happens. I rescheduled for the following week, because I decided to give them another try. The day of my cleaning, the dentist cleaned my teeth which was strange for me, he used some hydro-blast machine and that is all. I have always had great visits but was told this time, I had gum disease and would be referred to gum specialist. When I tried to make a 6 month appointment, I was told they would contact me, that never happened. Luckily, I got new insurance and was told my gums are fine and he should have hand scaled cleaned my teeth after they hydro-blasted. My husband was refused a cleaning and sent a referral to a gum specialist right away, but our new dentist was able to do a cleaning with no issue. This dentist seems really shady and LOVES his gum specialist referrals - WATCH OUT! read more

I've been going to Dr. Galvan since 2011 and I couldn't be happier. Amazing work ethics. Patient friendly with caring and accredited staff. Very close knit patient/team relationship. Everyone from the front desk to the all staff are very friendly. Every time I need to come in, the office staff and assistants are so nice. I love how they always welcome me back and make me feel like a family. I appreciate their flexibility with me. I can always call them to schedule appointments I usually come in on Fridays afternoon when I already had my sleep or after work @ 9am. But sometimes I messed up on a few schedules in the past but never made me feel guilty. They always help me make an easy financial plans for me (and I like that). Dr. Galvan patiently explain every procedure that is being done and what other option I have. He takes time to ask me if I have any question or concerns. He is very careful during procedures and always asked how I feel. He has a gentle hands that would ease anyone's fear of dentist ( like me cause I hate needles). My whole family has been going to Galvan Family Dental Center for many years. We are absolutely satisfied with Dr Steve's work. He sits beside us before procedures and takes time to ask us if we have questions or concerns. He also explains what will be done and what other options we have. I've been a patient of Dr. G for a while now and have never had an issue. Everyone is great and really nice as soon as you walk in but.. Michelle, man.. Michelle is the hygienist there and is A M A Z I N G !!! Talk about service with a smile, man. She's always in a great mood and has a positive attitude whenever I come in for a routine cleaning. Let me start off by saying that, I've never ever been afraid of the dentist, even as a kid. Ive always had really nice teeth but i used to not care about taking reeeally good care of them. The first time i met Michelle, I was really overdue for a cleaning and had to get a deep cleaning instead. i was kinda freaked out by how bad I let my teeth get and she assured me that i had nothing to worry about and that i was in great hands before she started. And she was right. She gave me recommendations on tooth brushes and how i can brush my teeth better. She also didn't make me feel bad for taking poor care of my teeth, not that any of the staff would do that, but she was just focusing more on the positives and getting my teeth really clean. This dentist was the absolute worst. I changed dentists and chose this office as my new dental provider. They told me I had 8 cavities when 6 months prior (my old dentist) had found zero cavities. Of course you dont know who to believe so I paid to have them all filled. I had to go to the office four times in one month . Within one week one of my fillings fell out. Also in the course of getting all these "cavities" filled they cracked one of my teeth, they claimed it was a coincidence and they were not responsible. However they had filled a tooth directly touching the tooth that somehow mysteriously cracked. They tried to sell me invisalign non stop when my teeth are almost perfectly straight minus a barely noticeable tooth on the bottom. I had braces for years and my teeth look beautiful, there is no reason for invisalign and for their constant sales push. More than this I have nice well taken care of teeth all around. I cant imagine what it must be like for people with actual teeth issues to go to this dentist. Do yourself a favor and dont go here. Dont be fooled by the friendly staff, it doesnt matter if they are friendly if your teeth start falling out from their dental services. read more

I recently decided to try changing dentists because my current one, while competent and friendly, seemed to be getting unduly expensive.  So I signed up for an insurance plan offered by Costco.  The insurance carrier assigned me to Steve Galvan on Clayton Road in Concord and I scheduled a cleaning.  At my initial visit, the hygienist immediately began to polish my teeth.  I expressed surprise and asked her why she was not first using a scraper to take off the tarter before polishing.  Her answer was that she was not qualified to do that.  Really?  Later Dr. Galvan arrived with a male assistant.  His manner was brusque and unwelcoming.  He cleaned my teeth with some sort of high pressure water device, then began to measure the depth of my gum pockets.  He said I had a lot of 5's and perhaps one 8.  Level 5 is a concern for periodontal disease.  He told me that my teeth were bad and dirty and that I should see a periodontist for a deep cleaning.  I was shocked because many dentists over the years have always said I had exceptionally good teeth.  Dr. Galvan seemed to ignore a missing filling that needed to be replaced, focusing instead on a periodontist referral.  By that time I had become skeptical about his honesty, so I instead returned to my previous dentist.  There I got a proper cleaning and had my gum pockets rechecked.  The depths were mostly 3's with a couple of 5's.  I was informed that my teeth were very good for my age and that a deep cleaning by a periodontist was unnecessary.  She also replaced my missing filling.  Bottom line, I did not have a good feeling about Dr. Galvan.  Rightly or wrongly, I felt that his primary goal was to steer me to a colleague for expensive and unnecessary dental work.  Perhaps he noted my age (78) and thought it would be easy to scare me.  This impression is perhaps speculative on my part, but my personal suggestion would be to avoid this office and look elsewhere for your dental needs.  I realize that Dr. Galvan appears to have received high recommendations on certain websites, but that is certainly not consistent with my experience. read more

This Dr. office is pretty great. The staff is amazing. Dr. Steve informs you of everything he sees in your exrays, explains it so that you can understand and tells what his recommendation is. I've read the one star reviews, and while I was also told I needed a deep cleaning before we could fix my broken tooth, and that there were a few other fillings cavities and a crown that was needed, he also showed me this on the xrays. Some of the materials used are not covered by insurance, but I do prefer the more natural looking materials as well as the stronger more durable that they use for crowns. While the cost may be kind of high, the quality of service and materials seems as if its worth it. I have a huge issue with dental phobia and they sure do make it a little bit easier with each visit. I do recommend them and I plan on proceeding with the treatment Dr. Steve suggests. read more

My mom and I have been going to Dr. Galvin since 2007 (7 yrs now). I switch between the Fairfield or Concord office depending on if I'm coming from home or work and I appreciate their flexibility with me. The office staff and assistants are always so nice and I love how they always welcome me back and make me feel like family when I come for my visits. I will admit my out of pocket portion for my services do feel a bit expensive considering I have both Humana and GEHA dental insurance, but overall I am happy with my smile. I got invisible r from Dr. Galvin and my smile looks a million times better than before. They are always flexible will work with you on payment plans. My only major complaint is the color mismatch of my crowns that show when I smile. I wish I could have made the decision about the color before he ordered them, but the fit is good and I have no problems. Other than that I am shocked to read the poor reviews and negative experiences from other patients because my experiences have been positive. read more

Possible one of the best experiences I have ever had. I was terrible with my teeth and had a bad wake up call. One of my molers broke and I needed some serious workl. I have been going here for about 10 years now. From my routine cleanings, fillings, my horrible wisdom teeth discovery and lastly my invisiligns! Dr. Steve has walked me through it all and I have absolutely no complaints. :) My teeth are now sparkling white and as straight as they can be thanks to him and his amazing staff! For those complaining, if you don't want to be told that you have cavities and what not its as simple as brushing your teeth twice a day, getting checked up regularly and floss!
