He saved my partner in crime from having to be hospitalized for weeks in a hospital when the Covid 19 was rampant. He checked on him weekly and gave him hope that this too shall pass. His recovery due to pneumonia and sepsis took months and Dr. Newman was there every step of the way. As for me, I have been a patient for decades. When other asthma doctors did not know what to do except pile on the Cortisone which had dozens of unwanted side effects, Dr. Newman was willing to investigate multiple treatments. He does not use on size fits all. Each patient is treated like an individual. He does not stop until he gives everything he has got. He learns all the new medications as they come out and tries them out to see which one is the right fit for you. An avid scuba diver, Dr. Newman treats divers all over the world. He has also treated Olympians who needed relief to compete in swimming and other sports. Dr. Newman is associated with Stanford and has been on staff for years. I cannot say enough good things about this Doctor. He is the epitome of what an excellent Doctor should be and often today are not.

On the day of the appointment, I was initially seen by a PA, Siobhan Finn. I assumed she was simply taking notes before I spoke with Dr. Yu, but instead, she proceeded to take over the entire visit. During our discussion, she even told me I didn't need a medication that Dr. Yu had previously prescribed. The call ended, leaving me confused and frustrated. At no point was I informed that Dr. Yu would not be seeing me, and ultimately, I didn't receive the medication I had scheduled the appointment for. A few weeks later, I attempted to contact Dr. Yu through the Sutter Health Message Center. Instead of hearing from her directly, I received a response from someone named Dominique. I explained the situation and asked if I could speak with Dr. Yu without being unexpectedly replaced again. Dominique informed me that I could--but only if I paid an additional charge for a separate visit. This is incredibly poor customer service on multiple levels. I never had the opportunity to speak with the doctor I had scheduled my appointment with. I was never notified that she would not be available. And, I did not receive the medication I originally sought care for. To make matters worse, when I checked the "Appointments and Visits" section in the Sutter Health online portal, I noticed a record of a telephone visit with Siobhan Finn from this past week, late February--yet I never had such a call. I'm willing to give Dr. Yu the benefit of the doubt, but it is highly unprofessional not to inform patients when a doctor will be unavailable. Trust is a fundamental aspect of patient care, and failing to communicate this--whether personally or through an unreliable front desk--is unacceptable.

Now about the care I received. Dr. Agarwal is highly knowledgeable and was willing to ask all of the hundreds of questions I had. What I would recommend for patients is, Dr. Agarwal can speak a bit fast so do pay attention or ask him to repeat or slow down if needed. TL;DR: If you have severe environmental/pollen allergies like me, please see a different doctor…read more The front desk and injection folks here are extremely nice! I enjoyed coming here because of them and if I could review their service alone, I would give them 5 stars. The medical practice here however, is questionable and outdated. I have severe environmental allergies. The person taking my test actually told me I had the worst reaction they've ever seen. Dr. Chu, although friendly, decided I needed to be put through allergy injections. At first, I was progressing through my injections well but this stalled and I even went backwards in my progress after a while. I was constantly going up and down in dosage because my reactions were bad. I was being given one shot in each arm to cover my entire list of environmental allergies. My reactions towards the end were terrible. My injection site would swell up to itchy golf ball sized lumps. After almost two years of coming weekly, and me stalling in progress, I decided to see another doctor. This new doctor was shocked that Dr. Chu was giving me only two shots and said it made sense I had such terrible reactions (turns out I needed my injections mixed into 4 weekly shots, not 2). They were also shocked Dr. Chu did not prescribe me an epipen. The new standard when receiving allergy treatments is to carry an epipen with you for the car ride home. I basically could have died if I continued with Dr. Chu's treatments. After starting over my treatment with this new doctor, my reactions have been less severe and I have not had to get my dosage adjusted down at any point. Progression at this new doctor is steady and I reached my maintenance dose in under a year which is not something I would have ever been able to do with Dr. Chu.

The visit was underwhelming, strange, and exorbitantly charged for the services rendered. My husband and I sat there while Dr. Chu probed and prodded, and pondered whether my eczema was because of scabies. His energy was questionable and curt, and that would've been fine if it weren't for how uncertain he conveyed everything. At the end, we weren't able to walk away with a confident diagnosis, and he ended up prescribing some corticosteroid meds. I checked in with him if it was safe to take because of my pregnancy, and he confirmed that it was. When I arrived at the pharmacy to pick those up, the pharmacist took a second look and concernedly asked if I was sure I wanted to take this on account of the side effects that it may have produced during my pregnancy. I decided against it and to ride out my symptoms. The visit ended up being a complete waste of time and energy, and although I ended up with a more reasonable co-pay thanks to my insurance adjustments, the original charge ended up being $482.00. For a bizarre experience.

It was a little sketchy, the way the RNP brought in the two sleep test results and told us that one would get my gf qualified for a CPAP and the other wouldn't. I have a feeling that she was going to tell my gf (if I hadn't been there) that because the one didn't qualify her that she was out of luck. She agreed to use the test results that qualified her, so thank goodness for that. My GF has been using a CPAP for over 5 years and CANNOT sleep without it. The fact that it was questionable at all makes me wonder if it is the insurance companies doing that thing where they think they know what's best for your health based on how much it is going to cost them. Such bullshit. Anywho...my gf got approved for her CPAP and all accessories. SWEET. If my GF wasn't strapped with medi-cal and had more of a choice, then we would go somewhere else.
