Dr. V is awesome. That said, it's impossible to get/reschedule an appointment with her because the front office staff is a hot mess. I have called countless times and never been put in contact with a human being. Once you navigate their arcane phone tree, you are greeted with a recording that "we are currently assisting other patients." Not likely. You will then be asked to leave a message with pertinent information and promised a return call. I have now done so over 5 times and NEVER received a callback. I am still trying to reschedule an appointment that was rescheduled (by them, no less) over a week ago. UPDATE: Yesterday I received a robocall from their office, asking me to confirm I would be at the appointment THEY HAD CANCELED. Dealing with the so-called office has become surreal. read more

Updating my review (April 25, 2018): 2013 was my last review, happily writing another review for his office. I could not emphasise enough of the astonishing care that is given by Dr. Murthy and his staff. Amber- (part of his staff)- is very friendly and takes the time to explain procedures, the tests that will be performed, and what to expect. I love her. I always feel well taken care of during my appointments. Dr. Murthy is very meticulous about his diagnosis and thinks out loud. I can appreciate that. He includes you in his thought process. He types up his thoughts and notes on your prognosis to your file in your presence. I have developed pleurisy twice now in just the past few months. He shows great concern and monitors me closely, communicates with my cardiologist , and takes the necessary precautions to be proactive. I have pulmonary hypertension, accompanied by Lupus and other ailments. I feel that I am under great care. I could not express enough gratitude for Dr. Murthy and his entire staff. This office also operates South County Sleep Clinic. I did an over night observation 5 yrs. ago. THE BEST night's sleep I have ever had! HAHA!! Found out that I have sleep apnea. I feel truly blessed to have Dr. Murthy as my pulmonologist. Lucky to have Dr. Murthy on my team. Hands down! The best! The time and effort he puts in to trying to accommodate my asthma and laundry list of illnesses. I started off as his patient and somehow by default started seeing Dr. Salfen in the same office. Dr. Salfen retired and luckily I returned to Dr. Murthy..haha! I love that he converses with my other doctors as a team to investigate my situation. My Lupus issues falls in line into my cardiologist (Dr. Madala) and then Dr. Murthy. They put their brilliant minds together to come to an outcome and solution. It definitely feels like a team. I feel the care and attention in this office. The receptionist/nurses are AH-Mazing!! My favorite peeps ;-) They go above and beyond to schedule you, do a PFT, and handle your billing in the best way. When I did the sleep clinic a couple years ago, I had THE best night's read more

I had lung issues, so I intensely searched online for a pulmonologist and I found Dr. Murthy on top of my list. The first appointment I got was 48 days later still waited, after few meetings with him I felt so happy that my wait was really worth it. Dr. Murthy brings such a welcoming, pleasant atmosphere to all of his patients. His office is very clean, inviting, and well organized. I have tons of appreciation for Dr. Murthy, he is the most thorough, kindest, compassionate, honest doctor adored with in-depth knowledge of every issue in his field, I would place him in the rock star caliber. Dr. Murthy diligently cares and is genuinely interested in the overall best care for his patients. He is so hardworking and devotional to his profession He always involved me and my husband in the discussions and would answer all our confusions and clarify them all. He would record all the findings and also the future actions to be taken and I was given a copy before leaving each time. Now wait is not a problem and all meetings and testing is done promptly as needed. His staff is so courteous, caring, and prompt to help with empathy, they go above and beyond to help the customers. Amber & Adam both are very professional and cheerful too. Adam would make use of every second of a minute, I was truly impressed with his multitasking skills. Amber is polite and jovial, she welcomes patients with a smile, making them so comfortable. Under Dr. Murthy's treatment, I feel very comfortable, my cough and wheezing both have improved. I can not stress it enough, that when you require a pulmonologist, Dr. Murthy is the absolute best, he is profoundly positive and overall a GREAT HUMAN BEING. We, BLESS HIM for his continued most deserving success. Manjula Bhagi read more

Like a few other folks have experienced I met Dr Murthy in the ICU. The one thing that irritated the heck out of me was their insistence that I must have sleep apnea. I don't have it and never have. My problem turned out to be something else altogether. But he does have a good bedside manner and seems to be very thorough. I would recommend him if you need a pulmonologist or if you have sleep apnea I suppose. read more

Dr. Murthy. I have wonderful things to say about him though most of my care with him I cannot remember. I was put in the ICU and intubated (he did a great job!) thanks to complications from my chemo treatments. I was sedated and woke up about a month later. From what I hear, my health was very touch and go day to day and Dr. Murthy along with my other doctors helped saved my life! When I woke up, I remember Dr. Murthy coming to see me and talking with me. He came to see me once at 4am too! He wasn't just concerned with my breathing but with my emotional well-being as well, my anxiety, my insomnia, my inability to eat, etc.. He took care to explain things to my parents, taking them aside and showing them my X-rays, encouraging them regarding my health and to take care of themselves as well and even when I was back on the Oncology floor he came to see me. My heart will forever be with Dr. Murthy. He is very professional yet compassionate and personable and his skills as a doctor are fabulous! I am alive because of his amazing skills! I hope I am never in the ICU again but if I am I would only want Dr. Murthy to take care of me. If you choose him as your doctor, you will not be disappointed! read more

Dr. Murthy is AMAZING!!! I have just been through the most frightening 6 month's of my life and Dr. Murthy was there from emergency surgery at Good Sam and is still going strong. Lung disease is scary enough but steroids are even scarier. I always leave my appointments feeling heard and with all of my questions answered. The front office is wonderful and MaryAnne has such a wonderful and personable bedside manner. read more

I was so pleased with Dr. Murthy, that I had to immediately write this review. He spent about 30 minutes with me, going over my Sleep Study results collected from another doctor. He took the time to go through my history, examine me, and go into detail about the Sleep Study results. He explained all the numbers, charts, and percentages and was very clear about what he thought we should so next AND why we should go that route. I was impressed because the previous doctor I saw did NONE of that. The previous doctor simply said 'you have sleep apnea.' I actually felt like Dr. Murthy was actually interested in treating me. Note, the previous sleep specialist I saw talked to me less than 10 minutes over 3 visits! In one of those 3 visits all he told me was 'you have sleep apnea...we need to setup an appt for a CPAP titration.' That Appt lasted 2 minutes! What a waste of my time and gas! They could have told me that over the phone! WTF? Mind you, this was the first visit to see Dr. Murthy. I'm hoping I receive the same level of care moving forward. We're off to a great start though... read more

Attempted a visit at the Morgan Hill location. Heard good things about Dr. Murthy from my primary physician and made an appointment. Auto system kept reminding me often via email and voicemail of my appointment. Seemed like a very organized operation. But sadly like others here, I was never able to meet Dr. Murthy due to his poor front office staff member. At their encouragement I arrived 15-20 minutes early and signed-in. No one was there to speak with. Occasionally an office person came to the front and called someone in but didn't acknowledge me, even 40 minutes AFTER my scheduled appointment. AFTER SITTING THERE WAITING FOR AN HOUR I LEFT AND WILL FIND AN ALTERNATIVE. Not Dr. Murthy's fault but he REALLY needs to improve his front desk. Patient's time is as valuable as theirs. A simple acknowledgement that I was there, or explanation that they were sorry but running a bit late, would have avoided me leaving and the whole thing would have been fine. But the lady that came out to the front once every 15 minutes or so really needs customer service training as she completely ignored those waiting even though they were running very, very late. Tried to talk to her but was blown off as she scampered to hide in the back office. Here's the kicker: No one ever called to follow-up to see why I left. Clearly they could care less and must have far more patients than they can handle. read more

Dr. Harish Murthy has overseen and managed my mother's total care since Feb. 2004, when she suffered from septic shock after a bypass surgery, resulting in an anoxic brain injury. Whether in our nearly monthly office visits or during daily hospitalization monitoring, Dr. Murthy's attention and dedication to my entire family is unparalleled. I am convinced that my mother's impressive recovery and continuing progress is attributable, in large part, to Dr. Murthy's diligent care. The longer we know him, the more impressed with him we become. Anyone would be lucky to have him as your doctor. My mom is LIVING proof!!!! read more

Great doctor and very personable, also seems just like a genuinely good person. I had to bring my kids with me to my follow up today, and the nurses and doctor were so friendly and accommodating. I have worked with Amber who seems to do a little of everything in the office. She is always friendly, patient and very thorough. I have never felt rushed even when everyone seems very busy. I highly recommend Dr. Murthy and his office. read more

I have been a patient for over 1 1/2 years with COPD. About a month ago I was having breathing problems I called DR Murthy a few times but no response. I was admitted to ER and diagnosed with Pneumonia, prescribed antibiotics and released. 3 weeks ago I began having breathing problems again I called Dr Murthy but no response. I ended up in ER and diagnosed with lung compromise. Dr Tseng treated me in the hospital. They admitted me and began steroid treatment after 1 week they released me with reducing steroid treatment. Today pretty much back to normal. Murthy was NOOOOOOOOOOOO Help read more

A urologist recommended a sleep study at El Camino in Los Gatos. There was no contact prior to the sleep study by Dr. Murthy, only the person scheduling who could not answer any questions other than logistics. The study itself was poorly managed in many respects. Follow up calls to Murthy's office have been politely handled with promises that he would contact me. It's been over a week with no call from Murthy. That's not the standard of patient care I've received from other Bay Area MDs. Based on the other review on Yelp, I'm sure he's busy. We all are. read more

Dr. Murthy is a specialist in pulmonary matters and sleep studies. He is a thorough and caring health professional. He will spend as much time with you as is necessary, which leads to the only problem I have with him. He is a time generalist. In five visits to him, he has never been less than forty minutes late. Last week I waited a half hour with no word at all from the inner sanctum and decided I had consumed all the time I had allocated for sitting in doctor's offices, so I left. I'm truly sorry that I can't find a way to accomodate his tardiness, as he is really a fine doctor. read more

Harish Murthy is, by far, one of the most caring physicians that I have met. He is genuinely compassionate and caring toward his patients. He will take the time to ask questions, listen to you and he will even impart some wisdom and really valuable information to you, along the way. He is really outstanding. Absolutely amazing at what he does, and I am so, so grateful that I have him as a physician. It is refreshing to say, the least. read more

This doctor is TERRIBLE. I've had sleep apnea and snoring/breathing problems that have affected me nearly my entire life and I went to see this doctor who specializes in sleep disorders to hopefully resolve the issues. I just got home from the appointment with him earlier today. I waited for nearly an hour after my appointment time and when I finally met with him to discuss my diagnostic polysomnography sleep test results, I learned he had not even take the time beforehand to look at the results before meeting with me...he briefly skimmed over the test results, had a rude rushed attitude when I asked questions, and in addition answered 2 phone calls right in the middle of the consultation. To top it off when I asked about some other minor health problems I am having, instead of taking a look and at least giving me a little basic advice/diagnosis he quickly jotted down referrals and ended the conversation. He was clearly more interested in rushing me out and scheduling a follow up test (the results of which he will again likely not review before I come back into the office) He runs his office like a machine production line and treats his patients like commodities and not humans in need of attentive care. As I can see from the other reviews, I'm not the only dissatisfied patient of his. PLEASE do yourself a favor and see a different doctor. I can honestly say this was some of the worst medical care I've ever received. I'm considering sending him a strongly worded hand written letter to let him know what a terrible doctor he is and also considering submitting a scathing complaint to the California Medical Board. read more

I went to this Doctor for several years, during which time he failed to correctly diagnose my pulmonary fibrosis, but insisted i use inhalers which gave me seriously disabling side effects. When I told him about these he did not connect them to the meds but told me to continue using them. When I asked about attending breathing classes he waved the idea aside as unhelpful for me. I changed to a new pulmy last week who has diagnosed PF and says the meds I was taking were useless and inappropriate. He strongly recommends breathing exercises and has given me a referral to a wonderful program of rehab at El Camino hospital. I have started playing harmonica and dumped the drugs, and feel better than I have for years already. I wish I had changed a long time ago. read more

This my second appointment. I've been sitting here waiting for over an hour and a half. I had an appointment last week and I waited about 40 minutes. The reception staff has repeatedly told me that the doctor is running late and it's his fault. I mean don't get me wrong he's a great doctor, but it's hard to appreciate when I'm so pissed off. read more

I went to see Dr. Murthy after I had specifically asked my PCP to find someone to help me use my CPAP machine more effectively. The first visit I had with Dr. Murthy went extremely well. He reviewed my earlier sleep study, and understood my frustration with the last provider. I specifically talked to him about how I do not want to have a relationship that is all about selling me supplies, but instead offers the opportunity to learn how to use equipment the best and helps me figure out the best way of using the CPAP consistently (instead of for a couple of hours a night.) After the first session, Dr. Murthy told me that someone from his office would call me about how to use the equipment better, teach me, and help me find better solutions. She did not call. I went to a second, follow-up meeting that also went well, and discussed my frustration again at not getting the kind of help I asked for. He again promised to have someone from the office call me. Several weeks later she left me a voicemail asking who I would like to buy supplies for. I left her a voicemail in return, as reaching her in person never happened, and explained what I wanted for support and my desire not to simply be a supply customer to a company. She then left me a couple more similar messages, eventually letting me know that a supply company would call me. Next, I received voicemail from a supply company wanting to sell me supplies. I now believe that sleep specialists are all about selling supplies, not helping the patient get the best results. I am disappointed with Dr. Murthy. Now that he has $800 of my money, I still do not have the support I requested and am no longer seeing him. read more

I agree with other reviewers about office staff. They are not professional. I have started this process since June. My other Drs are waiting for Dr. Murthy assessment on the issues. So no one can proceed and I am in terrible pain. I made an appt back in June however the first available appt was Sept. First time that I called i was transferred to voicemail. i got a called back by a rude guy that he made it seem I was wasting his time. I have never seen or talk to this guy so obviously he has some serious issues. In Sept, I saw Dr Murthy for 15mins only to be told to come back for sleep test. I went to front desk to schedule the appt. The rude guy said next appt will be Dec. My primary DR and insurance think that is senseless amount time to wait to get a sleep test especially when I have been having so many issues. Therefore my dr requested the notes from Dr Murthy office. My Dr office stated they have tried every day to get those notes with no luck. So I talked to Lauren only to find out she was slacking on her job and didn't fax them until I chewed out her dumb a&&. She had the nerves to lie to me. first she said she was waiting for dr notes. I asked what notes, then she changed her story stating they were fax them last week. That was a lie cuz I signed the forms this week to release the documents. Then she gave another excuse which I told her to shut up because apparently she thinks patients' health are a joke. I asked to be transfer to her manager. I can hear Lauren and another colleague discussing to have me transfer to voice mail. read more

I wish I could make my first review on Yelp a good one, and I trust I'll write quite a few eventually. But I'm starting with a gripe. I'd give Dr. Murthy at least 4 stars. But his office crew only gets 1. So the overall experience is a 2. I went to Dr. Murthy for sleeping issues. He has been very informative, seems quite knowledgeable and competent, communicates well at a comfortable pace and depth. However, the office staff is a different story. When the doc says something should take a day or two, the staff says it'll be more like a week, and the reality ends up being 3-4 weeks (or more). This has happened a couple of times. Most recently, Dr. Murthy prescribed a CPAP device, and now here I am, 4 weeks and numerous calls later and still waiting for an appointment to actually get a device. I verified my insurance company wasn't the reason for the long delay... it's the slow processing of Dr. Murthy's team. Most of the time if I call his office it goes to voice mail and if I leave a message it's never returned. If I manage to get through, they tell me that progress is just a day or two away, then nothing happens until I call a week later. Or they tell me they were just about to call me and let me know that we can go on to the next step, but it seems to me they probably have been sitting on the info for a while and would sit on it forever without a follow-up call from me. I'm very tempted to start over with another doctor as I can't imagine any other office would be so inefficient. read more
