I have given glowing reviews for Dr. Oba in the past and he is still the best doctor... ever. Smart, intelligent, empathetic and caring. This review is, however, for someone in his office, the Office Lead, Corey. Sometimes there is a quagmire in dealing with medical offices that can be challenging. Patients are sick or minimally, not feeling well and trying to get an appointment with a doctor that is often overbooked, or admin rules that put high walls between a patient and their doctor that are difficult to traverse. Corey is skilled in being able to smooth over these obstacles; get action for that which needs to be tended to and does it with grace and a smile. Dr Oba has been my primary care physician for over 20 years. He is highly experienced and knowledgeable. I can't tell you how many medical issues I have had over the years, and Dr Oba has always helped me or led me to the correct specialist. 100% professional all of the time, Dr Oba has always listened to me and given me his utmost attention. I was referred to Dr.Oba from 3 different people (someone at work, a friend, and my aunt), Are you kidding? That NEVER happens. So, I took a risk and made him my new Primary Care Physician. I've always been a "I only want a female doc" kind-of-girl, but I LOVE Dr.Oba. He's a great guy who always makes me feel HEARD. I never feel rushed or ignored. He takes his time and really listens- Even when I told him that I was pretty confident that I had Mad-Cow. (He calmly suggested that I stop using WebMD and assured me that it was highly unlikely that I could have contracted it- especially since I'm a vegetarian.) Super smart and full of information, Dr. Oba is thorough- but not one of those quick to medicate and get you on your way doctors. And really, any doctor who as patience for a hypochondriac like me MUST be legit. read more

Horrible Medical Office !!!! My Husband was seen by the Physician Assistant, Susan O'Malley on 06/30/14 for a bad cough & fever blisters on his bottom lip. He received a Rx for the blisters, but nothing for his cough. Susan did not seem concerned (or Cared) ! After a few days, he felt worse......he called to make another Appt. but was told by the Front Office.....AND I QUOTE..." IF YOU FEEL THAT BAD, JUST GO TO AN URGENT CARE". I was shocked and appalled by Dr. Oba's Office. My Husband sought other treatment : and come to find out, he had double pneumonia !!!! I paid the amount due (of which the Insurance did not pay) under protest !!!!! I work in a Dental Office, and we would NEVER treat our Patients in this... shame on you !!!! read more

Samaritan Internal Medicine has the WORSE staff ever!! Doctors make good money but this office can't even afford to hire quality people or a competent manager. They have ghetto people answering the phones and ghetto people in the front. Do they hire just whomever happens to submit their resume first? I am very happy with Dr. Oba and the front desk check in assistants. However, the ones that answer the phone are useless. I was told that I couldn't leave a message for him because he was in an all day staff training. I am very sick with a bad cough, my coworker had to call 911 because i literally couln't breath, my throat completely closed and i could not get any air in or out. I was told to follow up with my dr the next day. The phone person (you can't even dignify her with calling her a receptionist) was not sypathetic, said i would have to wait until next week to get an appointment with him. when i told her i wanted to leave him a message she said to me you want to leave a message that I called. She did not want to take down the detail i wanted to give her. I guess i will have to call 911 if this happens again or go to the ER. DR. OBA ...fire those girls and get some people that really care an want to work for you and represent you the way they should. read more

I have been a patient of Dr. Oba ever since he started his practice. He is a terrific doctor who also cares very much for his patients. My wife struggled with breast cancer for three years and during that time I would fax him (the office did not have e-mail then) at least twice weekly asking for advise on how to deal with the terrible chemo reactions she suffered from, and Dr. Oba would invariably fax me back before the end of day. When he switched from SCCIPA to Stanford care, I left a better health plan to Medicare to remain with him. I have often recommended him to friends and still recommend him even though I have heard he may no longer be taking new patients. He deserves 6 stars. John F. read more

Dr. Oba is great as well as is his receptionist Megan. The girls who answer the phone are HORRIBLE. I've been trying to get a test scheduled for SIX weeks. When I call to find the status they refuse to put me through and won't even let me explain myself. I wish he would fire these girls and get someone who can return a phoine call. read more

Dr. Oba does not fulfill his responsibilities. Several years ago, my father could no longer drive safely. Our family asked for Dr. Oba to take away his driver's license and he stated "I can, but I don't want to." While we were able to take it away in another manner, that process took significantly longer than if he had put in the papers to the DMV. I have also asked that he refer my mother for neurological testing due to her fast decline and inability to manage the essentials of life. They also would not do this. They did not respond to my letter to even tell me no, nor did they keep the information I gave their office on file. They simply throw away paperwork and refuse to offer any alternate assistance/call, etc. read more

Again this office dropped the ball. One of my parents may have had a small stroke and were to have a follow-up visit after tests to be ordered this week. The office never called my parents to let them know about the CT test needed, even after they called twice and waited all day, two days in a row for a call back. DO NOT TRUST them with your health. Sadly Dr Oba is good, but needs a whole new office staff. In the meantime, my parent who could be at risk for another stroke, is not prioritized at all. Horrible care here! You are at the mercy of these people and they don't care how urgent it is. read more

I'm so happy with Dr. Oba. He's very helpful. He answers all my questions. He's very detailed with his answers. Good bedside manners. He's gentle and very polite. I've been his patient for around 7 years now. I have had many internist before, but I wasn't happy with them. I only wanted female doctors, so I was very reluctant to go to a male doctor, but I was desperate to find somebody who really wants to help. He even answers my questions via email. He would go extra mile to find a solutions and options for my health problems. For the bad reviews regarding the office, it's probably appropriate to write those reviews on the office and not Dr. Oba. The office is Samaritan Internal Medicine. There are a bunch of doctors there who run their own practice with their own medical assistants. I think the front office is run by whoever is managing the business, not the physicians. read more

Dr Oba is one of the best internist in the area but unfortunately his reception staff is one of the worst. I have worked in the Good Samaritan community for over 25 years and deal with alot of doctor office personnel and this office definetly needs some retraining on how to treat their patients/customers. HORRIBLE RECEPTIONISTS! One time I was put on hold for more than 8 minutes and then got hung up on, another time the phone just kept on ringing. When I got to talk to the receptionists, they rushed me through and cut me off when I tried to explain the nature of your call. This is a disservice to a good doctor. read more

I have been using Dr. Oba for close to 20 years. I always get a yearly physical once per year. He is very hands on. His assistants are also helpful. One thing that can be frustrating is when you leave a message, it might take anywhere from 1 to 3 days for them to return your call. After a couple days passed, my Husband became worse, so he called to get another Appt......AND I QUOTE WHAT THE FRONT OFFICE SAID...."IF YOU FEEL THAT BAD, GO TO AN URGENT CARE" !!!!! I have been going to Dr. Oba since 2008. Moved away and came back a.d couldn't wait to get back to seeing him. He's great in every way ...love him...I have also seen his PA Susan which also great and just recently another Dr. In the group. Every time I go to that office I have had a great experience. My husband and I have been seeing Dr. Oba for @ 10 years and he is superb. Sadly I too have had issues with rude people on the phone although not lately. This most recent visit was very impressive both in reception as well as the back office. Dr. Oba could not be any better as a diagnostition, an interested and through listener and really intuitive and very bright. The office of Dr Oba is as good as the people representing it. While I may not have any negative opinions about the service of the Doctors in this office, i have a very serious issues with the people answering their phone specially, the woman by the NAme of JESSICA. She is not only a very arrogant person, but does not reflect the kind of customer relations a front office attendant should behave. I called their office today and this Jessica gave me a hard time going through one of the Staff of Dr Oba (Sandra) who called me and asked to return her call. Not only this incident has happened once but several times when I or any member of my family gets placed on hold at the prompt of their picking up the phone to answer. Not only that you are placed on hold but you are kept for some several minutes of waiting time, and all I only needed is; for that Jessica to transfer me to Sandra who called me, and it will not take a lot of her time to do a simple transfer. But instead, she continued to put me several times on hold and that she hanged up on me and even challenged me and remarked to "GO ahead and report her to Dr Oba". I wish that this person should not be on that phone arguing with patients. It is not an acceptable behaviour on the phone. No matter how busy she was, she should have handle me in a different way, like the way "Kumba" handled me, where she was able to address me quickly and transfered my call promptly. Was a big deal to handle a simple task asked by patients like myself. Dr Oba's office has staffs that does not reflect the professional attitude one should exercise in dealing with patient and this Jessica does need a lot behavioural training. read more

This Doctor is the WORST! My husband has been bed ridden all week and has called Dr. Oba multiple times and he NEVER returns his phone calls. We were told if the medcation he was on did not work by today, he would squeexe him in for an appointment. We called three times yesterday to set up and so far once today--NO ONE has called back! HE has no bedside manner and clearly no concern for his patients. Pick someone else. In fact if I do not hear back I am personally going to their office and making a scene. read more
