Passing through town, my wife and I decided to stop at Jefferson's for a casual bite. I'd been once years ago but couldn't remember much about it--so this felt like a fresh first impression. Service was warm and attentive, though with only a couple of other tables occupied, I would expect nothing less. My first drink, a flat Dr. Pepper, was quickly swapped out for sweet tea, which was far more satisfying. We started with the fried mushrooms, and honestly--they stole the show. Perfectly crisp on the outside, tender and juicy inside, and seasoned just right. We devoured every single one, which might explain why we struggled to finish our entrées. As for the mains, the roasted corn was cooked well but lacked seasoning, and the coleslaw was forgettable. My chopped steak had a nice mix of peppers and onions but arrived without the gravy promised on the menu, leaving it on the dry side. To top it off, when I asked for A1, it came in a tiny ramekin... with an extra charge. In the end, Jefferson's wasn't a disaster, but it wasn't memorable either--except for those fried mushrooms. Walked in around 3 p.m. on a Saturday. There were two tables occupied and no one at the bar. Sat at the bar and waited a few minutes. A server finally brought a menu and asked if I wanted an appetizer. I asked if I needed to sit at a table, and she said no. Bartender appeared. Brought me a menu and took my beer order. Ordered five wings and fries. Wings were great; fries were cold. Beer was almost empty. Rather than asking if I wanted another one, bartender just brought the check. It wasn't even 4 p.m., and the posted hours on the door said they were open until 10. I took that as an indication that I was no longer welcome, paid and left. I won't be back. read more

Located in a strip section with a lot of vacant lots around it. Food itself is fine and plenty of TVs inside would make a good place to watch games but service is super slow both times I've been here. They don't seem to have the best management or system down for getting food out in a reasonable time frame. Kids do eat free on Sundays so we enjoyed our bill being around $30 which was a pleasant surprise. Yelp! I had never tried Jefferson's and then we were close by with limited suggestions and somebody in our group said, JEFFERSON's! We are a hungry party of five. We want everything. Our waitress is so patient and sweet. She keeps giving us time to decide, because we are indecisive and hungry. Everybody knows how that is. Thank you for your service. Now on to this good food. Appetizers, we had the fried mushrooms and onion rings. Both are stellar. Just good stuff! Jou and Dee both had the chicken sandwich. One with fries and one with corn. Both were tasty, corn is better than the fries. Only get the chicken on it double dipped if you like crisper. Good stuff. Mommy had the shrimp plate with fries and coleslaw. The chef was so sweet. We met at Jefferson's for a work class in there spacious meeting/party room. While we were having our class a delicious, buffet was set up with cheeseburger sliders, chicken wings, fried oysters, fries, and salad with any type of dipping sauce imaginable. Our drink orders were taken as we had sat down. The wait staff made you feel as if you had been there a million times. Very relaxed, comfortable, food was great, service treated you like family, bathrooms were clean. This is the place to go to hang out with friends, eat, watch the game, or have a work class. Had not had Jefferson's in years. Used to like the Gadsden and Jacksonville locations. Went tonight to the Hoover location. Was told to seat ourselves, but most of the "open" tables were still dirty with other people's food. Then multiple tables that came in after us were served ahead of us. Restaurants was not super busy (not dead but less than half full). Wait time was forever, food was mediocre. Only decent part were the pretzel bites (the bread was good, the cheese for dipping was kinda cold). Server disappeared for 30 minutes, had to find another employee and ask for check so we could leave. Very disappointing experience, would not return for any reason. read more

Was in the area and thought I'd check these guys out. I've been to a couple other locations and they weren't too bad. I'd say that this location would fall into the - it's not too bad category as well. I actually went with one of my regular Jefferson's orders - Jalapeño Burger: Topped with pepper jack cheese, fried jalapenos and our house made jalapeño sauce. (Added Bacon) The burger was prepared well but they forgot to include the bacon that I requested to be added. Not a big deal, but as quickly as they handed me my plate the server disappeared and never came back. I had to go hunt somebody down to ask if they could get the bacon for me. Food was fresh and the price for a sit down meal type place is fair. Service here is probably a solid 3. Food was probably closer to a 4 (not quite). Overall average of the score would be a solid 3. I'd come here again, but I wouldn't be opposed to trying other places before returning here. read more

I've been to Jefferson's several times in the past, but this was our first time back in a while. Decent atmosphere and prices. Our bartender/server was amazing, considering that she had never bartender before and the struggles that seemed to be stemming from the kitchen. The food was terrible. The Dill Pickle fried chicken sandwich was so undercooked and tough that it was inedible. Fried chicken fingers were also undercooked and soggy, but at least edible. Oysters on the half shell- oh my goodness they were so bad. Had obviously been shucked by someone who had no idea what they're doing. And worse, they had a smell and tasted like they'd been in the cooler for too long. We won't be back unless the place trends upward again. read more

Great atmosphere! You can color/decorate $1bills to add to the huge collection all along the wall... AND your server will even pin it exactly where you want it displayed! Wings are are definitely a bigger size than any other place I had wings... and the flavor options!!! There are 20!!! To choose from and you can't go wrong with whichever you choose! Fresh oysters! Even the oysters tag is displayed as you walk in to show they are FRESH! Many different types of unique burgers that will not leave you disappointed! And the appetizer choices too are so hard to make a decision because they are ALL delicious! Also, fantastic perk... EVERY AND ALL DAY SUNDAYS KIDS EAT FREE!!! Had dinner here tonight and the food was good but I ordered a Crown and Sprite and was charged extra for the sprite. When I ask the bar tender why there was an extra charge for the sprite she really stumbled around with no clear explanation. I told her I have never been charged extra for a mix drink, and her best excuse was that it was a shot, but she mixed it just like a mix drink. Last time I'll eat at this location. read more

Jefferson's officially has new owners as of September 1st, 2020 & it's better than ever. The new owners are super sweet & very caring to make sure you get good service and that your meal is just what you ordered. If you've had a bad experience here previously, you should try it again because you won't be disappointed. The new owners have remodeled the place and are adding extra TVs for those game day Saturdays! We got wings & each of us got a different kind of fries. I think it's pretty unique that you can get sweet potato fries, curly fries, or regular crinkle cut fries. They were all tasty, but the curly fries are my favorite! THE BEST WINGS IN B'HAM!! We go here at least 1 or 2 Thursdays a month. BUT if you want wings at a discounted price go on a Wednesday- .75 cent boneless OR traditional wings. The Thursday specials we take advantage of are: $6.25 pitchers OR $1.75 mug of beer. SERVICE- is always great. The waitresses are prompt, nice, and friendly. ATMOSPHERE- has a sports bar feel with many tv's throughout. You have the choice to sit at the bar, table and/or booth, and outside seating. FOOD & PRICE- we always order wings and beer. On occasion we order fried pickles. The wings are so great!!! They are big, always hot and fresh, and lathered with sauce. We have tried 8 flavors of the 19 flavors they offer. The Double dipped and sweet and sassy are our favorites. This time we tried the Teriyaki- it was very good. Each wing order comes with tortilla chips, ranch or blue cheese, and celery. We order a side of salsa to go with the chips. We also ordered a pitcher of Miller Lite- Thursday special = $6.25 . This restaurant is tucked away in a shopping center on Valleydale. I have eaten here twice and it was truly terrible both times. the cheeseburger was tasteless and hard as a rock. The cheese fries appetizer was gross because the fries were not fully cooked. On Jan 25, we met friends for dinner and the double dip chicken sandwich was not edible it was so tough that it could not be cut with knife and fork. Could've had more seasoning. Could've had less feathers also. Just didn't enjoy it as much as I expected too. I need to be transparent here. The original Jefferson's is extremely special to me since it opened when I was in college, so I am biased, yet still critical to this place. Now I am super happy to have a location just 15 minutes away from my house. I just wish that this location was busier as it always seems a bit empty whenever we go and this location has a large space. I truly believe that they have some of the best wings around. They aren't small little wings and there is more to their menu. I think that it's an unwritten rule at Jefferson's that every meal must begin with an order of their fried pickles. Yes, they're that good. The wings are always amazing and so are the flavors. I always order some medium and some sweet n' spicy. We also love their lemon pepper wings. The hamburgers and chicken sandwiches are great as well. My daughter always orders the aloha chicken sandwich or the guacamole chicken sandwich. We love the sweet potato fries and curly fries as well. Every visit has to end with an order of their peanut butter pie and it is amazing!! 5 star on wings! Some of the best wngs in town by far. Their wings have a nice crispy outer but juicy and full of flavor inside. Perfect! Double dip turbo with sweet and sassy and double dip turbo with Caribbean jerk! Oh ya!! Sweet and sassy is our all time favorite but make sure you double dip it!! Onion rings are fresh cut. I like Jefferson's because it is a laid back atmosphere with friendly staff. I know it's a chain but it feels like a local place. They have some of the better wings in town in my opinion. I came here on a weeknight with a buddy of mine to hang out and really enjoyed it here. It wasn't too crowded and by recommendation of our server I ordered the "Double dipped" wings with chips. They dip the wings in turbo sauce and then have them refried in a crispy bit lower heat flavored. Very good crispy wings. I really enjoyed this place and they have plenty of TVs on the wall for your viewing pleasure. I hear Wednesdays and Thursdays are a good time to come for wing deals and pitchers. I've heard Jefferson's is the place to go for great wings and the rumor is true! Me and some friends visited Jefferson's for the first time and decided to go for lunch. When we first got there, it was empty but by the time we left it was just about a packed house. Jefferson's reminds me of a sports bar but with good food. I actually didn't order the wings lol. I actually ordered the fried chicken salad. Now I will say, it was strange that it only came with shredded cheese, croutons and tomatoes. I asked the waitress could she add bacon and eggs to the salad and she was able to, but luckily each item only cost 0.99 cents. The salad was very good with fresh ingredients. My friends all ordered wings, hence that's why I didn't have to lol. I tried the hot wings, the teriyaki wings, and the mild with lemon pepper wings and all were delicious. They were fried extra crispy and the sauces used was good. The complaint I have is that some wings didn't have enough sauce. But our waitress brought us more. The only other complaint I have is that they charge extra for small stuff. For example, my salad was huge so I asked for an extra ranch to-go, and the waitress asked for 0.55 cents. And the reason for that was because it was "to go." I've never heard of that before but ok. All in all the restaurant was clean, food was good, and I could tell it was a good atmosphere especially for football because of all of the TVs. read more

I have been eating Jefferson's for years, starting at the OG in Jacksonville many years ago. Since this Hoover location has been under new management, the quality has gone down for me. Every time I order it gets just a little worse until I regret ordering. The last 4 times my fries have tasted like they were cooked in really old oil, and my chicken fingers are never double dipped like I order. I'm sure it's just growing pains and staffing issues due to Covid, and I'll update when things trend up. But right now, I'll be taking a break. It isn't worth the money anymore. read more

Jefferson's is a franchise chain of restaurants that was started in Jacksonville, Alabama. There are locations in 5 states, and this is the only location in the Birmingham area. It is a sports theme, and a very casual atmosphere. The decor is simple; mainly team pennants, flags, and posters hanging on the walls and from the ceiling. The menu offers the typical bar food: wings, burgers, and oysters. My waitress suggested the Double Dipped style wings, and she said it is their signature wing preparation. The wings are fried, removed and tossed with their Turbo sauce, and then fried again. I assumed the Turbo sauce would be spicy, but the second dip into the fryer cancelled most of the Turbo flavor. I ordered a side of hot sauce (50 cents extra) because I like wet sauces. It was very vinegary and mildy spicy. The wings were not dried out despite being fried twice. Overall they were okay, but I would not recommend double dipped. I think "regular" with the hot sauce has potential. Jefferson's is a great choice in the Valleydale/I-65 area for a quick lunch or dinner. It is low key and has a local feel. It did not feel like a chain restaurant. read more

Went on a Monday, which is when they have a deal on their burgers. I really enjoyed my burger (it had brisket and bar-b-q sauce) and I got baked beans (not worth it) and added Mac and cheese. My child ordered Mac and cheese as his side but was happy they didn't bring it when he saw mine had shredded cheese and was gooey (not his style but I thought it was good). It took a lot longer than we anticipated as there was only one person working. We had only allotted 50 minutes for dinner and had to shove our food in when it came. I will be totally honest, my expectations were NOT high for this place! My husband and I had been out car-shopping and I had mentioned I was in the mood for wings. He was not in the mood for the bustle of another big chain wing restaurant on a Saturday in the fall, so he suggested Jeffersons, as he had been there during the week with work buddies. Parking was not a problem, as it is in a strip mall that is not super busy. The decor is kind of divey sports bar without being dirty or trashy...just very casual. We were promptly greeted and got drinks quickly. Though I was brought here for the wings, I saw the oysters on the menu and got a taste for them, so that was my initial order. I was disappointed, but actually impressed that when I did, the waitress told me that they had gotten their shipment in, but the owner/manager/chef (I forget who, but the decision-maker) had actually ejected the shipment because they didn't look large enough or fresh, so they wouldn't have oysters for a couple of days. Yes, they were out of a main menu offering, but I would rather that than they give me old or puny oysters. ANYHOO...it wall worked out because I got the opportunity to try some REALLY good wings! They were definitely much better than the "big chain wing place." There were fewer sauce flavor options, I think, but really, who orders all those others anyway? I have seen other reviews complain about the service, so I will address that. There was only one server that I noticed. It was pretty slow, so not surprising.
