Twice, early in cold February mornings I smelled someone cooking fish. The first morning I suspected it was our son preparing lunches. The second morning I realized it was the smell of a hot wire. I traced it to a sub panel in our furnace enclosure. Taking off the cover, I could see the melting insulation and read the temperature of the thick cable at over 600°. We called out an HVAC company. Their man made a good effort and replaced a breaker in the box. However, the next morning I could smell the cooking fish again. They recommended Jefferson Electric. Jefferson sent out a supervisor to assess the situation and give us a quote. He ended up going to buy the parts, replacing the entire box and solving the problem, removing our fire hazard. They sent a guy out to see our situation (several small electrical jobs), who provided us with options and a detailed estimate that itemized parts and labor for each task. The guys who came to do the work--Alex and Bruce--were extremely professional, courteous and unobtrusive. They did the job in a timely fashion. So many of the plumbing, electric and HVAC contractors are just trying to sell and up-sell (yes, I've had bad experiences with a few), but this company is honorable. read more

I have a duplex in Indianapolis and one side of the property still had the old knob and tube wiring and that side also wasn't up to code with wired smoke alarms, etc. Matt the estimator came out to estimate and gave me some great advice on moving forward, what fixtures to buy, etc. he also took lots of photos to reference. He walked me through the bid and answered all of my questions. They scheduled me in for a complete rewire. They showed up on time and did a great job. They even had someone take care of the drywall repair since they had to cut holes in the lathe and plaster walls (this duplex was built in 1915!) to run new wires, switches and plugs. My tenants are very happy and the duplex is now safe, modern and No more safety hazards with old wiring. Note to all out of state investors: This is a great company to work with. They handle everything including permits. Easy to work with and very communicative when you are far away and need help. Quotes are very reasonable for the quality and service you get. Don't trust these idiots to screw a lightbulb in straight. They are the worst "So called" electricians we have ever employed. Their work was subpar that did not pass code. We had to write them a punch list to pass inspection that they refused to perform. We had to fix their their garbage work ourselves just to pass inspection. They inflicted unbelievable amounts of plaster damage to the walls & ceilings in their joke attempt to rewire a simple home. Over 60 holes had to be patched because of their ignorant negligence. They claim to be a Christian business but in reality they are liars & thieves. If Jesus was here today he would lash them all from their place of arrogance with the branches of humility to their nest of disgrace where they truly belong. We requested a quote. A project manager came and assessed. Was very polite. Promised the quote within 72 hours. 10 days later and after multiple emails, phone messages, and texts we still had no quote. We moved to another Indy company that was professional and gave us a quote same day. read more

For us, the Indianapolis crew definitely did not provide the "relationship, integrity, nor excellence" they proclaim on their website. No one called me when the job was finally completed to follow up. No one called to let me know when they would be arriving. Yes, I had an 8am appointment but a simple phone call or text would have made a big difference especially when you're coming to my home. Later in the day 2 guys randomly showed back up again because they forgot to do something. Again, no phone call, they just showed up. I was invoiced before the job was finished. (The project manager did tell me not to pay what was due until the job is complete but due dates remained the same) My panel looks like it was labeled by a third grade student and if I had of known it was going to be completed in that manner I would've done it myself. Now I have to go back and fix it. It was very kind of my project manager to include wiring up my dishwasher. However, the junction box was placed right next to my hot water line which could easily leak into the box. (Why not ask me where I want it? Do you also install lights and not ask where they're going to go?) Granted, I am not an electrician by any means but to me with this junction box not being waterproof or placed away from my water source it's an accident waiting to happen. Again, something I have to fix for the safety of my family. At least it's to code per the owner. There's dust all over the outside of my house where the new meter was placed. Is it commonplace for the customer to have to clean up after a job when it's in the contract stating they'll take care of clean up? A can of Great Stuff was left right outside my back door. Again, for me to clean up. Easy for me to do, but that's not the point. All these details make me question the quality and integrity of the rest of of the job. For a $4600 job, standards of excellence should be higher. They came out to my house twice. Once to do the job and a second time to tie some things up. The owner did offer to come out and personally address my concerns but it's apparent, based on my experience, that attention to detail, communication, customer service and high quality work are not in their training and at this point I don't want them back out to my house. They did send us 2, $50 gift cards as an apology for my disappointment. I requested a partial refund of $500 so I could hire someone who was more attentive to detail and that request was denied. In the end I'm going to agree to disagree with the owner. If you hire this company to do work I hope you receive a better experience than we did. read more

We had the original 60 year old panel replaced with a new Span.io smart panel in addition to some additional work odd electrical work performed. The work was scheduled to be completed in 2 days. They sent out 7 teams with each one assigned to a specific update/replacement task so that the work got completed within a single day. The guys were jovial and performed a great job of correcting what the DIY owner/builder did many decades ago. If we need additional work done we will call Jefferson again. read more

Working with Jefferson electric has been the most pleasurable experience I've ever had with any contractor or sub - period. My wife and I recently purchased a 1910 craftsman in downtown Indy and needed some small electrical work done to facilitate the installation of a security system and run wire for a new doorbell. Joel, the owner, came out personally to give an estimate and was very understanding of our goals, scope and budget. Chris and Andy arrived the day of and were consummate professionals. After discussing our goals, we made some small changes that day (more work in some areas, less in others) and at the end of the day we actually came in UNDER the estimate by about ~10%! They also were fantastically capable at figuring out the electrical wiring in a 110 year old home and provided excellent service. Required two inquiries to get delayed response (one week) that they are no longer taking on new customers, and a recommendation for another contractor which may or may not be capable of doing the work requested. I needed to have my solar system serviced because four of my panels were not producing any power. After speaking with my regular electrician, they suggested Jefferson Electric for the job. It took about 4 weeks to get a call back from Jefferson Electric to set up an appointment for them to come out and look at my system, but in late October I finally got one of their workmen, Matt, to come out and look at it. Matt was informed by my solar monitoring company that two of my micro inverters were defective and needed to be replaced. I asked how much this was going to cost right then and there and was told, IDK, but when I asked later, he said it was completely covered under warranty and would be free. Matt replaced the inverters 10 days later, and we parted ways without him informing me that I would be expecting any type of invoice, while still informing me that I was covered under warranty. However, three days after service, I received an invoice from Jefferson Electric for $768.00. Perplexed, I contacted them, and a one Philip Field informed me that I had been misled and that they were sorry for the misunderstanding and asked if I would be willing to pay half. I informed Mr. Field that I would not pay because I was under no contractual obligation to do so, and he said okay, I will cancel the invoice. I considered the matter closed until I received a call from the company's owner, Joel Walsman, who basically tried to tell me over the phone that Philip didn't have the authority to dissolve the invoice and that he wanted me to pay something, to which I replied that I might feel comfortable paying for the two service calls totaling $120. Nonetheless, Mr. Walsman seemed bothered by the amount and attempted to counter with $250, which I declined, and he threw a hissy fit on the phone, claiming that I didn't know the business and that he would refuse service in the future, at which point I told him the conversation was over. They do good work, but get a quote from them before doing business with them. read more

I was looking for a company to help me install a Tesla charging outlet in my home. After doing alot of shopping around, I found Jefferson electric on the Tesla's website in the recommended installers list. I was trying to stay off that list because I felt they would over charge me because I owned a Tesla(and all I need is a 250v outlet similar to what I use for my drier). After having a conversation with them, they gave me a really good deal for the outlet and was able to complete the installation in about 2 hours, And that was the next day after I spoke to them. We contracted Jefferson Electric to do some updates to our 1923 bungalow. The crew arrived on time and worked till dusk. They installed two outlets and a ceiling fan. The big task was digging a trench to properly install the electrical line to our detached garage. The crew wrestled with gnarly oak roots and worked till dusk to get the garage wired. The invoice matched the estimate despite the extra work. My wife and I slept well under our new ceiling fan, enjoyed fresh coffee thanks to our new kitchen outlet, and even my car slept better in my newly rewired garage. Great crew, work done as-promised.
