Dr. Berlin cares about his patients and calls even after surgery to check up. He is available if any concerns arise. I appreciate the professional atmosphere and efficient Front office staff..They work as a unit and communicate effectively. There is Valet for the building. Otherwise you will have to drive around to find a meter or park in neighborhood and walk. The office offers coffee complimentary to their patients. The atmosphere is comfortable. I appreciate feeling taken care of and Dr. BERLIN kept me informed throughout my procedure. Thank you for treating me like family. I would recommend Dr. Berlin to anyone seeking a knowledgeable Dental Oral Surgeon. This dental practice is in network with Cigna. In case that helps anyone make a decision. After reading a few reviews I felt compelled to write a bit more for this review: 1)Front staff: Yes, when you call it may seem that they are unfriendly. However, Id like to remind people that this office is busy and taking care of scheduling, billing, phones, people can be stressful. We should all find compassion for each other. I found that after engaging the front staff with a positive attitude and compassionate energy their attitude also was positive. Sometimes when forgiveness and understanding need to be practiced. Not everyone can have an amazing attitude all day every day. Life happens. 2) Billing Issues: I noticed on the negative reviews they mentioned billing discrepancies. I cannot comment to that much since my procedure was recent. However, I can say I was given plenty of paperwork describing how much a root canal can be. Then the costs were reviewed with me prior to beginning procedure. I was told what I would need to pay out of pocket. So I paid that given amount and thus far had my procedure and nothing more was required after payment. I will update if any further billing issues occur. 3) Bedside Manner: Dr. Berlin had excellent bedside manner and does care about his patients as I stated. He was booked back to back and I had a late 330pm appointment. I was seen on time, I even showed up about 10 min early. I was greeted upon arrival and acknowledged. During Procedure Dr. Berlin continued to check-in with me and how I was feeling with each step. Once Done any questions I had he took the time to respond. If you have anxiety about the Dentist I feel Dr. BERLIN would take the necessary time to make you feel comfortable. 4) Great service overall. Could it be cheaper? Well root canal are expensive and all in all I feel Dr. BERLINS cost was fair and comperable to others in the area. But always do your due diligence. Personally, I went for practicality, reliability, availability, and convenience since I needed to be seen right away. Thankful I have insurance. Hope this helps someone to make a decision. I can't believe it. I really am amazed. I had broken a tooth and I had put off getting it fixed for way too long. This, because I'm dumb, developed into a really bad situation. I found myself in extreme pain where I reached out to a dentist near work after not sleeping for 3 painful nights. The dentist took a look and realized I couldn't wait one more day without seeing an endodontist. So I was referred to Dr. Jeff Berlin.. His team managed to squeeze me in about an hour later to see if they could help. I was nervous and, honestly, ashamed that I had let my situation get out of control like this. And so I braced for the feelings of judgement... that never came. After assessing what I was dealing with he told me his plan of action and got me settled. He shot me full of Novocain and once ready he diligently got to work. I felt so completely comfortable. The entire procedure was very fast! Every step of the way he told me what he was doing. I was most impressed by how painless it all was. The Novocain has since worn off and not only can I drink out of a cup without it immediately pouring out... I can do so.. completely painlessly. How?! How have I always had painful dental experiences on way less serious procedures in the past?This was a ROOT CANAL and I could've slept through it. Is Jeff made of magic? It's very possible. probably is. To top it off.. This guy, Dr. Jeff, calls me later that day to check in with me! I, luckily, was finally catching up on that long needed nap time and so, sadly, I missed his call. But he left me a detailed message on how to reach him should I have any concerns. Who does that?! I didn't know people still care! It's almost 2019 and it seems like most people working with some facet of customer service could flat out strike me in the face while giving me the finger.. and give me attitude when I get upset. I was referred to Dr. Berlin by my dentist. Unfortunately, he was already gone for the weekend, but I was given an appointment with him for Monday and, also, his contact info. The next day, I experienced one of the most painful days of my life. Deciding it met the criteria of "medial emergency" I called Dr. Berlin directly. He picked up. He listened to my concerns and prescribed some meds (antibiotic and pain killer) that absolutely saved me. By Sunday, I felt human again. On Monday I went in, he determined I needed a root canal, and he and his assistant expertly did their thing. I've only had one root canal in my life, but I feel like sometimes you just recognize excellence. With precision and focus, he did his thing, taking X-rays to check his work a few times, grabbing a different tool/instrument seemingly every 5 seconds to save my poor mouth. Two weeks later, I feel great. I will be getting my crown soon and I consider the treatment I received world class and worth every cent. This review is for their billing only. They overcharged me by $322 dollars. Most doctor's offices submit your claim, see what insurance pays, and then bill you for the rest. Here, they do the opposite: they overcharge you, see what the insurance pays, and supposedly mail you the refund. I never received any refund for a claim that was paid by insurance over 2 months after my procedure. I called them, they said they will mail me a check in November because they do it at the end of the month. I never received anything. The only reason I discovered the overcharge is that I logged into my insurance EOB system. Basically, if I had not discovered they had overcharged me, they would never have let me know. Even after that, I contacted them multiple times, and they are claiming the claim is "in process" even though it shows as "paid" on my end. They need to change their billing system and stop overcharging people for an already expensive procedure. read more

Dr. Berlin and his staff are great! I came in to his office same day, referred by my primary dentist, for an emergency root canal. He did an amazing job, pain free, talked me through everything. He and his staff made me feel very welcome, great bedside manner, and made sure I was pain and worry free the whole time. Dr. Berlin even followed up with me on his personal time, with a call that same evening, to make sure that I was pain free and doing ok. I don't gamble when it comes to my teeth. I just moved to LA and did quite a bit of research to find the right dental care. I ended up being referred to Dr.Berlin through an ex who went to him to get a bad procedure fixed. Dr.Berlin and his staff are amazing. He's super helpful and an overall wonderful person to be around. There's an ease in the air and a confident professional demeanor. There was not a second that went by where I questioned whether I was in good hands, and surely I was. The root canal felt super simple actually. At first glance it the x-rays showed the cavity had not hit the nerve yet, so we tried to avoid a root canal and he referred me to Dr. Brand who is in the same building and also super amazing. Long story short it was my first root canal and way more simple and painless than i ever imagined. Dr.Berlin did an incredible job. Perfection. No swelling, no pain, a little tired but that's because my mouth was drilled for two days. Given the amount of work that was done I am pretty surprised by how "normal" i feel. I got an appointment the day I called, this is not normal, I was lucky. I was in some real pain and my last procedure, with another dentist, was excruciatingly painful. Dr Berlin was rude and disrespectful - Find someone else!. I made an appt for a standard consultation- No emergency - I could have come in at anytime or a different day. Came in exactly th the time the office told me he would "see me" for a consult. Iasked if the doctor was ready to see me and the desk worker said yes. I was ignored for 1/2 hour & kept waiting with no explanation. No other patients came or left. 1/2 hour after my scheduled appt, a technician took me to a treatment room and took one x-ray. Less than five minutes. I asked when the Dr would see me - They said he went down the hall. He was not even in the office. He never bothered to poke his head in to say hello or apologoze for keeping me waiting. I waited another 20 minutes - he never came back to the office- I got up and told the "desk clerk" that I was not willing to tolerate that kind of rudeness & disrespect. By now it was almost an hour after my appt time. His earlier patient was at the desk leaving. They said he just got finished with her & that he left the office to go down the hall with another patient. I left. I do not believe he ever intended to see me at my appointment time or even close to that time. I was never informed he was running late & given the chance to reschedule or wait. He has an unreliable, unprofessional practice, and an overblown sense of self-entitlement. I guess he thinks he's the only endodontist around. read more

Not surprised to see several five-star reviews here for Dr. Berlin and his staff. I was referred as an emergency patient and was in an overwhelming amount of pain. Dr Berlin saw me that same day. He recognized my distress, and when he looked me in the eye and shook my hand I knew he sincerely cared about me. In fact, after both parts of the root canal, Dr Berlin called me personally to see how I was doing. He's just thoroughly awesome. The building is easy to find and has a pharmacy downstairs, which I always like. Everyone in the office (stocked with lovely Midcentury Modern architecture books) was warm, friendly, and professional. There's even two-hour metered street parking! Much more lucid today, I returned to complete the root canal treatment and was again pleasantly surprised by how noticeably BETTER this office is than nearly any other I've been in. They are ready for you at the time of your appointment, and explain all the complexities of your insurance beautifully. I only wish Dr. Berlin weren't already married - my best girlfriend is single!! read more

Dentist offices can be a scary scary place, but this place is different. It's highly efficient, painless, professional, and not over priced. I've been to the office several times and each time I was seen immediately. The receptionist is awesome and will know immediately what you need from looking at your medical records and will call you if an earlier appointment opens up. Dr. Berlin had to do two retreatment root canals since my last dentist did such a crappy job. He will make sure you are well taken care of, checking in every 5 minutes or so to make sure you are ok. Oh and they have a single shot coffee maker in the office that I always try and drink when I leave the office with chipmunk numb cheeks. Just try and be careful not to pour the coffee everywhere except into your mouth like I did. :) read more

I don't think anyone would describe a root canal as a "fun process" but Dr. Berlin makes it about as fun as it will ever get! I had ZERO pain... none! Not during or after... They numb you up really good so you don't feel a thing... but the sounds? eek! I would bring earphones and listen to some good tunes, or you can watch tv... how fun! After a really bad experience with Thomas Holcomb, I was referred to Jeff Berlin. Margaret is the recptionist who is really wonderful. Kind and really helpful, she got me an appointment for an emergency root canal the day I called. Jeff Berlin is terrific! Relaxed and affable, he gently helped me through my anxiety and did a terrific job. He personally called me later on that evening to see how I was doing. i had a root canal on my 14th tooth. After suffering from pain for a week, I was so excited to get it done to say bye bye to the pain! He was gentle and quick, so 5 hours after the procedure, I am pain free! Like other review says, only the first Advil right after the procedure was only meds I needed. My dentist wanted a specialist to look at my Root Canal (redo) as it was over 20 years old and deep. He made room for me ASAP/ THAT DAY (today, since I live an hour away from Beverly Hills) and also gave me options like my other (wonderful) dentist. I sat down, got an x-ray and met with him in mere minutes! He started the 1st half of the root canal immediately (after the office payment manager met with me regarding my insurance coverage)! I was in and out, lickety-split! 2 1/2 hours later and I am no longer numb and I don't have any pain, soreness or swelling like they warned me about! Seriously, ZIP! If you are afraid of needles (I used to be) don't be afraid of Dr. Berlin. His sparkling eyes and very soft touch with the needle will make you wonder if/ when he ever numbed you at all! I will go back in about 2 weeks to 'finish' the procedure, but instead of 'fearing' a root canal, I feel at complete ease. I had excruciating pain for several days which, from experience, led me to believe that I probably needed a root canal. I got Dr Berlin's number from a friend and got in to see him the same day. He took a long time to get me numb and guided me through the entire procedure even though I'd had numerous root canals. He could not have been more solicitous of my comfort level--always greatly appreciated! Unfortunately, once he got into the tooth and removed the decay and abscess, it became apparent that the tooth could not be saved. He was honest and said that if he finished the root canal it would probably fail within a short amount of time and recommended removal. He even gave me the name of a dentist who he highly recommends. Dr. Berlin is an extremely skilled and caring endodontist. His kind manners also are reflected in his staff, all of whom, including the receptionist, are kind and empathetic. Let's face it - no one in their right mind looks forward to a visit to the endodontist. Oral surgery can be quite painful and stressful. But this is where Dr. Berlin excels. He is very aware of the stress that his patients feel and does all that he can to make the procedure painless. We were out at a local restaurant on a Friday night when, out of nowhere, I experienced pain near where a previous root canal had been done. I thought I was just experiencing was nothing shy of sensitivity/a minor toothache​. ​However, over the course of the next few days, the pain escalated exponentially, and I booked an appointment with my regular dentist for Tuesday. By this day, the pain was intolerable​, and I was referred to Dr. Berlin. Long story short, I was rushed in that day (in the midst of a hectic schedule) and seen within an hour. After taking X-Rays, we discovered that my previous root canal had gotten severely infected all the way up to my jawbone, and I had experienced some bone loss. I underwent surgery, in which he went inside and scraped out the infection. Throughout the procedure, he continuously gave me extra novocaine (as per my request, as I metabolize it quickly) and asked me if I was okay. Quite honestly, the most uncomfortable I felt during the procedure was during the drilling; not because of the feeling (I didn't feel a THING), but because of the ear-piercing noise. The night of the procedure, I was in bed in nearly as much pain as when I entered, and Dr. Berlin offered to have me come in first thing the next day to get numbed up. (He happens to call after each procedure to check up on his patients). Today, I returned home from the second part of the surgery, and am currently recovering as I type this. All I have to say is that this guy is amazing. Not only was he careful and professional during the procedure, but he is also kind and caring as a human being and ensures that you are okay throughout your medical experiences with him. If you need any serious dental work, he is the guy to see! NOTE: The only flaw is that the building's valet is astronomically expensive (I believe $2.50 every 15 minutes) and is often slow when busy. If possible, search for parking on the street. Also, if you are getting the work done on yourself, have someone drive you, as you will be in pain afterward​ and/or be dizzy. read more

Beware of the lone receptionist here. She will certainly act "nice," but she is surprisingly incompetent and passive-aggressive. On two occasions, she told me she passed on a question I had to the doctor, and lied. When I confronted her about it, the truth emerged that she is passing on her OWN "diagnoses" and recommendations AS THE DOCTOR'S. This is not good, not to mention illegal! I have never left a review before, but know the importance of reading others. So please excuse my first one- I hope it is helpful. I am an extremely sensitive patient when it comes to going to the dentist. I researched many in my screen actors guild insurance plan to find a compassionate and well respected dentist. I made an appointment here, thinking since The reviews were good and location was nice. My experience was upsetting to say the least. When I checked in the receptionist didn't need my insurance card, and when I asked why she didn't explain. She just said she didn't need it (I filled Out info on the paper work) so I hoped that was enough. It would have been nice as a new patient for her to explain how she was going to handle my insurance when I asked. I went into the room about 30 minutes after my scheduled time. (Could have been from normal paper work filing though) I have 2 broken teeth and A LOT of pain. They went to do X-rays- and when she pulled the tool out of my mouth she did it crooked and smacked my broken tooth causing me to gasp And cry out in pain. She was very rushed. I didn't get an apology, just a "whoops" The doctor came in, was friendly and joked around with me. I could sense he was having a busy day, which is great for business but bad for a new nervous patient. He explained I needed 2 root canals and some other work he would give referrals to. He said we would have to take 3 visits to finish our work. Not explaining the work that needed to be done. He seemed like he had a lot of other parents and was rushed. The nurse came in with the costs and left. I guess we were getting started after payment was brought to my attention. The next few steps made me give one star- I told him that one of my abscess teeth still had an exposed nerve and was very painful. He didn't believe that was true and did an "ice Test" instead of the more gentle approaches to seeing if their was a live nerve. The pain I felt when he did that was so traumatic and sharp it set me in the same mindset of when my fear of dentists first started. I was embarrassed bc at this point I was crying infront of a stranger I didn't know- And this stranger was someone I was supposed to trust for 3 visits. . To not only take care my oral hygiene but also show some compassion and understand what it's like to be in that chair, mouth open and completely vulnerable and exposed. I told Him that Novacaine burns really fast in my system and takes about 15-20 minutes for me to be completely numb. He said he had another kind and it would only take 5 minutes. Considering how he just checked for a exposed nerve I was guessing he was in a hurry to get started and done. He put a numbing cream on a Q tip and placed it in my mouth - to numb me for my shot. When he pulled it out- he yanked it out from the top of my head causing my drool and medication to string up from my mouth and into my eye and across My forehead into my hair. The medication started burning my eyes and at that point I knew he was in to much of a rush for my comfort level and I asked to leave. I'm not here to say he doesn't do his job well. In fact he seems very efficient and quick. But do not come here if you want compassion and trust that your well being, and history is just as important as your teeth. He later called to apologize about making me uncomfortable. That was the professional thing to do. I'm coming from the extreme angle of compassionate care. He is not the one if you have any PTSD with trauma or dentistry. I found another dentist 2 hours later in Beverly Hills ( Rami Etessami ) and was so friendly to me. He even told me my abscess Tooth was so badly infected I should NOT be worked on that same day. He prescribed me antibiotics and sent me home for two days before working on me so I would be very comfortable and in less pain. He cared, had time so he will get my business. read more

If you don't mind hidden fees and price gouging, then Dr. Berlin does really great work! On a referral from another dentist (who my girlfriend works for) I went to Dr. Berlin. I called and made an appointment and was informed my procedure would be $200 out-of-pocket. I went in for the consultation and continued with the procedure immediately after. When the procedure was completed (and it went very well) I was informed that a mistake was made and I would owe $300 instead of the $200. "Ok" I thought. These things happen and it went well. I paid the $300 without a complaint. Dr. Berlin was even nice enough to give me a "follow-up" call that night. I'm not sure if I've ever had that before. It was a nice touch. Cut to a month later when I received a bill that stated I OWED $155. What! As I inspected the itemized bill I noticed I was charged $145 "evaluation (consultation)" fee ($154.90 w/ tax). I couldn't believe it! I was in shock. I was NEVER told when I made my appointment that there was a "consultation" fee. I was NEVER told when I showed up for the consultation that there would be a fee... Not to mention it would be over $150. When my procedure was over, and I paid my $300's out-of-pocket ($100 more than I was quoted) I was NOT informed of a "consultation" fee either. I only found out when I was billed. I have NEVER been charged a consultation fee (in my long life) without be told there WAS a consultation fee. I immediately called Dr. Berlin's office and asked about it. I was told by the receptionist/office manager that they don't tell the patient there is a consultation fee. I argued with her that it isn't right for them to NOT tell me about a consultation fee and to then charge me for a consultation fee. Was I not told for fear I would go elsewhere? My question was not answered. I also brought up how my out-of-pocket went up $100 AFTER my procedure was completed and that I DIDN'T complain about it-- not until this new gouging happened. I explained that in no way would I pay this fee UNLESS I was emailed all the paperwork I signed and on it a consultation fee was noted. I was told the email would be forth-coming. It's been over a month and I still don't have it. Of course, I received ANOTHER bill in the mail telling me I still owe the money. I guess the moral of the story is... Dr. Berlin is a great Dentist... as long as you don't mind paying %50 more than you were quoted... and THEN being billed another $155 later. Don't forget the fact that my girlfriend WORKS for the Dentist who referred me, so if this is happening to me then I'm only too afraid to know what is happening to patients without knowledge of the inner workings of a dental office. Btw, my girlfriend was SHOCKED at what happened and she works for multiple dental offices full time. If you go to Dr. Berlin's get IN WRITING what ALL of the cost will be BEFORE you start your consultation and procedure. It will save you the HEADACHE I have. read more

Was referred to Jeff Berlin to take care of two infected molars, which I was told by two other Dentists that this was very serious and needs to be taken care of ASAP: 1) Secretary had a BAD attitude 2) Waited 30 mins before he saw me 3) He looked at x-rays, tapped on my tooth and he tells me 'don't worry about it, we'll keep an eye on it and see what happens within 4-8 weeks because it's a little pricy and you can't afford it" which basically means you look poor and can't afford it. 4) They charged me $125.00 for insulting me and seeing me for only 5 mins. The dentist was good but the woman at the front desk who runs the office was DREADFUL and completely destroyed my experience. She called me three times in one day asking me if I could come in earlier when I told her the first time that I was teaching and it was impossible. I had asked for an estimate for the work and was told it would be $450. When I got there they demanded $732 while I was sitting in the chair waiting for the work to begin. The whole procedure was 20 minutes. They then had some issue with my insurance but without talking to me, she ran my credit card for an additional $1052. They never spoke with me about it but just put the charge through as they already had my credit card. I asked repeatedly to just speak with the dentist.I dont know if she ever asked him to call me, or was just protecting herself as she knew how upset I was, but I never once got a return call from him. This has left a horrible taste in my mouth. There are great endodontists out there without this high maintenance and disgraceful experience. read more

Dr. B wass recc by my primary dentist who is a family friend so i trust his judgement. With a terrible toothache there was no time to waste. I knew it...a root canal was in my future. I am no novice to such events (unfortunately). Well he was really super cool about giving me the best break he could on the deal and we got to work. He was very attentive at making sure I didnt have any discomfort during the procedure. Actually the whole thing hurt my wallet more than my tooth, but i think his pricing is par for the course. They were able to break it down into payments for me and I'm happy to say that he was able to save my tooth which is always worth the $$! overall: great staff, nice, professional, and very accomodating. read more

I went to one dentist and wanted a second opinion about a root canal - so was referred to Dr. Berlin. I spoke to his wonderful asst. Margaret and she understood my plight of getting in as quickly as possible. They were able to squeeze me in that day to take a look at it and give their opinion. Dr. Berlin was so wonderful and made me relax about my crazy tooth. My friend got her tooth done by him and he did an amazing job. I would have had him do mine too, but my insurance stinks and doesn't have him in my plan. 'Looking forward' to a root-canal is hard to imagine unless you've experienced that ambiguous feeling. Since getting a root-canal is the last thing I wanted to do during Christmas and New Years, I delayed dealing with a problem tooth. The delaying continued until I had 5 calendar days before a flight to Australia. With no more delay possible, I located Dr. Berlin through YELP. Setting up the appointment over the phone went smooth and easy. Root canal was quick, painless and expertly done. I was expecting to leave town with a temporary crown. Dr. Berlin informed me that a permanent crown was not only possible, but he could recommend a dentist in the same building. He personally escorted me, introduced me and explained my situation to the staff. Long story short, I had a completely and permanently repaired tooth using state-of-the-art technology by 2:45pm that same day.
