We had a great breakfast here. Four of us came, and we each could not have been happier with what we had. Two of us had the corned beef and eggs. Delicious house made corned beef hash, house made bread and home fries. Hubby had a corn chowder and grilled cheese special, quite the deal at $9.00. Service was friendly and attentive. Great hot pastrami sandwich and curly fries. I ordered it with their homemade oat bread, which is amazingly tasty with pastrami. Just to try it out, I had the strawberry shortcake... On our way on to Montreal from the Berkshires, I was looking for an old fashioned diner for breakfast. We are so happy we stumbled onto Jean's. The food was terrific. Don't skip the oatmeal bread toast (with butter, of course). Beyond the food, the service was terrific. The servers were so friendly and sweet. They truly seemed to care about us and the other customers. We felt so welcome and comfortable. If I'm ever near Hoosick Falls, I will be going back. On my way back home, I stopped for breakfast at Jean's Place, which is located on Route 67 just east of Route 22 in North Hoosick. The atmosphere inside is that of a very cozy mom & pop diner with stool seating at the long counter and table seating along the walls and front windows. Jean's Place is serves up breakfast, lunch, and dinner (Wed-Sat). The menu offerings include the traditional breakfast dishes (served anytime-eggs, 3 egg omelets, pancakes, French toast, waffles, etc.), sandwiches, wraps, burgers, hot dogs, soups, chili, salads, comfort dinners (meatloaf, liver & onions, steak, chicken, ham steak & more), and seafood (scallops, haddock, clam strips, shrimp, fish frys). The prices are pretty reasonable (most items under $10) and coffee is 65 cents. I arrived here around 10:15AM on Monday morning and the place was really busy, parking lot almost full. All the stools at the counter were occupied by the local seniors. I sat myself at an open table nearby. Sorel's Diner up the road is closed on Mondays and that probably explains why Jean's Place was so busy on Monday. My waitress came over to my table within seconds and took my drink order. The hot coffee ($0.65) was just right. I took a few moments to decide what I wanted. I ordered the Strawberry Shortcake Pancakes (3) with Sausage ($5.95) and a side of Home Fries with Onions ($1.95). The food came out quickly. The food was very good tasting. The pancakes were soft and very moist inside, topped with sugar strawberries and lots of whipped cream. The 2 grilled sausage links were very thick and juicy. The home fries with onions were grilled golden brown, but were very greasy. The portion of food was generous and I could not finish my breakfast (I got a to go box). Overall, Jean's Place was a good stop for a hearty breakfast. The service was good and prompt, though the waitress did not speak much since the place was hopping. I was also offered more coffee during breakfast, which I definitely needed for my drive across 3 states. We had such a great time! The food was really good. I had the strawberries and creme Waffel. My husband had the chili cheese cheese burger so yummy. The staff members were so kind. They took the time to play with my son and show him around the restaurant. This is a family restaurant and the people that work there are really sweet. This is THE definition of a local greasy spoon diner. Located on Route 67 not far from the Vermont/New York border. My husband and I were with another couple on a long-distance motorcycle trip, we were about 3900 miles in after 8 days and were completely ravenous after an hour of riding from our overnight stay in Vermont. We hadn't had breakfast yet and happened to see this place. So happy we did! It was Saturday morning on 6.25. We noticed the CASH ONLY signs and I went in to ask if there was a close ATM. It was like walking into a movie set from the Chevy Chase classic Funny Farm. The place was filled with local characters who I could tell were sizing me up from the moment I walked in. I LOVED it. A man eating at the counter gave me a nod and simply said, "station down the way..." I grabbed a table while my husband got cash and our friends got their bike and gear set. The food was perfect. I had the Eggs, Bacon, Fried Potatoes with Onions. But, the highlight was their made-on-site Oat Bread. It was simply fantastic, best bread I've had in awhile. We also got a Blueberry Muffin (also made on site) to go and it was the ideal tasty snack a few hours later during a fuel break. The staff were also friendly and kind. We will stop here again during our next trek through Upstate New York!!! read more

Driving by Jean's place on the way to Haystack, I knew we needed to stop at this very legit-looking local diner, with a packed parking lot. Inside, the place was filled to the brim, mostly with older locals. They still managed to quickly find us a table in the smallish place. Breakfast was quite good, my partner's western omelette large, fluffy, and chock full of ham and onions (inexplicably absent were the standard green peppers). My breakfast sandwich and home fries hit the spot. The fare is comfort food, well made for a small diner, but nothing extraordinary. The price is right, very affordable, and if you are traveling between southern VT and upstate NY, so is the location. We were pleased with our visit and the friendly service, even though we were obviously not their typical patron. read more

I was going from bennington to Montreal and realized i forgot my passport and gave up on the whole trip. Very fortuitous for me because I stopped here and had the best reuben i've ever had in my life. back in 2009-13 it would open at 4am and I would often make the trip for the eggs benedict or the reuben after a long night. it's inexpensive, friendly, and coffee is constantly flowing! read more

Excellent service - Jean and her team are great. They must get up at two in the morning because they are on top of their game at 5:30, when I'm still groggy. Food - decent, the quality is not great (thin bacon, toast is too buttered, weak old man coffee, ect.) but man it comes out fast. When I'm on my way to school in the morning and want a bite of salty, greasy breakfast this is the place to do it. Price - about as good as it gets. Five bucks for a good breakfast with some hollandaise sauce and a bottomless cup of joe. Overall - I will become a regular here. My goal is for them to know my name and my order. Jean's is a little home cooking place that has 10 tables. I had a mushroom and cheese omelet with a side of sweet potato fries. Yum to the omelet but the fries were totally amazing.
