I got the portobello and roasted eggplant sandwich and it was delicious. The focaccia bread was divine. So soft and satisfying. The subtle pesto spread was just enough to add good flavor without making the sandwich soggy or drippy. The sandwich came with a side of carrot salad and a shredded potato salad. Everything tasted really fresh and nutritious and really hit the spot. The staff were all very nice and attentive. Overall a great spot for a more casual quick meal!

As we headed toward the back of the shop to see if they were selling creemees, we saw they had samples of apple donuts out. They were tasty, but definitely could tell they were made earlier in the day as they were not too fresh. We assumed they were probably trying to clear out their inventory for the day. We eventually found the soft serve machine and ordered a maple creemee. I should start by saying that I'm not a big fan of maple, but if I'm going to try a Vermont creemee, I had to order a maple one. It was perfect, great texture and just a hint of maple taste. My husband asked to try it and he ultimately claimed it as his own, so we ended up buying a second one. So good! Service was okay. We got a weird vibe from the lady who was helping us. She seemed annoyed and very short while we were checking out the food and trying to order our creemee. Maybe because they were going to close soon? Not sure. But that was the only negative about our experience. The Apple Barn is definitely a cool spot to visit if you find yourself in Bennington.
